This place somehow has a pull over me when I want Chinese food and I'm too lazy to cook it myself. My friends and I went here one time after trying both King Wok and Red Pepper. So from that you should have figured our expectations were quite low. But this place definitely is better than both of them combined. I like the fact they have a Chinese menu in Chinese. I'd say the kicker for me is that the food actually smells like normal Chinese food and not the bland Americanized version. I was there when Kathryn C called in and demanded a refund. She was so angry and yelling so loud that I could hear her through the manager's phone from across the desk as I waited to pick up my food. As far as I can tell, she was angry because her food was not delivered. The problem is, the phone she gave was turned off (apparently dead?) so she didn't receive the 20+ calls the delivery man and manager made trying to reach her. She called an hour later demanding a refund. The manager offered to have the food sent out again but that wasn't good enough for her. He refused to refund her as it wasn't his fault. She was extremely rude and he was very patient. He definitely did not call her a bitch. She did call him a "terrible manager," and he did tell her he had other customers waiting (me!) and he needed to go do his job. I came here looking for her review as I was guessing she would leave one and wanted to set the record straight. 4/5 stars is because my vegetable lo mein was a bit dry. My boyfriend discovered China Foods and got me to order several meals from there before I asked him to try a new Chinese food restaurant that delivers. This place does the same friend rice, starchy, gloopy sauce covered meats you can get on every corner. And by the time the food gets to my apartment (in a timely manner, no complaints there) I'd forget what I ordered and could never tell by taste which number on the dinner menu I ordered. China Food was described to me as having the best Chinese food in the area when I moved here. Coming from the East Coast to Cincinnati, there is a stark contrast in terms of "best" when it comes to Chinese food. Their menu is large. Between appetizers, chicken, pork, seafood, and vegetarian options, there are plenty of choices. The food is good, but certainly not great or worthy of such a high distinction of "best." I had mixed reactions with several specific food choices. The sweet and sour shrimp was leaking out of the container it came in when I got it delivered. The taste was ok, but nothing fantastic. They lack a pu-pu platter, which is frustrating when you want a little bit of everything. Their appetizer menu does offer good choices to make your own though. The crab ragoons are recommended as well as the beef teriyaki. And I personally liked their pot stickers (my date did not care for them.) Their pork fried rice is very very good though. For one person ordering, this food is really expensive, especially if you get it delivered. There are coupons in the Bearcat Coupon Book - but usually you need to order at least 15 dollars to get free delivery. The delivery charge is around the $3.50 range. However, if you are ordering with more than one person - it's a pretty good deal. I suggest just driving to the restaurant (there is plenty of parking) and going the take-out route. Their drivers aren't the best and like I said, the delivery charge is somewhat outrageous. China Food is good. And the food is as close to authentic as you're going to get here in the midwest. But your wallet may be quite a bit lighter if you're alone and just wanting a quick Chinese fix. read more

The food is oily, greasy and lunch options have tons of rice but very less chicken/ veggies anything else. The egg drop soup has so much oil in it which is so not what you expect from a clear soup. The sweet and sour chicken looked congealed and was just dry chicken and a pile of mush. The general tso chicken i got was a weird brown color and tasted like soy sauce mixed with red hot. The can of soda I ordered probably would've been ok, except it never came. After I called they refused to give me a refund and there was no apology or an offer to remake this "food". To get authentic dishes, like the ones we ordered, you need to request the "chinese menu" which has more authentic chinese cuisine. Fortunately this menu has pictures and descriptions in English. While there was nothing too spectacular about the food, the interaction I had with the delivery driver was awful! After delivering my order, the delivery driver called claiming I set him up to get something stolen from his car! Living in an apartment building, I met him at the main front door. He had left a part of the order in the car and said he had to run back to get it. I did not see where he parked his car as we only have street parking. It was over an hour later when he called asking why he had to walk to the apartment door from the street and that I made him lose something from his car. I told him I was unsure what he was talking about and that I had nothing to do with the fact that he didn't lock his car if something was taken from it. He continued to ask if I was "sure" I had nothing to do with him losing his "something". He wouldn't even say what was missing, ( I think I hopes that I would say whatever it could have been and continue his blame). I'd been meaning to come here for years and finally had the chance to do so. It's an unassuming place with such a goofy name that I wasn't expecting much, but was pleasantly surprised to discover that they have a two-menu offering. One menu features typical Chinese-American fare, while the "red" menu contains the more adventurous stuff, with lots of appetizing photos. Dine-in service friendly and prompt. My son and I ordered the Sichuan BBQ beef and shredded pork with sweet bean sauce. Both were simple, delicious and beautifully presented. I ordered the egg drop soup as an appetizer and it was basically just eggs mixed with corn syrup. It was sooo thick and goopy that I asked to have the hot and sour soup instead, but it was equally starchy and I could not eat it. I ordered a seafood/vegetable entree with rice and I got the same reaction.. the sauce was salty and very starchy like the other food and I could tell that the food was not fresh at all.. It is your typical greasy and flavorless Chinese food. It has large portions of food for the price but the food is tasteless. I bought from them at work a couple of times in the summer of '13 and then when I tried to order the summer of '14 they claimed it was too far. I wasn't mad and understood even though I explained to her that wasn't the case the year before. I understand things changed so I wasn't mad about that just a little disappointed. As for the customer service every time I called for delivery she would yell everything and was always in a rush. I understand they were probably busy but this happened every time I called! She would also put me on hold before or while I was ordering (which is actually her only putting the phone facing down on the counter and not actually pressing the hold button) and she would then blatantly answer other phone calls and take other people's orders, while I WAIT!! They always seemed mad and when the delivery man would come by to give the food he looked really annoyed and would put my bag of food on the floor of the porch. Service is extremely poor and not accommodating at all!! THE BIGGEST REASON I AM LEAVING THIS REVIEW IS BECAUSE I FOUND A dead BUG IN MY FOOD!?! (It was probably a mosquito or fly but it was at the bottom of my lunch special, honey chicken, and I only saw it after eating almost my entire meal!!) I love China Food!! My boyfriend and I are regulars here. I'm not sure what the mixed reviews are about... I will say I've only ordered delivery from here once and wasn't too impressed. The dinner combos come with soup, an egg roll, and your choice of rice. It is A LOT of food and somehow it's only $6.45?? Seriously? I feel like I'm stealing from them. Ah-maze-zing. Also, you know this place is a hidden gem when it has two menus - the "American" Chinese menu and the "authentic" Chinese menu. I haven't been adventurous enough to try something from the authentic menu, but I really want to.
