Well, this USED TO be a favorite place for us. Recently, we went for dinner and we were met by a young woman who was our "greeter/seater". Due to the way we were treated, we almost left immediately. This woman was downright RUDE. She didn't ask us where we'd like to sit, she walked us to a table and put down some white paper and menus. The table wasn't to our liking. When I asked her if we could sit elsewhere, she was "huffy" and had a bit of a meltdown and began talking in Chinese in a heated tone.That was insulting! BTW, the restaurant was half-full!!! She said she was holding tables in case other larger parties came in. That's when I had to assert myself. I let her know we did not feel welcomed by her and that we were here NOW and should be treated better than guests who aren't here now and that we didn't appreciate her sarcasm! I will say she responded to the fact that we were very unhappy. We got the table we wanted and thankfully we didn't see her again! But we don't expect to get stressed by the establishment we are dining in. The restaurant needs to know about this and do something about it. We've been going to this place for many years and may not go back! All of this aside, the food is still good and we got a young, male waiter who was very good. So, decide whether you want to take a chance. Just watch out for this woman. read more

This place is just horrible! The service is whoever is around might bring you something, when they have time. My deluxe pan fried noodles were actually served to me in a pyrex pie plate and was lukewarm and had no flavor at all. And the sesame chicken my husband ordered was a fried chicken breast with some brown sauce on top - it didn't look like any sesame chicken I've ever seen before. My water glass was broken and when I asked for a new glass I got a bath when the waitress actually dumped the water from the broken glass into another glass. There were 7 of us at dinner and our food came out about 5 minutes apart - real nice. Please, think before you ever consider going to this very mediocre excuse for a Chinese retaurant. read more

SERVICE, SERVICE, SERVICE - BAD, HORRIBLE, NEVER AGAIN! I have been here twice in 2 weeks, once to pick up food for my Mom as she was ill and once last night as it was my sister's choice for her birthday. The owner I believe, an older woman, helped (not) me both times. Not sure if she is arrogant or just ignorant. Totally ignores you when you walk in, doesn't acknowledge your existence until she is ready, maybe 5-10 minutes if no one is there and you are lucky. Even a nice smile does not melt her cold demeanor. It really makes you wonder if she despises her customers that much, as the service continues in that vein once you get to your table, even after placing your order. There was one other young waitress who was sweet, but hardly seen. There were two of them to wait on 4 tables of customers, didn't seem like that stressful of a situation, maybe one order to go was picked up while we were seated. We had to wait quite a while for them to bring a check and then to pick it up. My sister finally tried the old trick of jumping up and putting on her coat, that brought them over quickly to pick up the bill. The food was good, I would probably rate that a '3', but the service so poor we will not be coming back to this restaurant. Save your fortune cookies China Palace, you are going to need them if you continue with this type of service. read more

Don't do it. +1,000 on the horrible service. Made the mistake of going before checking Yelp. Lady who brought us water spilled it everywhere on the table and did t even wipe it up. I asked for straws and got a look of death. There was one young man working so hard as a server and getting yelled at by the ladies. His job sucks. Almost 2hrs for 6 dishes and they all came one by one with what seemed like 20min apart. Gotta admit the wor wonton, walnut shrimp and fried rice was good. Mongolian beef, chow fun and orange chicken less than average. But the service, OMG. Drive to San Jose and you'll still get your food and be back home in Morgan Hill in Some folks ordering take out were standing by the door waiting for 30+min No server deserves to be treated by co-workers like the young man was. OK...... this is hard, so I will just go straight to the point. I love the food, and I hate the service. If the service were better I would of gave it 5 stars. They have the same 2 female servers there every night no matter how busy they are, I have waited for up to an hour and fifteen minutes to get my appetizers. When I complained they told me " real busy sir, not my fault, gotta wait you", and when she walked away she was speaking her native language to the other server and it didn't sound to nice, I was upset but when I bit into my walnut prawn.........all was forgiven. The food is that great, now when I decide to go there, I make sure we go when we are not hungry yet, I am not exaggerating at all, I also call and tell them I will be picking up an order for 4, they tell me 30 mins. to pick it up, i show up 25 mins to pick it up and tell them I changed my mind and I will eat it there and everything is smooth. My friend and I came in for a late lunch. We ordered the Dinner plates. Her entrees were hot but the chow mein was cold, fridge cold. I had ordered Beef Broccoli and extra spicy Kung Pao Chicken. I received Beef Broccoli and Kung Pao Beef (I've never had Kung Pao Beef). The server politely took both plates back as she confirmed the chow mean was cold but argued with waiter who had taken our order. The waiter then came and repeatedly kept arguing that I had ordered Beef and not Chicken. After a few words, he continued to emphasized in a higher tone that he never takes wrong orders. I then apologized and stated that if it was too much of a hassle to cancel my plate. He raised his voice again and repeated "You never ordered chicken". He then argued for another 5mins with the server... Definitely not coming back. read more

Food is good and average. Not very many options in town. I would not recommend it unless you have a few hours to waste. As the other previews state it takes 2-3 hours to get your food! I really can't tell if it is a cultural thing or the lady who works the front of house just hates everyone. I heard her on the phone, so rude to, what I assume is, a customer placing an order. Doesn't say hello, acknowledge me, or greet me in anyway except to say "phone number?" I think I'll find a new Chinese Restaurant in town. It's hardly worth the effort to be polite here anymore. Very disappointing but not really surprising. Just got home. Food was awful. We are done with this place. Ordered Mongolian Beef and Chicken Fried Rice. Huge disappointment! Every time we come here it seems to just get worse and worse. We say we're not coming back and after several months we some how find our way back but soon after arriving we're quickly reminded why we had stopped coming here before. First I had started to notice that although the restaurant is beautifully designed but there are corners of the restaurant cluttered with junk or areas that look like they haven't been cleaned for some time. Glasses and silverware will arrive to your table dirty. Makes me question the kitchen conditions??For some odd reason it's always seem to be understaff even when it's slow. Employees almost always seem to be upset or in a really bad mood even right up to the manager/ owner. You can't ignore the fact that they constantly argue back in forth at each-other. Even if we don't understand the language you can feel the tensions rising. Many times we've waited up to 20 to 25 minutes just to be greeted after being seated. Many times our food has been slammed or tossed on our table while quickly trying to attend another table. One waitress I have to say was extremely rude while taking our order because she and the owner just had it out. Many other folks notice the same all around. If you're really itching for their food which is pretty decent overall I'd recommend take out. If you do decide to eat in watch out for the tip they automatically charge no matter if its a party of two. They must already come to know that no one tips due to poor service but still make you pay a tip for their bad service anyways. Just a word of the wise if you don't want to fall victim to their mandatory tip system.Tell them at the register that you'll leave the tip at the table and you can leave what you feel you should pay and not what they want you to pay. If you really want good Chinese food with decent service try Mandarin Gourmet south San Jose or Taiwan in the Willow Glen. read more

I ordered a take-out over the phone and went there to pick up at the promised time. There was a small line and eventually waited for another 25 min to get my order! A customer who was also waiting told another that her order was given wrongly so she had to come back! When I got home and found out they too have given me the wrong item, I was very upset and called them immediately. The lady on the phone claimed she didn't take my order so it was not her mistake. She immediately put me on hold for about 3-4 min and let another lady take over the phone. This lady said she heard me wrongly and asked what I would like to do. Before I could reply, she quickly "advised" me that the weather is hot, no point for me to drive back to the restaurant. She even said that my original ordered item cost more and I should just "stick with" what I received!! Wow, I was speechless. Now I know why this restaurant is getting such low rating and bad reviews on Yelp. The food didn't taste that great either. Poor service in and out, and mediocre food. What is left in this place? Stopped by yesterday to give the restaurant a try, since we are new to the area. Read mixed reviews prior to our visit. The restaurant wasn't crowded. We were seated immediately, which was the only plus. After that we were ignored for five minutes. Then the waitress finally brought us a glass of water and left again. My wife's water glass had a big lipstick smear on the rim. Still no one came to ask what we wanted to order for another ten minutes. I've tried this place three times since the unfortunate demise of the excellent China Orchid. Their food is generally good (on the first two visits anyway) but they have some problems. Service is confused at best and financially unfair at worst. We placed a phone order for delivery and the whole thing was a debacle. Despite the fact that they charge $5 for delivery, they have a $35 order minimum for delivery, which we only learned after our order came to about $32. Fair enough, we asked if Hot & Sour Soup would push it over. They said yes and hung up the phone. They didn't ask what size, and didn't tell us our total. Upon delivery, they delivered the wrong soup (a large order of some sort of Shrimp Noodle Soup), the chicken in the chicken salad was inedible with the inexplicable chewing consistency of an apple, and the "Vegetable" chow mein had hunks of chicken in it. Almost $50 for steamed rice, incorrect chow mein, and sweet and sour chicken. The soup and salad were inedible. We're now wondering if we should even try again with this place or just settle for Panda Express. read more

I don't know why this place has bad reviews! The food is amazing! I recommend the honey walnut shrimp. My family comes here a lot and the food is always consistently good. I saw reviews that complain about the service; I feel like this is just a cultural difference! They work hard and know what you need, it just might take a moment longer than you're used to. But that gives you more time to have a nice conversation with your family or friends! Anyways, give this place a try, you'll be glad you did! read more

We went Saturday evening for dinner after they had just reopened from being renovated and it was very busy. Upon walking in we noticed that two different parties were not happy and making comments about the service. We did not think anything of it as we know their service is always on the slower side. This time it was extremely slow. Not to mention the fried rice arrived last after all our other food was finished. Onions and peppers in the dishes were raw and the mango chicken was cold ... otherwise food was tastey. The employees acted as if they were annoyed that they were busy... menus where being thrown down onto tables and we felt like we were annoying them just asking for napkins. We were very much looking forward to going see the new renovations but could not even tell if anything had actually in fact been renovated [the bathrooms are still disgusting]. We will probably give it another chance but only because they are one of the few okay Chinese food resturants in the area. read more

I love the food at this place! Best Chinese in MH, hands down. But the service is terrible. I've completely disregarded ordering takeout from here a couple times for the specific fact that I would have to wait too long for food. I found out the best way to get food quickly, is to go in, sit at the bar and order something... so at least you can get lit up while waiting for food. The food was good BUT we were there for over 2 hrs getting it! All he tables were full of dirty dishes. We had 4 adults a toddler and a newborn and they counted it as a party of 6 and added 20% gratuity! For the horrible arrive we got (we had to get our own to go boxes and go up to get refills of water) they weren't even going to get a tip. We've been going to China Palace for over 10 years. We agree that the food is worth the poor service as other's have posted. Give yourself at least 2 hrs for dinner. (2 people) AS of today, we've decided to never go there again when we heard that the owner dismissed two of her best "server's" for accepting a personal tip. The house bill was paid with a 25% tip, but when she found out the server got a little extra, she took it and said that wasn't allowed. I went to this place today for lunch. It's my first time here & I had a very bad experience. I walked in & the people asked me, how many people? I told them, just one. They asked me to wait, so I did. After 15 minutes of waiting, a couple of other people walked in & they were seated. So I asked them when they were going to seat me at a table, they were like, "oh yeah, yeah." They sat me down, not giving me a menu! I had to ask them for it. Then I asked the lady to take my order, she totally ignored & walked away. I then again, asked her to take my order & she walked away AGAIN & IGNORED ME! Came here with a group of 5 people and the service was TERRIBLE!!!! We gave ourselves plenty of time to make a movie after dinner and believe it or not we ended up getting our food to go and eating it in the movie theater!! We were seated and it took them 30 mins to even come to our table, then from there on it was all downhill. We basically waited for over an hour and asked for the food to go. When we asked why it was taking so long they said they were understaffed and only had 3 people working that day. Yikes. And the food was just O.K. So not happy one bit with this place. read more

I agree with most of the negative reviews. Placed a phone order to go at 11:30, was told 25 minutes. Waited in line with two ladies who ordered at the same time. It was 12:30 when we finally got our orders. There should be a law when places deceive you like this. Was in some hot water with my boss as I only have a 30 minute lunch. Also, one of the dishes I got for a coworker was the wrong order. She said the food was okay, myself I was so frustrated I was not hungry and only ate the egg roll. Since the B/F lives in Morgan Hill, we go to this place often. This is one of the best Chinese food places south of SJ. Granted, the service can be slow sometimes when crowded...but the food and drinks more than make up for it! We go every Sunday night. Not being big fans of noisy children, we always sit in the bar section for dinner. It's quieter. The bartender knows us and knows just how to fix our drinks. And they always make our food to order...you can always make substitutions there (try doing that at Ginger Cafe - ha!) And someone here complained about the oysters....I don't get that. I normally don't like oysters but they have always been good here. Try the sweet and sour fish fillet or the vegetable pot stickers - yum! For us, trying to find the combo of great bar drinks AND good food is challenging, but they have both here. read more

My sister and best friend come here all the time for our lunch break and have never been disappointed. We make substitutions and our server is always very fast - we are in and out in 45 minutes max to get back to work on time. Obviously it is generalized Chinese food and although the interior decor is very upgraded and extremely clean - you can tell from the exterior that the prices will be very moderate. For the 3 of us we usually come out of there just under $30 - very inexpensive and the food is always just what we wanted. We have no complaints and are eating here today in fact! This place is not really the best Chinese restaurant in town. I would rather go to Panda Express to get better food and service. First off, the service sucks and the owner is not friendly. Update! I've gone back to this place a handful of times since my previous update, and things have returned to not so great. The service seems to be something that is complained about across the board, so it seems like they should do something about it. They also insist they don't use MSG but I'm almost positive they do because everytime I have eaten here and they've told me that I feel like I have eaten MSG (i.e. upset stomach, headache, generally gross.) The last few times I tried to give this place another chance I've felt sick. Sorry, China Palace! I'm sticking with China Orchid from now on. read more
