This is some of the worst, lowest quality Chinese food I've ever had! I'm just laughing over some of the good reviews they have... some people obviously don't know good food! The meat is of low quality & I wouldn't want to feed their food to my worst enemy's dog. A few people have bragged about their low prices, but when you serve absolute garbage, then you can charge cheaper prices. They do give you pretty big portions with the fried rice(not bad) & the soup is actually pretty good, but as far as their meat... stay clear. I ordered General Tso's chicken, once, & it was the worst combination of low-quality overcooked meat that I've ever had. The sauce was also really awful. I also gave the orange chicken a try, & that was also awful. I will give them one plus, in that the owners are very nice people. Way too many better options in the Wheaton/Glen ellyn area. read more

I'm absolutely amazed. For the 60 seconds I was in for a pickup order I can't recall having a better experience or impression in a while. This is a family owned business, VERY friendly and welcoming as you walk in and you're left feeling appreciated. I'll be honest that the crab rangoon wasn't my favorite, but it's definitely worth the $4 and I'd order it again. Been back here a few times since my first review, and I'd like to add that actually, they claim they don't use any MSG in their cooking, so my last review was somewhat inaccurate. I had a great experience with the China star in Wheaton illinois. My only problem is that they were not clear about the amount of food. There was way too much. Also I was not able to substitute dumplings for crab rangoons which made me sad. Otherwise delicious and nice people. read more

We recently moved to the area. Being a huge fan of Chinese takeout we were sad when we got the craving and didn't know where to turn. We rolled the dice and chose China Star. GREAT CHOICE! Craving cured and bellies were full. We just ordered our second round tonight and we are just as pleased the second time around. I must add that the owner, Alice, is the nicest person that I have interacted with since we moved here. Her overwhelming friendliness makes the experience that much better. My husband and I have eaten here a couple times. The first time was OK-enough to satisfy our Chinese food craving. But the second time was just bad. We ordered a couple of appetizers and a couple of main dishes and reheat the leftovers for lunch the next day. Everything we had tasted like it was cooked in stale grease. One of the main dishes, Mongolian Beef, has tons of onions but very little meat. We ate what we could and threw the rest away. I would not recommend it to anyone. read more

China Star is in an unassuming strip mall. It has a couple of tables inside but it seems like nobody eats there. They typically order out. They are your typical grungy cheap Chinese food restaurant. I have had orders of beef with various types of vegetable. The beef came out very tender and the vegetables were decent. You'll pay somewhere between $5-10 per dish depending on the size you order. As long as you keep your expectations low to medium, the food is decent. They do give you a lot of food for the amount you pay for. The shrimp fried rice is so-so. The shrimp they serve is good but it doesn't come seasoned and the rice is kind of bland. read more

In all fairness I previously went to a particular Chinese restaurant for 14 years before I moved, so I'm a little biased. Prices are good though. I have been coming here since 2009. While this little gem looks like it may be sub-par the food is always tasty, plentiful, and made fresh. The family who owns and operates it is great and happy to call you "my friend." Most orders they throw in a free drink or side item for us. My only complaint is that of all the times I thought their hot & sour soup was made in house... the son opened a giant can of pre-made soup and put it in a bowl and heated it up for me. It is still good I just thought it was a family recipe. read more

I've eaten a lot of Chinese take out in my lifetime and have seen it all. Some places are terrible, some are OK, and some are really good. China Star is awesome. Friendly people, great food, and it's always hot and fresh. They have nice little "coupon" deals too, depending on the size of your order. You can get free soda, egg rolls, soup, etc. It's the only Chinese place we order from, now. You should check it out. I recommend egg rolls, won ton soup, general tsao's chicken, mongolian beef, house special noodle (mei fun), and BBQ pork. read more

This place is right down the street from where I work an live. I get it probably once a week, just for some good ol' Chinese food. It's made quickly, it's inexpensive, and the proportions are huge. You can easily make two meals out of their 7$ lunch platters. There are definitely some better Asian restaurants in Wheaton, but none of them combine the price and serving proportions like China Star. read more

Tried this place last night. I called right before they closed and the lady told me that I would be able to place my order if I got there before 10. I really liked that because everywhere else that I called they had already stopped cooking before they even closed. Egg rolls were really good. All the food that we bought was really good. What else I really like about it is that it's all family run. Even the kids help their parents out. It's really nice to see a family working together.
