As someone who loves authentic Chinese cuisine, I am so glad I found this place! We were touring Anchorage and were disappointed at the selection. A lot of Panda Expresses and similar American style Chinese food but none of the good stuff we're used to in Los Angeles and San Fran. This place gave us a good selection of authentic Chinese dishes to choose from and we enjoyed the library like atmosphere. If I could give a zero I would. Horrible, was told by a food critic (former ADN) that this place was great, order off the Chinese Menu she said. So we went. Appetizer of pork, $11.00 12 pieces, I can get from Costco the same over a pound for $5.99 dried out junk. Having lived with a Chinese family for months and them being our family friends this place is a dive I wouldn't throw them a nickel their way ever again! Moo Shu Pork like eating sugar. They served it with some brown sauce that was nothing like Hoisin. I see reviews here that their Peking Duck is great, I wonder if they get their duck from the same place Larry's Cocoon does? Outsourced food? Can't be made in house. Just can't be! Oh the Lazi Chicken - don't even consider it. I wouldn't feed the leftovers to my dogs! I'm typically a fan of hole-in-the-wall places, but China Town was just down right scary. First, walking in is basically like walking through a closet like you're on a jounrey to Narnia, but when you get there you find a primarily windowless room with dirty floors, and odd assortment of tables, chairs, and booths, and an old buffet (currently not in use) in a tucked away nook. The menu was pretty lack luster, especially for a vegetarian. Nothing seemed appetizing on the menu, and looked even less so after the order arrived. This place was sketch-town. read more

Had lunch at this restaurant and it was a total disappointment. Did not have king crab or crab, ordered shrimp chow mein and won ton soup. Very little cabbage and shrimp in the chow mein and there are no visible won tons in the soup; there were pieces of broken won ton skin and a few won ton fillings that tasted like rubber. For dine-in, the food was served in take-out containers. We are visitors from Los Angeles, found this restaurant on Yelp with good rating so we took a Uber from our hotel to give it a try. I hate to say it, but a restaurant like this would not survive one day in LA. read more

I ordered in using the Yelp app. Ordering was easy. The food was pretty decent and the amount was plentiful.

I don't review food as much as I should but this was so horrible it warranted a review. The Hot & Sour soup is flavorless broth with some floating egg. The Crispy Duck & Sweet And Sour Pork Combination was also bland, even covering it with soy sauce didn't help. Lastly our Crab Cheese Wontons were literally the worst I've ever had. They were fried shells of wonton with residue of what appears to be filling of cream cheese. Save your money, go somewhere else else, or just don't eat anything because even that would be better than trying to eat this. read more

I'm lucky this restaurant is walking distance from my house, but not so lucky that they seem plagued by health code violations. Is there something synonymous with yummy chinese food and undesirable working conditions & food prep?? UGH. I was forced to order from Panda the other evening and found the food to be satisfactory, but just not as good as china town - and the portions were surprisingly on the smaller side. I hope China town gets their act together and re-opens in good time. They offer more specialty items like Lazi chicken, spicy eggplant and roasted duck. Their portions are large and the fried food, i.e., sesame chicken and sweet & sour pork is always crispy which tells me they make it fresh and it's not pre-made in masses and sitting under a heat lamp. The chef dinner for 1 could last you 3 days. The mongolian beef is tender and not swimming in too sticky of a sweet sauce. Here is a secret from your Asian bruddha -- when you visit China Town, ask the waitress for the CHINESE menu. Yes, you heard it first, there are TWO menus. The default menu, along with their lunch buffet, is catered towards the American consumer. The Chinese menu, on the other hand, is for red-blooded, authentic Chinese. William's favorites include -- steamed black cod, spicy eggplant, halibut head dofu soup. And they also have the Peking duck -- as flava flav would say, Yeah Boyeee! This fine establishment didn't get the 5 stars due to its pricey items on the Chinese menu. The aforementioned black cod is ~$30 for half a fish. something in the neighborhood of $50 for the whole fish. But this would be a typical price for food of this caliber in large cities such as San Francisco. So, man up, cowboy -- before you badmouth our lovely city lacking good Chinese food, give China Town a try. read more

So I tried calling to place an order for delivery and no answer but my husband really wanted Chinese so he offered to just drive up there (since it does say they are open 7 days a week) so he gets there and said the sign "Open" was turned on and the door was unlocked so he went in and asked if they were open and they respond "Uhh not really?, we just did a catering order today and honestly Sunday just depends on how or business is doing if we are open or not." So my husband asked "Umm okay so can I order food or not?" And they said no that our best bet would be to order Monday-Saturday. First let me say that I was vacationing in Anchorage for a week with my husband. We live in North Carolina and frequently eat traditional Chinese food. This place had a good rating and the food was excellent (we ordered off the Chinese Menu). Since we aren't asian, we are usually asked repeatedly if we like spicy food and pork belly before the waitstaff will submit our order. However, I'm removing a star because when we received our bill at the end of the meal, the prices for each of our dishes were higher than stated on the menu ($6 higher). The waitress did not inform us of the price increase, and the owner/manager wouldn't honor the menu price. The cost of food in Anchorage is already higher than we're accustomed, so this unexpected price increase really stung, and left a bad taste. read more

Save your self the money and time Do not go to this restaurant bad bad service not good food. the owners was yelling and screaming at each other and their staff pretty much all the time we where their. the food was not good. sweat and sour oork was dry with mo vegetables the magolian beef had small chuncks of brown sugar that was not desovled in the food you can taste the small chuncks of brown sugar which you shouldn't have to eat the cunckes of brown sugar. service sucked big time no drinks before the meal. one meal came no silver wear. the other 2 meals came a few minutes after and no drinks for the 3rd time i asked for drinks and silver wear. so we sat with our food in-front of us with no drinks and no silverware for a few minutes. then the drinks snd silver wear came. owners yelling at the staff some of the staff is yelling back at the owner. this made a hostile environment to listen to while waiting gor our food and drinks. was their way to long. the foid was dry. hardly any sauce on the sweat and sour pork. with the yelling snd screaming in the kitchen git my PTSD inside of me going. walked out after eating and paying made for a very very unhappy dinner. One of my go-to spots for authentic Chinese fare. The other being Charlie's Bakery. Craving something not drenched in sugar laden sauce, or swimming in cooking oil? This is the place for you! I used to work near here, and would order take out/delivery frequently. Walnut shrimp - deep fried sea nuggets topped with a creamy mayo based sauce and walnuts for an added crunch of texture, and pineapple fried rice - sweet and savory fried rice goodness, are two of the best dishes I've tried so far. Okay I have been ripped off for years ordering delivery food in Anchorage. About 4 years ago I tried these guys. Oh man is it good. I recommend the twice cooked pork. The broccoli with oyster sauce go light with the sauce. Ask for extra carrots on the pork Pork fried rice extra spicy asper the other2 also Appetizers. Get the fried dumplings. They are pot stickers. It will come with cream cheese wontons for free. I always get 4 egg rolls at 1.50 each. I know pricey however they are light crunchy and super fresh. My total bill was 58 dollars The egg rolls were 6 bucks. Note anything just over 40 gives the free cream cheese wontons. I don't know who these guys pissed off. I just saw the prior reviews. I no longer live in Anchorage, but I have to put in my 2 cents worth about this place. I was brought to this restaurant the last time I visited during fall of '07. I was a bit skeptical because, well--come on, it's located in Government Hill. Actually, the location is quite fitting. It's difficult to imagine this restaurant somewhere else. It's kind of hard to explain, but whenever I go into that area of Anchorage, it's as if I'm crossing over to uncharted territory, so to find a good ethnic restaurant in a place that feels unfamiliar to me--well, it works. The food really is as amazing as R L describes it, although, as he mentioned, I don't know how the food off the English menu would compare. Neither my companion nor I read Chinese--we both speak some--so our server brought out pictures of Chinese dishes. I'm not going to go into detail about what we ate, as it was a bit ago, but it was super delicious. I went home and told my ma and sister about it, and we all made the trip back a week later, as one of my final meals in AK. So good! A fairly decent buffet at a great price. The food is fresh and tasty, and there is hot pepper paste(I think the Thai kind) available to add to your dish if you need spiciness. The hot and sour soup is spectacular, but the lo mein is underwhelming, while everything else is kind of average. Kind of average is actually above average for Chinese food in Anchorage however, hence the 4-star review. Parking is a bit of an issue, but not cripplingly so. Just ordered through door dash. My daughter ordered an egg roll and it came marked with a Sharpie. When I tried to call and talk with a manager, He yelled That any problems were Doordash's fault. I said no, you made the food and he began yelling at me in Chinese. He then hung up on me and refuses to talk with me when I call back. What a fucking Asswipe. Do yourself a favor and avoid this place. Can't post the photo as yelp says the file is too large. I forgot to add, they answered the phone again and pretended not to understand English. I said you yelled at me in English and the woman talking in the background understands English.. After 4-5 minutes, she finally says if I want a refund I need to talk to DoorDash. The food here is excellent! Ask for the Chinese menu if you want authentic Chinese food. We have been pleased with every dish we've ordered. We saw the roast duck on the menu, that you have to order two or three days in advance, and decided to go for it. When we arrived, our table was set, they were ready for us. A splended roast duck was brought out sliced and beautifully laid out on a bed of cilantro. It had been marinated with seasonings, probably including star anise. It was wonderful! The baby bok choi with Chinese mushrooms we ordered as a side was also beautiful and delicious. China Town restaurant makes really good food! The woman who owns the restaurant is friendly and interested in her customers, and is quite fun to talk to. In spite of being in Government Hill, it's quick and easy to get there. This is the best Chinese food in Anchorage, and some of the best I've had outside Taiwan. The restaurant is not fancy but the food is delicious. Ask for the Chinese menu (it's in English) - that's where the good stuff is. They really should get rid of the regular menu or combine it with the Chinese one since people who don't know about the two menus won't taste the best dishes. Highly recommended! We ordered successfully once from China Town. Food was great, but we were told we lived too far away (we are on the East side of Anchorage, about 20 minutes away from the restaurant). It was made clear by the woman on the phone that our order was an inconvenience (she said it would be two hours for our order to arrive because we live so far), but they did it anyway. Our food arrived hot and was tasty. Good sized portions, and fed three of us for 2 1/2 meals. On our second attempt we were told they did not have the time to take our order. Disappointing, but since I'm not really willing to drive out to get it, perhaps we have something in common. I guess I'm just not used to a restaurant turning down orders, especially if they advertise free delivery in the Anchorage area. We went with a closer restaurant in the area tonight who did have time to deliver. Pleasant surprise! Craving some homey fulfilling Chinese food. Well flavored and not sopping with grease or sodium. Menu was extensive as most Chinese restaurants are. Service was attentive and informative. Very relaxing atmosphere. Ordered the egg flower soup and crab Rangoon. Wasn't a lot of crab but the cream cheese was smooth and steamy. Egg flower was clear and peppery, perfect to combat this nasty cold I've been fighting. Huge bowl for us to split and plenty to take home! I ordered the combination dinner of Mongolian beef and subbed my second protein for chicken lo mein. Noodles were lightly sauces and breaded chicken was still crispy. Mongolian beef had a full body flavor without being super salty or greasy. My husband ordered the crispy duck with sweet and sour pork combo. Duck skin was wonderfully fried and crispy and enough moisture on the inside still. Egg rolls were kinda "meh", but the fried rice side really stole the show. Spent a week in Alaska and tried two Chinese restaurants in Anchorage. Figured it was probably the best place to find decent Chinese food. Found this place on Yelp and when I first drive up I was a little weary. The location, outside appearance and the inside appearance are all a bit dingy. My expectations were not high given all that and the fact that I was in Anchorage. I was pleasantly surprised by the food. There is a Chinese menu (always a good sign) that has no English. The owners of the restaurant, I think, are from northern China and everyone that worked at the restaurant spoke Chinese. I can't speak to the food on the American menu but the stuff we ordered off of the Chinese menu was authentic, although, slightly in the salty side. The draw back I saw was the price. Everything on the Chinese menu was about 40% higher than what I'm used to. read more
