We have been going here since they opened in 1988 (young woman at the counter even argued with me about that-as IF she knows!) and we recently ordered our regular (like every week) Shrimp with Lobster sauce and Chicken Chown Mein (soft noodles). Had to take both back because the shrimp was almost raw and chicken in the noodles was horrid-signs of freezer burn and looked re-cooked as well. btw..I have 2 sons who are chefs and they confirmed. I simply took the meals back and once the young woman got real "snotty" with me....I simply requested a refund and she refused to give me the full amount back because she said two shrimp were missing (because we did try to eat our meals). I've had a few of their dishes so far including: Spicy chicken and Kung Pao Chicken. Both entrees are full of flavor and seasoned well. The portions are quite large for a reasonable price. Ting always works the window and she is always so kind and wonderful. My food is always on point and the other lady always makes me feel so welcome when I come in. I live across the street from China Way and have gone there over the years. I just got the teriyaki chicken over rise. It's not even edible. While eating I bit down on wait sounded like glass. This is a great hole in the wall Chinese restaurant that is not 'genuine' Chinese food but Americanized Chinese food done right. Your old standbys are here as are all of the old familiar items you have come to memorize on Chinese menus. Super cheap, I recommend if you like spice then tell them to make any of your dishes 'extra spicy.' Not the most amazing Chinese food but perfectly adequate and you're not going to spend an arm and a leg if you find you don't like the place. Ribs were hard and old, dishes came that we couldn't even tell what it was. A chicken dish, no idea what the goop was, was hard and dry. Not even the substitute for fried rice was correct. I spent $80. Rated it poorly with DoorDash and got a partial refund. I will say that the wonton soup was fine. Otherwise, I hate to have to leave a poor rating but it was really awful. I live in Gilbert, which isn't exactly close to this area, so I just googled a place and China Way popped up, so I decided to give it a try. I spent $20 on an order of beef fried rice and an order of shrimp fried rice. The guy working the drive-thru was very friendly, the portion sizes were pretty big, and my boyfriend and I both agreed it was delicious. Big bunches of broccoli, cabbage, squash, etc. A steady stream of people came in as I was waiting for my take out so that's a good sign. Normally I love to give great reviews but just can't do it. I've been a China Way regular customer for over 20+ years. Since they changed the menu, the people who run it etc, it's just not been the same. The last two times I tried to eat there I got bad food. It looked fresh and amazing, but when I started eating my beef and broccoli it tasted like ammonia. I've had shrimp like this last time. I wanted my money back and they didn't want to do it. Totally crazy you serve food and when someone says it's bad, they don't want to hear it. I saw the cook very visibly upset when I asked for a refund. They said it's supposed to taste that way. No way, sorry.... China Way Beef is not supposed to smell and taste like ammonia. Very disappointed that we're losing a cute little restaurant from our selection of nice places with good food, but I absolutely won't be going back. On Sunday 6/5/2022 We ordered 2 dinner entrees and both were very very oily and not very fresh. One entree was Stir Fried Chicken was overly sweet and no spice. Both my husband and I were highly disappointed in the food and service. We have been coming to your establishment since opening 30+ years and have never been disappointed!! This is by far the best Chinese restaurant that we have found in the Valley and we have tried several! The crab puffs are amazing and filled with so much filling and crispy but not too crispy. The orange chicken and honey garlic chicken combo's are always our go-to. The drive-thru is super convenient and not very common for a Chinese restaurant of this kind. We also have had very pleasant experiences with the workers. On one occurrence the nice gentlemen working gave me a sample or extra item (I can't remember what) and the overall interaction was very friendly. Definitely check this place out. read more
