I've pretty much tried every flavor but carrot cake and my favorites are: blueberry cheesecake, triple chocolate chip (white cookie), white chocolate macadamia, and Oreo. $17.50 for 6 cookies sounds expensive but they're huge and worth. I will never understand why this place attracts lines snaking down the block. I love cookies. Ma belly loves cookies (and it shows). I anxiously awaited the opening of Chip - I live nearby and would check regularly to see when they'd finally be open for business, hoping they'd be an Insomnia-type cookie coming to Queens. So when they finally opened - before the hype leading to the snaking lines - we tried them. We were disappointed. They were dense - more like slightly crunchy muffin tops than cookies. I'll pay for a good cookie. $3.50 isn't especially expensive when the product is worth it. But to me, these just aren't worth it. Buy a roll of cookie dough and chop it into thirds and bake three cookies - boom! - you have Chip's cookies. I'm sort of glad we weren't fans. Not long after we tried them, a mom on our local mom's group mentioned how their 2 year old accidentally chipped (no pun intended) a piece of a sign on the wall (the kid was in dad's arms). Accidents happen. Heck, intentional damage happens too. But they demanded $500 from this family to replace the sign, and it was only after outcry from other moms did they relent and return the money. I've had clients bring their kids to my office and they've colored on our walls, but I don't make them pay for a new paint job. That's the risk you take when you open a business. So over hyped. I think it's lame to wait in line for many things, especially a cookie. I heard such rave reviews from people and the internet regarding this place when I first moved to the neighborhood, but I am convinced most just come here for the instagram opportunity. Been here about 3-4x so far since the move. Never waited on line, was able to beat. It's a very tight spot. I remember one time I wanted it and it looked so cramped in there, even with no line I had to get out. Anyway, the chocolate chip cookie is good when it's nice and warm. This is one of those places you call a whole in the wall. Small little business, even the name on the building is small, if you walk past it you probably wouldn't think anything of it. They have a table outside with 3 seats and on the inside a table with a believe 4 seats. This place is small with no real waiting room so if its raining and there's a line you better have an umbrella! On the upside they move the line pretty quick and they definitely make up for the line with their customer service and their delicious cookies. Everyday is a different kind of cookie so you have to check them online (don't know if the have a phone number) to know the cookies of the day. So far I've had the chocolate chip, confetti, white chocolate and macadamia nut, cookies and cream and baklava. My least favorite was the chocolate chip(don't know what kind of chocolate was put in there) baklava was surprisingly good, not overly sweet (special someone who wants a little sweet but not over powering) confetti fresh out the oven and still pretty hot seemed overly sweet (but if you like that it would be perfect) for me the cookies and cream plus the white chocolate and macadamia nut is where I was perfect at not too sweet, but sweet enough and it had a bit to it. If you got your cookies fresh out the over I just letting it set before eating it cause it will fall apart All and all this place is fantastic, I will be back to try more different flavors. I don't care how long the line is, these cookies are worth it every single time. I always do the buy 5 cookies, get 1 free cause I want the cookies to last me more than 10 seconds. I've left the cookies in the box for two days and they were still soft, which is what I love about them. They are still as tasty and fresh as when I first bought them. Its a great cookie place. It is half baked and it gives it a great gooey texture. The cookies are warm when you get them and can be bought with a glass of almond milk or regular milk. I'm obsessed with Astoria & do everything in my power to promote small businesses within the area - but Chip is a major disappointment. Let's start with all the things that suck: They're never open. Never. Like literally, never. I live directory above the establishment on 30th Avenue so I would know. They're never open the hours they claim making it impossible to have a cookie date with a friend, coworker, etc. Then they closed for weeks to "revamp". And then they close early as 2pm everyday because they're "sold out". Let's be real even Levain doesn't sell out, get it together. And most importantly, the cookies are horrible and the cookies you see on IG are fake news at its finest! I waited in line last weekend for my roommate & I when I finally got the chance to do so...& 45 minutes later...got to the front..really excited for the pumpkin latte cookie because on IG it's oooooozing w caramel inside. No lie, literally on my mother, there was NO caramel inside. Like it was literally missing. The very very side of the cookie when split open had a few speckles of brown sugar chunk which might have been what they advertise as caramel? The "spookfetti" was okay but def not worth $4, as it tasted the same as the ones you make at home from the box. I've been wanting to try this place out for a while. I've seen pictures on IG and yelp and I HAD to try this place out. It was a small shop, short line. After I ordered I had to wait a while because they were baking the cookies. I had all four flavors they had that day (they have different flavors everyday) chocolate chip, rocky road, blueberry cream cheese, and white chocolate macadamia. This might spark some controversy, but I think Chip is better than Levain Bakery. For years, Levain had been touted as the best cookie bakery in all of New York City. Yeah I do like them, their cookies are pretty good. But even the first time I had Chip, I thought they deserved the title. Chip has so many unique and tasty favors, it might be a little hard to pick my favorite. You can't go wrong with either of the blueberry cheesecake or the funfetti. Other awesome flavors include cookies and cream, red velvet, and white chocolate macadamia. Two drawbacks. The first is that it's kind of a treck to get to, although I just heard that they opened a new location in Manhattan. The second drawback is that they do not always have all of their flavors every day, and even when they advertise it, they won't have it the day they are supposed to (we've come several times anticipating a certain flavor, a flavor that is advertised that day even when we called ahead, and yet we end up disappointed - it may be because they don't start making it until midday). Otherwise yes, Chip is a must try and a place that I will frequent many more times in the future. Hopefully they'll have the flavors they advertise when we do. Living in Astoria I've really wanted to like this place. However, in all honesty, I really don't see what the hype is, and they should NOT be compared to Levain in any way. Seems they tried to make a similar product but they don't come close at all. I've tried their cookies 3 times now and never again will I go back. The first time I bought the chocolate chip, choc chip walnut, and apple oatmeal. The choc chip walnut was under cooked. I get that they're going for crunchy on the outside gooey inside, but that just wasn't a good gooey, we could still taste the raw cookie dough in it. Not a pleasant taste.The apple oatmeal cookie almost seemed like a good idea, except that when I tried it all I could think of was, the flavor just doesn't belong in a cookie, it was more like an apple pie with hard chewy oats that I didn't want. The second time around I went for my son who likes anything chocolate chip. Also got a s'mores cookie to try and again I was disappointed. I was actually hoping for the best since I was expecting that nice chocolatey cinnamon graham crackers marshmallow taste, as you would have in a s'more. Chip didn't deliver that nice flavor profile, all I got was a regular choc chip cookie with 4 tiny dry marshmallows on top, and a dark crispy bottom, very uninteresting, no taste similar to s'mores at all. And I Love s'mores! Huge disappointment. This third time we went back just last week after the reopening. Seems like nothing has changed. Don't know what the whole "brand expansion" was all about. We tried the Blueberry cheesecake cookie this time around and got two choc chip, one for my kiddo and one to share with my husband. My husband ended up eating both. First thought about the BB cookie was that it tastes more like a blueberry scone with a squishy sweet cheese filling, not reminiscent of a BB cheesecake. Nothing to be impressed about. The choc chip cookie this time was all spongy inside not even a nice gooey bit at all. It tasted more like a Chewy Chip Ahoy store bought cookie, not something to rave about or something to wait in line for or pay 3.50 a piece for. On that note, the thing about Levain's cookies is that even after hours when they are no longer warm, they still taste amazing and keep their awesome texture. From the cookie itself to the store hours, there is just no consistency, no 100% success here (even after the reopening). I do hope they better their situation. They're not a new store anymore for them to have continuing issues with hours and cookie stock, it's more like a false hype attempt to be as well known as Levain, or well known period but really they weren't ready for that. I hope the best for an Astoria business but I think the marketing strategy they're using is just helping the product go downhill, continuously being inconsistent, and just not delicious cookies. And I must say the #cookiemonster hashtag they've been trying to coin is quite annoying, I think they've just been way too focused on marketing and social media and not enough on the actual cookie itself. It seems like the lines have been shorter in recent weeks. Maybe people are catching on and are losing patience. Have seen there been almost no to little line at random times throughout the day. Still have a hate/love relationship with this spot, but here's a quick update on some newer flavors: THE FLAVORS - Carrot Cake: Thin line of whether you're eating cake or a cookie. One of their least sweet cookies. The texture is a bit off? It's like a weird in-between of a crumbly cookie and a cake. Solid cream cheese filling though. Good overall, but not anything particularly special. Would be much better if there was filling spread throughout. 7.5/10 - Cookies & Cream: Pretty much what you'd imagine. There are plenty of oreos or whatever cookies they use in this throughout. It does get a little sweet after a bit, so not sure if I could personally eat a whole one by myself without feeling my heart racing for a marathon. 10/10 - Oatmeal Raisin: Similar base to the Apple Oatmeal, but instead there's soft, chewy raisins and an orange zest throughout. I really want to love this place but it just didn't do it for me. The style of cookie is similar to Levain bakery as they are thick, cakey cookies with a soft center. We ordered the Mexican hot chocolate and smores cookies. The smores was the better of the two but still was nothing more than average. Lacked more of the graham cracker flavor. The Mexican hot chocolate was just not my style maybe. The hint of spice at the end was a little too overpowering and made it less of a dessert.
