Grabbed dinner for the family after reading here on yelp that were open. Otherwise, I would've thought they were still in the process of opening. Never saw grand opening or flyers in the mail. I was dining next door at Cafe Tria a while back, and the owner recommended this little resto specializing in rotisserie chicken. How about that for a friendly competitor? I had been in Mexico for four days, and driving home from the Irvine train station I flashed on this place. A basic meal was in order after the copious amounts of homemade salsa that I had consumed. OK, and a bit of alcohol as well. This is an order at the counter fast casual sorta place, with the rotisserie showing off the birds in the window. The owner was very cheery and helpful, and I ordered up the 1/4 chicken combo dark meat with cornbread, corn on the cob, and coleslaw. Per their menu everything is made in house daily, and by the freshness of all that I ate, that appears to be true. The chicken was nicely seasoned, the cornbread moist and tasty, and the corn on the cob exploded juices with each bite. Careful, you could poke an eye out of your dining mate! Awesome value here as the above meal was $7.50, and if I remember correctly, included a soft drink. If you live nearby this would be a terrific to-go option. read more

"Loser, loser, chicken dinner". Yea I know "winner, winner, chicken dinner" rhymes and sounds better, but that tune came to me after I tried the COMBO #2: 1/2 chicken and two sides for a little over $8 which I eventually threw away. Unheard of for me because I'll eat week old leftovers. KFC (across the street), Ralphs (across/down the street), Flame Broiler (down the street), BC Broiler (on Newport), Wing Stop, El Pollo Loco, Boston Market, and a bunch of other places all specialize or offer chicken, so why the hell would you think of opening up a chicken joint? Especially if your chicken isn't any better than the other places? Was having the word "natural" in your name the hook? Seriously? Because at the end of the day, that really means nothing cuz the chicken still sucks balls. The chicken was overcooked (dry) and the mixed rice was stale/old. The couscous was decent, but I'm not a big fan of raisins in which it had it's fair share of them. Then there's the "sauces" which are a hodgepodge of condiments from Japanese teriyaki to Peruvian aji. Seeing all these sauces, I can only think they have no idea what to do cuz they must not have preferences of their own, so they try to do it all. All of which are not the most appetizing sitting in various generic squeeze bottles, so I prefer to just go to a Japanese restaurant vs eating my teriyaki chicken with a side of Mexican rice, Middle Eastern couscous with a side of Peruvian aji which was all subpar, so I have to wonder why they're intent on doing a million things? Hoping they can appeal to a wider audience? Why not focus on one thing and do it better than everybody else?? The answer is, they sadly don't know how to, and that's unfortunate since the family seems extremely cool, especially their son who helped me choose things off their menu - that alone gets a 4+ stars. You can really tell who should be in the restaurant biz and the simple criteria is: first is you must love to cook which some may find surprising, but surprisingly you get people a good number of people who think the restaurant industry is an easy way to make money and that skill can just be hired - don't kid yourself. A close second is you also must love to eat. I like both, so I can replicate most dishes that I've eaten, but more importantly I can tell how much effort was put into a particular dish. In the case of Chixy, very little was put into it, to the point I know the owners do not love food. They may think they do, but they don't love food the way I do cuz if they did they wouldn't abuse their chicken the way they do. I for one know how to handle a chicken - I handle it with love (I've got chicken lovin' hands). It's not surprising how places like Zankou Chicken or any other restaurant survives like In'n'out with basically one item on the menu. Conveniently for me located at the corner of 17th and Irvine Ave, this place is the go to place if you want the world's best tasting chicken. The two ladies who run it are two sweethearts. All their sides are fresh, and the chicken is deliciously succulent and fresh. They're the only restaurant where if you ask for all dark meat, or chicken leg/thigh you won't be penalized with extra charge or bad attitude. Can't say enough good things about them. I'm a new customer, but the few times I've been there I noticed that their retention is very high as the restaurant operators would talk to their customers with their first name as if they know them. #Awesome read more

So long, in fact, that the cardboard-flavored mulch that most places serve counts as 'normal' to you. Seek tongue rehab. For those who find flavorful seasoning something that lifts the spirit, instead of something that confuses and offends - I highly recommend Chixy. They have simplified their process down to the judicial application of spice and the appropriate exposure to heat. These twin powers in the correct configuration yield mouth-watering delights that are healthy, simple and inexpensive. I generally hate white meat. It's dry, flavorless and often relies on gravy to become remotely palatable. I often wonder if people who prefer it are human. However, Chixy has white meat that is full of juiciness and flavor. I love it. Their dark meat is good enough to start religions. Snuff forest fires. It's good enough to save the whales. I honestly don't know what dark magic they employ - they may be witches. There are plenty of healthy choices in sides like couscous salad, baked sweet potato, steamed veggies. They even offer a paleo bowl! Our party came here after paddleboarding in the Back Bay. We were starving. My cousin ordered the 1/4 chicken combo with baked sweet potato, cornbread, and coleslaw (they were out of couscous) with lemon garlic sauce. Her husband and I both ordered the chicken wrap. Since it was a nice day, we sat outside. Our food arrived after a few minutes. The food is good. It's nice to know that the chicken is something I would buy for myself at the store and that the offerings are healthy. The chicken was tender, juicy, and flavorful. The green garlicky house sauce that came with my wrap was so good. I kept slathering it on because it was really tasty. The wrap was huge and had lettuce, tomato, cucumber and plenty of chicken in it. I didn't think I would finish both halves but I did because it was so yummy and I was starving. I needed a replacement spot for B.C. Broiler after my less than stellar experience when I was last there, and this place popped up looking like it could be the spot. Walking up, it looks very similar with a rotisserie cooking up succulent chicken, enticing fans of that juicy lean meat to stop in for a bite. And I did. They do chicken combo plates by the 1/4, 1/2, etc. I went with a 1/2 chicken and sides of baked sweet potatoes and couscous salad. My bread options were cornbread or a whole wheat tortilla, neither of which sounded good for this type of meal. I opted for the tortilla since I planned to make my own little tacos. Before I even get to the food, can I say how disconcerting it was to be served by a 30-something dude wearing fucking flip flops? Sanitary issues aside, I don't want to hear that clacking sound and have my eyes inadvertently drawn down to see your hairy hobbit feet moments before I'm about to eat. Christ... Anyway, food was good enough. I hate paying more for white meat chicken, and when I don't I'm reminded why I should've - dark meat offers less and isn't as good. But when you make it all-white meat the meal jumps up another $2-3, making it not so much of a deal. Baked sweet potatoes were decent, a little overcooked. Kinda slimy. My couscous salad was refreshing but they really overdid it with the cilantro, and I'm someone who doesn't mind a crapload of cilantro in my food. But this was overkill to the max. I've passed by this place pretty often and it does not look appealing what so ever. My boss raved about this place for weeks before I finally gave in and tried. When she told me what she loved....the chicken bowl...I was skeptical. It sounded so much like flame broiler but she promised the white meat chicken wasn't dry and the veggies were crisp. I called in an order of a chicken bowl with avocado and it was ready for pickup less than 10 minutes later. The inside was kind of...empty. There's always two ladies at the front that are quick to put together your order. On the side there is a sauce bar that you can fill up on whatever sauces you like. My boss told me that the sesame ginger was best. I brought it back to work and food was filled to the brim of the container. Took my first bite and let out an audible mmmmmmmm. The sauce smothered all over the crisp veggies, yummy chicken and flavorful brown rice was soooo good. The avocado was creamy and really topped off the rice bowl. For two bowls with avocado, it was only $18. So worth it for a healthy and filling lunch. I will definitely be back especially since it's so close to work read more

I believe the ladies taking the order are the owners; they are so nice and sweet. The lady who brought us the food was so nice and apologized so many times for bringing the wrong side dishes that I actually ended up feeling bad like it was my fault. Couldn't of asked for a better meal, I came to chixynatural after working out at the Newport Aquatic Center to fuel my body back up with some quality food, and that's exactly what I got. I was looking for a healthy place to eat at in the Costa Mesa area when I stumbled upon this hidden gem :) It's completely tucked away in a small corner plaza, but the food is impressive and affordable. They offer a variety of rotisserie chicken combinations, which come with mashed potatoes that are super good! I'm in love with their cornbread muffins too. They also have a sauce bar, so you can try a bunch of different sauces with your meat, but I personally think the chicken is already flavorful enough on its own! I love this place! read more

Stopped by here the other night after a visit to Ikea. We were drawn in by the open flames in the window. It is a small quaint little shop and we came 10 to 15 minutes prior to closing time . . . what can I say we love chicken. The prices are really inexpensive and they have a good variety of sides and entrees to choose from. The owner was super nice and was very helpful. They sell only organic natural chicken. We got in the car and ripped the box open and the chicken was moist and seasoned nicely. It went perfect over a salad for lunch the next day. I love Chixy! My girlfriend has Celiacs Disease which makes eating out difficult. She can however have Chixy's paleo bowl.
