I have been meaning to try the AYCE here and finally had the opportunity today - and definitely glad I did! To start with, there is a wide array of sushi choices to choose from, and with the AYCE I got to try a bunch. The fish was fresh and of great quality, which is awesome considering the AYCE weekend price isn't too bad! I would say the sushi carpaccios were a standout but the fresh rolls were also very delicious too. The best part about my time here was the incredibly friendly service. I was mainly taken care of by Dyllon but also assisted by Shun who were both super nice and were more than happy to explain the menu and offer their recommendations. Since I came alone they made sure to accommodate and made the experience coming solo a 20 out of 10. This place is awesome. I went during dinner, solo (like a psychopath); joking. The service was great, and it cost me roughly $65-70 including tip. I did the 12-piece sashimi plus AYCE. The best part is they are fast, and the waitresses don't abandon you like some places do, which slows down the service. As you can see in the photos, they give you a solid slice of fish with a perfect size of rice. I respect that they focus on highlighting the fish instead of serving overly large rice balls with a slice of fish. Please Read. I walked in for the first time, was Greeted by David, it was right when they opened on a weekday, super friendly and inviting. I recently got diagnosed as being diabetic which can be a challenge when you go to an all you can eat sushi bar. I asked David if there was a way to ask for light rice given you are supposed to eat everything at all you can eat sushi places, he was super cool and under standing and said they really don't put much rice but would mention it to the person preparing my orders. To be clear I'm an omakase guy, this is not all you can eat quality fish. It's actually very good quality, my yellow tail was more like yellow tail belly, fish was truly fresh, did not feel like assembly line all you can eat sushi. Salad was super cold and fresh, came with avocado. I really recommend you try this place, service was excellent and so was the food. I'm a local and this may have displaced some of my omakase joints on my rotation. Want to reiterate, not your typical all you can eat here, very good quality. read more

Got the Spicy Tuna on Crispy Rice, 007 Roll, and the lunch special of Half Udon Half Karaage. While waiting, they brought us some fried onion rings! I enjoyed the fried foods here, it wasn't too heavy and nicely crispy. The roll was decent, fish tasted ok but wish I had just tried the sashimi or nigiri. Y'all have no idea how long I've been wanting to try this place after passing by it days and days on end. Some things were REALLY good (the first round), but the rest of the rounds were mediocre to say the least. The baked roll that we got came in a bowl?? Like deconstructed??? We were so confused. When it came to ordering food, I feel like we were doubted a lot. As the food on the table grew slim, we were trying to order another round. The older woman kept telling us that there was more food on the table and that we can't order more... The thing we like about AYCE is that we could eat all we can, not just once food is cleared from the table. Something that really put us off at the table was one of the servers' actions. He asked one person at our table very quietly, "Sir, do you want some water?" Then, he proceeded to go to another table to fill their's up. I then proceeded to ask another server for water. Then he turned and looked at the same guy, and asked him to get us water. He then came around our friend, and muttered, "My bad," and filled mine up as well. It's truly not about the water. It's that we were treated less than (a man). The rest of the service was solid, but that rubbed us the wrong way. Again, we came back last night around 7:30pm because of their good food and good service. As always David, a young man will never disappointed us. He's very nice and sweet. He managed the tables quickly even though we had to wait more than 30 minutes due to the crowd so that's understandable. With the amounts of food we ordered (sorry I forgot to take pictures. Will do next time ). The price per person is reasonably. Especially, we paid only 1/2 price for our kids since my 8 years old daughter could not eat sushi, no rare. She ate mainly the salted eggs rolls . It's worth it. Thanks again to David. We have been to many All You Can Eat Sushi places, so far this will be our favorite place now. And all the people there are nice, too. I believe the owner must be a nice person and influenced all the employees. We will definitely come back again. I never leave reviews, but I felt like I had to share my experience. We waited for a table, and once we were finally seated, our server (with pink hair) only brought us water and ginger--no chopsticks or further assistance. After that, we waited about 15 minutes trying to get someone's attention to take our order, but we were repeatedly passed by and completely ignored. It was incredibly frustrating, especially since we were very hungry and ready to order. The lack of attention and basic service made the experience really disappointing. When I moved to Costa Mesa a couple of years ago and had Sushi Imari within walking distance I couldn't have been more excited. We would dine-in or take-out about once a month. When I saw they were becoming an AYCE place, I was a little concerned but was open to trying it out. Unfortunately, my fears came true. The menu changed and some sushi/maki options that were favorites are no longer available. The quality went down, not only in the fish, but also in the atmosphere and service. It's very disappointing. While nowhere near the worst sushi restaurant, we haven't returned since our first visit after the change. Instead of a less than 5 minute walk, I now drive 5-10 minutes and go to another sushi restaurant nearby that now is several rungs above Chobop in quality when they were pretty comparable before. I write this review not in hate, but in the hopes they return to what they once were so I can stop having to drive for sushi. read more

Sushi were average, not great and not bad The layout of the place is open space, giving you a feel of being in the dining hall. The place gets crowded during dinner hour. So avoid peak hours (7pm) if you don't want to wait. We got there at 6-6:30 and were seated right away at one of the last tables. Being that it gets crowded, the service was a little disorganized. Our orders were served after the tables that were seated after us, and not everything came out at the same time. They also missed a sushi order, which I cancelled. They did realized the mistake and brought out a service item, a salmon collar, which I thought was nice. Overall, it's an average run of the mill sushi place. Took takeout on a Friday night and was an overall great experience. We ordered a good amount of rolls that all were fresh and good rice to fish ratio. Everything was packaged nicely for the to go order. To go on a Friday night took about an hour from my call in which would be expected. Inside dining look very busy but moving. You can walk in and sign your name on the board and they will text you when a table is available. Will update review when I eat in one day! We tried the Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice. It was good but they baked a layer of seaweed into it that my wife didn't care for. We only needed 3 orders of the seared salmon sushi (2 pieces per), and 2 orders of bluefin tuna sushi (2 pieces per). Next time we won't get the Bikini roll (rice-less) because it contains shrimp tempura that my wife no longer cares for. We'll try some other rolls and even maybe the Udon noodles next time. So the sushi here was basically blah and here is why. The protein on the rainbow roll didn't seem very fresh and looked like the left-over parts of a larger piece of fish (aside from the shrimp). All the rolls had the same issue to me. The rice. For me, the difference between an outstanding sushi place and an average sushi place isn't always the fish, but it usually the rice. The rice lacked that tenderness and seemed more like a refrigerated roll that was pre-done and then topped a while later. Just wasn't quality sushi rice. The rolls easily fell apart and you'd get like that clump of rice that was a touch hard that would fall off. The value wasn't horrible with regard to price. The service was very kind and also helpful. The tables and menus were clean and it had a decent lunch vibe. I didn't particularly like that I couldn't see my sushi being prepared, as there is a shoulder high wall blocking the prepping area. All in all, I'd choose other places but would say maybe you should give this place a try and you'll have better luck than I did on my visit. read more

No wait on a Friday evening around 7:30pm for two. This restaurant has plenty of seating and they were showing NBA playoffs on the TVs which was a big plus. We ordered two non-alcoholic beverages, the jalapeño bomb (not pictured), in n out roll, and sunrise roll. The rolls took awhile to be served, I was honestly starting to get a little hangry. They did give us complimentary gyoza on the house though. The jalapeño bomb was a tempura jalapeño stuffed with cream cheese and topped with fresh spicy tuna with soy sauce and spicy mayo. It was very tasty. The two rolls were both fresh and really good portions. My friend and I left full and satisfied. The service was probably the best I've ever had at a restaurant, everyone was extremely polite and helpful. The menu is pretty big, but not overwhelming! There was music playing in the background that wasn't too loud, but wasn't too quiet, it was very clean inside the restaurant overall! We came here on a Friday around dinner time, and it was not busy at all. I will definitely come back, especially because the cost is not crazy expensive and it was pretty quick to get food out so you don't feel too full too fast. This new AYCE place used to be called Sushi Imari. The ownership is the same but they have rebranded and remodeled the restaurant. We were a party of 2 that came right when the restaurant opened. The food was a bit hit or miss. The striped bass, salmon belly, yellowtail belly, and cajun salmon were all very good. The toro was super sinewy, the uni was fishy. The service was friendly however the food took far too long to come out. For our first round it took 15 minutes when we were the only guests in the restaurant. The second round took 41 minutes when the restaurant was at less than 25% capacity. I was hopeful that chobop would contend with some other AYCE heavy hitters like Sushi Damu or Here Fishy Fishy but sadly they fell a little bit short. read more

I would say this place is a solid 6/10 in terms freshness and service. The atmosphere feels pretty homey, in my opinion. When you walk in, there is a paper waitlist for you to join and we got seated in about 20 minutes by a server. The first round was pretty quick but after that service was slow but I think that's because they only had two servers who were also seating and bussing tables. The sushi itself was a good enough quality, the slices were cut weird, some of the fried options tasted old, and the fish to rice ratio was pretty good.
