FYI: Apparently the stylists here are not technically "salon employees" but rent out the space to do their work. Even then, they still represent the business to me. I came here over the summer and too bad I didn't read the reviews to be sure to only go to "Sally". They instead took me to a man to cut and perm my hair. I have never had a good experience with hair growing up in the Bay Area, and I will still continue to do my hair only in Asia. He didn't seem to know what he was doing at ALL and when he was wrapping my hair in the curls to prepare for my perm, he kept dropping everything and putting it back in my hair. He was so clumsy and clueless I was so confused as to what was happening. No offense to him, and I feel horrible saying this, but I just had a horrible experience. NOT ONLY THAT, but the craziest part was that after my hair was done, another employee told my mom it was a shame we went with him because he was the worst one there! WHAT?!?! My hair was ABSOLUTELY fried and the worst I've ever seen. I had to tie it up for days until it was just ok. I just went to my normal hairdresser and she said my hair was the driest she's ever seen. I figured my hair was just dry after coming to Choco because maybe my hair was done with perms and I should take a break, but my regular hairdresser made my hair look amazing and so smooth. This salon is not only for haircut. in the back room, there is the most facial expert I've met in the bay area, and her name is Mei. Mei does a fantastic job for facial. She is very thorough and into details. She cleans, removes black spots, use all nice machines, and in the end she also gave you a nice neck and shoulder massage with some really fragrant lotion. A little about how much she is into details - normally when people removes the black heads from your face, it pinches a little bit. To make it easier for her customers, she got some medical power that eases this sensation, so that you won't hurt too much. Mei has a Chinese medicine background, so she always use nice organic herbal product. Her products feel so good on the face!! A couple of years ago, my face got some allergic reaction to a face wash I used. It turned red, hard, and it hurts. I came to Mei for rescue. She gave me some simple organic mist, and some of her medical use herbal lotion, in 2 days my face returned to normal. If you want some skin care product recommendation, she is the best person to go! About the machines, Mei use all top of line devices. One machine to highlight. I forgot the name of this little magic magnetic machine. It literally lifts the skin and ease the wrinkles! At my eye I don't have much wrinkle, but the "laughing wrinkle" started to show up. the first time Mei used this machine on me, she did only half of the face first , and let me see the difference. The part that the machine has worked on is visibly lifted and shined. Like a miracle. Last but not least, Mei is very reasonable on the price. I've been coming here to see her for a while now and she is always very open and honest about the cost. She is so pleasant to talk to. it's absolutely a treat to go to see her, have her make your face feel good, and chat with this lovely lady. Will recommend her to everyone and anyone! read more

It is very painful when he comb my hair since he is VERY VERY rude. The WORST thing is that he made my fringe SUPER SUPER UGLY and look manly!! Part of my fringe is too short that they just keep standing. In total, he finished the cutting within 15mins. This is weeks overdue but I just want to say that I'm not coming back here again. I got my hair dyed here and I asked for brown hair and the hairdresser gave me black hair.. So few days later, I called her and asked if she can fix my hair because it looks clearly black, not brown. After she "fixed" my hair trying to make it brown, now my hair came out looking more ginger orange than brown. I complained to her that I don't like it and she said I would have to pay more to tone my hair down. Why do I have to pay more for a hair color that I CLEARLY asked for in the first place? This is the worse place for haircuts. I had some Tattoo guy cut my hair (I think his name was Leo). He cannot speak in English and he is the worse hair person I've ever seen. He didn't know what he was doing and didn't seem to have any knowledge about hairstyles. At some point during my hair cut, he held all my hair and was about to chop off - I got so scared at his technique that I stopped him from chopping. He retaliated and chopped it anyway. The first time I went, the haircut was OK, I guess. But the haircutter was not very nice at all. She became super annoyed for some reason, and asked where I had cut my hair previously. I told her, and then she proceeded to talk about how terrible my haircut was, and how no one is ever supposed to do that, and how she was going to ask them where they had learned to cut hair, because it was just so awful. I wasn't sure what to do... For some reason, I came back and tried a second time, and this time she completely ruined my haircut. She just kind of did her own thing. She also remembered the last time I came, and said "your haircut last time was just so scary." OK, I understand now. Sheesh. She cut my bangs way too short, and significantly changed my part, all while not speaking to me. She didn't ask about how she should cut my hair, or how much shorter I wanted it. This is probably the worst haircut I've had by far. Sally sounds like she's favorable. Unfortunately I had some guy with a tattoo sleeve who doesn't speak English. Which is fine, I brought pictures anyways. The guy doesn't look like he knows how to cut hair. I'm pretty sure he caught himself messing up at some point and kept trying to fix it so my hair is super short and still looks like a mess. Best place for hair straightening. Sally is amazing with permanent straightening. I have long, very curly hair and she is meticulous. I've gone several other places and done keratin straightening, Brazilian blow out and Japanese straightening. I like keratin and Brazilian but they don't leave your hair completely straight and require a little work. First time I tried Japanese somewhere else it didn't work. I came to Choco and had it done and was hooked! It was amazing. Absolutely requires no work. Dries perfect, no blow drying needed. I'm not kidding! I've come back 3 times always with excellent results. It takes about 4 hours, but I only come once every 4-6 months. And in between I literally wash my hair and go... let it dry on the way. Also contrary to what some say, my hair still curls great with curling iron or flat iron if I want to wear curly. read more
