I visited this location on Wednesday, around 12:50pm. This location is conveniently located across from the Capitol, next to the Hyatt Regency. When I arrived there was no line and I was helped very quickly. I didn't have time to read the menu in depth, but I just asked if they had an iced matcha latte and they did. I decided to add a quick bite to eat since I had just come straight from the airplane and had a meeting to attend at 1pm. I ordered the spinach and feta wrap. Both items's subtotal was $16.09. The staff was very friendly, and efficient. Both my items came out fairly quickly. In terms of staff interactions, we were having trouble getting the water dispenser working, and the employee just showed us that you have to push it extra hard. It was nice that she was helpful and friendly about it. In terms of my order, both items came out accurately. I was a little surprised to see the wrap, as I was expecting something the shape of a burrito, and not something so flat. However, regardless of the looks - it still tasted great. Overall, this is a great little coffee shop to go to when you're in a rush and need to get a little caffeine or a little snack. I look forward to coming back when I'm in the area and trying more coffee based drinks. read more

Stopped in with a friend last weekend while in the area, and after realizing there was Chocolate Fish coffee shop now in the area. Before this visit, I was only aware of the location off of Freeport. It turned out this particular location open about a year ago. Because there was a large event at the Safe Credit Union which is around the corner, there probably had been a number of people who'd come through by the time we arrived. So there were a number of breakfast items that they were already out of when we stopped in. Coffee: Mocha Latte (hot) Vanilla Latte (iced) Food: Almond butter toast & bananas Avocado toast 2 whole eggs The Vanilla Latte was good, and the banana toast was reallu good. And not something I would've normally ordered. So I lucked out woth them being out of a lot of their other breakfast bites. I judge coffee shops by their black brewed coffee. I got a 12-ounce cup in the late morning. The coffee was good, but nothing exceptional. What really stood out to me was the presentation and the beautiful blue-and-yellow colors. If I'm in the area and walking by, I'd definitely stop in and grab a cup. Opened last summer, so not new-new anymore, but still nice to have one closer to me since the SLP one closed. =( This one is right near by the Capitol in the Hyatt Regency Hotel. It's usually not busy, and there's plenty of seating. I like the open layout and the people watching bar chairs and long table along one side and regular seating throughout the rest of the coffee shop. Service is efficient and friendly and they make a smooth cup of latte here. But what I really like is their mango loose leaves tea, since I'm more of a tea drinker. It's refreshing made into an iced tea, but equally delicious as a warming comfort hot tea on a cold winter's day. When the weather is nice, there's patio seating to sit outside too. I'm glad Chocolate Fish opened this new calm and cool location for a nice mid day office break. read more

I stopped by Chocolate Fish and ordered the cheddar scallion scone and their seasonal iced cherry latte with cold foam. The scone was delicious and flavorful but not overpowering on the scallions (which is key when you have places to be after). The iced cherry latte was SO good. Perfect balance of coffee and cherry, and I'd absolutely order it again. I also love the vibe of this location. It's a great spot to get some work done or have a casual coffee meeting. Great new location that is conveniently placed and room to stay and enjoy. Fairly newly opened and dressed for the holidays, my first experience here was welcoming. Enjoyed being able to hand out a while with my iced tea and book. The seating is plentiful inside with tables, a community tables, as well as a bar style table by the window. The view was fine as a corner spot that allowed some watching of the street activities. With a parking garage half a block away, it is not hard to get a spot. Chocolate Fish Coffee Roasters will always hold a special place in my heart. I vividly remember 12 years ago visiting the location that was near the CalPERS building on P street. I cannot speak to the taste of the coffee; however, I do remember the coffee satisfied my need for caffeine (I was a sleep-deprived new father), along with receiving a chocolate bar in the shape of a fish with my order. Therefore, I was ecstatic when a friend of mine suggested that we meet at the new location. Entering the establishment, I observed that it was fairly busy; however, there were many employees behind the counter and one was anxiously awaiting to take our orders. I placed an order for a small Honeycomb latte. Considering the size of the crowd, I was shocked that our drinks were ready less than eight minutes later. After a few sips, I knew that I made the right choice! Although the nearby construction paired with the limited parking serves as a small barrier, I love the close proximity of this location to my office. This location is conveniently located next to the Capitol and a fairly busy Hyatt hotel. The coffee is great, the pastries and sandwiches are good but the biggest downside to this location is - no parking. While it is located next to the hotel, the parking is for hotel guests. There are some parking on the streets but it's a hit and miss. There are a good amount of seats inside as well as outside. The outside seating is shared with the hotel "designated smoking area". Overall a good spot for coffee while walking around the Capitol. read more

I've been to Chocolate Fish a few times to accompany my coworkers and had been wanting to try their Belgian Waffle for a while as an afternoon work snack since you can also add ice cream on top for an additional dollar. I finally got it, and I think it was the perfect snack! The waffle with the ice cream on top was just $5.95, which I felt was very fair for the size and what you're getting. The ice cream was very refreshing (you could pick either vanilla or chocolate). My only negative was the waffle could have been better. I wish the waffle was fluffy, but I know that's not always possible in a cafe. I will say I love the overall space of Chocolate Fish. There is ample seating inside and the outdoor area is huge, which isn't very common in downtown Sacramento I feel. read more

Walked in and made a decision on what I wanted and was greeted by the nicest new friend- Maddie! She told me that they had only been open 8 days and was giving me some recommendations on the menu! They offer a great variety of pastries along with an impressive selection of coffee drinks. I ordered a mocha, and unlike most places where I usually need to add extra sweetness, this one was perfect just as it was. I also tried their pumpkin cream muffin, which was soft, fresh, and absolutely delicious. On top of that, the baristas were friendly and cool, making the whole experience even better. Very cool spot in Sacramento. Stopped in for a pre-dinner coffee and truly enjoyed the experience. This location has a large outdoor space, something that is limited in this part of Sacramento. Their indoor space is also adequate with quite a few tables. My wife and I both ordered off of the seasonal menu and our drinks were great. The flash brew was something unique that I had never had before. For how empty the place was, the service was a bit slow, but it's all good. I did not know that Chocolate Fish was such a prolific coffee roaster in the area. After going here I suddenly noticed their logo and coffee being served in many other cafes and coffee shops. Ordered my usual latte with almond milk and the quality was consistent with the other two Chocolate Fish Coffee Roaster locations. I've always been a huge fan because they use Blue Diamond Almond milk and one of the few places I like my latte plain with no sugar. Great and convenient location with lots of outdoor seating as well. Love seeing a local coffee shop replace Starbucks. My only complaint was the Matcha Waffle, it was really bad/soggy and wayyy too sweet. I don't know why I was expecting the matcha waffle to be matcha flavored, not just the dusting on top. Plus, there was way more powder sugar than matcha powder, and I couldn't even taste the matcha. It was too sweet even paired with a drink without sugar, so I was very disappointed. So skip this item on the Spring Menu. Might go back to try the Black Cherry Vanilla Oat latte though. read more

We came here on our trip and were thrilled. They were reasonably fast, rather efficient and and it was a comfortable place to wait. Their Cherry Top Matcha was truly to die for, sweet and creamy! I had no idea this location opened already, so I ran on over to get my caffeine fix. They're in a prime location adjacent to the Hyatt, with an entrance on L St as well as 12th St. I really can't stress how good of a location it is for anyone working at or around the Capitol as you can cut through the park. Service was both quick and very friendly! The beehive brew was sweet & strong, just how I like it. There's a good amount of seating for my professionals that enjoy having coffee chats, but it does fill up! Luckily, there's plenty of outdoor seating as well. i go semi frequently as I work nearby. Some staff are kind and attentive. Often feels like a chaotic vibe inside the store and I am sometimes left waiting at the register to finish my order. Today while ordering, the oven beeped and when I asked for an additional item, the server cut me off, said "hold on", and held her finger out to my face signaling "one moment" and then turned around to the oven. Staff was friendly and courteous. Ordered the hazelnut latte and avo toast w/"the works". Took a bit to get my toast, but it was really good, as was the latte. My concern - as I waited for my toast, 3 of the 4 employees began unloading very full trash bags from containers behind the counter (I was there following what was probably the morning rush.) Not one employee washed her hands after dealing with nasty trash bags. A customer came in and she happily used her dirty hands to make the customer's latte. Yuk! read more

She accidentally made me a Regular Latte, which was too bitter for my taste, too hot temperature. I knew it was off after a couple sips. I asked the barista she admitted it was a regular latte not a Mocha and offered remake it. It took a few minutes on a semi-busy Sunday but it looked and tasted great! Much better, perfect drinkable temperature. I could've chosen to return the first one for a refund and walked out the door, but I believe in second chances so I gave her a chance to remake it. Much better. A Perfect Lotus flower replaced the Swan. Warm, filling and satisfying. Three Vegan cookie varieties available too in to go outside source baked packaging. Unisex bathroom available with code for paying customers only. The men need to learn/remember proper social etiquette and put the seat down. Have respect for the ladies who follow.
