What a dump. It had a makeshift shelter feel to it. I hadn't been in a Chompie's in 20yrs and it was a bizarre experience. I walked up to the counter and looked up at the "menu"... it was really unclear as to what my options for breakfast sandwiches were. The cashier named off some options and I ordered a egg, spinach and cheese bagel sandwich and coffee. I searched for the restroom and it was pretty disgusting and in a rather strange location. I went back to the counter and was handed a styrofoam cup and a styrofoam box with my sandwich in it. I sat down inside at a dirty table and ate my mediocre sandwich. WTAF? Chompies is no longer a New York Deli. It's more gentrified and getting closer and closer to Jason's Deli. It's no longer good, no longer "Homey Feeling" and the feel of New York wanes hard. The Family no longer owns this place and it's a shell of what it once was. The Corned beef and Pastrami is not close to the same. The Pot. Salad comes from a container. Potato pancakes fail. Knishes are absolutely horrible. TBH...the bagels don't quite taste the same either. Lox plate is gone....and so am I. Place absolutely sucks now. Our first visit to Chompie's has been fantastic! Our Server Jackie was outstanding!! I I do not use that description lightly. She was friendly, personable and very knowledgeable of the menu. The food and atmosphere are good but this review is in appreciation of a server. Austin is a server that we have had on a few occasions. Not only does he always remember us but his service is always outstanding. This past week as we came for dinner after being at the hospital Austin showed the type of person that he is. Extremely disappointing experience. July 14, 2021. Went to Chompies for an evening meal. The cashier, Olivia, seemed to ignore us for 5 mins while staring aimlessly at bagels. There was no line and she seemed bothered that we were there at all. Placed our order and told her that her screen was wrong and she said she'll just tell the cook. As expected, the order was wrong and she got an attitude with me for sending it back and said I never told her that there were errors in the beginning. After sending it back, it took 30 seconds for them to take off the cheese, I had to request that it'd be remade. The cheese was already melting on the bread and fries. The customer service is severely lacking for this cashier and she doesn't want to take orders, maybe she shouldn't work here. I will not return again. Stop supporting this terrible place. read more

This was my husband and my first time visiting Chompie's and what an unexpected wonderful experience. We were warmly greeting by a lovely woman who really made us feel welcome. After ordering the manager came out with a plate of latkes complimentary just for being first timers. He sincerely seemed both happy to have us and wanting to make sure we had a nice meal. I had the hot pastrami sandwich and my husband had the corned beef and they were both excellent. The cole slaw is good as well. Our server was equally wonderful. We've done take out several times since COVID started. We had some very good meals. However the last couple of times have been really disappointing. Staff has been inattentive and poorly trained; tonight's sandwich breads (2 different kinds) were both extremely stale. French fries were flabby. There were approximately 20 tables with 3 taken by customers. The rest were empty. In the take out area there are 3 tables and they where full. Outside in the 50 degree wind, all the tables were empty. So outside we went sitting on frigid iron chairs while there were warm empty tables just inside. We were in fact customers, we bought the food in your establishment, just on the wrong side of the partition. Your food may be good enough but you have failed to offer me the experience I have come to expect from delis like Einstein Brothers. You failed to make me feel like a valued customer. I am annoyed. Let me be clear, I've purchased dozens of bagels from this Chompies and they're always good. Big, fluffy with a little exterior crunch. The ordering process is simple and quick and the price is low. Yet, I am annoyed. I came in this late morning for a breakfast sammich. I ordered an everything bagel, toasted with a fried egg and sausage. I don't get down with the cheese. I get my sammich home and open it up and am immediately annoyed. Hence, why I'm annoyed. I will attach a photo, but allow me to describe. The bagel is burnt on the inside edges, like Black. The egg is overcooked, not hot and runny like it should be. And the sausage is literally the size of a silver dollar. It BARELY covers half the bagel. I mean, come on. I ate most of it, but it was dry, with no salt or pepper or any seasoning beside the bagel itself. The sausage tasted like nothing. So annoying. All deli is not created equal nor is everything that comes out of the same kitchen the equal in quality. In Beverly Hills the best corned beef (Nate and Al's)can be accompanied by the worst latkes(Nate and Al's). In New York you'll get steered specifically to the brisket at Katz. For our money the best pastrami is Chompies in Scottsdale. They won't cater to hoopleheads who request lean pastrami like it's corned beef. Chompies slow cooks the smoked and rubbed brisket so that the seasoning melts into the fat cap and permeates the flat meat. It forms an unctuous glaze that raises a simple sandwich on double baked rye, to the level of vision quest. The potato salad is spot on to our taste. Great personalized service. I'm a big Chompie's fan. I eat at their Tempe, and Shea location on the occasion and am usually very content with the food. Chompie's is true to the authentic New Yorker. I, personally, never lived in New York, but my sister and brother-in-law lived there for over 10 years and say that Chompie's hold true to the mentality and tradition. Their matzo ball soup is delicious. I love their Brooklyner, and the Club. Their breakfast skillets are top-notch, and they have courteous servers. This most recent trip I went in and had an odd request. My jaw is currently fractured and I can't chew. I asked if they could blend my matzo ball chicken noodle soup and bring it out to me. The waitress was so helpful and told me it wouldn't be a problem. When they brought it out it was all liquified, and it was WONDERFUL! It still had all the flavors of the soup, and the puree that I had in front of me was perfect for my jaw. I was so appreciative that they would take the time to do that for me while I can't chew right now. And to the waitress it was so nonchalant, I never felt like I was imposing that request on her. I am definitely a fan! When you go, make sure to check out their bread items (bagels), and the HUGE assortment of sweets. Being the nice Jewish girl that I am, I love good Jewish food. Finding this place was the closest thing I could get to good home cooked Jewish food. Its not the greatest deli I have eaten at, BUT, I think its the most authentic deli that the valley has to offer! The portions are huge, wide selection of food, deserts and deli cases. But....every time I eat a bagel and cream cheese here I get sick. ?? Not sure if it's old? Not fresh? Contaminated? I did the take out for my wife who is sick in the hospital next door. I asked for a chicken soup but what i received was a chicken noodle soup without a single piece of chicken in it. Not only she is able to eat any carbs due to her diet in the hospital, she wasn't able to get her protein. When I called to ask whether the chicken soup is just broth or actually comes with chicken, I was put on hold for a long time and only told to come back to get some chicken if i wanted. She was going into a procedure the next day and i was hoping her last meal before her big procedure was decent. Not a word if i am sorry nor let me make it right can out. There today with a friend. It was not crowded but woman who seated us seemed disinterested; no smile or warm greeting. The waitstaff was mediocre at best--no offer to even refill water glasses. Needed to ask for two containers to take home--no I do not want to intermingle fruit with a bagel!!! Then I had to ask for a bag in which to put the two containers. The bakery items look wonderful but the prices are outrageous--$16.00 per lb for cookies. I have been many times and the one in PV mall is much friendier and welcoming. This place is a rip OFF.. don't eat here. The pastrami sandwich was the worst. Rye bread and meat. No mustard, no nothing. No cheese. 1/2 sandwich.. cold potatoes. Where do I begin? I have a penchant for Jewish delis since I've lived in LA for several years. My favorites out there being: Canter's and Jerry's. Yeah, hate on me. I like what I like. Today, it was time for something a little different for lunch. I was sick of eating leftovers or a Trader Joe's salad. I hopped onto Yelp and read some of the reviews of this place since it seems that Chompie's has quite the reputation around town. I pulled up the menu and was surprised to find out that there is a "Fitness Boot Camp" menu. Most items here are reasonable...somewhat. This is a Jewish deli afterall....a glutton's paradise. I ordered the Mile High Turkey Pastrami on Multi Grain Bread with Fruit Salad. My tomato, lettuce and onion was all on the side. No condiments on the sandwich. Perfect. I didn't need to request it this way. Thank God. When I came in to pick it up, the person who prepared my sandwich, opened up the box, went over my sandwich with me to make sure it was everything I asked for. AWESOME SERVICE. I walked out of there with a smile. The sandwich was delicious. The turkey pastrami was NOT dry, the bread was fresh, the fruit was perfect, and I was a very happy camper. I can't wait to come back! Wow, what a disappointment, especially for the prices they charge. I'm visiting from back east so I have only that to compare to but for comparable prices charged, Chompie's is WAY overpriced for what you get. The word that kept coming to mind while I was eating was "skimping". From something as minor as the salad plate sized plates your meal comes on, to the lack of all-you-can-eat pickles (they don't serve pickles at all), to the "condiment" sized container they serve their sides in (at $2.50 each), to the quality and amount of meat on their sandwiches, again compared to the NY style restaurants back east that they are trying to emulate, there is just no comparison. The staff was extremely friendly and attentive and I'm glad I tried them but it will be my first and only visit. read more
