Okay... good for you little Btown! You finally have a place that has a little hip to it. The atmosphere is really fun with all its used-and-abused gas station and roadside memorabilia. The menu seemed appetizing with some 'big city flare' (kinda cringed there just writing that, but it's true) and slightly healthful choices for the carnivores. They do also accommodate vegetarians slightly and vegans even slightly less, but they were definitely accommodating. Like that or not, whether its heard or not, vegetarian and vegan lifestyles are becoming way more prominent even in smaller cities... and they are the people who don't mind spending money going out to eat something delicious! If they don't know you have options, they won't come (good or bad I suppose!) I'm not sure why meat has to be equated with gluttony and over the top decadence in smaller cities like this.. It's like, "I eat meat wrapped in meat on a mayonnaise meat wrap and proud of it" attitude. But they really do a great job here. The staff was super fun, the place was clean and it brought a nice downtown vibe to downtown. It's online presence however is sincerely lacking. I'm reading the stellar reviews on this restaurant. First impressions of the waitress don't impress me at all. Just got my breakfast, smells incredible. Home now. Waitress seemed to get better, maybe she saw my Yelp screen open :) I ordered their one breakfast called The Morning After" which the menu describes as 2 eggs, 2 bacon, 2 sausage, home fries, and a piece of toast. An entire piece of toast, and ALL for ME! 3 kinds of toast, I should have gotten the rye because so few places offer it, but in my usual breakfast rut I ordered wheat, and the waitress left without asking me which meat byproduct I wanted. I found out why, and quickly, the food came out very fast! And the reason she didn't ask which meat byproduct I wanted was because they give you BOTH! Plus a mess of diced fried potatoes (call me a purist but to me, they aren't home fries without onions and peppers, at least onions). I asked for my eggs as any good western Pennsylvanian would, "firm whites and dippy yolks" (called 'over medium' in some places), and here they have a lady cook who knows *exactly* how to fix them. Overall, terrific breakfast. Had to wait a while for a coffee refill though. Being greeted with "You waiting for someone" as opposed to something like "Good morning, would you like some coffee?" and the wait for the refill kept me from hitting 5 stars. The motif of the place is a mix of gas station memorabilia and local Butler memorabilia. The men's room wall is painted with chalkboard paint and they even leave a couple of pieces of chalk to write upon the wall. I left a sketch, a bust of an anthropomorphic fox stating that even furries like eating there. Chance of coming back when I'm back in my hometown? Being a Butler native, now living in Detroit, I am so happy to see something like this in my home town. After spending a lot of time at the hospital visiting my mom who was having a rough go of it, my Dad, sis and I were looking for some good comfort food. We definitely found it at the Chop Shop. The menu is just the right size with just the right variety of classic and sophisticated options for those with a clamoring for plain old BBQ and those who might like a little goat cheese and sun dried tomato polenta. And in the end, it was delicious and affordable. If I could give a half star this would be a 4 1/2 star review. My burger was a little over cooked. That and a liquor license for some good craft beer would get them a solid 5. We'll be back for sure. read more

The menu is diverse enough where you can order something different each time and not get bored with the place. The food is also consistently good. This trip I started off with the chili which was very hearty and delicious. For the main meal I had the Roundabout with a side salad instead of fries. It was also very good. We happened upon The Chop Chop and could not have been more delighted. The evening special was prime rib and it may have been the best I have ever had. They have crazy liquor laws so if you wish you can BYOB. Additional points for our SUPERWAITER Kelsey and the other Kelsey that was also working. I'll start by saying that I work on main street in Butler, and if I decided that day that I wasn't going to pack my lunch, I order Chop Shop for pick up. And the first thing I always ask when I call is "What's the special, and is it awesome?" It usually is. Bill, the owner, knows what he's doing. Zack, who started as a line cook and has been here since the beginning, also helps create dishes. Perhaps others as well, but I don't know them, so I can't name drop. I have eaten here countless times for breakfast and lunch and a few times for dinner. I even went to their Sunday brunch a couple times that they used to do when they first opened. Man, I miss that. When I get dinner with a few friends we always bring a growler or 6 pack since it's BYOB (bring your own boo-ya!). It's even better now that there are two breweries within walking distance. Breakfast: I always do coffee and their omelet. It's like $7 or $8 and you can put anything you want in it, provided they have it in their kitchen. I used to get top round when they had the Get-a-Round, but I don't think they carry that anymore. So choose a meat or five that they do have, some veggies, cheese, whatever. It's great and giant! Also, the way they do their omelets are with paper thin eggs, and oh man, it's awesome. I've tried to recreate it at home and it never turns out as good. Oh, and rye toast, of course. Apps: Get real. Hare Tacos or BBQ Pork Nachos. Nothing else needs to be talked about...because...why would it when those are options? Lunch/Dinner: As I mentioned above, I almost always get the special. However, that is because I eat here often enough that I've had most everything else and I'm always looking for something fresh. That being said, the stuff they do have on their regular menu are there for a reason. The Get-a-Round (if they have it...it seems to come and go), Backfire Wrap, Sausage Wallet, Eternal Damnation, The Redneck, Ah Reuben, any of the burgers. Okay, I just listed half of their menu, but seriously, they're all worth mentioning. OH! I can't believe I almost forgot one of my all time favorite things about this place. The fries. I love fries and I don't discriminate on fries because they're mostly all good. Even bad fries are still good because they are fries. But as everyone knows, some fries outperform others. And The Chop Shop is in my top 3 places for quality fries. Always crispy, but without ever being overdone. They almost have a breading on them. And get a side of Buffalo Bleu to dip them in. Wow what a burger! We stopped in for the first time today and were very hungry. We grabbed a table and were greeted quickly. Ordered our drinks and had a good look at the menu. Several items sounded really tempting but we both decided on the Nirvana. I mean really who can pass up an 8 oz burger cooked to order with your choice of toppings? Plenty of toppings to pick from as well as sides. My daughter had hers medium with a chicken egg, lettuce, tomatoes, both sweet and dill pickles, cheddar and grilled onions. She asked that her egg not be at all runny. I was surprised she didn't gag when she said runny. She is grown and still gets grossed out by the runny eggs or that film that warmed syrup gets on it if it cools. Her side was Mac & Cheese. Her Mac & Cheese was amazing. I thought she was going to make a scene with all that moaning and spoon licking. I had mine very well no pink, bacon, provolone, tomatoes, grilled onions, and sweet pickles. My side was a cup of chili. I asked for the bacon to be crispy. It took a little while for the food to come out. There was a steady stream of take out orders and a few tables were full. One server and two guys in the kitchen. When the food arrived I was just blown away. Everything was fresh, very hot, cooked to perfection. That burger was HUGE! The meat was the star of the show clearly but the toppings were generous and super fresh. Tomatoes sliced thin and stacked, onions grilled just until they have a little bite to them but are still slightly sweet. I had forgotten to ask for the chipotle mayo but they brought it out for me. The bacon was perfectly crisp. This was important since I have no teeth and chewy bacon isn't my best friend. That chili was meaty, had black beans, corn, tomatoes, and a slightly acidic well seasoned sauce. I was tempted to lick the bowl. There were no prices on the menu. That worried my daughter when she saw the burgers come out. She hinted that we were going to need to dine and dash but she was too full to run. When I got the bill I was floored again. All that meaty goodness came to $26.50. We were both stuffed. That is saying a lot because we can eat. Every aspect of that meal was treated with care. Service was awesome. Very high quality ingredients. Bang for buck was definitely there. I can't wait until we are in the Butler area again. Sorry we don't have any photos for you. Visited the Chop Shop for the first time tonight, and our only regret was not eating here sooner! The environment, staff, and food was absolutely fantastic. I have never left a restaurant a review before, but after our experience here I think its the least the owner of this establishment deserves. If I were a betting man, I'd say he/she is a perfectionist. All the the decor is on point, and you can tell someone has spent days on end tweaking recipes to get it just right.
