Great fresh good. Relaxed atmosphere, but nice to go for a date night. The inside is beautiful and open. There are thoughtful touches in the ladies restroom like lotion. I went to Chop House twice in the last month, once on a date, a first date and The other time alone. Both times I sat at the bar. Both times we had male bartenders. Both times they offended me or me and my date so badly that we should have left the restaurant. The first insult was when the bartender asked me and my date, a first date by the way, and we are in our Fifties. He said as he approached us for our drink order "So, do you two expect to have a big Ciallis night tonight?" My date turned to me and said "Do you know him? Does he know something about you I don't know??? I said "No. I've never met this guy before." The second time I went to CH it was even Worse than this! I walked out. If you remember drinking at the old Casey's Bar & Grille (which obviously means you didn't drink enough) then you'll be thrilled at the news that it has been replaced by an upscale, new steakhouse. And a very good one at that. Our dinner at the ChopHouse Grille was, simply, excellent from start to finish. We started with my new favorite appetizer -- fried calamari -- which was prepared better than what you'll find at most of the buttoned-up restaurants on "The Hill." And the large cut of tender prime rib that followed was flat-out perfect. And if it is possible to somehow combine s'mores with a pumpkin bread pudding and have it emerge as a stunning culinary masterpiece, then it has been achieved in Wakefield. It's one of the more unique desserts I've enjoyed in some time. Order an extra fork for your date if you must, just don't let it pass by. Casey's somehow lasted for thirty years. They finally pulled up the booze soaked carpet, kicked out the college kids, and transformed the old Casey's into a really nice looking restaurant. But unfortunately, that's about where it ended for me. Came here a few weeks ago with a party of 8, and no one was really happy with their experience. Atmosphere - it's nice, and new. Nothing bad to say here. Service - nothing to complain about here, either. Our server was nice and attentive. Menu/Food - I found the menu to be relatively small. It's typical American fare- burgers, steaks, seafood, and of course, chicken parm. I ended up getting just a burger: it was overcooked and my fries weren't hot. My brother got a (roughly) $25 pork tenderloin stuffed with apples served over mashed sweet potatoes (his wasn't hot either). He got 3 pork tenderloins, each roughly the size of a half dollar, with the smallest amount of mashed potatoes humanly possible. All other meals were similar: small portions, and nothing was hot. I went here for the pre-opening with my girlfriend, and a couple of friends. This place was incredible! We loved the newly renovated interior that gives the restaurant a very modern industrial feel. There is lots of warm wood tones and soft yellow ambient lighting. With 2 sections of bars, you can bring your friends over to one bar and watch the game, or bring your family to the other room and experience a nice, private moment. Really made me feel welcome. We were sat at a high top table that was near the bar. A football game was on on their massive flat panel TVs, but was not too loud or distracting at all. The waitress greeted us and presented us with assorted menus. Since this was a "Test", each menu had different items to allow the kitchen staff to be properly challenged, an also provide them with an idea of what they will serve in the future, as we were explained by the GM, Jamie. I was most surprised to see that they had wine on tap, which is something I'd never seen. My girlfriend tried the tap Pinot Grigio, which I tried and thought was good. I had a Brooklyn Lager (bottle), as I wasn't a huge fan of the draft choices. They had very standard Guinness, Bass, Bud Light, Sam Adams,etc. I'm a craft beer snob, so those beers didn't shock me, but I definitely enjoy a Brooklyn. For appetizers, we had fried calamari and boneless buffalo tenders. The calamari was delicious, as was the tenders. The buffs had a honey/buffalo flavor, which sets it apart from all others. I was told by the waitress that the owner of this place also owns Charlie-Os in Narragansett, so they are the same wings. Finally, for dinner I ordered the French Dip sandwich. It was a massive sandwich packed with shaved tender beef, and littered with the tastiest carmelized onions. I tried the sandwich without the Au Jus, and I was in love. Then I hit the sauce, and I nearly fell out of my seat! The fries were just as unbelievable. Just the right seasoning... So no real need for ketchup. My girlfriend ordered the Scallops, which were huge and they sat atop mounds of creamy risotto. She loved them. I also tried a bite of the Lobster panini, and I can say that the flavor was incredible. It was a lobster roll brought to a new level. I didn't try any deserts since I inhaled my sandwich, but my friends got chocolate chip bread pudding that they said was amazing. The waitresses were very pleasant and took good care of us. Mostly good experience here recently, which was my first time. The place looks great, huge improvement over the previous joint. Menu is pretty standard 'steakhouse' stuff, but the prices are what you find in a big city, not in a college town like Wakefield. $42 for a steak is a lot, and it better be great. I did like my steak but it wasn't great. The restaurant is shooting for an upscale feel and they do a decent job but there are some things that need improving. Most of our meals could've been hotter - this wasn't too bad but a steak should be served on a heated plate. Music was loud and obnoxious. They'd be better off with some tasteful jazz or blues instead of the pop lite fluff. It seemed way too immature for the type of environment and prices. I'd come back again, but would like to see some better training for the waitstaff and more attention to detail. read more

After hearing great reviews about the Chop House in Wakefield (http://chophousegrilleri.com/) we made a reservation there for Wednesday night to celebrate a special birthday. Greeted by wonderful, friendly staff the atmosphere was stunning. A restaurant in the former Casey's Bar and Grill location has been completely redone and now has a very modern classy vibe that is evident the moment you walk through the door. After looking over the dinner menu, it seemed that there were a rather limited selection of items- However, the Prix-Fixe Menu offered a wonderful variety of meal combinations that were not offered on the dinner menu. The Prix-Fixe menu offered three courses (Soup or Salad, Entree, and a Dessert) for only $19.95. A great value! All three of us ordered from the Prix-Fixe menu, which turned out to be a wonderful choice. The first course all three of us chose soup, there were two choices - Clam chowder or a Reuben soup. The waiter raved about the Reuben soup, explaining it to be similar to a french onion soup, with pieces of marble bread and covered in cheese! Normally a Reuben would not be appealing to me, however the waiter SOLD me, maybe it was when he told me it was covered in cheese? When the soups were delivered we were not disappointed- covered in cheese and grilled onions with pieces of marble bread soaking in a creamy vegetable based soup with a subtle thousand island flavor. This was by far one of the most impressive soups I have ever tasted. The waiter had every right to be raving about this soup, it was remarkable! While I did not try the Clam Chowder it appeared to be served as a typical chowder, and our guest reported it to be one of the best chowders she had tasted, which is a huge complement from a born and raised New Englander! None of us were able to finish our soups, in order to save room for the next two courses. Shortly after finishing our soups the Entrees were delivered to our table. One Country Fried Chicken, One Chipotle Shrimp, and One Pork Chop. While these things sound average they were far from that. The Country Fried Chicken was paired with mashed potatoes and mac&cheese. The chicken had a very light batter covering topped with a thin layer of gravy. The chicken itself was tender and moist, the sides were also very good- I found the Mac&Cheese to have a very light coating of cheese with a cracker crumble topping. The Chipotle Shrimp came out in a beautiful display, with skewers of shrimp covered in a white chipotle sauce and topped with haystack potatoes and laid elegantly over the top of pappardelle pasta. Sadly this picture did not turn out very well for you to get the full effect of how beautifully displayed this meal was. Lastly the pork chop came out topped with greens, tomatoes, and onions, again presented in a wonderful display. The pork chop was very tender with a thin sweet caramelized coating giving it a very distinctive taste and a mouth full of flavor. This pork chop took sweet and savory and used it to it's full potential! While the meals were delicately presented and deliciously divine no one was able to finish if they had any hope of tackling the dessert menu. While the dessert menu had many wonderful options from Chocolate Marshmallow Bread Pudding, Typical Strawberry Cheesecake, to Vanilla Bean Creme Brulee. At our table this was a unanimous decision - the Vanilla Bean Creme Brulee. According to the website these desserts are prepared by Sweet Cakes Bakery. Again they were delivered out beautifully and had more flavor than I have ever experienced in a Creme Brulee. The Vanilla Bean had a very creamy powerful flavor topped with a delicate layer of caramelized sugar.The dessert was wonderful, very rich in flavor, and an amazing finish to a wonderful meal! I truly cannot say enough good things about the Chop House - the service was amazing, from our helpful waiter to the friendly hostess and even a visit from one of the owners. This would be a wonderful place to host a large group or to celebrate a special day.The restaurant offers their main menu as well as a late night menu, from talking to the wait staff it seems that the place gets busy for their late night menu items. I visited this gem on valentines day and was a bit skeptacal since this day tends to be very busy and service can be compromised----well this was so NOT the case! Our waiter Chris was very informative with the wine selection and the menu. I chose the scallops over the pea risotto which was a great recommendation by the waiter. My date had the top sirloin cooked to perfection --medium well along with mashed potatoes and we chose another side to share--the porcini mushrooms which were amazing! The mashed potatoes were a bit on the cooler side and Chris offered to get a new side for us but it was bearable --not eliminating it's taste by no means. The dessert menu was extensive which is usually a ligation with many restaurants along with fidgeting a red velvet cake as a special which the next table was devouring. We simply could not indulge in a dessert but I cannot wait to return to this establishment to try other dishes and leave some room for dessert. First up, a beer and a cocktail and awesome crusty Italian mini loaf. Honey butter, i believe, very good! My husband ordered bourbon marinated steak with garlic mashed potatoes and delicious, well cooked asparagus. I got a starter of a fried, stuffed asparagus, ( something I've never had before or had ever heard of, but totally worth getting!..)skinned, pitted and stuffed with chicken and cheese, frozen briefly after being rolled in ( I believe the waiter said,) egg and bread crumbs. Fried quickly and PRESTO, a crunchy, creamy delicious ball of yum. I also ordered wonton tacos with greens on rhe side. Simple and also super crunchy and good. We both enjoy it on me love very much, raving all the way through the entire meal. Hoping we could fit dessert, but alas everything was way too filling. Maybe next time. The only thing I don't like about the trying to see the menu online is that they do not post a dessert menu online. We wanted to go back just to experience the desert but there is none available to see. So I regret not looking at the menu when the waiter handed it to me at least to see what they had. We did sit next to what look like A well-stocked bar with a couple of TVs. I would have liked to sit in the upper area in the Next Room which seemed to go up a small flight of stairs, but we did not make a reservation and I did not want to be a pain because I had already asked to move because the air conditioner was on my shoulders and I didn't have a sweater. My parents and I came in looking to try the place out as we were considering it for my upcoming wedding rehearsal dinner. We weren't feeling full dinners, so we ended up sitting in the bar area, ordering apps and beers. The bar area seemed nice, the decor is cool and modern, and our server was very nice. The beer list left something to be desired in this age of craft brewing -- only one real craft beer on tap, plus Sam Seasonal. I had the craft IPA that they did have and it was good, but this is a restaurant review not one for beer. We got three apps - there are about 6 or 8 total on the menu - went with the buffalo tenders, Italian sausage, and calamari. None were particularly great. The Italian sausage was really the worst. It came as 3 slices cut on the bias. They were totally black all the way around when they came to the table, otherwise carefully plated, which I found as a strange paradox. This serving was no overlooking mistake. You could see how dry the meat was -- and it tasted like somewhat spicy cardboard. I probably should have sent it back, but I always have trouble doing that in the moment. Anyhow, the calamari was alright, a bit on the greasy side, so the pieces on the bottom of the plate were soaking the grease up a bit. The seasoning was good though if you can look past the greasiness. The boneless buffalo wings (tenders) were also fine -- bottled buffalo sauce and your standard wing-shaped chicken tenders -- pretty hard to screw that up. If this had been a regular bar or pizza place (etc) I would have expected boneless wings like these but we heard great things about the Chop House! The food did not deliver. Came here last night on a whim. It was jam packed and we didn't make a reservation so we ate at the bar. Our bartender was amazing. Very attentive, funny and on the ball. My mom and I had the tenderloin steak sandwich- by far the best steak sandwich I've ever had. It was juicy filet mignon, caramelized onions and delicious goat cheese. They cooked both of our steaks perfectly. My dad ordered the french dip- he raved about- and the sauce. We ordered edamame for an appetizer and for something that usually lacks flavor, this was screaming with flavor. It was sautéed in sesame oil and sprinkled with salt. The fresh bread and cinnamon butter that came before the meals was outstanding too. All in all- we will definitely be going back. Went here for dinner last evening. They have elevated this restaurant from a college pub to fine dining. The decor is warm and modern with vintage pics of local beaches tastefully hung throughout the restaurant. The bartender was attentive and mixed a delicious hot and dirty martini. The bread with cinnamon butter was hot and delicious and the edamame appetizer was flavorful. We ordered a mouth watering perfectly cooked strip steak. I knew after dining here I would never have to leave South County again in search of a steak house. The owners were hands on greeting diners and Amanda our server was professional, knowledgable about the menu, and allowed us to enjoy a leisurely meal without hovering. Bread & butter were great, always a great indicator of what's to come. French onion soup - Cesar salad were both tasty. Soup broth was excellent, and covered in glorious melted crusty cheese. Filet , ordered MR, was spot on and had a well seasoned crust. I opted for the baked potato, soft hot and salt coated skin - delicious. My wife's prime rib was velvet, with plenty of great jus as well. Our experience ended here this time around since it was bath and bedtime for the kids. I had a very enjoyable experience trying out Chophouse Grille for the first time. Being a party of one I didn't have a wait and was seated at a high top in the bar area by the hostess who greeted me very welcomingly. My server Krista was quite attentive even for a bar area albeit a mid-week evening night. I looked over the menus and after asking a couple questions that were easily answered, I chose the Tequila and Lime steak. I ordered it Med-Rare and it came as ordered. For desert I had the tiramisu and it was very good, and rich I might add. The overall experience was quite pleasing. The place has a nice more upscale feel about it while not requiring to dress the part. Cloth napkins come standard with each place setting, but it's not a white tablecloth styled setting. Though I don't see it as a place to bring the kids as I didn't see a kids menu anywhere l, nor any kids. Price wise can be a little on the pricier side, but again, I can't comment too much based on the local market since I'm not from the area. Really nice place, not what you expect being across the street from a grocery store, the only thing this place is missing is an ocean view. Staff is great and they help each other out in making sure that every customer is satisfied and happy even if its not their table. Food is great and when your plate comes it makes you feel like your in an upscale hotel eating the finest foods in the penthouse which takes me to my only negative comment that your not in a fancy hotel or have an ocean view so I feel as if the prices could be just a little less that way I would consider going more often than I have. read more

The prime rib is literally the best i've ever had in my life..they cook the fat so perfectly, you are never left with that map of meat that you had to cut off because the fat wasn't rendered right. First off, they have complimentary valet, which is nice because the parking lot gets packed quick. We were a party of 6 that had a reservation. We were seated right away. The service was good, mixed drinks made great and their house red wine is J. Lohr which we all enjoyed. For appetizers we had the calamari (which was awesome) and shrimp cocktail. It is priced at 3.75 PER SHRIMP? I ate at Venice in Westerly the night prior to this and received 4 same size shrimp for the price of one shrimp at the Chophouse! Overpriced, but it was still very tasty. As for meals, we had bone-in ny strips, ribeye, pork tenderloin, meatloaf and the steak and lobster mac n cheese special. All meals were excellent. My mother-in-law and I ate there last night and she said, "that this place has been CHOPPED." She ordered a burger medium and came out well done. I ordered the prime rib medium and it came out done and tough to chew. We were both disappointed! There were plenty of staff, that they were tripping over each other. Long story short, the food was good, but it didn't make up for the terrible service. We went with reservation for a party of 10. 9 entrees came out of the kitchen at the same time. Guess who's brisket grilled cheese and fries was missing? It wasn't until about 25 minutes later, after the rest of the table was finished eating, that my food finally made its way to the table with not so much as an apology. Then on top of it all, the waitress happily tacked on an automatic 20% gratuity since with had more than 8 people in our party. My wife and I have visited ChopHouse Grille three times now and we cannot praise them enough. Beginning with the atmosphere, the renovations that were done are outstanding and the restaurant itself looks wonderful. Depending on your mood they have a lower dining area thats more of a formal feel and the upper dining area (equally as beautiful) is open and relaxed. You have a view of the bar/ bar area without having to be in the bar. The servers are always polite and attentive and stand close by (without hovering) which is nice if you need something. We've always felt welcomed and never rushed. We tend to eat earlier but have noticed they serve food until 12:30am which is awesome for the later crowd, or those who work late! Every time we have gone thus far, the food has been incredible. We try to get something different every time and we have not been disappointed. My favorite entree has to be the grilled mahi mahi, and my wife's is the southwest bowl with steak. They're great sized portions and from what I can tell everything is made in house. This place is fantastic. The decor is beautiful, the service was impeccable, even though the place was completely packed when we were there it wasn't overly loud, and, oh yeah, the food was amazing. This is fine dining that doesn't feel pretentious--and it's even reasonably priced. The menu isn't super vegetarian friendly, but I still managed to go away stuffed after the chopped salad and mac and cheese (side dish). The salad was huge and incredibly delicious, and one of my dining companions was completely in love with her bacon wrapped meatloaf--something for everyone. Our server was great--attentive, but not annoying, funny like a real person and quick with the drinks. Maybe I just love her because she brought me blue cheese stuffed olives for my martini (which was perfectly made), but either way, she got a good tip. It takes me about 45 minutes to drive to Chophouse from Providence, but I'm honestly planning my next visit. This is a kind of destination place that I would love to take friends and out of towners to. Only issue was that parking was a bit tight, but the chef told us they're adding valet next week. That wrinkle certainly wasn't keeping people away, however, so now the issue will be just getting a reservation. read more
