I haven't been here in quite some time. So when my buddies and I needed a place to talk about "old times" in South County, Chophouse was at the top of the list. It has a warm feel to it, first and foremost. People working were friendly, my drink, perfect. Seemed like the customers were all very comfortable dining, (always a good sign to me.. Meaning they come there often. I like that about a place) I started with the Calamari...my thoughts? Excellent! (On a strict diet, so the Calamari has been off limits) Then came our meals.. Prime Rib! (Note: I usually will get something in terms of an appetizer, but this time, I wish I hadn't. .... (Stuffed!!!) I got an absolute "gem" of a Prime Rib! I've had them from all over the state.. And this one is definately in my top 5 of favorites! The cut was a 14oz cut, which was exactly how I like it! Melted in my mouth. A small bit of fat on the cut (to me, adds flavor rather than drying out like others do?) Even my mashed potatos were killer! I could have lay back, and been comfortable... But the waitrress insisted kept suggesting the Lemon Cheesecake, done in house, by their "new patry Chef "Sarah"! So I So I did...(Good God, I wish I hadn't passed on bringing home a take out order... Definately will do the next time!!!!! read more

We stopped here for a dinner before going to fireworks on Narraganset beach so we we hoping to get in and out quickly. We got sat right away but our server told us he was working as waiter and bartender as they were very understaffed. We ordered fish and chips... horrible ! The fish had a very strong ammonia smell I could smell before taking a bite so we waited 15 minutes for our waiter to come back around to return the food to the kitchen. He took food away and told us he would return with menus so we could re-order something else. He must have forgotten us again as we waited another 15 minutes just to get a menu to re-order. Reluctantly, given our small amount of time we now had before our event, we ordered burgers as he assured us these would come right out. When we got our burgers one of them came out RAW ( cold in middle Raw ) ... We were really let down at this point paid the bill and left. They did take the burger and fish off the bill but hopefully they can work on their kitchen and service problems. read more

Haven't been to this place in some time. Arrived at about 1:20 on Sunday. Sign at hostess stand says see bartender for seating. Go to the bar, he's on the phone. A young waitress was standing nearby staring at us. We asked her if we could sit where we wanted or if someone had to seat us. She said anywhere was fine. Sat at a high top in front of the bar. When bartender got off the phone, we thought he'd bring menus over. Nope, stared at us & didn't budge. It was 10 mins before the waitress who told us to sit finally brought over menus. Mind you, it was not busy & at no time did she or the bartender ever say or make any pleasantries. They at least were wearing masks. It was another 5 mins before she came back to ask if we wanted drinks, another 10 before we got them. I ordered a drink that was supposed to be limeade, vodka, & muddled strawberries. It barely tasted like limeade (more water than lime), couldn't taste any vodka & didn't see any strawberries. Placed our food order of buffalo chicken tenders w/blue cheese sauce & a chicken panini. It took another 30 mins before we got our food from another woman in the kitchen, who was maskless. The dipping sauce was ranch instead of blue cheese. Called our waitress over to tell her. She made an excuse that it was blue cheese b/c ranch has more green in it. Told her the sauce was ranch b/c blue cheese has blue chunks, which this didn't & IT TASTED LIKE RANCH. She came back w/the exact same thing. Meanwhile, someone that seemed to be the mgr was standing at the bar watching tv while the waitress, bartender & food handler ran back & forth waiting on the other tables. The maskless "mgr" didn't seem to feel the need to help them out. Except when he was showing our waitress how to pour my husband's gin into a glass & add a bunch of ice to make it look like there's more gin than there actually is in the glass. When we finished, a young, maskless woman appears to clear our plates. If all that wasn't bad, they charge 3% for credit card pmt. So all said & done we were there 1.5 hrs w/staff that all seemed to be robots for an appetizer & a sandwich. read more

I like this restaurant, but beware: They offer "wild" Atlantic salmon on their menu. According to NOAA fisheries, "Commercial and recreational fishing for wild sea run Atlantic salmon is still prohibited in the United States. All Atlantic salmon in the public market is cultured and commercially grown." The word "wild" should be removed from the menu as it is misleading at best, and intentionally deceptive advertising at worst. There is a fishing port 10 minutes down the road - why not include locally sourced fish on the menu? This is why I don't eat seafood out. read more

Chophouse is one of the best establishments in South County. I have been going here with my boyfriend for a couple years now. Out of the countless times we have been here, we only had one terrible experience where everything was either over or under cooked, but because we knew this was not a normal experience, we returned another time and everything was fine. At the time of the bad experience, we did let our server know we were shocked and very dissatisfied with the quality of the food and she was very nice. They offered us a dessert on the house, but we declined because we are not the type to complain for freebies. We simply just wanted to make them aware and would have been devastated if we returned again and it was the same. Very good customer service on their end! My boyfriend almost always gets the chicken parm. He loves it! The size of the chicken is huge!! It also comes with a side of pasta, it could use more sauce on top but other than that it is good. I always get the salmon entree. It is simply delicious. It used to come with mashed potatoes which I really enjoyed - but they changed the menu now and it comes with a different side I don't remember. I think risotto and something else, a vegetable I believe. They raised the price on the entree which I wasn't very pleased with. When we first started coming here I would get the penne alla vodka. It is no longer available on the menu, which I think was wise because I was never that satisfied. It was tasty don't get me wrong, but lacked the flavors I normally have with penne alla vodka dishes. Calamari appetizer is pretty good. We often will get that, but depending on how hungry we are, sometimes their DELICIOUS complimentary bread and butter is enough. The butter is a whipped spread and is so sweet and dreamy. I believe it is brown sugar? Don't pass it up. When I have brought other guests they got the prime rib, a meatloaf and onion ring entree - huge entree, and chicken Marsala. And they seemed to enjoy them! I tried little bites and was pleased. For dessert, we have only tried the creme brûlée and it was very good. They also have those chocolate mint candies at the front that I will always grab on the way out if we don't get dessert. (Don't take those away) The service is usually pretty good. And the atmosphere is the best part. There is a large bar area with plenty of TVs and a nice long bar top and an area for many high tops. Perfect area to grab drinks and apps. It is light very dim, but that just adds to the feel I think they are going for. There are different areas of the restaurant to sit in, you really feel like you're at a fancy restaurant. But it is not the type of place where you need to dress extravagant for. Overall, there are so many different options on the menu. I haven't tried many, but we would love to. For the most part, everything is reasonably priced. One of the best places for late night food in South County. The service is always on point and the food is consistently delicious.

We came here for a holiday gathering and we're extremely disappointed - the swordfish was overcooked and dry, the vegetables were raw, and there was a 12" long piece of hair I pulled out of my mouth from my entree. The service was very slow and it took a really long time to get our bad food. We like to support local businesses but I don't think we'll ever come here again. We are leaving hungry and totally grossed out. And to add insult to injury the toilet won't flush-Eeeka Beeeka. And the only thing we ordered that we ate was a $16 wedge salad and they charge us an extra $10 to split it up on three different plates without informing us ahead of time that's ridiculous. This is South County not New York City. And one last thing our waiter said he's been working there for eight months and it's only the second time that someone had a big long hair in their food. read more

Baked potato coated in salt, probably not the healthiest thing in the world but DELICIOUS. it's nice having the fine dining available in an area where so few high level options exist. The bar seemed to be very blue collar - but the dining room was couples & families, make me think they're very kid/family friendly and not some snotty businessman only type of steak venue. no room for dessert, but apps & steak (with house butter) were awesome. dirty martini was on point as well read more

Chophouse is really good. My friends and I went here before a movie for starters and got some buffalo calamari, shrimp and corn fritters and asparagus fries. We huddled up to the bar and ended up sitting at a high top. The service was super friendly and we explained we had a short time before the movie and we got our order very fast. While the new restaurant is a vast improvement over Casey's much is left to be desired. Pros: shorter wait than initially told by the hostess, warm yet modern decor, courteous , informed staff, and fair prices for portion size (although less is often better quality) Cons: a short wine list ( white zin is NOT ros é to a wine lover!), very noisy (linens and other sound reduction efforts here please), blinds (who wants to look at the Wakefield mall?) dirty wine glass, shrimp in fritters were tiny and not deveined- how about chopped shrimp (and some spices)? Asparagus fries- please use smaller spears- they were tasty but stringy Everything we had could've been better seasoned- my veal chop was a beautiful piece of meat cooked to a perfect medium rare but lacked flavor- at least salt& pepper before grilling!! Seasonal offerings would be welcomed as well- most of the dishes sound great but are very heavy sounding, not exactly what I want late summer (and how about local sourcing whilst we are at it?) There is potential here for a great restaurant but so far chophouse only merits a C- in our book...we will go back in a few months to see what's changed. read more

3/2017 update: so I have gone to this restaurant only three additional time since the original post and the same meal kept getting worse and worse. The 8 oz Filet is all I have gotten and there is no consistency...but it has been tough to eat since first visit, that has been consistent. Too bad, I thought I found a local steak place I could enjoy. Ok I usually stroll into Spain of Narragansett on Friday nights and figured today I would break up the routine by heading to the Chophouse Grille. I am glad I did. There was one open seat at the bar and I found my way to it. The bartender introduced himself immediately and it got better from there. The 8 oz Filet is what I ordered and I asked for it medium. When it arrived everyone around me was fascinated by it as it was set down in front of me with ohs and ahs. Let me preface this by saying I would generally order fish when I go out, but this filet was unbelievable. It was probably cooked closer to medium rare than medium and I am glad as it was perfect. Seriously, it made me want to write this review. I was almost angry as I knew this meal was going to change my Friday night routine. I even bought a gift certificate while I was there as I wanted my sister and brother in law to enjoy this meal when they visit for a week in August....yes, 6 months from now. I see the reviews here saying to not miss out on the bread, but I admit I passed as I didn't want to be a party of one tearing through a bread plate. If you go here and get the filet, you will enjoy it.....a huge fan of fish did! See you next Friday. read more

Was looking forward to dining at Chophouse since it opened. Food was delicious but portions were small. Bar service was terrible. She seemed to judge us when I ordered a miller lite and my wife did not order a drink. Everyone was served bread but us. Bartender was pretentious. Bar felt more like a sports bar than high end. Thought we were going to Capital Grille of Narragansett but instead it was Casey's with a facelift. read more

This place is where the old Casey's used to be . I have been here a few times and every time I have had a different experience . Don't get me wrong the atmosphere is awesome. Nice large bar area with an upper class feel to it. The staff every time I have gone was super friendly and accommodating. The food is where they lose stars. During my most recent visit I ordered several shrimp cocktail. At $3.25 a piece I didn't think they should taste like they where just defrosted and left sitting in old water . WON'T be wasting my money on those again. I ordered the fish and chips . Sub par, tasted better fish from a mcfish sandwhich . Plus the tarter sauce tasted like a whole lemon was squeezed in it. 2 small pieces of fish and a handful of fries for $17.00 The menu is small to average size and the prices are on the high side. They've taken Casey's, painted it a Nautical Grey, decorated it with blown up old postcards of Narragansett and limited the menu. Toned down, with fabric napkins and set up for wine the restaurant has also been changed in that the bar does not dominate the middle of the restaurant like it used to. It is against the back wall now and the tables occupy the glassed in solarium and the dining room to the right of the door. I didn't notice if there were tables behind the foyer. The waiters and waitresses are dressed as if each is a Garçon and are very attentive. Although this seems to be a classier type of restaurant people in all casual types of dress were seated throughout. Obviously it's not the college hangout it used to be. Although there are 7 beef choices (the prime rib is offered on Wednesday,) there is also a Roasted Lamb Rack. Still Mom ordered a Caesar Salad $5.95 (Romaine Lettuce, Herb Croutons, Shaved Grana Padana, Anchovy Dressing.) And the Chicken & Penne Alla Vodka $15.95 (Chicken, Marinara Vodka Cream Sauce.) I ordered the Roasted Statler Chicken Breast $19.95 (A Chicken Breast with Wing attached, Red Bliss Mashed Potato, Roast Asparagus and Marsala wine sauce with what I think were shiitake mushrooms.) Online the menu claims that the Roasted Statler Chicken Breast has Savory Fall Bread Pudding, Sauteed Escarole, Maple Fennel Pan Jus and the special that day the waitress recited to me had it with coconut rice and some other kind of sauce that I was not interested in. Mom enjoyed the Chicken pasta dish, I thought it lacked the tang of vodka that I like it to have but the fresh basil popped and the sauce coated the penne well. I really enjoyed the dark rich marsala sauce that came with the Roasted Statler Chicken especially since the mashed potatoes were partially covered in it. The asparagus snapped but was cooked through and I enjoyed the slight crusting of salt and char. I tried Mom's Caesar salad and the cheese was delicious, a bit sweeter than the usual salty dryness of fresh parmesan and not slopped with dressing. The dishes were lovely and homey and welcome cold weather fare. Noted: when we came in and ordered our drinks (iced tea with no sweetener on the tables, and diet Coke,) a bread board with a small loaf of warm crusty bread and a whipped slightly sweetened butter came out shortly afterwards. It was a gratifying touch. As my Mother commented, "A nice place to take friends from out of town to. Not somewhere I'd frequent." n the survey section it is asked if there is a television. Updating my review for our Restaurant Week experience. I ordered a main course I really didn't like. Normally I don't send things back, particularly since my husband liked what I had ordered. But I was starving! I told the waitress we would wrap my pasta and I'd order something else (expecting to pay for everything, obviously, since we were taking my meal home). Instead they gave me my wrapped meal and let me order another entree at no extra charge. I ordered the short ribs for a replacement meal, and they were excellent. Incidentally, there was nothing really wrong with my first meal, I just didn't like the flavor. Since my original review in August, I've always enjoyed my experiences at ChopHouse, and we go there relatively often since it is nearby. read more

Not bad, but not great. Expected more steak selections based on the chop house name. We dined here for a special occasion which we noted on our reservation. Was not expecting a cake or anything, but thought they could have at least acknowledged the occasion when we were greeted. The owner or manager happened to be at the hostess desk when we arrived. He was engaged in low volume conversation with two employees at the desk. He seemed upset about something, and gave us a tepid welcome. We were seated promptly. We ordered French onion soup which looked unusual with the cheese shrunken into a small circle floating on the top of the small bowl. Looks can be deceiving as the soup was delicious. The bread was superb made better by the cinnamon butter. The Wedge Salad was average. The bleu cheese dressing was creamy when I would have preferred bleu cheese crumbles. The dressing was not distributed across the salad which required me to do some messy salad tossing. Bacon pieces were in short supply. Turning to my main course I ordered prime rib cooked medium rare. Initially I thought we had a major winner as the flavor was perfect and the prime rib was melt in your mouth good. Unfortunately once I got passed the outer portion of the meat the interior was dry and tough. Service was nothing special, but adequate. Prices were reasonable for this type of dining experience. We will probably try again when we're back in the area. The feel of the restaurant was much better than the outcome. Perhaps it was just a one-off? If we are disappointed in our main course again we probably wouldn't come back. read more

This place lets me down every time. They get 1 star for awesome burgers. But the service is TERRIBLE. I've been here several times in the last few months, always giving them another chance. The food is expensive but the service does not equal the quality of food, atmosphere, or the high price you pay for being in a south county vacation spot. I was happily surprised that they have great gluten free selections. I had the rib eye steak that was cooked perfectly. The loaded tater tots were like nachos, beans and all, which was fun. Grilled banana split was okay; the bananas were a bit too green for my liking. Service was attentive and kind. read more

The last time I went to ChopHouse was on Valentine's Day for dinner and it was phenomenal, I kept telling all my friends that it was the best meal I've had in a while. I went last night, hoping to have a similar experience, but in a little over a month that place has changed completely and not for the better. I had ordered my steak medium rare and it was served almost well done, the bacon wrapped around my asparagus wasn't completely cooked, and whoever had shucked our oysters wasn't paying attention because my boyfriend almost swallowed a huge chunk of shell. I'm not saying the place is awful but I was shocked by my meal and the menu changes (which contains food more suitable for Rhody Joe's). The service was excellent but I feel like I could have had a better steak at the Applebee's down the road... read more

We had our first dinner at the Chophouse Grille in Wakefield, Rhode Island, recently. We were pleasantly greeted as we arrived. When we go to a restaurant, we appreciate appropriate music being played in the background, which is the case at the Chophouse. From observing the Staff, they worked diligently and it appears that their hard work is resulting in a wonderful dining experience for patrons. There are several separate levels of dining areas, but the restaurant is also handicap accessible. The levels gave an uncrowded feeling, even though the restaurant was packed. Good thing we had reservations! Now, to the food: Fried Calamari was perfectly cooked, crisp yet tender and delicate with complementing ingredients. The Pan-Seared Sea Scallops were served with wonderfully flavored Risotto. The scallops were huge! Husband is fussy about his Prime Rib and fully enjoyed this one. His baked potato looked like it was from the Jolly Green Giant's garden, big and scrumptious. The bread was crusty outside, tender inside, with a delicious butter accompaniment. If you like classy wines, they're available. They also carry reasonably priced good tasting wine. I don't often order a dessert, but splurged and it was worth every bite. "Every bite" happened to be a lot, since it came in a generous portion. For those who are familiar with great dining, this place has Umami in the sense that it was all deliciously tasteful. read more
