Order here for lunch occasionally and it's usually pretty /enjoyable. Last time, I ordered their Seasonal Harvest salad which was sweet potatoes, chicken, roasted Brussels sprouts, and maple cranberry glaze. I'd definitely get it again during fall/ winter months. Truly the very model of modern New York lunch efficiency. An unassuming little entrance on 17th Street leads you to a somewhat severe, narrow little slice of salad heaven. Don't be alarmed by the line that undoubtedly stretches out the door, it moves. And fast, so be ready. Yes, the salads are expensive (usually around $8-10), but they're huge (like, sometimes unfinishable), flavorful and filling, so it seems worth it to me. But really what I love about this place is that while it may seem overwhelming, they do everything possible to make it easy for you. If you're pick and need to make your own salad, there's every ingredient known to man. If you're indecisive and can't handle the pressure of the Flatiron lunch crowd getting restless behind you (yeah, I was that guy), they have plenty of amazing pre-made options for you. So this Chop't location ain't it's finest. I guess it doesn't matter since there is always 500000000000 people waiting in line from about 11:45 AM to 1:15 PM. They are pretty prompt with Seamless and phone orders so I'll give that to them and the customer service has always been awesome, it's just the salads. They lack the freshness and care that other Chop't outlets I've been to have had. The salads are still big but, I don't know, this locale just doesn't cut it. I still love you Chop't and will hit up spots outside NYC walls but for lunchin' in NYC, I may need to stick to my deli's. read more

It's a rare salad that really knocks me on my ass with its deliciousness, and Chop't hasn't done it yet. Perhaps that's because I tend to go for the lighter options like the recent special Austin Cobb something or other that was filled with Fritos, fried chicken and beans. (I'm so glad salads are healthy.) The Mexican Goddess dressing had a nice heat, and was quite delectable, but the fried chicken was dry and tasteless. As it's close to my office, I'll be back at Chop't. But it's more because of convenience than any sort of particular great love for the joint. If you do plan to hit it up, I would order online. Lunch time should not be a grinding chore, nor should one go near bankrupt. In craving for a healthy lunch that is reasonable price, non-greasy, less fat, and low cholesterol all I desired was a Mesclun salad. At first sight in my bowl the unfortunate patina of browning in the lettuce, aka not fresh. Brown lettuce is a clear indication that it was NOT fresh. They do not carry pasta in any shape or form as a topping ergo I opt for grilled shrimp for an additional $3.99 and blue cheese at $.99. It totals an utter despair (with Uncle Sam's plaguing taxes) $13.03 which my virtual profound lack of cash for the end of the week depletes my food allowance. After patrons choose their topping and dressing it all gets chopped violently on a white cutting board (not the usual norm of tossing or mixing) by a round cleaver blade that splatters everywhere. Flat whole wheat pita bread is the only choice of complimentary bread which was entirely too chewy. But... I wanted tortilla chips. Decorum is plastered by the Green Hornet with a bright neon green theme assuming eco-friendly "green power" for veggies. Tables bear whole black peppercorns and coarse sea salt as provided condiments. Service was robotic-ally efficient in a orderly fashion but not entirely customer service friendly. I eat salads so regularly nowadays I've begun looking for new joints to try salads in. I had heard of Chop't before, but never got to try it until tonight. I entered and found a much larger restaurant than I expected considering the limited real estate space in this area. The ceilings are high, seating area comfortable and the decor is light and friendly. The salad bar is most impressive, with the ingredients laid out in such a way that your eyes really get to eat first. I was quite heartened by this first impression. So I go up to the guys who make the salads to order and wow, I mean...I've seen apathy from waitresses who are bored or unhappy (or both) before. I've met waiters in Chinatown who practically fell asleep as I gave them my order. But these guys were just...not interested. I had to repeat my order a couple times because they were just totally not listening. Once they finally got into it, it was kind of fun watching them put together the salad and chop it up on the chopping board, mixing the ingredients together very well. The salad itself was fantastic. I had the beet and goat cheese salad. The balsamic vinaigrette had a unique taste. It had more bite than I expected and I wasn't overwhelmed by sweetness in any way. The greens were fresh and all the ingredients worked together well. I dug the way apples were basically substitutes for croutons. Yes, I loves me some croutons, but I'm trying to lose weight so this was a welcome switch. The salad includes a wrap cut into four portions. That wasn't so hot both literally and figuratively, but I didn't go there for a wrap so it wasn't a huge deal. I honestly would give this place higher marks if the service had been a bit more snappy and friendly. The best steak wrap in town! It's expensive for a wrap, but I just love how their soft wheat tortilla tastes! The tortilla is slightly sweeter than other brands and rich in carb, but it makes the wrap tastier.... I think this is the most delicious tortilla skin! There was actually a lot of seating inside which was even being used. The location itself is clean and close to Union Square Park which I love. The food itself to me if ALWAYS on point. I love the variety of toppings and even healthier dressings! I tend to go for the Chicken Kebab Cobb which I love. 3.5 New York seemed to have an obsession with chopped salads when I went last summer. So I finally decided to give it a try because a salad cut into tiny pieces so you get dressing and your toppings all in a bite size piece did sound like a superior way to eat salad. It was pretty good, but unfortunately mine had wayyyy too much salad dressing, so it kind of soaked through my leafy greens and was kind of unappealing after awhile. All in all it wasn't bad, but not being a big salad person I wish they had a smaller size so I wouldn't have to pay over $10 for a big salad that I won't finish. read more

Pros - locally sourced produce, always fresh, always clean, friendly staff Cons - lines during lunch get insane, their price increases have got a bit out of control. We paid $27 for two salads and two bottles of water. Quantity of ingredients 100% depends on who makes your salad, it could end up the best salad you've ever had or mostly lettuce. Have ordered several times through the app and the order has been wrong on multiple occasions. One time fine but more than once? It shouldn't be hard to follow basic instructions. This was my first time eating at Chopt. The custom salad concept is nothing new and Chopt is insanely popular, so I pretty much knew what to expect, but would have appreciated some tips from the salad tossing staff. I was impressed with the freshness of the veggies and really liked the texture of the finely chopped kale and broccoli. The portion size was massive and it took me so long to eat (even though it's diced, kale is not easy to chew!). Unless you're really hungry, a salad at Chopt is probably too much for one meal. Two words: Mexican Caesar. I moved to NJ briefly and let me tell you, I'm so glad to say that it was brief. I missed beloved spots like Chop't being so easy to get to and I'm a stickler for things exactly how I like them and I like the Mexican Caesar salad in all its creamy, cheesy, corn-y glory. Always opt out for jalapenos because I tend to prefer smokey, creamy spice. Anywho, I was craving this salad like mad and upon moving back to Brooklyn and working briefly in Union square, you best believe I had this for lunch 4 out of 5 days of the week. Love their rewards app, and even though $100 for a measly $10 credit seems like a lot, it racks up fast if you're nearby and really love any of their particular salads. Lines build up around lunchtime during the week but move very quickly. Ordering in advance via their app is great, you skip the line leaving everyone on their 30-60 min break waiting to burn with jealousy. My only qualm with ordering in advance is that when I ask for extra dressing on the special instructions, 9 times out of 10 it's always waaaaay under dressed. Even seems like less than a safe assumption of what "extra" means. I've never ever gotten that little dressing when I ordered in person. How dare you deprive me of my one true love! read more

Once there, however, it's a breezy flow to grab your prepaid greens and head back out the door. The ambiance is corporate cattle so I've never actually eaten in restaurant. As far as salads go, they've got about a billion and one different mixes, ingredients and options -- certainly something for everyone. I'm a regular on the Santa Fe Salad and their Cobb. All the dressings are homemade and they make light versions that taste much more fatty than they actually are! Plus, they are all sugar free for those who are into that. Good variety of ingredients and dressings. Do try their warm salads and seasonal ones, they will surprise you! Since moving to New York I've found that this city is obsessed with chopped salads and I couldn't be happier about it. Something about those tiny pieces make a salad just so much tastier! It's for that reason I visit Chop't. If they didn't do chopped salads, I probably would skip it because the lettuce isn't always as fresh as it should be, and they're a bit skimpy on the ingredients. Last time I was there I paid extra to add Mexican street corn to my salad and I think I saw like 5 kernels in there. Another negative is that there's always a line out the door during lunch hours, but to their credit they make it move very quickly! I am a fan of the Mexican Caesar salad - I'm not the only one because everyone in line with me always seems to be ordering it as well. Make sure you tell them you want Mexican Caesar dressing - it's not assumed that because you got the Mexican Caesar salad that you'll get the complementary dressing, and once or twice I got their regular caesar dressing, which really isn't as good at all.
