Stopped here on a trip with my kids and it wasn't that great. The clam chowder needed some help - chewy clams and more seasoning or flavor. My daughter had the fish and chips and it wasn't that great but she liked the garlic bread. Her fiance had the fried scallops and said they were okay. I had the clams which were in thick garlic butter (could have used some wine with it) and the garlic bread was soaked in so much butter it was soggy. My son's was probably the best...the seafood pasta -- had lots of large halibut chunks, prawns, bay scallops and bay shrimp, loads of cheese and cream sauce. It was so rich, they could easily serve half a portion and knock down the $24 price. The waitress was obviously stressed because I think she was the only one there (they had a sign in the window for cooks, servers and table bussers), she brought out two chowders instead of salads and the bus boy was slamming and breaking dishes when he cleaned up. For what we got, it was expensive....ate at Rogue Public House along the dock in Newport the day before and for the same total bill cost, the food was far better than Chowder Bowl. We were super unimpressed by the service. Waited 15 minutes to get drink orders in - while there were about 4 other groups in the restaurant. Waitresses seemed chatty and uninterested in serving. After we all ordered (simply, bowls of chowder!) we waited for over a half an hour. We then flagged a food runner down and she seemed confused but willing to help us with our goal of getting soup. This place was welcoming and friendly. My group and I walked in and were welcomed immediately. It felt good to know that your existence does matter. I ordered the Oyster Stew and it was delicious. I love the rich, buttery, and seafood taste. The oysters tasted so fresh as if they just came out of the sea. Everyone else in my group seemed to really enjoy their food. Stopped here for Clam Chowder while in Depoe Bay for whale watching. I shared a couple of fish and chips entrees with family and got the chowder as a side. You have the choice of fries and a cup of chowder or salad with the fish and chips entrees. The chowder was mediocre and the fried fish was ok considering the double digit price tag. The service was fast and efficient - important considering their location on the main Hwy 101 touristy strip. read more

Used to be a good family restaurant but now it is more like a dive bar with poor service on top of food that is not anything like it used to be. Trying to talk to my wife at 2 pm as the drunks at the bar are yelling at the football game was great atmosphere if that is what you look for in a family restaurant. The waitress was nice enough to offer me a refill on my coffee but after 15 minutes I just asked for the check so we could get the hell out of there. Walking along the shops in downtown Depoe Bay and spotted this resto. The husband and I shared a bowl (to go) and were both satisfied. It hit the spot! A few days later we went back and got the pre made ones where u add milk to enjoy at home. It didn't quite have the same taste for me. It lacked the fresh taste and tasted a bit bland for me. I am new to sea food and experienced my first clam chowder and oyster shooters here. It was AMAZING! My husband and son were also immediately obsessed. We had more down the coast on our way home to CA and nothing even came close! The best chowder EVER! My husband is a lifelong seafood lover and we are already joking about taking the 12 hour drive to come back here! It's a small place with only one server working before closing. Stopped in on Memorial Day (05/31/16) and got the following: Chowder Clam Strips Onion rings The chowder I wasn't crazy about. For a place called the Chowder Bowl, the chowder was very floury and kind of blah in seasoning. I've had better elsewhere. However, the clam strips and onion rings were pretty good! Clam strips had nice chunks of clam in them, with a non-greasy breading. The onion rings were large rings with a crunchy panko breading. If your hankering for clam strips and onion rings, I recommend it. If it's chowder you looking for, you'll need to look elsewhere. read more

I really hate giving bad reviews, but this place was awful. We came in and the place was empty. The waiter told us they had planned to close early, which you should never tell anyone. I ordered a simple bacon burger and fries. This thing costs $13! I kid you not, it was a bun from a 99 cent pack of buns with a preformed patty that tasted frozen. After waiting for an hour for our food, it finally arrived. The order was messed up not once, not twice, not three times but more. The drinks were wrong, we had ordered 2 cups of chowder and 2 bowls of chowder. He came back with 5 cups of chowder and forgot the bowl. We ordered 2 fish and chips plates which you have an option of halibut or cod, we ordered the cod but was given the halibut. Which I might add all of the foods recipes were disgusting. My biggest issue, though, is that the server wore her mask under her nose the whole time! News flash, masks don't work if you don't cover your face. The chowder still sucks there. It has too much flower in it and doesn't taste like clam chowder at all. Fish and chips were soggy the chicken strips were tuff. We ate most of the food and left. We didn't see our waitress again until I paid the bill. And the look on her face when I didn't leave a tip was priceless. Even if the food is crappy I would still tip if I got good service or in the case any service other then bringing out my food. (So I used the tip money to buy a hat. Nice hats by the way.) I was really hoping for a tasty and hearty bowl of chowder, but my chowder only had a few clams and hardly anything else. The chowder was kind of bland, but there was a handy bottle of Tabasco to help it. The jumbo clam strips don't look jumbo to me and ended up with a lot of breading. This is a very cute restaurant! My boyfriend and I were stopping by depoe bay to get some lunch and decided to try chowder bowl and I'm glad we did! It was clean, friendly and the decor was very cute. I got the cheddar tuna melt and it was delicious! My boyfriend got the pulled BBQ salmon sandwich and that was the best thing I have had in a long time. I think I have a new favorite meal at the coast! Decided to go into the Chowder Bowl after wandering through the shops in Depoe Bay with the family on Spring Break. What a mistake! We were not greeted as we came inside the restaurant and there were few seated inside the place. We decided to grab a bigger table, since there were 7 of us and waited for the waitress to come take our order. My aunt immediately inquired about recommendations from the waitress, but her question was answered with an exhausted "I don't know. Everything is good," and an extremely rude, "I have to go home and figure out what to cook my family for dinner. Any suggestions?" We tried to laugh it off, but I couldn't believe the horrible service. She forgot to bring our silverware, seemed bothered whenever we asked for anything, and didn't once ask if she could offer us anything else. A couple seated in a booth by the window, upon arriving, asked if the waitress (same one) could clean their table since it was sticky. Instead of cleaning the table, she proceeded to tell the customers that she had "tried everything" on that table and it just wouldn't get clean. They looked unhappy, to say the least, and I'm surprised that they didn't just stand up and leave. As for the food, I ordered a Smokehouse Burger, which was decent and filling, but not the best. The chili was definitely not homemade, and the rest of my family's orders didn't look much better, especially for the price. Greasy, fried, cheap-looking (yet overpriced) fare, with a grumpy couldn't-be-bothered-to-serve-you waitress. What made it worse was that it was also my mom's birthday, and the lunch was accompanied by probably the worst service we've ever had. Ruined the entire experience. Stay away from Chowder Bowl unless you want mediocre food and terrible service. We will not be eating here again. read more

This was the worst lunch I have had in a long time. I am a huge chowder fan and the chowder was absolutely terrible. Tasted like water and flour. I ordered a shrimp melt which was a huge let down. It was literally bread, sliced (probably fake) cheese and some shrimp. Absolutely no sauce of any kind. I have never had a shrimp melt without some kind of sauce. I highly suggest driving to Newport and eating at Chowder Bowl there as they have the best chowder I have ever had. I will never be going back to this establishment. read more

This is not the same Chowder Bowl as the one in Newport. If you are use to that one, be prepared. I hate to critique the food or the restaurant, when I was blown away because I thought it was the same restaurant as the one with the same name in Newport.
