Great food and service! Portions are generous and they will get the eggs just the way you want them!

First time at Chris's and I would have to say it was just the usual average breakfast food. I got Bacon and Eggs with pancakes and hashbrowns. Hashbrowns and Eggs didn't have seasoning and the pancakes were just regular buttermilk pancakes. The thick cut bacon however was really delicious and properly cooked. Other than the bacon, nothing struck me as unique or extremely tasty about the breakfast I ordered. My waiter Norman was nice and was attentive while dealing with many tables. Will probably try again for lunch to see the difference because there are alot of other brunch locations I would have on my list to try before coming back. One minor turn off of the establishment is that when I walked in there was no hostess and I thought it was just a seat yourself type of place but there was no sign so I patiently waited until I was acknowledged. A woman finally greeted me and grabbed menus to seat me. She did an unusual pause and stayed there with her back turned punching in something. I thought it was to notate that a party of two was being seated but as she turned around, she was actually texting someone on her phone. After she finished texting, I was seated. This was a dang good breakfast. Everyone here seemed to know each other and there was definitely a usual crowd, and they assured us we made a good decision. They were totally right. I brought my parents in for breakfast on a Saturday morning. There was of course a wait, but the complimentary coffee and cookies in the waiting area helped take the edge off. They seemed to turn tables over pretty quickly, as we were seated within a reasonable amount of time. After being seated, I decided on coffee and the Sicilian omelette with pancakes and hash towns, with my parents opting for the steak and eggs and the sunrise sampler. The coffee was a little strong, but with the demographic that seemed most prominent in the restaurant, it was expected. It was always fresh and my cup was never empty. My omelette was incredible, and probably my favorite omelette to date. The sausage was full of flavor, the veggies were cooked properly, and the marinara and provel kicked it over the top for me. Hash browns and pancakes were pretty good (not the biggest pancake fan to begin with, but they were super fluffy). While the food was good, the service was fantastic. We were well tended to from the minute we walked in and everything was perfect. My parents continue to rave about the meal we had here and I see myself coming back here soon! read more

Hubby & I went here for breakfast today because we heard their food was "the bomb" and it was very DELICIOUS!! I had the veggie omelette with bacon and cheese added with fresh fruit and pancakes with coffee; he had the western omelette with sausage added, hash brown and sour dough bread and coffee. Our bill was only $33 and we thoroughly enjoyed our food. Our server was the sweetest young lady and even when we were leaving two servers wished us a good day!! Tried to get a table for 6 adults and 1 child today. Called for a reservation at 8:10a, stood outside in the sun until 9:47a and never got called for a table. We reminded them twice. There were other parties larger than ours that got seated, served, paid and left. There were tables outside for parties of 2 that were empty, while tables for 4 had only 2 people seated at them. Too bad for you, we are good tippers and went to Carnivore instead. Got seated immediately, had a wonderful server (who received a 40% tip), and excellent food. read more

I was so excited to try this place. The service was ok. I never got the name of my server, she just asked if we were ready to order. The burrito was very average. The huge onions were raw. This is a really popular place, and I think it's a solid option in the area. I kind of think a pancake is a pancake is a pancake...and the ones there are real good. There is usually a pretty good wait on a weekend at breakfast or brunch times, and today was no exception, but there were chocolate chip cookies and coffee in the waiting area which was quite nice. Our over-medium eggs were under cooked, but they made us some fresh ones when we complained so they made up for it. It is clean inside but doesn't seem to have a lot of personality. I love to walk to Chris' on lazy weekends for some yummy pancakes. I usually get the Johnny Rabbit, which is two pancakes, two eggs, and two pieces of bacon or sausage for under 7 bucks. The eggs seem like they're more butter than eggs, and I always regret it when I forget to ask them to not use any. Other than that, service is wonderfully friendly and helpful, coffee isn't bad, and while you're waiting for a table on Saturday mornings, they have a little table with free coffee and freshly-baked pecan cookies! This place is great but inconsistent. My family dined here two mornings in the same week this summer since the AirBnB we were staying at was in a nearby neighborhood. First day we came was on the weekend, and the service was stellar. Not only did we have our waitress helping us, but there were several other staff members who their main job was to be sure every table was kept clean and drinks refilled. It was really nice. Food was delicious. I had the Reuben Eggs and they were soooo good! Next day we came was on a weekday morning, and it was a totally different experience. The staff was a minimum, and our waitress had a very large area to take care of which was basically 1/2 the restaurant. And although she informed me she had worked there for around a decade so that I would know I was in good hands, it was a subpar experience from our weekend visit. We ordered eggs and pancakes and it took a really long time for our food to come. When our food was brought out to us, it was obvious it had been sitting for a while. So that was disappointing, especially because when I ordered I explained that we were on limited time, and that my young children were quite hungry. I had tried to order the simplest and fastest to make items. Then when we requested to go boxes because we ran out of time to stay and eat, the to go boxes we were brought were dirty! Inside of the boxes had food residues of sauce and grease. So I requested new to go boxes, showing the issue, and the new boxes that came out were also soiled and waitress was unconcerned about it. So we left our food, which was also disappointing. My suggestion is come on the weekend. It's a hopping place on the weekend and the food and service are stellar. If you want anything more than a coffee during a weekday visit, go elsewhere. read more

I came here with a big group from work (maybe 12?) on a Monday morning. It had your basic diner feel and many old photos of St. Louis. We sat in the back room and had an awesome server; she was very efficient and handled the large group well. I ordered the Mediterranean omelette and added on artichokes and mushrooms. It was a nice size and I had a satisfying brunch as well as lunch the next day. The omelette comes with hash browns and toast or pancakes. It was cool to see the server interact with some regulars who came in a little later on in the morning. You could tell they're familiar with the regulars and friendly. The price is just right for such a large and filling breakfast. If I was looking for a basic breakfast/brunch place, I might consider coming here again, especially if it's Monday and other restaurants are closed. read more

If you're looking for a genuine diner, Chris' is it! The first thing that really struck us when walking into Chris' was the true reflection of the community. There was an amazing mix of culture and ethnicities all having breakfast together. It was also fun to get to interact more with a few Saint Louis police officers having breakfast as well. It was a good way for my kids to interact with police. Service was quick and friendly and everyone enjoyed their food. And of course, the pancakes were really great. Chris' Pankcake & Dining is an old school diner located on an island of cross streets near Watson Road and Southwest Avenue. I met my neighbors for brunch and was pleased with the food and service. There was a wait for our table, but there was an urn of coffee and a plate of cookies for guests to eat while waiting. I thought this was a nice touch. I had the Chris' breakfast sandwich. It is a fried egg sandwich on a croissant with American cheese and bacon. It was served with coffee and hash browns. My daughter had the kids French toast with scrambled eggs and bacon. It was truly an adult size portion, which was a great value. We had a great meal with fun company. I'm sure we'll visit again! read more

Simply put...this place is DELICIOUS!! Went here for breakfast when visiting STL. Hubby and I ordered the omelet that was stuffed with hash browns, sausage, white gravy and cheese and came with a side of pancakes. Kiddo got the Belgium waffle plate with eggs & sausage. HUGE!! The omelet was stuffed full and much bigger than I thought would be. I'm not really a pancake person but these were big and fluffy!! Son's eggs were cooked perfectly and that waffle was huge as well...the edges were a little over cooked, but it didn't stop him from chowing down. The portions are perfect for the prices. We left stuffed and satisfied!! I literally stayed stuffed all day and didn't eat another meal!! This place is a good neighborhood breakfast spot. Service is usually pretty good. This trip was a little less. The food is solid, quality breakfast food and I really like that they have bloody marys and Mimosas. Not common at the diner type places around here. I got the country fried steak for breakfast. I came to Chris' on Labor Day for an afternoon breakfast with a friend. We were originally wanting to go to Southwest Diner but it was closed. This was relatively close option so we decided to check it out! There was about a 30 minute wait at 12:00 but that was most likely cause it was a holiday. Although, I'm sure it's that packed on the weekends! I went with the Salsiccia which is "2 Italian sausage links served with 2 eggs any style, hash browns and toast or pancakes." The sausage was amazing. Seriously. I'm usually a bacon over sausage kinda guy but not this time. It tasted fresh and was clearly some high-quality meat. Not that weird breakfast sausage you get that is oddly crunchy from Dennys. The eggs and has browns were great as well. I loveddd the pancakes. The older I get the more I like pancakes. I think I may have found a correlation between love of pancakes and age. Inform the scientists! Chris' is a great option if you live in the area or have a hankering for some diner food! read more

Chris' does a GREAT breakfast. The food is fresh, not greasy. They don't have a variety of pancakes, but they do the basics well and they are very consistent. There's something about their eggs (love 'em), and they have a variety of options available to those with restricted diets (i.e. vegetarian, diabetic, low cholesterol/fat). I'm not particularly thrilled about Chris' as a dinner hangout. It's basic family steak house fare and slightly overpriced, unless you want a great place to treat your grandparents to a meal they'll enjoy ( and catch the early-bird specials). As a whole, this privately owned (Bartolino's) establishment cannot be compared to a chain restaurant as some folks choose to do. There is definitely a difference in the food, atmosphere and management. The interior was updated a few years back, but still has a dated feel. Chris' is popular with families and folks of all ages. read more

We have been coming here for years for breakfast. They serve mostly basic breakfast but it is very good and not small portions. My absolute favorite is the Country Omelet. An omelet covered with gravy and cheese with the hash browns are inside of the omelet. If it's your first time there...tou have to at least try the pancakes...they come with an omelet. The pancakes are at least to me some of the best in St. Louis. My other go to is the breakfast quesadilla. Egg whites cheese and if you want, chicken. Great with sour cream and Cholula. read more

Just went here with my mom yesterday. Been once before, and it was lovely then and now also. Called ahead since I know it gets crazy here on Sundays. Well, when I got there, there was space in the lot, so I knew it wasn't too busy. Got inside, table was ready, mom was not there. Well, they seated me right by the door so I could see her when she arrived. I love their coffee- its smooth and strong. The service is always lovely- our waitress was really sweet. I got the Buttermilk Pancakes Plate. Mom got the English muffin breakfast, it's a seasonal special - Eggs sunny side up on top of English muffins, hash browns and maybe meat of some sort. Mom said it was awesome. The English muffins were well buttered and browned really nicely. - I hate English muffins, they always look so dry, but I was dying to try those! We both eat small, and we both had plenty to go. And, knowing that my mom likes her eggs scrambled, I suggested she ask them to cook them a little longer. Told the waitress, no problem, she clarified if mom wanted them scrambled, or sunny side up, but yolk cooked so it wasn't runny. Scrambled was what she wanted, and scrambled they were when they arrived. Pancakes awesome as always. Fluffy, but not doughy or chewy and crispy on the bottom. Delicious! The eggs were great and sausage was good as well. Well done again Chris'! We were visiting from Indianapolis and trying so hard to find a brunch place that was open for inside dining. Finally at around 9:30 on Saturday morning we stumbled upon Chris'. We are so glad we did. We were quoted a 20 minute wait but it was more of 30. It was totally worth it. I've never had eggs Benedict before but there was something about the Southwest that sounded amazing. And it was! I didn't have time to take a picture of the food because I was too busy eating. I'll go into more detail below, but the highlights are: extremely delicious, great options, great portions, and great pricing. Food: I got the Country Omelet. It was the right amount of flavor and toppings and more than enough food. It also came with pancakes. More food! And the pancakes were great too. Service: The food came out just as fast as we ordered it. It was hot and just as we ordered. The waiters were nice but not overly conversational (which I personally like) and we were checked on by several waiters passing by. Atmosphere: The place is set up like a diner, the tables and the place were clean. The layout is nice, not crowded, good for groups. A good place if you wanna chat and hear yourself speak.
