Let's start off with Christina's work is amazing. She is passionate about her work and pays attention to detail. Before I found Christina I had been having my eyebrows done by a celebrity eyebrow artist in Beverly Hills. He was hard to get an appointment with, it was a long drive, and I felt like my eyebrows were getting thinner every time I went. Christina has been doing my eyebrows for a little over a year now. The first time I met her she measured my eyebrows and agreed with me that they had been over waxed and tweezed. They were short and thin. My brows now are longer and thicker than they have ever been. I definitely will not be going to someone else. I live in the Santa Clarita and drive to Pasadena every 3-4 week to get my brows done (trust me she's worth the drive). Booking an appointment is easy just call or text. I have found for me it's easier to text because I can refer back to it to remind me what date and time my appointments are and I'm sure it's easier for her due to being busy with clients. I first met Christina Medrano at BrauHaus Salon in Pasadena. A few months ago I tried to book an appointment only to learn that she was no longer employed there. I tried three other gals, but every time I would leave with burning, red eyes. Christina is the ONLY esthetician that has given consistently great results. I am not the typical eyebrow client: I am fanatical about my brows, and I've been like that since I was old enough to do something about my brows. I'm a little obsessive about brows, to the point where I sometimes subconsciously judge people based on their eyebrows (thin eyebrows, out of date, thick, unruly eyebrows-a mess, well managed eyebrows-my kind of people.) Eyebrows are one place I don't skimp: I can have a $15 trim on my hair, but i'll be damned if I'll take my brows to some chop shop. The reason I'm fanatical about brows is because brows can make or break your look. Thin eyebrows make noses look big, eyes look tired and draw attention to wrinkles. Eyebrows that are too thick hide your eyes and give the illusion of a heavy, neanderthal forehead and sunken cheekbones. Eyebrows with the wrong arch create chaos on your face because they're not symmetrical. And, most importantly, eyebrows that don't match the face & features just make you look unattractive. Having said this, I have to state that by all accounts, Christina is simply the best. She is not your average eyebrow stylist, who just creates one square eyebrow & one arched eyebrow and calls it a day. First of all, she's a perfectionist. She's precise (she measures the angles of your cheekbones to your arch to your eye. who does that!??) She takes her time and she evaluates the scale of eyebrow to face/feature (see? perfectionist.) she has been doing my brows for years, and I'm pretty sure if she ever moved away or left the state I wouldn't think twice about monthly flights just to get my brows taken care of by the best. That's how good she is. Christina is truly an artist and a mathematician. Maybe she's a brow architect? Incidentally, she did my makeup once and she did it so well I spent all day thinking I was naturally beautiful, and then I took off my makeup and realized it certainly wasn't me, it was the magic of Christina's talent. In my first apppointment, Christina was very attentive and careful with the lash application. She made sure to explain her process and gave me a look I could maintain for a long time without damaging my natural lashes. I have seen Christina now about a year in every two to three months. The lash and brow tint makes a huge difference in my light eyes, yet it is natural. No mascara needed for a while. The color lasts well over a month and then gradually fades but I feel that there is no need for refreshment more often than I go, unless there is an event (saves money). Christina is no nonsense, efficient and on-schedule. My eyes never tingle or burn and I can put contacts on right after without extensive rinsing. Christina is amazing! I've been wearing lashes for about 3 years, but had become less satisfied with the place I had been going. I found Christina via Yelp and booked a full set of new lashes, and brow shaping. She removed my old lashes, which she explained were too long, which is why they were barely lasting 2 weeks. The new lashes she put on are gorgeous and I'm so happy with the experience. She also did a wonderful job with my brows, and gave me a home care eyelash kit and instructions. I don't ever write reviews on Yelp but feel I need to with this situation. Christina was highly recommended by a friend for my upcoming wedding. She was very hard to get ahold of at first but trusted my friend and really wanted to use her for my wedding. We finally set a date for the "preview" session. I went in on rainy Sunday morning (which was about 5 weeks before my wedding) and paid $150 for the preview. I LOVED what she did and told her I would book for the wedding date. It was several days before she sent me the contract and when she did she said the I needed to sign that day that "she had 2 other inquires for that day." With the fear of not being able to have her on my wedding day I signed the contract and sent it back to her that day (even though she had the wrong times we had discussed for the big day). She right away said she would send Paypal link to pay. I received nothing that day or the next. I sent an email to her to talk about times and about sending the paypal link. no response. waited a few more days and sent another email. she finally responded and said that an emergency came up and that she was clearing her calendar and I should find someone else. I felt bad that an emergency came up but remembered that I paid her $150 to do my wedding preview. I understand if I did the preview and I DID NOT want to book with her that that expense was owed to her. But to take my money and not offer to pay it back or at least offer to recommend someone else to do it was not ok. SHE CANCELED ON ME. This was now 3 weeks before my wedding!!!! when I mentioned to her about how unethical it was to keep my money for a preview and then CANCEL on me for my big day all she could respond with was "that is why the trial and day of makeup are separate services and was a service fully rendered." NOT IF SHE IS NOT GOING TO DO MY WEDDING MAKEUP. why would I pay $150 to do my makeup on a rainy Sunday for no reason. I don't care how good her services are her ethics and communications suck and that is why I am giving 1 star. Not sure how she can in good faith keep my money. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND HER AT ALL. I wonder how many other "previews" she's done and collected $150 only to not book them for their wedding. read more
