If I could give this place a zero, I would. Their service is not good at all, everyone was so clueless! The ambiance is alright considering it's in a food court at UCR. I simply ordered one taco. Already, $5.00 for a singular taco is outrageous! But I had a coupon for a free taco. When I presented the coupon, I still had to pay an extra dollar because carne asada is considered a "luxury" meat. That is ridiculous! Simple cow meat should not be luxurious. And the food was mediocre at best. I suppose, if you like basic not even Mexican food, you'll like this. But it's just not for me. Contrary to the other reviews on here, I've had Chronic Tacos on campus several times and have never had an issue. It's not anything super amazing but gets the job done at an okay price! Just ordered a bowl there. I watched the worker scoop out spoonfuls of black bean juice and drown the rice in it all because she didn't want to open another container. She proceeded to do the exact same thing with the pico de gallo after I asked her for a fresh batch because she was literally only able to scoop two tomatoes in her spoon. Thanks for the soup. Good customer service!! I love how attentive all the employees are and they are constantly reassuring they're making your order correctly.

I always enjoy getting their bowls for lunch. My favorite is the chicken bowl with Spanish rice and to top it off, I get all the side dishes. It's definitely one of my favorite places to go to whenever I'm craving Mexican food, but the lines are always long! There are only two workers, or if you're lucky enough, 3. Not fast enough, doesn't have any urgency, and it takes at least half an hour to get my bowl. Compared to other restaurants, they are the slowest ones. Not only that but sometimes they don't give out a lot of toppings either, it's only a tiny portion. It's disappointing to me knowing that the work efficiency hasn't changed and continues to be as slow. Honestly, disappointing. read more

Wanna-be Chipotle with bad customer service. My first time here & will be my last. I asked for light red sauce& they put WAY too much! I tried eating it anyways, but my mouth was on fire! As an often very hungry and cheap person, I am constantly finding ways to avoid spending too much money on food. Although the sentence I typed earlier is probably the worst thing you could say on a first date, it is a life motto that I strive to live by. However, this philosophy can only be followed to an extent. My heart and conscience can only handle so many unhealthy cheap meals. This is why, time to time, I spoil myself with chronic tacos. The immense amount of vegetation in their bowls, combined with a normal helping of protein, allows for a well balanced meal. My personal favorite is the carne asada bowl. Although it's a little similar to Chipotle's steak bowl, it's actually a little better than the steak bowl. The carne asada is well marinated in Chronic's signature sauce, and it's a little heavy to combat the acidity of the raw onions and lettuce. If you're on ucr's campus, and don't mind spending a little more, chronic taco is not bad of an option. read more

Chronic Tacos may not be the most consistent place and the meat can be a tad overcooked at times, but to this day I've yet to have a habit changing experience from them. For context, I have tried not nearly their whole menu. I order a small burrito with toppings of choice and despite little chicken being put (especially since it IS a SMALL burrito and they use, in my opinion, ridiculously sized serving tools) in the burrito, it is VERY flavorful and a prominent feature of the burrito. The price is right at just under 6 bucks and it is a quite filling meal. The chips are a good addition to add if you want extra and the salsas are good, although I wish more spicy for a mexican "tapas" food place. Mexican rice is OKAY, not sure on the white as I've never tried. I like this place. I think theres room for improvement in quality control and consistency and maybe add something new to mix things up like nacho cheese or a different salsa. Give it a try! read more

Chronic tacos replaced a place called Habaneros in the Highlander Union Building at UCR. Habaneros was a well loved if not well known Chipotle-esque restaurant that had many options for build-your-own meals, including bowls, tacos, and burritos. Chronic tacos is the same thing - just a step up. I ordered the veggie burrito. There is a small and a large size - each with a different pricing option. My buddy and I came here for lunch on Monday despite seeing the poor reviews and were blown away at how good the food was. I had the vegan beyond meat bowl with guac and fajitas. That day the service was great and all was right in the world. We brought menus to share with our office staff and encouraged everyone to try it out. So this morning our office decided we would like to have them for lunch. We called at 8 am to see what our options might be for 20 people. The first lady to answer said we need at least 24 hours for catering and could not give us pricing. When asked if there were any options to get lunch for 20 picked up she said she needed to get the manager. So the manager picks up the line and I ask the same question. He restates the fact that we need 24 hours for catering. I let him know we would be fine ordering a bunch of bowls. When asked if we could get pricing for the catering he says he can't help me because they are not open yet. The MANAGER was unable to give me pricing for catering and unable to tell me how we can feed 20 people with 4 hours notice. Just a heads up for any offices that like to order, this is not the place. Great food but I think all the reviews about customer service are spot on. read more

Everyone giving Chronic Tacos a low score is being dramatic. I've gone here countless times and each time my bowl has been made exactly how I want it. They stuff their burritos so large that sometimes they have to use an extra tortilla to wrap it. It gets busy at lunch time but that's expected considering we're a campus of 20,000 students. I have ate here on a few different occasions but today was my last. I have ordered the steak on two different occasions and both I was very disappointed and frankly, disgusted especially by today's order. There were both extremely chewy pieces as well as a few pieces that were hard as a rock-neither edible. This makes me think that there is something wrong with their meat. Also, on numerous occasions I have said clearly that I wanted the sauce on the side and they still put it in the bowl-I have not tried all the sauces and wanted to try it before adding. I came during a field trip to the university and we got to explore the food court. I chose chronic tacos and they did not let me down. Their food was very good and their portions are understandable because my friend had asked for extra toppings and her burrito was super stuffed! For those wondering, I got a steak burrito. It came with fries, beans, and other toppings like lettuce and cheese and sauce.
