This place has been on my list of restaurants to visit for a while now, so I'm glad to have tried it. My party of two arrived on a Friday night around 6 PM and there was no wait. We were sat immediately and service was friendly and quick. We ordered a variety of Sushi including blue crab roll, a special cut roll, and of course, the premium sashimi platter. Food came out quickly, and the presentation was beautiful. I love how they use really thick cuts of fish and do not skimp on the portion sizes. I would say, if you are an avid fan of sashimi, the premium sashimi platter is a must here to share (or not!) Overall, I really enjoyed my time here and would highly recommend this as a great sushi spot in downtown Brea. I will definitely be back.
Long time diner, first time reviewer. Their sushi is generally good, although a bit on the pricey side. I did not like their Agedashi Dōfu because they make it different from most places where I've had it. The tofu is supposed to be served in sauce or broth. But theirs is all dry and did not come with enough sauce or broth to dip into, so the flavor was a little off for me. The rolls are decent. Personally I think they're packed with too much rice. The Poke Salad did not have a very generous amount of sashimi compared to other sushi restaurants. The restaurant itself is kind of small so the seating space makes me feel a bit claustrophobic.
Chubby Sushi & Ramen is a great place to stop in for casual dining. This place is fully decorated with a whole bunch of stuff, it was a bit anxiety-provoking. We ordered the Chubby Sashimi ($65) to share between two people. The sashimi tasted fresh, but the sweet shrimp head was not deep fried enough so parts of the shell was not edible. I didn't like that it didn't come with rice. Service was just okay. They never once refilled our waters and both of our glasses were empty before we even finished our meal. Overall, this place was not bad but not great.
The Chubby Roll is my favorite. This order is enough for a meal, in fact, I took the last piece home because I couldn't finish it. And I couldn't bare to waste good food by throwing it away. The only thing I would change is that I felt rushed, constantly being asked to order. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt, and chalk it up to attentiveness, but it was borderline pushy.
Really cute spot in Brea with a cozy, inviting interior We tried a variety of items including the pink lady roll, yellowtail with jalapeño, tuna bone marrow, chubby sashimi, chubby angel roll, mixed tempura, and miso ramen. Everything came out fresh and well prepared. The rolls were flavorful without being overpowering, and the sashimi was thiccck and high quality. The bone marrow was especially rich and buttery and stood out as a unique dish. The tempura was light and crispy, and the ramen was warm and comforting so perf way to finish the meal Service was good and the food came out at a steady pace. Overall, a solid spot if you're in the area and craving sushi and ramen in one place. Would definitely return!!
I visited Chubby Sushi on Saturday evening with my family, including our 9-year-old son, and unfortunately had a very disappointing experience. As we were standing at the entrance waiting to be seated, a waiter named Jun swung the front door open, hitting me. He didn't apologize, left the door open, and walked back inside without saying a word. A few minutes later, we were seated on the outdoor patio. It was very difficult to read the menu because the lighting was so poor, so we politely asked our server, Jun (the same person from the entrance), if we could be seated inside instead. He immediately seemed irritated. While cleaning a table, he threw the napkins onto it in frustration, which made us feel very uncomfortable. Jun told us he wasn't sure if an indoor table would be available. I kindly asked if he could check and let us know, but his response was, "I can't kick people out." His attitude throughout the interaction was rude and unprofessional. We requested a different server, and she was able to seat us inside almost immediately. From that point on, the food was excellent, and the service from the new server was great. Unfortunately, the experience had already been overshadowed by the way Jun treated us. The most upsetting part happened near the end of our meal. As I was walking to the restroom, Jun physically bumped into my shoulder. It didn't feel accidental, and I was shocked. I asked him, "Are you serious?" He quickly apologized and walked away. This experience was unacceptable. No guest should be treated this way, especially in front of their child. While the food was very good, the service we received from Jun completely ruined our evening. Because of this experience, we will not be returning
Food here was fresh and well prepared. Services were great. We ordered the chirashi, dragon roll and salmon with crab and asparagus.
Quite possibly the best lunch deal out there! For about $17-22, you can get a three course lunch. For people like me who can't decide, this is amazing. I went with the tonkatsu ramen, nigiri sushi and tempura for about $22. My buddy ordered very similarly and we split the seared bluefin tuna with asparagus appetizer. Everything was pretty good, but have had better across the board. If it were for lunch combo, I would have given 5 stars because it's rare to get these types of options with this level of quality. I do wonder if the nigiri or other items would be better if not part of the lunch special. I guess we will have to find out for dinner because there is no way I wouldn't order the lunch again if it's offered!
The Chubby Sashimi is a must--its refined presentation is just the start, loaded with luxury bites like uni, chu toro, sweet shrimp, and more. First time trying tuna marrow, and wow--each bite was juicy, fresh, and so rich. The tuna nachos, yellowtail with jalapeño, and Chubby Roll hit all our fusion cravings. 5/22/26 Chubby Sushi & Ramen Brea, CA...Came here with a couple peeps to Celebrate a late Mother's Day! We had so many items! We started off with a salmon asparagus appetizer roll. We also ordered 3 more rolls as a main course including Chubby high protein, Chubby Angel, and Brea rolls. Our main Sushi course was the Chubby Bowl. We also added Crab and Baked Scallop rolls! Everything was so good!!! Service was excellent! Place was clean and inviting! It looks like the lunch time crowd is pretty good as well. Parking is free in the area behind which is 2 hours, behind and south is 3 hours, or if you park in the structure even more south there is no limit. Come enjoy this place when you can!
2nd time here in 3 years & it does not disappoint! The prices are fairly reasonable, fish is fresh & everything in all was tasty. Our server was attentive & also didn't rush us when it was a busy Sunday on memorial weekend. Love the decor in the restaurant! Everything we ate was so good - we wanted quality, not quantity! This is a good go-to sushi spot to get your fix if you don't want AYCE.
Came here recently and it ended up being one of the better sushi meals I've had in a while. The fish tasted incredibly fresh and you can tell they care about quality. The bluefin tuna was the highlight for me. It had that rich, buttery texture that just melts when you eat it. We ordered a few rolls along with some sushi and everything was really well done. The rolls were flavorful but not overloaded with sauces, which I always appreciate because you can actually taste the fish. The portions were also really solid. We also tried ramen and it was great for sharing. Warm, comforting, and full of flavor. It's nice when a place does both sushi and ramen well instead of just focusing on one. Service was friendly and attentive, and the overall vibe was casual and welcoming. Definitely a spot I'd come back to when I'm craving good sushi.
My first visit to Chubby Sushi felt like coming home. As a party of one, I was welcomed in and given a seat right at the chef's table, where I got to watch all the artistry and hard work that goes into every dish. It turned what could have been a simple dinner into a memorable experience from the moment I sat down. I ordered the sashimi plate, and it was absolutely outstanding--fresh, beautifully prepared, and surprisingly well-priced for the quality. What impressed me most was the honesty of the staff. I was considering ordering a larger portion, but they actually talked me out of it because they knew I wouldn't finish it. They were right. That small gesture showed me they cared more about giving me a great experience than squeezing a few extra dollars out of my wallet. That kind of customer service is rare these days. What makes this experience even more memorable is that I had just come from X Fish Izakaya, where I spent nearly an hour waiting to be seated while watching people who arrived after me get seated first. I left feeling frustrated and completely overlooked. Walking into Chubby Sushi was the exact opposite experience. Here, I felt welcomed, appreciated, and genuinely taken care of from the moment I walked through the door. As if the food and service weren't enough, on my way out I met a well-known food reviewer and even got the chance to hold a giant tuna head that Chubby Sushi had on display for a photo. It was one of those unexpected moments that made an already great night unforgettable. Sometimes a bad experience leads you exactly where you're supposed to be. I'm genuinely glad X Fish Izakaya dropped the ball because it led me to discover Chubby Sushi. This wasn't just a great meal--it was one of the best dining experiences I've had in a long time and one I'll remember for years to come. I'll definitely be back. Chubby Sushi didn't just earn my business--they earned a customer for life.
We came here because our usual sushi spot happened to be closed and this was a great spot! The inside feels very intimate and several waiters checked on us during our visit. We ordered a ton of food and the price was still fairly reasonable for a sushi place. My husband and I both tried the ramen (Shoyo and Tonkotsu) with the chili paste and sriracha and they were very flavorful! Despite knowing ramen typically has noodles, I ordered more noodles on the side because I wasn't sure based on the menu's wording. I ended up having enough for a second meal so that worked out. My husband tried various types of sushi with their fresh wasabi and their fresh wasabi and a flavor unlike others we've tried! It was bold in a very good way! My husband thought his nigiri pieces were all fresh and went well with the wasabi. My son ate the California roll and snow flake gyoza. As a toddler he was a bit confused at the snowflake part but he enjoyed it nonetheless. We also had the fried oyster and it was lightly coated in panko and quite delicious! We spent a little over $100 for the 3 of us to eat but that's fairly expected for us when we go out for sushi. It can be expensive but we felt like we got a good amount of food here than we do at other places for a similar price. The wait staff was all very nice as well- they went out of their way to be kind to my son by giving him children's chopsticks, a high chair and checking on him specifically during our dining experience. If you love sushi & ramen, this spot is a must try! The quality of their fish is amazing and gets flown in from Japan every Friday. Their Chubby Sashimi was so good and literally melts in your mouth! We tried their Tonkatsu Ramen that comes with tender chashu pork and perfect, soft-boiled eggs. They even have some unique items like their Tuna Marrow Shot made from bluefin tuna. read more

First things first, this place has FRESH wasabi. Our fam started off with spicy garlic edamame, always a must. If you're looking for authentic sushi and ramen, Chubby Sushi and Ramen in Brea is a must try! This place transports you to Japan. The Chubby Sashimi is incredibly fresh and aesthetically pleasing. Additionally, the oysters were just the right mix of salty and sweet. I tried the volcano roll, chubby roll, and chubby ninja roll - so easy to share with the fam! We also had the tonkatsu ramen & tempura combo! The broth was rich and creamy, and the tempura was crunchy and delicious. Great service & atmosphere as well. My new favorite sushi spot. I wish I had more photos but the food is so good that I ate it all too quickly. This place is amazing! Located in downtown Brea you can park in the parking structure and walk to the restaurant. Upon entering the place looks small but it is super popular. The place is always packed but there's not usually a line, just full tables consistently. My family and I have been here two times the past month and it's amazing. We ordered the whole fish spanish mackerel which came with1/2 sushi 1/2 sashimi and they later took the head and tail to fry. We have had the same server two times in a row and she is amazing, so polite and helpful when ordering. Service is quick and the quality of the food is top notch. Uni was amazing, scallops divine, sweet shrimp came with the choice of fried heads. If you're a sushi lover this spot is for you. 20/10. A hidden gem for sure. read more

What a great place to celebrate the first day of 2025! We had dinner here with a couple of friends and we ordered so much food, we definitely left chubbier than we arrived! Hehe The sushi and sashimi was fresh and great quality. Some of the pieces just melt in your mouth delicious! And the service was friendly and attentive. The place isn't large so make sure to arrive early to get good seating or make reservations. It is located next to the Brea Improv so it def gets busy. There's parking in the back and across the street in the structure. They've only been opened for a year and they're doing great! read more

Checked out this spot with the wife because we wanted to try something new. She wanted ramen, I wanted sushi. Look at that! This place has both! The restaurant itself isn't big. Definitely reservations if you're wanting to come and visit this place. We wanted to try their lunch special, but apparently, it was a holiday and they don't do lunch specials on holidays. Bummer. We looked at the menu and found what we wanted. The tonkatsu ramen for my wife and the premium chirashi for me. Don't be like me and forget to check in to get 15% off $50 or more!!! Bummed I forgot to take advantage of that Yelp offer. The ramen was good, but there was a flavor that I can't pin point that I wasn't a huge fan of. It wasn't bad, but it was an aftertaste that I didn't like. The pork was cooked nicely and the noodles were good! The premium chirashi was good! All the fish tasted great! Mine came with uni, sweet shrimp, toro, blue fin tuna, scallop, salmon, and some other white fish. The fried shrimp head was alright. It wasn't as flavorful as other ones that I've had. All the other fishes were great though! Only downside is the wasabi wasn't that good. It was crumbly and didn't seem fresh. Overall, I would probably give this place another try. Probably when I can take advantage of their lunch special. 4/5 stars is fair. Minus 1 star for meh wasabi, less than flavorful sweet shrimp head, ramen aftertaste flavor, and no lunch special on a holiday. So take that as you will! read more
Fish was fresh and they have presentation on point, but could work on service. Service was really slow even though it was not a full house. It took about 15-20 mins just to get even water let alone order. The stars of the show was the Hokkaido uni and the yellowtail and salmon belly that we ordered on the side not pictured. Was a little disappointed that with the chubby deluxe that we did not get belly pieces or slightly better cuts with the price, but overall was good. I found this place on Yelp and had never heard of it before. Little did I know its totally a foodie place! Wow! I was literally woo'd. We started with a Chubby Ninja Roll and it was good, but the sauce had a smokey flavor which we weren't a huge fan of. Not sure what the sauce was exactly but didn't like it much. Besides that, the roll itself was super yum! I love the green onion on it and it had like 4 different types of fish in it, maybe 5 i dont remember lol. Hefty rolls for sure. My favorite though is their sashimi. We got the chubby sashimi which had 20 pieces of fish. My favorite was the salmon! It literally tasted like butter. Second favorite had to be the blue fin tuna! Their fish is SO fresh. The presentation on the sashimi was super cool! I wasn't expecting that. The food both came out very quickly and the service was wonderful! Really no complaints here. Prices are super duper affordable for how QUALITY the fish is. There is easy parking behind the place and also right across the street is a huge parking structure which is free. read more

Another Dog friendly restaurant. This one is in Brea! The service was attentive and very accommodating. Generous thickly sliced of fresh sashimi. We ordered the chubby 20 pieces sashimi with a tonkatsu ramen. Our sashimi came out with dry ice for presentation and I loved it. So whimsical! Ambiance is casual and had a nice patio enough to accommodate a decent amount of tables. We waited about 15-20min for our patio table. Will definitely come back with our pup. read more

Good sushi with friendly but slightly slow service! I believe this restaurant just opened so maybe the service is just part of the early days/training period. We ordered 3 rolls, 2 bowls of ramen, and the chubby sashimi. The rolls were good (I liked the chubby roll the best)! I liked the chubby sashimi as well - I was impressed with the sweet shrimp, scallop, and uni. I wish there were 2 uni pieces, but that's a small thing to be picky about. There's parking in the back of the restaurant. There's also a parking structure across the street as well, so plenty of parking available. I ordered the Salmon Poke Bowl andddd it was sooo good! The service was fine, area was clean with plenty of seating, however the food was hit or miss. The hand rolls weren't what I was expecting, the ramen was just OK (not a lot of flavor and the noodles weren't impressive, but the eggs were cooked perfectly), but eel and tuna were great. read more
Came here on Christmas Eve with a friend and it wasn't too busy... we were quickly seated and got our orders (1 roll each) within 15 minutes or so. Note: there is free 2 hour parking in the lot behind the restaurant. Our server seemed to be rather knowledgeable regarding the menu and was very kind in suggesting their favorites. I ended up ordering my go-to roll, the crunch roll, as I was craving shrimp tempura. I was pretty impressed with the crunch roll - the shrimp tempura can sometimes get soggy, but this one was nice and crunchy. I also found the imitation crab to taste pretty flavorful and fresh making for a satisfying bite. Not sure the next time I'll be in the Brea area, but if you're looking for a sushi joint, I'd recommend checking Chubby Sushi & Ramen out! read more

A hidden gem in Brea!! I recommend the Chubby Sashimi for $59! Perfect amount for a table of 4 people and add some additional rolls and a ramen to share! Overall fish quality was very fresh! It was my first visit and would definitely come back. Ask for the fresh wasabi!!! So good. Was surprised by the spicy garlic edamame!! That one had such good garlic flavor -- the perfect snack starter! Parking behind the restaurant is limited but there's a huge parking structure across the street. Service was very attentive! Well staffed and there were constantly workers walking around helping tables. Interior was very clean and nicely decorated. read more

My bro Pete invited me and a few friends to have lunch at his favorite Sushi spot in Brea. The owner, the staff and the dining area were all top notch. Very impressive I have to say. The fish is super fresh and the Sapporo was ice cold. Now to the food! We had Chubby rolls, spicy blue fin tuna tacos and You must check out the chubby egg. I will ask for a mixture of spicy tuna or another chopped fish combined with the imitation crab filling when I return to make it an even more interesting bite. The chubby egg has a fanned out avocado blanket enveloping it with masago on top for garnish. I ordered a rainbow roll and asked for a spicy tuna filling to give it a bang. What a hit that was. You really need to try this spot. The service is very attentive, the sushi is so tasty and fresh. It may become your new favorite spot too! read more

Love this place and the location! The sushi rolls tasted very high-quality and flavorful. We got eel, salmon, and chubby ninja rolls. They don't overdo it with the sauces which I've noticed is common in a lot of sushi spots. The service is quick and friendly. I was pleasantly surprised by the size of the chubby ninja roll, it was bigger than expected. One thing about the inside is that everytime I go here it feels a little too warm. Not sure if they turn on AC. Other than that, great spot! read more

This review of mine is long overdue; my hubby and I came here for lunch during their soft opening. 1) Chubby roll: the inside filling has salmon, bluefin tuna, yellowtail and green onion wrapped with soy paper; this is a very delicious roll, I feel this one was very well thought-out with yummy flavors (5/5) 2) Bluefin Tuna lover: O toro (3 pc), chu toro (3 pc), and bluefin tuna (3 pc). Delicious, melts in your mouth freshness! Recommend getting it with their fresh wasabi (5/5) 3) Chubby sushi: basically a 10 pc premium sushi omakase plate, their fish is very fresh and delicious! (5/5) I also recommend their miso soup (with the fresh shrimp), it's delicious and flavorful (unfortunately I didn't get a picture of it). We were able to get 30% off our bill (not sure if that is still honored since we went during soft opening). We felt the wait from ordering to getting our food was a bit longer than usual, but hopefully there has been smoother transitions since their grand opening. I would totally come here again because service is friendly and the food is absolutely delicious. Overall, prices are decent. Credit cards are accepted and there is parking in the back, highly recommend! read more
