Clockwise: Taste of Everything sampler, sauce plate: honey mustard, cream-gravy and ranch, and fries
Michelle D.

The only thing missing were milkshakes. I'm sure there could've been a work around. When I Googled this place in advance, the two descriptors were diner and Greek food. In Dallas? Why not! You have your Tiffany lamps overhead, plenty of booths and size-able interior. Service was on it. Food arrived relatively quickly. Fried batter tasted fresh. Flavor was a little on the mild side. I'd say have them bring you hot sauce, if need be. Menu- there's a little of everything. Brace yourself. Went with some fan favs- fried protein and pie. My friend ordered the gumbo. I'll have to make a return for the Greek noms. Lots of parking in the retail lot. Enjoy this family gem!

Can't believe this place has been around for nearly 40 years and I've just heard about it. I do live on the other side of town but have frequented the arboretum and White Rock park, which are nearby, many times. Arrived at 11:00 on Sunday to a 15 minute wait. Impressed that hostess greeted many patrons by name. By the time we were seated there were 30-40 people waiting! This reminds me of Mama's Daughters or Norma's home cooking type places. I really prefer Mama's but Chubby's is a close second. I think Norma's is terrible. I judge these types of places by two things: can they fry at proper temperatures and can they season properly. I had chicken fried steak, okra and mashed potatoes and gravy. Frying was excellent - crispy and zero grease on steak and okra. Potatoes and gravy needed a bit more seasoning. There is a large breakfast ( served anytime) menu and a variety of meat and two sides, sandwiches, Greek and Italian options also. There is a 5 vegetable plate for the bargain price of $10.50. Menu is very large and I'm looking forward to exploring. Large dessert case in lobby - homemade pies and cakes. We took home German chocolate and coconut pie. Pretty tasty. Oh and if you're a coffee cup nut like my husband a Chubby's souvenir cup is $3.99!! And yes he came home with one.

OMG, Chubby's has upped their game! Best chicken fried chicken I have ever had and the turnip greens were insanely good! Give them a try.

3 Meat Omelette with hash browns

Chubby's has been around forever and it's always a decent option if you're craving traditional diner food. The omelettes, burgers and chicken fried steak aren't the best but they're far from the worst and the prices are good for the portion size.

We love supporting small businesses and CHUBBY's- one of the Best breakfast in Dallas! Now we want to come check out their lunch - heard their fish and chips is amazing. We had the gyro omelette, Chubby's breakfast, and John's omelette. All were delicious. Highly recommend and worth a drive if needed!

Good to a good meal at a great price, plus they have a $5.00 coupon in monthly mailer. Staff are attentive. I had the gyro sandwich with onion rings. Delicious and enough for another meal later. Tiki Hubby had cornbeef with 2 eggs over easy and biscuit and gravy. Coffee and tea always spit on. You can not go wrong at Chubby's for yummy food with downhome cooking with daily specials. Nice kids and senior options with lower prices.

Piece of Chocolate Fudge Cake

Absolutely great place! Went there with my roommates after work, and very happy we did. The staff was really friendly and kept checking in on us. The owner chatted with us for a while and told us all about him and his creation of this place. Food was quite delicious, good temp and great flavor. I had the breakfast chicken fried steak, with some of the potatoes (that they only serve on Monday). Saved some room for chocolate cake, it was worth it. Will 100% be coming back!

Our trio is vegetarian, and the prix fixe options were not v.f. However, Gary and staff were understanding, and adjusted the selections to fit our needs. The dishes were plated beautifully, there was no delay in service, and they did not serve a side dish of "attitude." Thankfully, as we were dining after 6pm, the dining rooms were not SRO, nor were their guests on the patio, or we certainly would not put upon the kitchen crew the adjustments. The setting and space of McRae's is refreshingly unique, cozy and welcoming. Dress up or down, you'll always feel welcome. And the previous times we have dined there, , the food is always prepared with attention, servings generous and the taste is superb. The creme brûlée? Truly, "tres magnifique." With a covered patio, McRae's is ready for any weather conditions in Dallas. There is also a full bar, and our wine pours were not stingy. "Thanks again" Gary and crew, for your hospitality, support and ever delicious food. "Support local and independent" knowing that McRae's is a top choice and standout in this category.

Came here after walking at White Rock lake! Luckily for me they have two vegetarian options! YES!…read more They had a veggie bean burger and an impossible burger. I got the impossible burger with sweet potato fries. Amazing! We sat outside which may have been the wrong move, once the food arrived a slew of flies swarmed us and would not give up! We were barely able to get through half of the meal before deciding to take half of the meal home and getting out of there. The staff was friendly. They love dogs and came to hang out with our dog and give them plenty of water. They even offer treats if you would like. There is plenty of parking for an off period (we came at around 2pm). This is such an awesome place, but next time we will sit inside.

In the end, we all just try to tally up the wins and losses and try our best to rate a restaurant. This is my story. Usually when traveling, I try to get in a smattering of different genres of food. Mostly because I tire easy. Like when walking. I also try to get in some of the best things I like. Which are burgers. And wings. I'm also kind of a sucker for wildly long names of things. Which is exactly where good friend beer garden and burger house comes in. I really dug the look of the place. Open concept with the outside, outdoor seating, cool lighting ambiance. Just a really cool vibe and feel. Like a dorm room after your freshmen year. You know, once you get everything figured out and you aren't bunking with that weirdo with all the waifu pictures hanging up and FaceTimes with his cat. I will say though, the only weird drawback this place had was it was DARK on the inside. Never really had that problem before. Wouldn't have been an issue had I remembered my headlamp, but I left it back in the mines. And in all honesty, I don't care too much about the state of the building around me as long as the food hits hard. I was pumped about the wings as they seemed to have an assortment of flavors. I ordered four and thinking back, I can't remember why. Maybe that was the minimum, maybe you could only order in increments of four. Nobody really knows at this point and I'm way too far away to drive back and ask. So, four wings. You were able to split the sauces. Not like atoms, but like different flavors. This is food, not science. So, like a good CERN scientist, I requested split sauce. I inquired about the KFC flavoring and the server told me it was a rub and their version of secret blend of herbs and spices. I'm not a fan of rubs simply because if I'm going to eat wings, I want them saucy and messy. Like my relationships. BUT he said, and I quote "it's really good." That was all I needed to hear. Sign me up. After the rub I knew I needed a sauce. I settled with the Mild because it seemed like a good middle of the road. Man. Sometimes you do wings right and sometimes you do wings RIGHT. The KFC rub was 100% top tier rub. It wasn't a light rub which I've experienced before, it was a full on flavor soak. Make no mistake, you were going to experience that rub flavor. It was so good if I accidentally got some on my fingers, I'd just have nubs left. The Mild sauce was also top tier. Although I will say it seemed a few steps above a mild sauce. It was like a Low to Mid Hot sauce wearing a Mild sauce mask. Like the kind your mom and dad used to wear at those parties you weren't allowed to go to. Oh, and the wings had that chef's kiss crunch and that chiefs kiss juiciness. 10/10 want to experience these wings again in a Groundhog's Day setting. Now let's talk burger. I have found that I love smash burgers. I have not figured out yet how to make a delicious one myself, so I rely on the skill of others. Much like everything else in my life. Except dentistry. I do that myself. Castaway style. I ordered the Bourdain which included the patties, cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickles, and Kewpie mayo. Not sure what that last one is, but I like condiments on my burg, so sign me up. I'll let you in on a little secret, I used to make burgs for the Bee's back in my heyday. And a little deeper secret, I can't remember how we stacked them. That being said, when I make my personal burgers, everything is on top of the burger. I'll sometimes do a condiment or two on the bottom, but I have no real methodology. In my mind, you want that patty to hit those taste buds first. No middle man. Like the lawyer you kept having to talk to when trying to figure out which parent you wanted to live with. The Bourdain burger did the exact opposite with this burger. It had the lettuce and pickle as a buffer between meat and tongue. And honestly, I think that might have been what turned me off to the burger. I patties had good flavor, but it felt like it came in too late because I tasted toppings first. In my burger mind, this hurt more than it helped. Side Note: Fries were good. The spicy ranch would peel the paint off of any car, spot weld iron beams, and melt through your hand without protective gloves. It's hurting my mouth to even write this. PS Sorry for the sideways photos. I hate that, too. Chicken Wings: 12/10 Burger: 7/10 Spicy Ranch: Please Don't
