Walked in the door 22 minutes before closing and the waitress made it very clear that they were closing so we weren't really welcome to stay. That was enough for me to turn around and take my family elsewhere for dinner. There were others there that were still perusing the menu, obviously they hadn't ordered yet. Rugs were rolled up at the door and floor was wet from mopping. I opened the door, smiled and asked if we should eat outside in the patio seating. She ignored my question and said they closed at 9. I replied "so we shouldn't sit outside?" To which she did not answer- only smiled and averted her eyes. Did I mention we left? Maybe they don't need customers? Or maybe management wasn't around so the employee was taking her liberty to close early. read more

Chubby's dinner is a small home town feel in busy city. It is retro with 60/70 music and a dinner that you would see in that period of time. The food is excellent. We have never eaten one single bad meal and we started to eat there during COVID. The waitresses are professional, efficient , and just very nice. I can't say enough nice things about this place. I sure do miss Chubby's Diner in Madera. When I found myself in Fresno near Fashion Fair today, I decided I wanted a good old Double Chubby with Cheese. It was just as I remembered. Except in Madera it came as a combo with a drink. Here the drink was $3. My waitress was awesome but it looked like the entire staff was on their game. My drink stayed full, the steak sauce came with my meal. The service was perfect, just like the food. With my daughter a few blocks away at Fresno State, I'll be back to this place multiple times. This diner looked like it was going to be great for a late breakfast, but after sitting down and getting our coffees we were told we need to leave. He said that he would not allow us to eat inside since we had a service dog. A dog that is allowed in restaurants, as he is trained to help with certain disabilities. Even after informing him that he is a service dog, he still insisted we leave. I did not expect this kind of discrimination and happily left this establishment knowing that this is how an owner would treat a customer. We then went to Batter Up Pancakes and enjoyed a very nice breakfast with the company of my service animal. read more

I've been here quite a few times but haven't had a chance to fully explore the menu because I found their awesome Huevos Rancheros and can't seem to get away from it! The burgers are also quite good...definitely diner style burgers that I'd say are a step above your typical burger at Denny's. Overall the staff hustle to make sure you get your order promptly, but that doesn't stop them from being friendly! Chubby's is down the street from my house. It's a good place to get a quick breakfast or lunch. They recently changed their hours so they close at 4pm on most days. For diner food it is not greasy, and there's a reasonable selection on the menu. The food ranges from good to average. Their country potatoes are very good. They also have good waffles, pancakes, and anything fried. I've been to other Chubby's locations and they had different menus and food quality, so this review is for this location only. Me, my husband and 3 kids came to eat here today for breakfast! We have never been here but always wanted to stop by.. Quality Food: Everybody got breakfast but i had to try their burgers.. This is definitely going to be our go to spot for breakfast or lunch! The food is delicious from the fluffy, buttery pancakes and thick cut bacon to the fresh burgers n homemade onion rings.. We were very impressed n beyond satisfied! Awesome Service: Our waitress was Angie n she made us feel very welcome and at home. She engaged with our toddlers and made sure we were well taken care of! Honestly, I loved the atmosphere! My meal felt like a solid home cooked meal, coffee was hot and fresh, the serving size were huge! Plenty for left overs. They make their biscuits in house, all you really need is some butter and you are good to go! Definitely worth a revisit, looking forward to it! read more

Chubby's is a greasy spoon. Every time I have come here, the food has been perfect. This is old school American breakfast and Burgers. They do desserts and shakes but I've yet to try them. My favorite is the New York Steak and Eggs. Char grilled steak, eggs cooked to order, choice of toast and hash browns or country potatoes. read more

Excellent food. Had my daughters birthday st lunch today. Servers were especially nice and exceptional. Told Irma our server it was my daughters birthday. They brought her a vanilla milk shake as a gift. Before leaving, they all came out and brought her a strawberry filled ice cream dish and sang Happy Birthday! I specifically joined yelp to review this place after reading the two negative reviews here. We have been regular customers at this restaurant for at least 7 years and hit it at least once a week. It's a family owned and operated business that has been successful for many years, this doesn't happen in the restaurant business if the place is "shitty". It's basically a neighborhood diner in a strip mall, not "fine dining" or some kind of LA fantasy diner. Good honest unpretentious food at fair prices with excellent service. Special requests like extra crispy bacon or hashbrowns or no salt on the fries have never been a problem. We've never had anything approaching a bad experience there with the food or service-quite the opposite. Especially appreciate being able to order breakfast any time they're open. We live in the neighborhood and see many of the same customers there on a regular basis, so I guess a couple of bad reviews from out of towners won't hurt them much but I just wanted to set the record straight. The staff was very accommodating and friendly as they had to read the menu to me as I am blind. provided regular refills. am looking forward to trying other menu items. I have been coming here since as long as I can remember, I am now 20 years old and I can say the older I get the more I can appreciate Chubby's Diner. The ambience of this diner is that of a 50's diner with memorabilia casually scattered amongst the walls. The staff here is excellent and very friendly, creating an very inviting, family friendly environment. They refill coffee and waters before you get the chance to request it. Really like this spot for breakfast - the chicken fried steak is amazing!! My friend ordered pancakes with a side of bacon and eggs and they charged him separately for every thing. It ended up coming to $20 which is ridiculous for a diner. Also the pancakes were too sweet they tasted like birthday cake. Usually the service is great that was the only problem I've ever experienced here. I literally paid 25$ for a mess thrown into take out boxes. All my food was given in a bag upside down, which was a mess. I was given really burnt and dry bacon. French toast was a tasteless, it was worse than frozen french toast from Walmart. Everything I was given was in short tasteless and overpriced. Stick to lunch, DO NOT GET BREAKFAST. Okay guys, this place is shitty. Stopped here because of six 5-star reviews, but realise they were most likely written by the boss and employees of the joint (notice the self-advertising nature of the reviews). It's really crappy. Bad food, loads of grease, not fresh, scrambled eggs were not real eggs, steak was awful, even the coffee was bad. My wife and I felt nauseous and covered in grease after leaving here. Lessons I've learned. Don't pull off the Interstate into a town you don't know based on 6 reviews on Yelp that are all 5 stars and super positive. Stinks of employer manipulation of the facts. Avoid a place that is called something cute and ends in an "s" like "Chubbys". Run like the plague at a "vintage-style" diner that was constructed in the last 10 years out of off-the-shelf vintage furnishings. One good thing... our waitress was nice. All in all, avoid Fresno. Stopped in for dinner had the Philly steak and cheese. Our waitress Ashley was awesome. One of the best sandwiches I've had in California!
