Being a Korean who has lived in LA and been to many Korean restaurants, I give this restaurant 5 stars. The food quality, food selection, and service were really good. I went with two friends and we ordered the seafood pancake, grilled sole fish, and garbi (Korean short ribs). Each entree comes with a complimentary small cup of seafood soup "miyuk guk." First of all, they have 3 different kinds of pancakes. I usually see only 1 or 2 varieties but Chunju Han-il Kwan had seafood, kimchi, and scallion pancake options. The seafood pancake was thin yet crispy and full of squid, baby shrimp, and green onions. We liked that the batter wasn't thick and dough-y. Second the garbi was super flavorful, juicy, and good quality. It wasn't super chewy nor fatty at all. The grilled fish was crispy, not fishy-tasting, and not salty either. It was made just right with the fish easily falling off the bones (with a little maneuvering). As for the side dishes, they had jap-chae (clear glass noodles), dotori-muk (acorn jelly, which is a jelly made from acorn starch), and both cucumber kimchi (which can be considered a seasonal dish), and regular Napa kimchi. There were others as well and all the Bon chon (side dishes) were good and seemed handmade. Also the Bon chon were refilled multiple times which is always a plus. The prices were reasonable. All 3 entrees plus a large beer was only $112 with tax. I would return here and so would my friends. read more

7.11.26 - 1 minute walk from my hotel! I grabbed a quick bite while waiting to check into my hotel and was also waiting for my cousin to get off work too. Saw a few spots with cold noodles and decided to go to this one to save time. It was a bit busy when I walked in but not too busy where you had to wait long. I was able to get seated right away. They give you a pitcher of barley tea. Pretty common at majority of Korean restaurants. I ordered Cold Noodle w/ Kimchi. My go-to dish during hot summer days. It didn't take long to come out. They give you a variety of banchan, a bottle of Korean hot mustard and a bottle of vinegar. At first, it didn't have enough kimchi flavor in the broth for me but you can always add in the kimchi and some of the other banchan to give it more flavor too. I was only able to eat half and packed up the rest for later. Im glad I had extra cuz I was eating the other half around 3am and it was so good at that time! I wouldn't mind coming back but there are so many places to try that I have bookmarked so will most likely try new spots next time. FYI the parking lot is valet only. I've seen this in many plazas out here. I don't see the point of that but I would recommend carpooling or rideshare if you can to avoid the hassle of paying for valet or looking for parking around the place. read more

Service is a miss even when they're not busy and only have 3 tables. Was constantly having to flag out servers because no one would look up from what they were doing. This is where you go for really authentic Korean food. I got the army stew and it hit that classic flavor profile, comforting and hearty. The ginseng soup was also solid, tasted like a really good chicken noodle soup but with that ginseng depth. Banchan here is really good too, lots of variety and everything tasted fresh. Nothing about this place blew me away but nothing missed either. It is just solid, quality Korean food across the board. Last Saturday (5/16/2026) at lunch, I had lunch with my family at Jeonju Hanilkwan. My mom recently had a health checkup, and they found that she has several cysts (or masses) on her pancreas. She has already had two follow-up tests recently, and she also had an MRI not long ago. Her doctor said she needs one more test next week to get more accurate results. Because of that, I've been very worried about my mom's health lately, and we've been trying to eat healthier. On top of that, my mom has had a pretty bad cold recently, and she said she wanted to eat bean sprout soup because she heard it's good for colds, so that's one of the reasons we especially decided to go there. My mom and my two brothers ordered bean sprout soup, and I ordered ttukbaegi bulgogi (bulgogi served in a hot stone pot). I've been there many times before, and whenever I go, I usually order the fish roe stone pot rice. Otherwise, I sometimes order budae jjigae (Korean army stew). That day, I was curious about what the lunch special ttukbaegi bulgogi tasted like, so I decided to try it. I noticed they had lunch specials on the menu, and I liked that you could order the lunch special on both weekdays and weekends. But honestly, although I've enjoyed almost all of the other dishes there before, the ttukbaegi bulgogi wasn't that good. About a 1-1.5: Juhn Ju Han Il Gwan is a Korean restaurant that is beloved by many - they are also open early, too, as they offer breakfast specials that most take advantage of. We came here for breakfast, but opted to order off the main menu: +the Ddook Bae Gi Bulgogi - aka, bulgogi in an earthen ware bowl; this also came with a bowl of mee yuk guk (seaweed soup) +the Chung Guk Jang - fermented soybean paste stew; this also came with a makeshift bibimbop with veggies The bulgogi had no flavor whatsoever - it was extremely bland, and we were hoping for a soothing sweet/savory soup to eat with the rice. The Chung Guk Jang, which is one of my favorites, was just 'okay' - it could have been more thick and more flavorful, but it did have a slight 'old dishrag' taste to it - this means that they're using something to wipe the wares that hasn't been washed properly in a while. The mee yuk guk was super watered down, and almost tasted like soap water got in. The banchans were fine, which were preferred over than the main dishes. The aunties were helping us out so we already knew it was going to be extra good! This was the week that it was heavily raining in LA and was craving some rich spicy soup and landed on budae jigae/army stew. One of the best food decisions made this year, it was so much for 3 people (as well as the pancake). There were generous amounts of spam, rice cake and noodles on there and the aunties refill the soup if it dries out. We even had leftovers after. Purple rice is also an option so that is a plus. An unexplainable negative experience. I ordered the sundubu combo with galbi and the sundubu came out completely tasteless, but somehow still spicy. I don't even know how that's possible quite frankly; it tasted like hot water that had been boiled with chilis. I'm not typically the type to ask for a dish to be remade at restaurants, but this time I had to do so, as it was basically inedible. Upon making complaints about the dish, they remade it for me, only for it to come out exactly the same but spicier. I was distraught, hence the review. One of my favorite go-to Korean traditional food restaurants in LA Koreatown. The two must-order dishes for me are the budae jjigae and the pancakes I get them every time. No explanation needed just go try it. The owner is so kind and you can tell she's genuinely happy when customers enjoy the food. More like 3.5 stars Chunju is definitely one of the older Korean restaurants in K-town. A lot of their customers are older Korean folks who seem to know staff by name and greet them warmly. Which also means this place serves authentic Korean food. This restaurant is for bigger groups. People typically come with friends because the portions are big and can be shared family style. I came with my friend, D, who was visiting from out of town. And even then, I think we were a bit of too small a group. To get the full experience, definitely 4 or more in a group. We ordered the Budae-jjigae and a Kimchi-jeon (pancake). Great spread of banchans - I think there was 6 - 8? Their regular kimchi was okay and the cucumber was a bit too sour for my liking. Rice was purple rice (big plus). The jjigae portion was very generous. Could easily feed 4 people even though the menu portion said 2-3 people. I was a bit disappointed with their jeon. It didn't taste as flavorful as other places make it and it was about $20. But that's on me...jeon inflation and disappointment is consistent across a lot of the Korean restaurants I go to. Campaign to bring back the $8 jeon! Anyways, it's really good for dinner with big groups. They also serve alcohol but don't remember much about the pricing. The leftovers were not as good the day after. Chunju is definitely food that has to be eaten the day of. It's hard to find good restaurant biji jjigae, so this was a great find. First, the portion was good sized. But more importantly, the texture is really outstanding, the soybean curds have a tender yet resilient consistency, somehow a subtle dry feel on the tongue which contrasts with the steaming hot stew broth it is served in. Each satisfying bite is slightly yielding, almost meaty in texture, which pairs amazingly with the savory broth. Adding a bit of soy sauce to the pork along the way enhances the flavor, I definitely recommend doing that. The purple rice (forgot what it's called) that comes with it is also a surprising contrast in textures, both soft, moist, and firm at the same time (like al dente style). Great treat to have with the banchan. The restaurant is clearly popular, with people outside waiting to be seated at all times. Had the Ugeoji Galbitang (우거지 갈비탕) "Beef Rib Soup with Cabbage" to go, which was also excellent. There was also a cool poem by the famous Li Po (I-Tae-Baek 이태백 in Korean) engraved on the wall where we were seated, and cool ceiling lanterns and Minwha print of the famous tiger and magpie. read more

I love the side dishes as much as the main if not more!I think the quality and variety of banchan tells you everything about the main dish before it ever arrives. Interior is classic korean 1980's style with wood paneling every where but it gives a more traditional, comforting vibe. We ordered the short ribs, beef and spicy pork bulgogi. The staff is very nice and was constantly coming to check if we wanted more side dishes, which came out immediately. Great variety of banchan and so good. Our main dishes came out 5 min after we ordered so very fast service. Portions of the beef and pork bulgogi were not alot but more than enough, the short ribs surprisingly had bigger portion and lots of flavor. This is my new favorite place we went on a Friday night before we flew to Portland and had it again when we returned on Saturday. I really loved this place and will definitely be back. I know the big thing is to cook your kbbq at the table but I honestly dislike having to cook .y food when i am paying to eat out. love when its prepared in the kitchen which this place does. Seafood pancake: 2.5/5. At a whopping $26.49 for a seafood pancake, we expected this to be very delicious... but it was so soggy that it made us sad LOL. I had a very disappointing experience at this restaurant. I decided to visit this place after seeing an official Reel on their Instagram page, expecting a good experience, but I was completely let down. While the food was okay, the staff's attitude was truly unacceptable. When I first walked in, they greeted me in Korean, but as soon as I spoke in English, their demeanor changed completely, and they became noticeably rude. When I asked for extra side dishes (banchan), the staff ignored my request and looked at me with a very dismissive and unpleasant expression. Furthermore, even while customers were still eating, the staff sat at a nearby table and started talking and laughing loudly, showing no respect for their patrons. The worst part happened when I left without leaving a tip. They stared at me with open hostility and actually shouted at me from behind. My visit to this restaurant is one of my first experiences in Koreatown and I was very happy. We were greeted with a smile as soon as we walked in and i felt like I was back in korea. The staff was very kind, the food was amazingly fast and bubbling with deliciousness! The bonchon was very fresh and it was the perfect compliment to my soup. If I didn't know any better , based off of the decor and the atmosphere, I would think that I was in Korea again! This restaurant has good Korean home cooking. Most of the dishes I've tried are basic but what I really like is the variety and quantity of banchan dishes that are included. The service is homey, and they frequently ask to refill your banchan. Of all the menu items, I particularly like the dish called "octopus and vegetables". It's surprisingly light and looks like a small dish but it's packed with flavor. It somehow goes really well with rice. I also enjoy the grilled sole. They have a lot, but you have to pay for parking. Maybe you can find street parking. Lots of side options which is a huge plus. Kimchi is on the citrusy side if you like yours like that. Potato pancake is really good. It comes on a skillet and it was crispy. Probably one of the best pancakes I've had. We finished it completely, so that says a lot. The spicy beef soup wasn't the best tasting. It was okay. But the ratio of beef, noodle, egg, vegetables inside was very good. This place is a solid old school Korean style restaurant with very home made side dishes. When I entered the restaurant it felt like I entered someone's house. They sat me and my friends down and we were delighted at how the food came out. The side dishes were very well made with my favorites being the fish cake and the japchae. I ordered the lunch special with the bulgogi beef and that came with soup. The meat was very tender and juicy so I was satisfied with how well it came out. I originally was craving Naengmyeon (cold noodles in chilled broth), and Chunju's naengmyeon and menu was cheaper, so we decided to check it out. Btw, big yes to the wooden furniture!!!! So old school and I loved it. Again, agreeing with many other reviewers - food is great. Banchan and all the other dishes we ordered came out fresh and delicious. Overall, though, many dishes were a bit on the sweet side, but there are some that enjoy that taste. Naengmyeon - this is what I came for and it was pretty good! The broth was a bit sweet, but noodles were SUPER chewy and the bowl came with half a boiled egg. Easily split between 2 people. Oyster pancake - I LOVED THIS. I love oysters and this eggy pancake was sublime; oysters were juicy. It's a big portion, too. Beef bulgogi - this came in a combo with the naengmyeon for $20-something (I think our total bill was around $50 including tax?). Again on the sweet side, but quite juicy.
