Been in Austin for quite some time now... I just don't understand why people like to eat here. My 3rd time and my final time eating here. The wait for this place is simply not worth it when there are plenty of better places to go. Service is decent but i came for the food. I ordered the encheladas and all they did was slap some bland and dried up chicken on a plate, put a tortilla over it, and pour some green sauce over it... Wtf? I can do the same thing at home!!! Love love love Chuy's! Between the chicken tortilla soup and the happy hour nachos, it's cheap AND delicious! Their creamy jalapeño dip is like crack and I love that they use hatch chile on a lot of the menu items. I've been there dozens of times and everything is good. Some of the worst Mexican food I've ever had! Where is the white queso? You know, the smooth and creamy kind? Plus, the plate that I got had super small portions. My side of rice was literally three or four spoonfuls. I'm used to getting a plate full of rice with my main course on top. I think they are a bit arrogant from all the tourist hype that they get. A guy on the plane seated next to me recommended this place. It was pretty good, but I was a bit dissapointed when we got there to discover that it was a chain restaurant. We stayed anyway because we were hungry, but then ended up having to wait a pretty long time for a table. I would say the food was pretty good (bethe captain crunch chicken was terrific). Overally, I would say you can't go wrong eating there, but there are so many great places to eat in Austin, it is just tough to give this a 4 or a 5 star. read more

I have been going to Chuys my entire life and can't remember a single bad experience. The creamy jalapeño dip is the best dip in town and it's free. The deluxe chicken enchiladas have become my favorite but anytime I try something new it is always great. If you make it in for happy hour, the drink prices are good but the free queso, taco meat, beans, and chips (delicious nachos) are even better. The only downside can be the long waits, if you go any night for dinner expect a 45 min wait or longer. However, it's always worth the wait and you can get a great margarita while you wait. read more

My friend Becky who is a recent transplant to Austin brought me to Chuys since this was my first time in Austin and I wanted some good Mexican food. When I realized this was a chain I felt like Chuys was not going to be a great dining experience however........ The staff impressed me when we were seated within 20minutes after sitting in the bar, this was a very busy Friday night! Our servers couldn't be quick enough and gave me their opinion of the best dish on the menu; Hatch Chile Chicken Enchiladas! Being from New Mexico and knowing what "Hatch" means I ordered them and washed it down with the spicy margarita. About that Margarita, again, I was expecting the big slushy looking drink in a glass, yada yada yada but wait, Chuy's actually put some thought into this drink. They serve it in a small Martini glass ( I love Martini's) then then add a wedge of lime and jalapeno stuffed olive in the glass (Olive in a margarita? I know, stay with me) then they bring a big shaker of their spicy margarita, let it sit a bit to get cold, give it another shake and then pour, mmmmmm, pure goodness in a glass! Be careful, one is not enough, two might be too many! Back to those enchiladas. I was expecting ho hum Mexican food but the sauce on the enchiladas was creamy and delicious , the Hatch green chile was spicy but not too much so the spice wimps won't cry (grin), the beans and rice were nice too. Would I come back? Ya know, perhaps. There's plenty of Mexican food to choose from in Austin so It would probably be awhile but for a chain I thought Chuys did a great job! read more

Heard a lot about Chuy's being the best Tex-Mex here in Austin when I moved here a few years back. Just got around to trying them and . . . not impressed. At all. We got our food to take home. Hubby got enchiladas, I got fajitas. I did love the subtle flavoring of the steak, but that's all. Chips and salsa just flat out blah. Actually disappointed that the food was not better. Oh well, off to find another place to fill the Tex-Mex food void. read more

New to Austin from SF California where there is no shortage of Tex/Mex Style Cuisine, we have seriously been searching for that- scratch- the- itch for affordable yet bountiful and flavorful Tex/Mex: A place we could always come to and know that we'd be satisfied. We finally found it at CHUY's. We went on a late Saturday afternoon and were stunned by the hordes of people waiting to be seated with their entire families. We almost turned around but the hostess directed up to the bar area where by divine intervention we found two empty seats with our names on them. Our bartender, host, ADAM, immediately greeted us and assured us that we could stay there away from the super loud main room din and proceeded to tell us the history of the restaurant while talking up the special Green Chili festival that was going on. And so he made us wonderful "Mexican Martinis" served in individual shakers and then, under his expert guidance, suggested various and sundry items from the extensive menu. His co tender, CLINT (a man with the face, smile, and ingenuousness of an angel) was very helpful too with his assistance. And we noticed that these two guys were making us feel like the only two in the place while servicing the entire restaurant making drinks as if they'd been handling it all for years. All I can say is that its truly the people that make a restaurant no matter how good the food may be and I've been to some of the finest. And these two terrific guys are worthy of praises and raises. As we left, the lovely MORGAN was starting her shift and fell into synch with the other guys and is a very lucky lady to be surround by these exceptionally handsome and extremely capable restaurateurs. In all, a warm and tasty meal served up with all the polish of a fine dining establishment. Thanks ADAM and CLINT for a great visit. I have always been a Chuy's fan and the service has always been great. However, last night I had a server that went above and beyond! I was sitting on the patio outside with my friends having a few mango margaritas and I was being bitten left and right by mosquitoes. I asked Miguel our server if they happened to have any bug spray. He said that he would look and if he couldn't find any then he would go buy some. I thought he was kidding but when he didn't find any he had gone across the street to buy some. So not only was the food great but the service was the best I've ever had in my life! I counted today and I have 13 mosquito bites but it would have been far worse if he hadn't been so awesome :) The mango margaritas were great, the chicka chicka boom boom is always my spicy favorite and this location has phenomenal service. read more

I was going there with my pal Derek and suddenly we are greeted with this depressed looking guy. I order the cheese enchilada and a margarita and he glares at me like I was some idiot and then rolls his eyes. Umm, rude! I ask him if there's anything wrong and he gives another rude look. Then storms away. An HOUR later we get our cold, wrong ordered food dropped on our table by some waiter. "Anything else your majesty?" He says sarcastically. Enough, I ask for another waiter. He rolls his eyes AGAIN. Without even responding. We decided we had enough and headed out and I could hear him mumble "ass holes". I have always loved eating at chuys. They have great tasting tex mex, not Mexican food people!. Usually they are ridiculous when it comes to getting a table. Always so crazy crowded. We have tried different things to get our chuys. 1. Go during happy hour, but order to go and still enjoy the free queso and chips while waiting. 2. In super hurry, call in the to go order and go to their pick up area. It is awesome. They come to the car and bring your food to you. Never have to leave the car, especially with kids in the car. 3. Eat at the bar since they do serve all the appetizers and salad there. And again, during happy hour get the chips/dips on. And then today....wow....we got a table on a Friday night. That deserves 5 stars right there. 4. Get to chuys at 5 pm exact and you can get a table with little to no wait. You can still walk to bar area and get the free queso and bring it to your table. Service rocked by our waitress today. But the only down fall they had was they ran out of the little dip bowls, so we had to wait to get a bowl of the creamy "ridiculously addictive" jalapeño dip. I'm telling you, they must put some crack in that thing to make it taste so insanely good. The fresco salsa today was insanely spicy today too. Hurt going in and I don't want to think about the aftermath. We ordered beef fajitas, which always has a great amount of grilled onions. The chuychanga, always a favorite of ours. And of course we don't get a sauce, but rather dip it in the creamy jalapeño sauce instead. AWESOME! And the little guy loved the Mac n cheese with his 3 tacos. I love Chuy's--food is always delicious and fresh, and I'll keep going there, but not at this location. I didn't mind the hour long wait, but our server was very rushed, harried, unfriendly, and not attentive at all. It took 15 minutes after we sat down for her to take our drink orders and bring chips, we had to ask another server to refill our water, and our server never cracked a smile or made any attempt at conversation with us--very unusual for Chuy's! The atmosphere was also so loud, we had to yell to hear each other talk. Looking forward to the opening of the new Chuy's in Cedar Park! read more

I was very upset about the experience at this restaurant! My wife had family from out of town here so to speed things up I placed ya on the waiting list online. Online advised it would be 25-35 minutes so I thought it would be fine since we were on our way. The bad part of all of this is two things 1- the online process didn't mention anything about inside or outside. So after waiting about 45 minutes we were forced outside or wait another 35 minutes for an indoor table. 2-there was so many flies and mosquitos that eating comfortably was not an option! For the love of any remaining taste buds you hold dear, avoid the Hatch chiles. They sneak into all kinds of dishes (like the vegetarian tacos, ugh) and require you to pay an extra fee for some damn sour cream just to be able to form words again. People in Austin rant and rave about Chuy's so we finally tried it out. It's a cool atmosphere (and feels very "Austin"). The service was good, the food was reasonable. DO NOT GO HERE IF U HAVE A PARTY OF MORE THAN 4. We were told to call beforehand and they would have our table ready in 25 minutes. After watching other parties being seated for 1 1/2 hours, and repeatedly going up to check on our spot in line to only be told 20 minutes over and over again, or we can't force the current table to leave so we can use the tables for large parties, etc., we finally left and went to outback and had the BEST SERVICE and MEAL without any delay. I will never go to this chaotic, and i feel discriminating, restaurant again. They were plain rude to us. They sat people in the large party tables rather than setting the tables up for us even tho we were there first. They ignored our inquiries, etc. They cared less about serving us. read more

I like this Chuy's. It's not as funky as the Barton Springs one, but it still has a fun, laid-back atmosphere. The wait can be really, really long on weekend nights, and the parking situation is horrific. But, the awesome Tex-Mex makes up for it. read more

The food was very, very salty, and the service was EXTREMELY rushed. I was still eating my food when the server whisked away my boyfriend's plate and dropped the check on our table. Rude! In Austin do as Austin'ers and get some TexMex. Supposedly Chuy's is the best. Someone told me this was the original TexMex chain. I went all out and got the #1 combo plate so I could taste it all. It was pretty good, I must say. It was pretty decent for a chain, good flavors... Paid a visit here during happy hour with some coworkers and it was extremely packed and very popular that evening. It was a little cramped with the tables being a little too close together for comfort. I enjoyed the margarita special and nibbled on the chips and salsa.
