We have been using Chuy's to cater employee lunches for years. We always order the Mamacita fajita bar for about 50 people. The servings are a bit larger than other places, which is great for our very hungry office. The few cons are that they give you way too many chips, and they don't mix up the fajita platters. The onions and peppers are always way down at the bottom of the pan, and usually the pan is so full of meat and veggies that it's hard to mix up. read more

I have to admit, this place grew on me. This is my favorite Tex-Mex place and the creamy jalapeño dip is my crack! I have been to four different Chuy's. The one on 183 is closest to us and our usual go-to. We love the original one, but sometimes it can be a little difficult to get in/out of. The one in Nashville? Ooooh, happy hour chips, salsa, queso, beans, you name it...all you can eat, and you get it yourself out of the back of an old car in the bar. Top shelf margaritas are tasty and potent. Watch out for the kids who come and take up the outdoor tables while never ordering anything. They're just eating the free chips and dips. They don't even leave a tip! I feel for the wait staff here. I sat outside which was nice. My server was really sweet; a little overwhelmed at first so service was a little slow but it got better. I love chicken tortilla soup so I was excited to order it but it wasn't anything special....it tasted like chicken noodle soup with some tortilla strips in it...wouldn't recommend. The guacamole wasn't any good: it was more like puréed avocado with a couple of pieces of tomato in it. I would have liked to see more of the salsa they say is mixed in so you could get tomatoes and spices and I'd like less mashed avocados and more pieces left. The enchilada was very good though. On thursday lunch, get the Macho Burrito. Trust me. Its the only time you can get it. You'll thank me. Most other times I either go for the Chicken Burrito + deluxe tomatillo sauce, or the steak burrito + hatch green chili sauce. both are excellent. I admit it...the only reason I would occasionally pick this Tex Mex over my fav Pappasitos is that pastel green bowl of heaven that comes out first thing..The Jalapeno Ranch Dip! Had this great server -- I forget his name...looks like a surfer dude, super nice, uber friendly, married, kids...he was great...sat down with us as we were teasing one another and involved him in our friendly banter. It's Chuy's...it was good... what matters is the fun we had...he introduced us to a new drink, which we enjoyed, and gave us extra sauces on the side so we could try our burritos with them and choose a fav... I have been going to this location for 10+ years and it's predictably great, in my opinion. The major downside is the long wait times, but the last few times we have gone, we have opted to sit on the patio/courtyard where they only serve appetizers and drinks, and there has been no wait. It's also a great option if you have young kids because they are not confined indoors, and they can run around exploring! This location is very family friendly. The prices are reasonable and the food has always come out quickly. It's definitely one of our regular places! Just know that if you go during normal meal times, there will almost certainly be a wait. read more

Really disappointed with our service tonight. We ordered fajitas for curbside pickup (positive note: the person we ordered with was awesome, maybe Jamie?) Got home to realize that they forgot to include our beans, rice, and extra tortillas. Totally disappointing being that we live 15 minutes away and would now have an additional 30 minutes of driving. My husband left to pick up the order and I called the restaurant to let them know what happened and we would be coming back to pick up the missing items. Called back and spoke to the manager and got an apology (though, no offer to make it right since we were inconvenienced). Husband showed back up and texted the restaurant that he was there to get our missing items. He waited for 10 minutes, Until I called the restaurant to let them know he was there and to ask if someone could please bring out the missing items as we had already been waiting long enough. He then gets a text asking "what items were missing?" So after letting them know 4 times (3 calls + 1 text) they still didn't know what we were missing??! Finally someone brought out the missing items. A final call to the manager was left unanswered. And now my husband is home an hour later and the food is cold. read more

Another branch of the Tex-Mex institution that is Chuy's. I usually head straight here once I'm in Austin. We immediately started with queso to eat with the amazingly crisp freshly fried tortilla chips and the spicy salsa that come in unlimited quantities. There was also a rather bizarre bowl of ranch dressing that I have never seen before, but we ignored it after a taste. Between our combo plates, there were crispy beef tacos, chicken flautas, a chicken chalupa, cheese enchiladas, beef enchiladas and a chicken enchilada with green chile sauce. Mexican rice and refried beans also came on every plate - my lunch was so large it actually came on two plates! I love Chuy's. There Jalapeno Ranch is what I dream of at night. I could drink that stuff. It's always busy, so I find it best to come on off hours. I love there tacos and Carne Guisada, very tasty. I came to Austin for 4 days before I moved here and ate at Chuy's 3 times. Chicken/steak fajitas could be shared by 2 people with the free chips & salsa. Awesome margaritas. You'll wait for a little bit to get in here, particularly on a weekend. HOWEVER, the host staff does a great job of managing the wait, and they are usually accurate with their time predictions. Once you're seated, the staff is great and food comes pretty quickly. The patio here is awesome (when it's nice out) and don't forget the nacho car on weeknights during happy hour. As always, the tex mex is solid. Maybe not life changing, but delicious and consistent. The creamy jalapeno, queso, and green chile rice are all top notch in my book. OMG OMG OMG. I'm Mexican-American and have never really appreciated Tex-Mex food ... until now. OMG. We ordered the Mucho Burrito and an enchilada plate. All of us 3 were happy adults. The chips are served with a creamy jalapeño dip that is to LIVE for. EVERYTHING WAS PERFECT including our server John. Attentive but not overly so, took good care of us. The Mexican Martini's went down really easily too. The wait was about an hour so come expecting to order a drink, chill and chat. And the Tres Leches dessert was absolutely sinfully delicious. If you're looking to place a to-go order from this location - DON'T. I have called in a few orders just within this year to-go about 20 minutes before arriving to pick up and have had to wait for almost an hour each time. They are SO disorganized with their to-go department, they almost always get the order wrong, and there is absolutely no structure. After waitng for an hour - I wasn't even offered a drink, I wasn't checked on, they kept telling me my order was being bag (clearly it wasn't) and they did nothing to show they cared about my service. My family and I are locals and we come here at least twice a month. It has a family friendly atmosphere with witty t-shirts. They have the best queso we've ever tasted! Almost anything you order there is delicious and truly authentic. Highly recommend the chile rellanos and creamy jalapeño. The kids also love their Mac and cheese and cheese enchiladas. Each room in the restaurant is decorated with things like hub caps or paintings. They have a car trunk that is filled with containers of salsa, meat, cheese, chips ( and queso only during happy hour) to make your own nachos. Be prepared to wait if you get there around dinner time though. read more
