I hate that I'm writing this review during the COVID-19 crisis, but I can't ignore eating bad food despite the circumstances. This is also another one of my, "I keep giving ____ (restaurant name) second and third chances," and ultimately being disappointed every single time. At least they are consistent. Took this straight from their YELP page: "About the Business At Chuy's, we don't take anything seriously, except our food!" In my opinion, they don't take their food seriously either. Chuys, to me, is over priced, under-delivered tasteless Tex-Mex cuisine. I'm almost tempted to not even use the word cuisine here. I am limited to what I love at Tex-Mex restaurants, I'll give you that. I usually stick to what I know and order the same item despite which Tex-Mex restaurant I choose to dine, however, you can't neglect quality and freshness in times like this!...You have to be on top of it, on your A-game to keep your customers coming back...unfortunately, Chuy's always fails to deliver. It's a Sunday night, my fiance and I are starving and #hangry, and I don't want to order Chipotle, but still want something Tex-Mex, and I remember there was a Chuy's nearby. Soooo...I decided to cave, and order from them through DoorDash. We both order their "custom" enchiladas, which really their choice of enchilada sauces are what make them "custom." I ordered the tomatillo, and he ordered the ranchero. Let me tell ya, it wasn't "love at first bite." My chicken was flavorless, and dry. Then they skimped out on the cheese...barely sprinkling anything on top of the enchiladas and just dousing it with their tomatillo sauce. Beans are not homemade (in house), and rice was tasteless as well...so bland. It felt like we were eating cafeteria food, honestly. The ranchero sauce was too salty, and the tomatillo sauce was too sour. Oh...and what I really wanted was some queso, but I wasn't going to pay $8 for a "SMALL" order of queso...that's just ridiculous...when has queso been given an inflation??...really, c'mon guys. This is why those food trucks still stay alive. Disappointed at most, I'll probably wait another several years, or another decade before I order/dine at Chuy's. PSA: I'm not a fan of fajitas, and I know many tex-mex restaurants in the HOU area are known their "fajitas," which boosts their popularity. Chuy's is decent and I would go back, but I wouldn't go out of my way to go back. On the plus side, there are lots of things to look at (great for kids) and the service has always been amazing. The food is lackluster but I seem to be the odd one out. My sister is obsessed with Chuy's and doesn't have a location close by where she lives in Savannah, GA so whenever she's here she makes me go once or twice. I've been here twice now and had the same waitress both times (what are the odds?!) I'm sad I didn't get her name, so I could give a shoutout. The 2nd time I came was during HH (yay). They have a decent happy hour, which includes both drinks and food. The inside is colorful, funky and fun, and the drinks are pretty and good. I LOVE their green sauce - I can literally just eat that while the people with me eat real food hahah. The service here at this location used to be really good, so I'm not sure what happened. There were very few patrons inside this establishment, yet it took us forever to be served. Waited probably 10 mins just flour the chips and salsa. The waitress was nice and the food was good, but everything was so slow. Ah. My, by a huge margin, favorite salsa at a Mexican restaurant. Well, kinda Mexican restaurant. They embrace the Mexican theme but offer some dishes that aren't exactly Mexican in nature. But who cares. It's delicious. They have a yearly hatch chili menu. And this is the reason I come here so much during hatch season. I'm from Colorado and could get fresh roasted hatch from the store and this really adds some nostalgia for me. I haven't had a bad dish here. Some folks or shills will say this. But honestly. It wasn't worth the wait, I sat at the restaurant and could not figure out why my food was cold when it was brought out. Not Fresh, Not a fun dining experience. Leave it! Wow! 4 minutes after being seated and still no one bringing chips and salsa, no ons taking drink orders or acknowledging me even being there. It's not incredibly busy as there are MANY empty tables and booths. At the 5 minute mark someone flew by and said "be right with you"..... and another minute goes by.... And another.... Original review: We ordered delivery through the restaurant's website and they use doordash to deliver it. Usually, not a problem, except this time our order was missing our $8.50 queso. I called the restaurant and spoke with a "manager" who didn't even offer an apology and told me that I'd have to get the refund through doordash... even though the order was through the restaurant's website and their restaurant screwed up the order, I now have to call a third party to request a refund. Update: The manager (Darrell) called and apologized for any confusion and refunded us for the queso (which he was able to do because we ordered on the Chuy's website) and was very kind! Great place to dine in during happy hour! I've eaten here before but only take out, and after today dining in will be all I come here for. I sat in the bar area and it was great with the windows how bright and open it was. After reviewing the happy hour menu I talked with a few people at the bar and found out there was a nacho station that was free during happy hour. I thought that was amazing because I didn't come in for much. I ordered a half order of the tex mex enchiladas and added chicken it was just enough to eat and take a little bit home. The green guacamole/ salsa, whatever that delicious sauce is, is what made me come in for happy hour. I love Chuy's. They usually have great atmosphere and food! I saw this new location and while it's not close to my house, it isn't too far. If there were one near my house, I'd be eating there all the time! Great burritos and tasty sauces. I love the chimichanga. Nice happy hour with nacho bar in the back of an old 'car'. This new location seemed so small from the outside. I ate in the bar for happy hour, so I didn't really check out the dining room. This was my first time at Chuy's, I came here with my friend for her birthday celebration. Like many restaurants in Houston, the food was exceptionally delicious. We were served starter chips with salsa and Chuy's "creamy jalapeño" dip - would highly recommend. In addition to this we also ordered queso, which was great. I ordered the Chile Rellanos stuffed with oven roasted chicken and cheese, drizzled with the creamy jalapeño dip. It was served with a side of refried beans, rice, lettuce, pico, and jalapeños. Our food was delivered very quickly, even though the restaurant seemed busy for a Wednesday night. I tried the sangria and the Piña Colada. My friend and I ordered the Piña Colada at the same time; when we tried it, we agreed there was too much orange juice in it and it was pretty watered down. I was a server in a restaurant for three years so I usually try and suck it up when I dislike my order because I understand that mistakes happen. I did end up sending the drink back along with my friends, and the second Piña Colada we both received was much better! Oh I didn't even tell you about the food?! Well I got the -#6 it comes with a taco enchilada and chalupa that's basically a tostada where I'm from. The enchilada was super good it was cheese and it had this thicker red sauce almost like a mole it was very delicious, I suspect heartburn will be visiting tonight. The crunchy taco was good too, the chalupa (tostada) didn't need refried beans on it since they serve it already with your meal, kinda redundant, but good it needed like a sour cream or some type of creamy sauce. Didn't really enjoy the service nor the food so much. Had the server by the name of Jess, and when asked what sort of mixer they used for the michiladas, she stated "zig-zags". I politely asked if she meant "zing-zang"? She responded "zig-zag, zing-sang, same thing". Umm... no not really. Food was okay, nothing spectacular. Took the family to eat there this past Saturday. I don't remember the food being so spicy at other Chuys locations. Everything on my plate was too spicy, including the rice and the charro beans. We like spicy, but this food was overly spicy. Also, they bring you one tiny bowl of salsa and one small bowl of chips for a group of four. It seemed kind of stingy for such a well-known restaurant. Nowadays, most Mexican restaurant provide salsa individually for each person. While waiting for a table, I saw an elderly couple leaving the restaurant give the hostess some advice about seating people with physical disabilities. As soon as the people left, she turned around and rolled her eyes and made a face at another staff member. I felt like it was unprofessional and flat out disrespectful. I'm not a big fan of the revisions to the original Chuy's menu. The tortilla soup I've been ordering at Chuy's on Barton Springs in Austin for the last forty years was served differently. The tortilla strips, avocado slices and cheese were on the side. Tonight however, they were already added to the soup. So, the whole dish was soggy upon arrival at the table. Then later I seen a couple ask about a reservation and they faked looking at their tablet just to deny the couple. This made me curious. Awful! My first time to any Chuy's Tomball Pkwy. Hostess wasn't pleasant, waitress was great, bar tender w/glasses & ponytail unprofessional and last but not least food a disgrace! The manager was understanding and compromising but still didn't make up for what was in my food. I suggest they check their lettuce before serving. Normally I don't write reviews but I thought this time I had to say something about the service and sitting at the (empty) bar .The bartender Kathy with glasses seemed to be in a bad mood when I walked in so I tried to lighten up the mood and make a little conversation. My wife and I ordered a couple of drinks 3 minutes prior to happy hour and were charged full price. I politely asked if we could get Happy hour prices and she didn't respond she just called the manager with a bad attitude. (sorry to bother you) We didn't like the attitude after that and left after just one drink. My first time at Chuy's but what a fun experience! The walls were covered with random paintings and other eccentric decorations, as well as casual dining area. A great place to take the family for dinner or even date night. Chips, salsa & this delicious jalapeño crema sauce was delivered to our table and was refilled often. Our waitress was training someone (she did great) so it took a little longer to order but it was fine, we weren't in a rush. Our food came out quickly & they checked back on us a few times. They sell t-shirts and had a 2/$22 sale so i picked up a couple to take back to NY with me. I love quirky stuff like that! My wife and I went to the Chuy's over in Humble week before last who does OK but they're still on the Covid menu, very limited. Yesterday on Father's Day there were five of us and my mother likes the taco shell taco salad so we went to theChuy's on 249 closer to her house and once again they still are on the Covid menu very limited no shell. The good part was there was no wait the restaurant only was about 50% all the others we passed head lines out the door, we won't be going back until the full menu is back.
