I was so excited to be back in San Antonio and have dinner at Chuy's during my last visit. My first taste of Chuy's was at the original in Austin - it was unbelievably great! This time, I am sad to say the experience was not the same. The pina colada was too sweet and did not have enough coconut. My order was not completed in the kitchen - I only had an appetizer. After seeing that my two friends had received their entrees, I asked the waiter about my order. When he checked the kitchen, they did not cook it. At that point in time, I was just so upset I told him I didn't want my entree anymore. Even the salsa tasted different from the other 2 times I've been to Chuy's. On a positive note, we were seated promptly and the waiter had a good attitude. If I return, I'll most likely go to the one in Austin. read more

Decided to try this chain restaurant - on a Tuesday night there was no wait and service was swift. Chips and salsa brought to the table with our drinks were lovely - chips were warm and salsa was hot. Husband got the enchiladas with a red chili sauce and rice and beans. The rice and the sauce were very heavy on the chili powder. His plate was not typical Tex Mex, which is what I think they are going for & what we expected. My plate was great, albeit simple - the crispy beef taco was perfectly seasoned with very fresh lettuce & tomato, and the queso & guacamole on the side was a generous serving & yummy. Loved my plate. Not sure if we will be back with so many Tex Mex choices in SA. read more

I have reviewed the food before and somethings are good, a few things are great, and most things are average ... to my liking ... but I am writing this post for the following observations: Maximum Five Star score for these Five things: 1. Awesome chicken tortilla soup. You can taste the freshness of all the ingredients from the cut-off-the-cob corn, the delicate chicken breast, to the roasted peppers. 2. Flavorful Queso with Beef (It is the second item under appetizers, but I forget the name). For just a few cents extra, they pile in fresh guacamole, seasoned ground beef, and pico de gallo. Yum. 3. Many of the staff are just the best ... friendly, helpful, and accommodating. 4. In addition to the typical free tortilla chips and salsa common to many TexMex restaurants, here you can watch them making flour, yellow corn, and blue corn tortillas in the windowed booth. The bonus ... you can eat as many as you want for free! Or at least, they have never charge me for any. 5. Five-punches-eat-free card. Most other restaurants are 8 or more. Great deal if you are a repeat tex-mex offender, lol. read more

Ordering the chicka chicka boom boom enchiladas is humiliating because you have to say chicka chicka boom boom, but man are they tasty.

Can you give negative stars? This restaurant is a disgrace to the chain. Dirty was the top problem. Good was disgusting and then the bathrooms had a sewer gas issue. Do not go! My PSA for the day. We have ordered the family fajita meal several times and have enjoyed it. We have even recommended it to family and friends that had never tried Chuy's. This afternoon we ordered on line and did curbside pick up as we usually do. It was at 4:54 and was to have been ready for pick up at 4:59. I got there at 4:55 and immediately notified them of my arrival. The girl I spoke to said it would be right out. 25 minutes passed an a waiter came by and asked my name. He said it would be the next order out. I see two more orders go out to other people waiting. By now it is 5:25. Finally my order came out. I asked to speak to the manager. A man named Pablo came out and I explained the situation. He said it was unacceptable and he asked for my recipient and offered a partial refund of my order. He said he would be right back. Ten minutes later and with a hungry family at home I decided to just leave. The waiter was outside as I was leaving and asked to tell Pablo I got tired of waiting. Didn't phase him a bit, he just nodded Usually our order is on point, packaged well and warm when we get home. Unfortunately this time it wasn't. Do not go to this location ( San Antonio I-10W) for pickup during the stay at home order! It was completely ridiculous the way this Chuy's location was operating. Their phone lines were down although you could still order online. When you arrive and pull into a spot the signs read to "please stay in your car and text this # to notify us you are here," although there were 15-20 people huddled at the entrance of the restaurant waiting for their orders (barely even following social distancing guidelines and many did NOT have masks). I was very confused and after waiting 30 minutes past my pick up time I finally went up to the entrance to see why it was taking SO long to pick up an order that didn't even have an entree! I had only ordered side items that needed little to NO cook time. When I was finally spoken to by a manager, he proceeded to then tell me their phone lines were down but no one felt the need to come notify any of the people FOLLOWING THE DIRECTION OF THE SIGNS PROVIDED just sitting in their cars. I am VERY disappointed with how this situation was handled by this Chuy's. I would NOT recommend this restaurant for pick up! Try a local restaurant instead! read more

My experience here was so so. Service was OK food was OK but they did not have the item on the menu that I went there for. Chile Rellenos are my very favorite thing in the world and I would travel for miles to make a special trip to Chuys for these. While I understand that the menu had to change for to-go reasons during Covid, at what point does it return to normal? I would love to be able to walk into a Chuys and get these again. read more

We were at Chuy's yesterday and I must say everything was great. Our server, Alex (Hi Alex!) was really friendly and fast. The food was soooo delicious. The only thing was the waiting time (20 minutes, no sitting area) which I think for a restaurant with such delicious food and reasonable price is normal. So, I'm giving these stars for Alex (and even the guy who was being trained that day, wearing glasses and black shirt) and the delicious food. Thank you! read more

Very good. Love the variety of sauces and the drinks are great. Nice atmosphere, but very busy, expect a wait on Thursday through Sunday in the afternoons into the evening. Service can be hit or miss sometimes, they are either great or not great no in between on waitstaff. Food is great. Some of the better Tex mex for sure in the city. Mediocre chain, has a good ranch salsa but the chips are cold and not homemade. The guacamole is not the best as they use a lot of lettuce as a filler and doesn't have much flavor. The chicken salad was alright but the dressing was too thick and didn't have a good flavor. Service was really slow so wouldn't recommend going if in a rush. I usually have a good time at all other Chuy's locations, but this one had terrible service. Everytime I go to this one the waiters try to sneak in two dollars into my entree order and think that I won't notice because I am a college student and they think Ill be oblivious to their bs. The interior was lively, colorful and loud. It's family friendly. Our waitress was efficient and friendly. The chips were very good. Salsa was fresh with a little heat. The jalapeño dressing was outstanding! This was my favorite item. I got the hatch green chile tacos. The beef was braised in green chile, topped with onions and cilantro and a side of green chiles. Food is always on point. I chose this restaurant to dine with family from out of town. I'm sure they left with a bad taste in their mouth because of the waiter. It only take one bad act to spoil the whole night. Our waiter couldn't for some reason, keep up with the checks. We all paid with cash and I guess he lost track of trying to return the changes. Most people probably would have walked out and left him with a big tip. But, because, the were on expense account and need their receipts, they stayed patiently waiting. So we asked and he had misplaced the money in the wrong pocket. They were amazed at not receiving their coin change back as well. I replied, yes that happens all the time around here, I call it a upcharge for paying in cash. The moral of this story is, I eat here a lot. Great service and the food wasn't bad at all. I had a enchilada and you have your choice of sauce. I had ranchero which is the red sauce. They have ground sirloin which has great flavor. I've tried so hard to find a Mexican food restaurant that has the kind of food I'm used to being from California. I think I may have found the spot. Great chips and salsa ! They also have a happy hour I highly recommend. You can get chips , salsa, ground sirloin and melted cheese. I put the cheese with the ground sirloin , that was a tasty combo. We were out grocery shopping and decided to stop by for lunch so we didn't go in the store starving. Found out they have a sweet discount for law enforcement and military by our waitress volunteering the info! Everyone was decked out in their Halloween gear since that's about when our visit occurred. Super peppy environment and they were very busy. That didn't slow down our service or our food coming out. Waiter was really nice and had lots of recommendations. He brought out a couple of salsas and some ranch dip for our chips. We opted for fajitas and man oh man! It was delicious! I usually skip fajitas in a restaurant because the Asada always seems to be tough! Definitely not the case here! It comes with fresh tortillas, sour cream, guac and pico. They even brought butter out for the warm tortillas! So good! We got the queso and it wasn't my favorite, but it was still pretty good. Orders a side of Spanish rice and it hit the spot. My husband and I went to Chuy's on I-10 in San Antonio last night. Hoped to get in early as Friday night is always busy. We were seated in 15 minutes, which wasn't bad because those coming in after us had a much longer wait. Our waitress came and brought chips but no salsa. She said there was a "bowl shortage" and she'd have to look for one. We ordered at that time, chicken fajitas for two, plus a beer and water. I also asked for some creamy jalapeño sauce instead of the regular salsa. By the time she came back with the water and creamy jalapeño sauce (she also brought regular salsa), we had eaten most of the chips. She refilled the chips and said my Dos Equis was on it's way. Another waitress brought it later. The fajitas came shortly afterwards. They were great as usual. I don't have a problem with the food at Chuy's. It is always consistent and good. But when they are slammed with business, I think the wait staff has their hands full and sometimes things fall through the cracks. Our waitress was very nice and pleasant, but a little harried. Try to go early or not during peak times, if you'd like a little more relaxed dinner. And it's always very loud, so be prepared. read more

We called to reserve table and we're told no reservations were needed. We get there the host says 25-30 minute wait. My group of 12 wait patiently she said my phone would receive a text when my table was ready. long story short 1hr and 10 minutes pass by this time is 7:40 we arriced at 6:20 or so. We finally get seated our drinks did not arrive till 8:45 no lie. Over an hour for some sweat tea and soda. We order our food and the food was not good at all green enchiladas had no seasoning in chicken it was not shredded chicken just chunks of chicken in the enchilada. The server who help had no table ettique she handed the hot plates to us instead of placing on the table in a proper way to avoid burning or crossing your face with a plate. I ordered shrimp tacos nothing exciting about it cold tacos with a version of a tortilla that was not even heated. Nachos were nothing great. Food was bad but service was worst. Our waitress Never came back to refill drinks. Then to top it off I go to the ladies room and there is a roach in the restroom. There was some type of chalk all over floor and toilet paper. The restaurant needs a good cleaning and staff needs proper training. I feel we were treated differently because of our ethnicity. The location is full of white people and we were one of the few Hispanics at this location. I will never again come to this place. read more

The two stars are for the creamy ranch because that's the only thing good about this place! The food is ok- I've never understood all the hype despite trying multiple dishes. The service is never great, but on my last visit it was horrible. Despite ordering numerous drinks, the waitress never came to get our meal orders (we flagged down another waitress) and we had to walk up to the bar to order more drinks, including water for me. Just finished eating at Chuy's and met my friend there who is of a darker skin tone. They told them a party was eating near the bar and that we could not sit there. Serviced was not even decent, and which made the whole experience very poor. After I payed, I had gone to the restroom and so did my friend. On my way out I noticed there were other tables not occupied by the party and my friend noted that too, and that the people sitting there where all white. We did not get happy hour price drinks since we were not at the bar and there were open seats for other guest not in the party. The reason we could not sit there like I said was because of a party was occupying the whole bar which is not true. I don't know for certain if we were not allowed to sit by the bar because of my friends skin tone but sure seemed like the reason why. I tried this place 4 times not giving every try a fresh start but fails to disappoint every time for various reasons. Would not recommend eating here and save the wait and go to another restaurant. Probably one of my favorite Mexican restaurants in Texas, their queso is to die for, my favorite items to eat here are the chuychanga, and the enchiladas. The chicka boom boom sauce is really good, on a lot of their food items. Their margaritas are also really good too, I love that they have a free nacho bar on weekdays too. My boyfriend loves their enchiladas with the boom boom sauce on it, he cleans his plate every time. The rice and beans also make the plate taste just as good, my next visit I would like to try their tacos. Overall a great place to eat read more
