Chuy's was fantastic before COVID, and it's quickly returning to being my go-to for great Tex-Mex food. This crazy mild late June weather makes their patio our late afternoon spot for an early dinner. Their Southwestern enchilada plate topped with a fried egg and spicy green chili sauce is my favorite dish. My wife likes their Tex-Mex enchilada plate. The service is excellent, and their music sets a party mood. Chuy's is a Mexican restaurant located at 1604 and 281. This place is great for friends and the family. Although a bit on the pricey side you'll find their portions are very large and tasty! Their selection of different kinds of salsa is delicious. Try to sample them all and don't forget the hatch sauce! Not a fancy restaurant but then again not a place to grab a quick bite to eat. I love Chuy's. Since I'm from Austin, this place is always a go-to location for great food, drinks and fun in any city. I'm glad San Antonio has one near the city. The service is always great, food is wonderful and there is usually plenty of parking. We pay about $35-40 per meal for two of us. Also, they always tolerate us feeding our daughter first too and then ordering 30 minutes after that is complete. Oh, and you must get the tres leches. Make sure you tell your waiter at the beginning of your meal so they know to save some for you. It goes fast. Good for late night. read more

I was eating at this location which I have for years! I have always loved chuys until this past time I was here. The food was disgusting which it is usually good. I was eating my rice and bit down on something hard. There were literally staples in my food! This could of been horrible if I were to swallow them. Not to mention there were bugs flying everywhere and one of them was floating in our salsa. I brought this to management attention and she comped our whole meal but still! We used to frequent this restaurant/bar when it was on Sunset in San Antonio. It has since moved out north of 410 for a larger venue. We always make it a point to eat here when we are in town. Still ABSOLUTELY LOVE their spicy jalapeno ranch sauce/dip!! I can live on it and their light, tasty tortilla chips! I placed my order through grubhub at about 2 p.m. to be delivered at 5:45 p.m. At about 6:45, I contacted grubhub who said the food wasn't ready. Upon calling Chuy's, the order hadn't even been started. They claimed they got slammed at about 4, even though I'm not sure what that has to do with an order placed clear in advance and when you're only supposed to be at 25% capacity anyways. There also is clearly an issue with ethics here because one employee pretended to be the manager. Once he realized he couldn't handle the issue, he got the real manager, who seemed to think it was okay for the employee to impersonate him with guests. I guess phone calls, much like orders placed in advance, aren't worth his or his establishment's time. read more

Great food, large portions, fun atmosphere, and friendly service. Food: I got a grilled chicken plate that came with drunken beans and rice. The chicken was juicy and spiced to perfection. Surprised on Friday that we could park and be seated immediately. Chips and creamy jalapeño dressing/dip, best there is. Our frozen margaritas were completely melted. Drank a little but if you like FROZEN, melted doesn't do it. Server came so we asked if she could get us frozen. Came back, set down another and said she watched and that's the best it is. We left them and they did not offer to take them off the bill. My friends plates came out piping hot. The Mexi-Cobb salad is not what it used to be. Price went up but bowl is smaller round bowl and not much beyond the greens. The delicious tortilla station is gone and no tortillas served with the meals. The happy hour station with chips, salsa, cheese is gone. I get it, no one wants to work to keep it filled. As we were leaving, Tables were empty, people were waiting but I think they did not have staff to work those tables. First time and last time ever trying Chuy's. Friends and family raved about it, thought I would try it too. Chips and salsa are salty; sweet iced tea over boiled (yuck taste). Taco salad is okay, they just poured salad mix into a tortilla bowl. Guacamole went bad very quick at the table and it was salty, not good; chicken enchilada was unseasoned, cheese enchilada was meh. San Antonio has a lot of great Tex-Mex and Mexican restaurants, Chuy's is NOT one of them. read more

As a native Austinite, I grew up on Chuy's. It feels like home! There are some tried and true Go-to menu items like the Tex-mex salad combination, excellent tostadas and burritos. I also love the green chili festival. My reason for 3 stars at this San Antonio location is that the last 3 times we've visited, the host stand hardly greets us, then seats us at dirty tables! Found out they close at 10:00pm but I was calling around 9:50. They still graciously accepted my order and I was able to come pick it up around 10:10p. I arrived at Chuys in mid afternoon on a Saturday. There were 3 girls that greeted us at the front door dressed in what i beleive were "booty shorts". I thought i walked into a bar instead of a Family Restaurant. I thought it was a little strange but i went along with it anyway... We requested we sit outside on the patio. Now, getting to the patio from the front door seemed like a little maze. I had to squeeze in between tables and go around standing waitresses. We finally made it, and got a good spot under a tree. Our server was very very polite and suggested a couple items on the menu and on the drink menu. We ordered some Strawberry Margaritas and they were huge!!! They came out in a regular size Margarita glass (not one of those small dinky ones). I loved the chips and salsa!! PERFECT COMBO. but you also have to ask for a dipping side of their Jalopeno Ranch!! OMG!! Sooooooo tasty!!!!!!! I ordered a combination plate- with Chile Relleno, chix enchilada and a taco. The waiter said the Chili Relleno was a famous one and since I used to love them , I thought i would try it. It was delicious but i think there was something missing. Our waiter also suggested the Boom Boom sauce- which is not that great to me... It was just like a queso dip. Eh... I also asked for a medium (green) sauce to go with my Chili Relleno and it was very tasty. that was also a perfect combo. When finished, I wanted to eat soo much more but my stomach couldnt take it. I was full. My friend got the Crispy Taquitos i think and they were also very tasty. She got 6 of them suckers. It didnt seem like alot but she could barely finish her meal also. I stopped by for lunch one day and went straight to the bar. It was around 1pm but it was slow in there. I had the "Elvis green Chile fried chicken" with a fried egg on top .The chicken was awesome , it even had some potato chips on the top. I had to order the fried egg as an extra. The rice and beans by itself was average but the chicken made up for it. That hit the spot! I usually get hungry every couple of hours because of my high metabolism, but this meal kept me full for a good 5-6 hrs :-) In short service gets 3 stars , food -4 stars atmosphere and cleanliness - 2 stars read more

My wife and have gone to Chuy's many times for the past couple of years. The food is good and atmosphere is good as well. This particular location has undergone renovation to its restrooms several months ago. I have to say, a gas station restroom doesn't smell as bad. The smell of sewer gas is gross and it's been going on for months and months. All you have to do is walk down the hall and it hits you right in the face. Came here after a Sunday on the river with friends and the boyfriend for the first time and it was actually much better than we expected, our waitress was super friendly, the drinks were delivered fast and well priced I had the titos strawberry lemonade and it was great along with the queso and soft tacos which were pretty standard. Overall the service food and drinks were good, being a Sunday I know a couple of my friends got the daily special and everyone was happy with their plates. Only awkward thing was the shirt the waitress was wearing saying on it #chuysaf being adults we all had a good laugh but for younger kids being curious as to possible meanings of the shirt I definitely would not bring my child, it's just the little things, so we will definitely do to go and delivery. My fiance and his family have been going to Chuy's for years! They love Mexican and Tex-Mex food, and this is one of their number one choices in the country! At first, I wasn't sure what to expect because it is a Texas-based chain, and chains can be disappointing in general. I went for the first time tonight and was EXTREMELY IMPRESSED. When we arrived at around 7pm, the place was really busy! We had to wait for about 10 minutes to get a table, but there were plenty of places to sit or stand, and our wait was not long by any means. The food was absolutely delicious. We ordered a taco salad and the chicka-chicka boom-boom enchiladas, and ate an obscene amount of chips with the fresh and white salsas. The drinks tasted good and were pretty strong. We ordered a regular margarita and a skinny margarita! Also, the service was amazing. Our waitress, Phoebe was very busy with lots of customers, but remembered our order, was extremely kind, and went out of her way to ensure that our drinks and chips/salsa were always full. She even gave my fiance a to-go beverage. I highly recommend Chuy's! The food is some of the best Tex Mex I have ever had, the drinks are delicious and relatively strong, and the service is top notch. You will not be disappointed! read more

My family had the most amazing experience ordering take out from this Chuy's. This last Saturday evening, my grandmother had a massive stroke and and was being moved to my parents house by hospice in order to spend her last days in comfort. A bunch of my family members (20+) rushed down to San Antonio late Saturday night and we realized that we didn't have enough food to feed everyone. My sister frantically called Chuy's approximately 30min before closing and placed a massive order. When Chuy's realized why we were placing such a last minute order, they helped us out immensly. They threw in a bunch of extra food & drinks in with our order, wrote us the sweetest letter that the members of the staff signed. It meant more than I can express. No complaints here. Got the Southwest Enchiladas with the fried egg in top and it was amazing. The freshness with a hand made Blue Corn Tortilla made all the difference. Nothing compares to Hand made. I accompanied it with some flour tortillas as well and those were just as amazing. Being Hispanic, it's very hard to impress me with Mexican rice that's not made by family. This was the case. Don't get me wrong, it's good, but nothing compares to home cooked mexican rice. Wow! Worst experience ever. We have been here at least once every 2-3 months over the last 5 years. Today was unbelievable. We sat in the bar area and no one ever acknowledged us. We were here for over an hour. We got 2 drinks from the bar ourselves. We got our own salsa and chips. Manager and multiple servers ignored us. I watched 4 other tables get served. I am ordering pizza now to get something to eat on the way home. The mgr is a male with a beard. Lots of servers just goofing off. Mgr just chilling. Terrible experience. The first time we visited this location (weekday around 4-5pm) we were able to immediately be sat down and served. Service was a little lackluster and the food came out wrong (kitchen's fault, not servers). The second time we visited, there was obviously not enough staffing as they quoted us almost an hour wait time. This was around 6-7pm on a weekend so I understood the wait and when we were finally sat, we placed our order and when it came out, mine appeared to made incorrectly, because I ordered the same thing as the first visit and it looked vastly different. The young lady (not our server) that dropped off our food, assured me that the order was made correctly, but it looked exactly like what I have previously ordered that the kitchen had messed up on (it had to do with the topping).
