Overall very good, not sure I'd order again. For entree we ordered the half chicken and the homemade pasta bolognese. I wasn't too impressed with the homemade noodles since they were almost not cooked through and incredibly doughy. But the bolognese sauce was very good-- that really really shined. We also ordered the half chicken with pancetta/guanciale and that was well prepared. We also ordered tiramisu and it was truly delicious- that was the star of the dinner. They don't have cappuccinos apparently and after waiting a half hour, we cancelled out tiramisu order, so can't comment Hoon how that was unfortunately. In their menu they advertise a Hot N Dirty martini, basically a spicy dirty martini, with gorgonzola stuffed olives. The martini originally didn't come with the olives that they advertised so we asked for them. We wish we didn't. They were not good, not fresh, and we didn't take more than one bite of the olive. The martini wasn't that great either. For things that were good: the burrata, calamari, and caesar salad. I would get all of these things again if I ever decide to go again. My meal, I got the carbonara and unfortunately it is not as good as the pictures. I have a similar review to the BostonBestEats account that while the guanciale was cooked cripsy, the sauce was curdled and not creamy whatsoever, and I'd say my pasta was cooked TOO al dente. Our waiter was sweet but the girl who was refilling out waters and cleaning our plates absolutely HATED us for no reason and rolled her eyes every time she came over. Called the restaurant - the "hostess" tells me they called every one booked that evening and if they didn't call back to confirm in an hour they were canceled. WHAT IN THE HELL KIND OF POLICY IS THAT? I was literally in the air flying there for 5 hours. I was not able to answer some supposed text or call. I checked my phone for calls and texts. Nothing. No wonder they have a crappy yelp rating. Not sure why anyone recommends this place to begin with, they don't care about customers at all. And if management see this and blames it on weather - their apparently not able to look at a weather map. It was beautiful all night. True, there are many good places in the North End, and Ciao Roma is a solid choice: 4.5* ambiance, 4.5* service; 4.5* food. Last night was our 3rd visit to this restaurant over the past few years. It was the busiest we've seen it. It was loud and crowded but the classic Christmas music could be heard above the din of holiday laughter and conversation. Lively youthful vibe made us feel young again. We told the host we're celebrating our 21st wedding anniversary and he was genuinely happy for us. We didn't have reservations but he suggested we get a drink at the bar and a table would be ready in 20 minutes. The inattentive bartender is where the service lost 0.5*. Three feet away, he literally looked through us & talked to himself when we were the only people sitting at the lush, Carrera marble bar. He never greeted us or offered us a drink. Luckily, the host returned in about 5 minutes saying he had a romantic booth for us! Yay! 5 minutes after getting cosy in our comfy, leather, stuffed booth seats at the intimate, round marble table, the waitress brought us complimentary champagne toast to celebrate our anniversary. We were also served some rustic focaccia with a dish of olive oil, balsamic and chili flakes--yum! We ordered draft beers (Peroni & IPA--both tasty, perfect temperature and nicely poured) to go with the salumi plate and roasted artichoke appetizers. I was delighted that the smoky artichoke came with a delicious lemon-dressed arugula salad. A few pieces of tasty preserved lemon peel topped the dish. The 3 types of meats on the salumi plate were distinctly different and all tasty along with the spiced pear. The cheese was not my favorite but my partner liked it. For main course the server recommended the eggplant parmigiana as a house specialty. It's one of my favorite dishes but I rarely order it because it's difficult to find a good one. This eggplant parmigiana was PERFECT! Breading was very thin, mozzarella was just enough, and no oil in sight! Eggplant shined through, complimented by the perfect smooth tomato sauce. Furthermore, it was a good portion without being huge. I confess to nearly clearing my plate--it was delicious! My partner had the steak, which was very flavorful. The potatoes tossed with pesto were delicious. Broccoli rabe was tasty but stems were wooden. Everything was hot and served & cleared with friendly smiles from all the staff. They cooperated well together and all seemed happy. Without asking, they brought fresh silverware for the mains. We will return to Ciao Roma and recommend you try it. read more

Walked in without a reservation on a busy Saturday night Valentine's Day weekend and the staff was able to fit us in. Great music and really nice atmosphere downstairs. Made a reservation in April for June 11 for 6 people -- my brother and his wife were visiting from San Francisco and her sister and her boyfriend. When I made the reservation there was no option to select outside or inside. We arrived and were brought upstairs to a hot room with no air conditioning, there were tables by the window at least and we were refused those tables as well. I asked very nicely about sitting outside or another table and was told no. I explained we made these reservations almost 2 months in advance and was still refused. Our waitress was sweet and the arancini and bruschetta was good, pasta was mediocre at best.
