As a yelp elite reviewer, I always review with honesty and offer recommendations when there's a low score. On March 11, my family went to Cibolo restaurant. We ordered a mac & cheese kid's meal, ice cream sundae, mahi tacos, and the chicken tortilla soup. We waited an exorbitant amount of time-close to 40 minutes. During this time nothing was brought out, and our children were visibly hungry. A manager came over and apologized as well as the waitress, still nothing. Why not bring something for the kids? Bread? Chips? We ended up getting our food. It all tasted good but I will say it was overpriced. The mahi taco dinner did not come with any sides, which for the money was not an exceptional meal. The ice cream sundae also came out and had no whipped cream. We needed to flag down the wait staff and ask for the whip cream which was supposed to be on top. Desserts - 5.5/10 Most of the desserts were not that good however there were 2 that I enjoyed for their flavor and appealing appearance. There was one particular dessert that was not good. The s'mores dessert was very hard, as if it had been baked to the texture of a rock. Also the marshmallow topping on top of this dessert looked and tasted burnt. This did not change throughout the batch. Adult/Reg buffet - 4.5/10 Service at the buffet was good however the food was mediocre. The brisket was not seasoned and even though it said 13 hours smoked it did not have the smoky flavor, the turkey was ok, the creamed corn was a favorite, the sauce was good and it did make the food better which to me and my table was a plus, the ribs had flavor but they were missing spices and that nice smoky flavor. Lastly the mashed potatoes were not the best to me because the cheese in them just didn't taste right and the texture after you finished it was not the best(this is however my personal opinion so take it with a grain of salt). While I feel you have to take a hotel restaurant for what it's worth, calling this a good Tex-Mex restaurant would be a stretch. It 'worked' for the night we wanted at the hotel. Guacamole had very little, if any flavor, I actually found myself salting it to make it more edible. Queso was just fine. The shrimp and grits, were good, but the shrimp were quite tough. Burnt ends were the best option, as well as the biscuits served to start. If coming back to the hotel, I would certainly choose the sports bar for another meal rather than eating here. The food and ambience is Amazing! The server Mark could have been better - he looked like he didn't want to be there and with that never returned to refill our drinks nor check if we needed anything. Ahhhh. So great to return to this amazing resort. As soon as I checked in I went to Cibolo Moon for lunch and what I already knew would be a killer margarita. Roland was my bartender and he knows his way around a bar and he makes incredible drinks- really well balanced. Fish taco was perfectly cooked and homemade salsa! The spicy margarita with Casa Noble reposado. Heaven. Returned last night for yet another killer margarita & by the way the homemade salsa is worth checking out. What a lovely restaurant in this luxury resort! They are open for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. We ate here 3 times this week and tried the Gulf Crab Salad, Cheese Burger and they serve these biscuits with sugar and jalapeño strawberry jam, so good. The service is really good but be sure to ask for the biscuits in case they don't bring them. This hotel offers nice fun things to do so golfing, relaxing spas and they have a nice lazy river for swimming. They have a full Starbucks on site and several gift shops but be ready to spend almost $6 for a bottle of water...ouch. Overall, beautiful grounds and the inside has Chihuly looking glass on the ceilings by the escalators. Be sure to check out this hotel and restaurant when you are in the Hill Country. read more

Cibolo Moon is a beautiful restaurant. As soon you walk in, there is an open kitchen and has a very comfortable home feel. I came with co-workers and we ate in a private dining space. The set-up was beautiful and they had 3 wines ready for us to taste that they had on display. Upon seating, we had our own menus with different options selected and each course was delicious. I had the Filet Mignon and the meat was cooked medium. It was tender and delicious. They also brought out biscuits with strawberry jam in a small saucepan that was also very tasty. Dined here for breakfast twice and dinner once since I stayed at the JW Marriott for a 3 day weekend. The decor is modern and chic and there's the bar that stocks a large variety of specialty tequilas. We arrived early for breakfast BC we had a tee time at 8:30am and the breakfast buffet was in full swing. Included was a made to order omelette station that even contained brisket as a choice. In addition to regular buffet items, it included incredible sticky buns and jalapeno & cheese biscuits with condiments such as bomb strawberry jalapeno jam, Texas honey and a variety of specialty salsa. For dinner appetizer we tried the tequila shrimp with tortillas - yummy. I enjoyed the thick bone in ribeye steak with a huge loaded baked potato and sides of Mac & cheese & green beans & tomatoes. Everything was delicious. Of course dessert was on my radar and we selected the strawberry shortcake & side of blueberry ice cream. Needless to say, the dessert was nothing short of incredible! The service was spot on and friendly by the entire staff! BTW I kicked back outside after dinner on the patio around the fire pit and enjoyed a cigar and glass of cognac. We went here for a weekend get away, the food was excellent for a buffet. If you have small children, any children under the age of 4 eat free with an adult entree. We did the buffet for our selfs and our children. It did not seem like a lot of choices at first but everything choice was tasty, the kids could also choose from the adult buffet. Our kids took advantage of that when it came to dessert. My Final thought is yes it's a little pricey but it was well worth it and if you are staying at the hotel I would say the best option for a family, quick and easy. read more

After celebrating 18 years in the United States Armed Forces I decided to culminate my weekend with a tasty Brunch at the Beautiful JW Marriot's Cibolo Moon. The restaurant is located downstairs in the resort, so avoid the directions on Google Maps as you'll end up two miles out of your way down a lonely dirt road. I squeezed in right before 2:00 pm as the staff began putting food away. The floor manager greeted me and was very accommodating. She had the staff keep the omelette station open and had a waiter help me cart over plates of fruit, pastries, and waffles to my table. I was overwhelmed with the fruit, eggs, seasoned potatoes, meat selections, waffles, pancakes, crescents, muffins and cheese assortments. I went in with determination to eat a little of everything but three plates in I knew I was about to hit my tummy wall. The plate of watermelon continued to call my name as I talked my tummy into a few more bites. My server Jessica was outstanding, she kept my lemonade glass full and as she saw the button about to pop off my skirt politely offered me a to go box to stuff my remaining goodies into and offered a to go lemonade with homemade biscuits and jam. For a mere $24.95 and $5.00 to valet I'd say this brunch was worth every penny. After a thorough nap to let my food digest and a good gym workout my weekend ended on a high note. Came here for dinner and were seated immediately. The restaurant is located inside the Marriott hotel. They have a dinner buffet and a an a la carte menu. Two of my friends got the buffet and I got the chicken quesadilla appetizer. The appetizer was as big as a meal, and I had leftovers. They started us out with bread and jam which was amazing. Today is Valentine's Day, so of course our expectations were that it was going to be busy everywhere and patience will be required. We booked our reservation in advance and were very much looking for to an upscale dinning experience. The reservation was for 7:30PM but we arrived 30 minutes early anticipating traffic on that side of town. We checked in with the host and knew we would likely have to wait, so we went to the restaurant bar and grabbed a couple of cocktails. We immediately closed out because the host approached us to let us know our table was ready. It's about 7:15PM and 5 mins later our server takes our appetizer order. We ordered the chips and queso and they come about 10 mins later. When the server drops the appetizer off, we placed our order, which was 7:30PM. We were checked on 1 time by our server about 10 minutes after we received our appetizer. Everything was fine so far. Time goes by and while we were having great conversation then 45 minutes we start to wonder where our food and server was. Nobody came by to even tell us there was a delay so we found it extremely odd for a high end restaurant. About 15 minutes of noticing the long delay, the manager approached us and finally acknowledged the delay. The reason was because "A large party came in unexpectedly and the kitchen is backed up." You know how that makes me feel as a customer? It means that a large party walked in without a reservation and their order was being catered to, meanwhile ours wasn't as important, even though you were expecting us in advance. The manager checks the status of our ticket and we tell him what we ordered so he could identify the ticket. He goes to the kitchen and comes back to the table and tells us our ticket is next up so it should be very soon. Okay, good news. We wait about another 10 mins and the food runner comes out with the food, one of the entrees was wrong! What we ordered: a ribeye added a side of Mac and Cheese and the smoked chicken pasta. What showed up: a filet mignon, side of mac, and chicken smoked pasta. Okay, at this point we are 1 hour and 15 mins into this nightmare of a dinning experience only for them to get the order wrong. I'm not waiting about 15 mins for them to correct the order and my date is not going to eat without me, so his food would be cold by the time mine would be corrected. We respectfully asked the food runner to cancel the order all together. For the amount of time I waited, I knew nothing they brought out would make this nightmare better. I paid for the appetizer and nobody tried to make this terrible experience right. I would never recommend this place or go back. There are plenty of other high end restaurants in San Antonio that would have done so much better than this. On top of it, they marked my reservation on Open Table as a "No Show" trying to invalidate the fact that I wasted 1 hour and 15 minutes at this "restaurant". DO BETTER! The only good thing: The gracious valet representative asked us how our dinner was and after we told her what happened, she didn't make us pay, even after we insisted, because it's not her fault at all. read more

First time here for the NYE buffet at $85 per person. For the most part we sampled lots of items on the menu. I would say all items had a good taste but several items were slightly overcooked such as the prime rib and some of the shrimp. Other than that the food was delicious. Being NYE the service was slightly delayed but expected. I would bet the food there typically is prepared correctly but buffets are hard to gauge. Make sure you RSVP for any meal you can't just grab a table even for a buffet which I don't understand. The deserts are great and options plentiful. read more

Traveled up north to the beautiful JW Marriott resort for a girls brunch. We enjoyed brunch at Cibolo Moon where they had an extensive buffet! They actually had two different tiers of buffets, one which was a little more cost effective that gave you choices of all pre made items and the second tier which included made to order omelettes. Both options in my opinion were a little too pricey, but it is the JW Marriott, so that was to be expected. Because we went in the month of January, I was watching my intake and was on a strict no added sugar, no gluten, no dairy diet. I thought I was doomed but the waiter was extremely helpful in making sure my dietary restrictions were honored. He assisted in helping me choose a dish and offered to switch out sides for items that were compliant with what my goals were which I greatly appreciated. And when the food arrived, it was Heaven! The scrambled eggs were so fluffy, the steak was cooked to perfection and the fruit was fresh! I would definitely recommend this place to anyone in the area. read more

Spending $17 on a simple cocktail in Texas is insane! Especially when they are average at best. On top of it, the service every time we stopped in was slow. The worst meal here is breakfast, they set up a buffet like line where you can pick your "adult" meal or individual items. Adult meals consisted of a drink, a danish or muffin and one hot item, I selected the bacon and egg on an English muffin. Be warned everything "hot" is cold, has been sitting out awhile and not worth the money. Note, this was on Easter Sunday and right after the egg hunt, so maybe it was a special setup. I wasn't disappointed as both breakfast and lunch were great. First, breakfast; off the menu or buffet style, which has typical servings of eggs, taters, sausage and bacon with scratch made omelettes and all the fixin's for bagels and biscuits, plus homemade jams. Totally delish. Lunch was off the menu and they offered up chicken and biscuits. I'm sure it's a play off chicken and waffles, so why not give it a try. Totally not disappointed and optimistically satisfied. Chicken is brine and then fried to a golden brown, served on top of miniature homemade biscuits with a tangy and spicy slaw right on top. Wow! Hellava combination of tangy, spicy, brine, crunchy with a soft warm biscuit to round it off in one bite. While staying at the JW Marriott we made reservations to have thanksgiving at the Cibolo moon. The selections were amazing. The buffet had so many delicious choices from turkey, prime rib, shrimp and so much more. I tried a little of everything and loved it. The prime rib was excellent and the Yukon potatoes were mouth heaven. Everything was fresh and perfectly presented and made. The dessert bar was amazing. Who knew you can find crème brûlée as a buffet dessert choice. I would definitely come back again for a thanksgiving feast. It was worth not having to cook at all and enjoy time with family. I do want to thank the wonderful staff at the Cibolo moon for being amazing even though they worked on thanksgiving.
