I was staying at JW Marriott and one of our company dinners was here. The burnt ends appetizer was delicious and amazing. Perfect taste and crisp. I ordered the burger which had brisket and bacon and a fried egg. I know it sounds like a heart attack waiting to happen but if you are having a cheat day might as well do it right! That burger was hands down one of the best burgers I've ever had. I only wish I could've eaten it all. It was enormous go for two people. Hats of the chef here. I had the cheese grits for a side. They were good but I've had better. It's was more cheesy than gritty, but wouldn't knock the experience a star for it. read more

Cibolo Moon is inside JW Marriott, high end and expensive, but worth the money. There are two bars in JW Marriott, Cibolo Moon(CM) and High Velocity (HV). CM is a Tequila bar and HV is a Beer bar (they even have local beer like Ranger Creek). CM have Tequila flights which means 3 or 4 shots of different kind of Tequila, $20 ~ $30 range. The bartender is super awesome, she introduced us San Martinas, which I really like. It is not as bitter/strong as other tequila, kind sweet. Oh we even got the buttermilk biscuit for free. Way awesome! If you are taking your business contacts out or a date night, put CM on your list. read more

This is one of the restaurants in the JW Marriott resort. Since it is at a resort you can expect to pay out of the freaking nose for the food. The food is actually pretty good. We ate here multiple times while staying at the resort. I will say the dinner menu is superior to the lunch one. I have to give a thumbs up to their drink selection as well. Be warned, if dinning outside, expect the local wildlife (squirrels and birds) to be a little aggressive. Be careful, your food may walk off if you go to the restroom. - Great location - Above average food and drinks - Service is a little slow. Holy Moley!!! This place was amazing!! While at the resort for a 2 day work event we ate lunch here 2 times. I normally HATE buffet style- but this was beyond good. The salads, the soup, the breads, even the desserts. Very high quality and amazing flavors. Day 2 I left after lunch- so we had drinks!!! Soooo good! This place frikin sucks. Been here twice during my stay and both times were terrible. For how much I am already paying for the room, there was a ridiculous amount of fine print and the workers did not share with us how much it was going to be for everything. First, at dinner, our waitress was rude and lied to me when I asked her how much adding chicken to my salad was going to cost. Then she messed up on our meals and somehow messed up splitting the checks... TWICE! Then, we were under the impression we had the inclusive breakfast with our stay. We went to breakfast and asked them if we did, and they said yes. We preceded to eat our breakfast to find out at the end that we actually didn't have the "breakfast plan" and charged us $80 for two people. We have been coming with a group for the last four Memorial Day weekends. We have always looked forward to the buffet at Cibolo Moon as it was always a cut above any other hotel buffet, even though it was in the $40-45 range. This year was a huge disappointment. As context, the sign said "BBQ Buffet" and it was $29, so cheaper than previous years. BUFFET SETUP: There used to be multiple stations, and this time it was a single buffet line and dessert bar. There used to be minimal lines and it was really engaging with a carving station outside and small plates being served by the open kitchen. Now there was one buffet setup and the line stretched very far back, causing waits of easily 10-15 mins. Even if they only had one buffet, at least let there be lines on either side, so the wait isn't as long. Definitely reduced the feel from a high end hotel to cafeteria lunch line. FOOD SELECTION/VARIETY : previous years there was a great selection, including bbq/carving station, great sides, salad bar with a special wedge salad section, small plates including chicken and waffles and one or more seafood selections, like an excellent shrimp and grits or some type of blackened fish. There was a chips/queso/guacamole station that the kids (and adults) always loved. See why we thought it was so great before? This year there was a small salad bar, 3-4 sides and then a carving station with brisket or turkey. See why it was such a letdown this year? On the plus side, they did have a good dessert bar and that was similar in selection to previous years. FOOD QUALITY: used to be great, this time was even worse than mediocre. One of the things that made the buffet here great was it wasn't typical buffet quality and everything was excellent and rivaled the quality of you had ordered the item ala carte. This year, the salads and sides were ok, but the mains were terrible. There was a grilled fish that was so fishy, it seemed on the verge of turning bad. The brisket was dry and stringy and borderline inedible, especially being in Texas!! The turkey was edible but dry. The saving grace was the salad was fresh and the desserts were tasty, but when paying $29, you expect to eat more than salad and dessert. Even the biscuits and cornbread were heavy and unappealing. We did speak to the manager and she said this was the regular buffet and what we had in the past was the "Grand Buffett", which they put out on weekends with lots of families. Umm, when you're sold out on Memorial Day weekend with tons of families, seems like a good time to do the Grand Buffet. However, even for a regular buffet is would have been fine if the food was at least better quality. The rest of our stay was excellent, check out other review under JW Marriott. Once you're in you will have a variety of food stations from cold cereal to all the good hot specials. I had one thing here, Huevos Rancheros. I love a good huevos rancheros, which in my opinion must be one of the great breakfast dishes in the world. Fried eggs with runny yolk, spicy ranchero sauce, and tortillas, marry together to make a whole that is greater than the sum of its parts. The version at Cibolo Moon, the main restaurant at the JW Marriott Resort in San Antonio Hill Country is outstanding. They make their own corn and flour tortillas on site and they are delicious. Their house made chorizo is also tasty. Coupled with a rich and mildly spicy ranchero sauce, some pico de gallo, and some fresh cheese, it's super delicious. My advice when having breakfast here: skip the buffet and opt for the Huevos Rancheros! read more

My wife and I stayed at the JW Marriott 3 years ago on our wedding night and ate breakfast at Cibolo Moon. We've come back every year on our anniversary and this night was our 3rd anniversary dinner. We LOVE this restaurant! Everything is top notch and classy, with a Texas flare. First off, I'd always recommend making a reservation or plan on staking out a seat at the bar, due to popularity. We're always seated quickly and service is great. This year was no exception as our server Jennifer was wonderful. We were given a complementary appetizer since our meal was taking a few extra minutes. The menu is not large but jam packed with excellent options with Texas sized portions. This visit my wife got the bacon wrapped bison meatloaf with mashed potatoes and I got the chicken fried steak with Mac n cheese! We enjoyed a couple of cold libations while we waited to eat. To top it all off, our server Jennifer blessed us with a complimentary dessert in celebration of our anniversary. We went with NY Cheesecake - can't go wrong with cheesecake! We then headed to the bar for a post-meal drink. We sipped by a fire and we relaxed on the couches with good conversation. Always a win to dine at Cibolo Moon and we will always be back! read more

We came to this resort for our 34th anniversary with the goal of celebrating a special occasion. Second day eating breakfast and very disappointed with service. Waited 15 minutes for the server Kelsey to bring coffee at which point we were almost finished with our breakfast. He rarely came to the table, but was quick to bring the bill. The website says they're open until 9 pm...even as I write this. The trek there is outrageous to begin with! We absolutely love Cibolo Moon's evening buffet. We have been several times and for different types of experiences - dare night and family in town. The food is fresh and high quality. They even have a "kids buffet" which is really fun. The dessert selections are also great! Having all of this on the JW property makes the whole experience elevated. read more

Apparently when at full capacity they have " The Grand Buffet " its 29.00 a person, i was told they have 90% of what they offer on the menu. We came here as a family unit. Including some once removed cousins. Listen people, this is in a hotel restaurant serving mass amounts of people. The food is decent and the service is fine. Are there better places, sure? But the convenience is 100. We dined al fresco. After eating, we relaxed with some drinks and the waiter warned of 4 baby skunks. Sure enough they came out. After much screaming from the moms, the girls screamed too. To be fair. We were warned and the night was basically over anyway. No one was sprayed. This place is in the sticks and wildlife happens. This is your traditional breakfast but with lots of extra choices such as all kinds of pastries, full fruit bar, cheeses, sliced meats, omelettes bar, and a great spread of jams and butters. My husband and I are new to plant based eating, so I was pleasantly surprised at the food selection. My husband had the chik-n Parmesan and I had the "big nasty" burger. We also had the bbq cauliflower bites. The chikn parm was good, the fries were great! The texture of the burger wasn't to my liking, but the flavor was ok. It's a chick pea burger and just a little too mushy for my taste. The cauliflower lacked flavor to us both. The service was awesome. The worst restaurant experience I have had in years. The staff, with exception of our server Kyle, who was gracious and friendly, were absolutely miserable. The restaurant is extremely loud, tables felt tacky/dirty. There wasn't a bottle of Rosé wine to be had, coffee came out room temperature. Caesar salad was good. Burnt ends were disgusting- and not burnt ends. It was brisket cut in cubes and torched. You could literally still taste the butane. So last year's Easter brunch was a series of expensive mistakes, and I didn't even get to eat at Cibolo Moon that day. This year I was smarter and refused to let Marriott staff lead me down the garden path. I called about a week before Easter (I know, I know, I wasn't THAT much smarter) and was told reservations were full, but that they were allowing walk-ins for brunch at CM. I rallied my family into getting to the JW Marriott 15 minutes before CM opened for brunch, and there was already a line. They managed the line very well, though, with complimentary coffee and melon, pagers, and kindness. This was great, actually, since I was able to caffeinate and work up an appetite while sitting in the lovely furniture in one of the hotel's many lobbies. And then we beasted. In fact, I ate as though I myself had just risen from the grave. The carving board was a highlight for me--salt-crusted beef of some kind. Very tender and flavorful, served with a dark mushroom gravy, garlic mashed potatoes, and roast vegetables. I think they had turkey too, but I had eyes only for the beef. Then I hit up the made-to-order omelette bar. No regrets. I followed this with a chocolate croissant, then some oatmeal with chocolate chips and dried berries. I made sure to taste several of the local jams and preserves (don't overlook this amazing feature of the buffet). I saw no need to wait around for bacon, after a small child took the last 15 or so slices in the tray. Instead I went back for more beef, then washed it all down with a cookie. Everything was delicious. I didn't even get around to the charcuterie, cheese, oysters, shrimp, or waffles. I was a bit confused about the mimosas, bellinis, etc. They were probably not included, but I found out too late that they had really interesting muddled fruits as part of the bevvies. I wish our waitress would have told me that upfront, because I probably would have given up the cookie for a cocktail. When I went back and reflected on my grief last year in the lame ballroom buffet, I remembered that amazing carrot soup. That is the one thing I wish Cibolo Moon's Easter brunch would have offered--a soup course, and preferably THAT soup. Yes, it was truly an indulgence to eat here for Easter, when the brunch was more lavish than usual. But on any old weekend, this brunch buffet is up there in my lifetime top three: 1) the Bellagio, 2) a place in Taiwan, 3) Cibolo Moon. read more

This was a very enjoyable dining sport at the JW Marriott Hill Country. I dined here a couple days for lunch, so was able to try a smattering of dishes. And of course, each time, went overboard on the stellar cast iron biscuits with homemade strawberry-jalapeno perserves. Those alone add an extra star to this review! Two of the three lunches I had here were of the half/half lunch special, which is a pretty good deal at 12 bucks. I once had the sandwich/salad combo, but the soup/salad combo was may favorite when the daily soup was corn and poblano chowder. The chowder was not overly rich--just enough so--and the poblano laced throughout was spectacular. One thing to note on the half/half lunch special is that you don't get a choice of soups or sandwiches. It's a half of whatever the daily special for each is. I did also try the crab salad, which was a nice, light dish. Not overly-dressed, but thankfully more dressed than the comparably lackluster seared tuna salad I had over at High Velocity. It's probably not a stretch to say that, dollar for dollar withe the quality of food, Cibolo Moon offers the best on-site dining at the JW Marriott. read more

You really could rate this place all over the spectrum. I give it two because I feel the cons outweigh the pros of this place. If management cared they could easily pull off four stars or better. Let me break it down a little bit for you. You can make a reservation although I don't think it helped us much at dinner. Not a problem for breakfast, brunch, or lunch for us during our extended weekend stay at the resort but dinner was ridiculous. We made a reservation and almost 2 hours after our dinner reservation time was when we sat at our table. There was no reason for it. It was not overly crowded. It came down to an inexperienced and a staff that really could care less. This made for some super cranky kids and adults. Again they didn't seem to care. The food was good. The "burnt ends" are good I wouldn't say excellent as most of the staff says. That might have something to do with the mood at our table but I wasn't blown away with anything we had for dinner it was just good to ok resort food. The brunch is amazing. They absolutely put all the effort into that and fall short everywhere else. read more

Alright my celiac and GF fam! Listen up! First off- I don't understand some of the bad reviews here. Covid is still going on and Karen's need to stay home if they are going to complain about the extra precautions that are being taken due to a PANDEMIC going on. I was thrilled at the opportunity to get away in a clean and safe environment and we were met with utmost care during our stay. Eating out can be particularly challenging because I am celiac and it's always a risk to eat something you didn't make. Every step of the way I had options which was SUCH a relief. Room service, high velocity, pool bar and Cibolo moon all accommodated even beyond what was initially offered as GF with multiple options. Food was great everywhere we ate. BF rated chicken fried steak 11/10. We walked right into Cibolo moon at 6pm on a Saturday. I loved how much seating there was all around the property to just sit and relax or gather with family . It never felt crowded. The entire staff was knowledgeable about the precautions needed for celiac and if they weren't specifically familiar, they would bring someone who was. Room service was fast. Our room was super clean. Everyone was respectful of the 6ft rule and masks. Overall- 10/10 and highly recommend read more

Sadly I cannot recommend this place. We had breakfast and lunch here today while staying at the resort. We've stayed at several other five star resorts in Hawaii and Mexico and the food was always top notch. You pay top prices but typically you get top quality food. Not so much here unfortunately. The breakfast was okay. It was a fairly typical breakfast buffet. Not much good or bad to say about it. Dinner was a different story. They had a buffet option tonight and I was excited because of the showcased smoked meats. I was quickly disappointed at the all of the meats. I've had much better BBQ in Ohio and I expected much better when coming to Texas. Rudy's blew this BBQ out of the water. The brisket was cooked at the wrong temp (grey) and had minimal crust (bark), if any. This resulted in bland off flavors and dry meat. The turkey was also very dry. The fish was mediocre, it could have used better seasoning. The other courses were also pretty average. Again, I expected much more than average when staying at a five star resort and paying these prices. Our service was great though, both times. I added a star for this. We love that the food is themed around the hardy tastes of Texas, and try to make it out at least once a month. They make a mean rib eye, brisket, prime rib, and a tasty salmon. The kitchen is an open format, and is always a treat sitting in view of the chefs at work. I myself am always eager to try the chef specials. My favorite was the pork belly and bourbon maple sauce. I've dined at Cibolo Moon once off the regular breakfast menu and twice for the brunch buffet. I would say just go with the brunch buffet because after you've ordered an entree and a drink it's almost the same price as the buffet ($21). I think this is good place to go with the family or a group of friends because there is a large selection and everyone is going to find something they enjoy. I especially love the biscuits and gravy, the made to order pancakes, and the assortment of fruit. Usually I wouldn't think that I could eat $21 worth in the late morning, but since I'm eating for two, I get my monies worth every time. My husband enjoys the omelet station, breakfast meats, and the smoked salmon. Like I said....something for everyone! The atmosphere is nice, however the service is spotty. How can a restaurant that is so amazing at breakfast be so terrible at dinner?? The breakfast buffet is definitely their specialty. It has a fantastic selection of fruit and other goodies. You can even top your waffles with whipped whiskey butter and glazed pecans. They make a great omelet and the rest of items on the buffet are equally as delicious. The coffee is nice & strong! Breakfast gets 5 stars We expected the same out of dinner but it ended up being a step up from Furr's cafeteria. Just a mediocre buffet with more mediocre items on the menu.
