Love love love Cilantro Lime. It's hard to believe a Mexican joint like this would be tucked away in not the most desirable food court. But let me tell you, it's worth the visit! I'm a big fan of their 99 cent Taco Tuesday's and you can even find me here on a Thursday ordering some more tacos full price. The tacos come with a side of chips in the tray and when I side, it's usually about 10 chips. I guess I'm complaining because they are soo good and I just want more. I also love the carne asada and Vegan options. My favorite being the Soyrizo that comes with small potatoes pieces mixed in. This place used to be great but they seem to be going down hill. Last year when I ordered the Authentic Chicken Burrito it came in a hard container with plastic ware, napkins, a generous amount of chips and two containers of salsa. However the last three times I ordered the same item, it came with 6-8 chips, one container of salsa that is only half full, no napkins, and then placed in a brown bag that soaks up the grease because the burrito is only partially wrapped in foil with one end exposed, and of course no plastic ware. So I LOVE red and green chilaquiles. I grew up with them. I have yet to taste chilaquiles like my mom's, who I consider the best Mexican dishes. Taco's review, they mentioned that these chilaquiles were the best out of all of the places they visited for chilaquiles. So we went and I of course tried their chilaquiles divorciados. When u order them, they come with both of the red and green, but also automatically served with eggs and cilantro and sour cream. No meat. I decided to order with no eggs or cilantro and sour cream because I just wanted the chilaquiles taste, but instead ordered them with asada on the side. We got our food as ordered. I started with the green with the asada on top, and first flavors that I got were the asada, which was weird tasting. The green chilaquiles were good by themselves. I next tried the red chilaquiles again with the asada and got the same weird asada taste. Not pleasant at all. I ended up taking the red and green chilaquiles to go, but not the asada. Sorry but the asada, just not good at all. On the same day hours later, I finished the red and green chilaquiles, and they were DEELISH!! So my point is, when I first tried both red and green, I had the taste of the asada which again, was not good. The chilaquiles by themselves, are DELICIOUS!! The customer service is EXCELLENT!! I love this place. I instantly felt so welcomed. Right away you feel the good family type of vibe(I was called mija haha I loved it) . The customer service is beyond amazing. I had the strawberry horchata which I never heard of anywhere or ever tried before and it was delicious. The quesadilla was pretty good as well. Los Angeles is a city of hidden gems. The same goes for food and restaurants. If you are ever in the vicinity of the fashion district and the Santee alleys, I suggest you stop by Cilantro Lime. What I love about this restaurant is that they have very tasty vegetarian options. I myself am a sucker for their mushroom fajitas and their soyrizo. The meat was juicy and seasoned and a generous helping was thrown onto the fries along with pico, cheese and some yummy seasoning. My friend had the hard shell tacos. Looked good. She's a tough gal to please and she was happy so that's a solid endorsement. Watch yourself on the sauces. The green sauce is super tasty but pretty mild. I ordered the Carne Asada fries through Yelp. Went to pick them up and not only were they not ready (in the time listed on my order) they weren't even aware of the order. Ok...so...lol. I was told they would be ready in 5 minutes, which they were. But they LOOK like they were made in 5 minutes. I know Carne Asada fries aren't exactly a culinary masterpiece, but, bruh. When I'm in this food court (International Food Court), I tend to get a few tacos from here, and some ceviche and seafood tacos at Lupita's Seafood next door. Truth be told, the carne asada here is not the best I've had..when we went last weekend, it was a bit on the dry side, but it was flavorful. What I really love about this place is the salsa. They have a SPICYYYYY habanero salsa that is packed full of flavor. They give you free chips with your order so I was going to town with the chips and salsa. If they sold their salsa, I'd buy it in a heartbeat. On top of this, service was really friendly! The girl that helped us over the weekend was really friendly and when she saw us eyeing a dish the kitchen made --- she helped us identify it (Pambazo, all I remember is it has chorizo, and it's twice fried....YUM) and she also gave some other recommendations that we definitely will have to check out next time. My daughter was hungry and wanted to order from this hole in the wall. I noticed that there were no prices posted. The man working behind the register said he would let me know the price prior to paying for my order. She had ordered the taquitos plate and I then handed him a $100.00 bill. My daughter then decided she wanted a bottle of coke as well. He handed me exactly $81.00 for my change. He said he kept the rest of the change for the coke she had ordered as well as the cup of ice she had asked for. I then questioned him why I only received $81.00 back. He explained to me that the Coke bottle cost $4.50 and the cup of ice cost $0.91 plus tax which totaled to $5.92. I then asked him for the receipt of the soda and cup. Upon seeing the receipt, he had charged me $.091 for a small refill which did not make any sense because we never asked for a refill. He then explained that it was the cost of the cup. He apparently was price gouging, because the price for the soda and cup was outrageous. Consumers beware!!! This little hole in the wall will charge you whatever they want to charge and not let you know before ordering. He held on to my change so he can charge me for the overpriced soda and cup of ice without me complaining prior to purchasing them. First off, most people on Yelp think they're Gods and scoff at the idea of coming to a food court to eat, but in downtown you have two options - humble mom & pop quick food spots like this or over-the-top expensive uppity gastro-pubs - and at the end of the day, your wallet usually decides. I've worked as a Sous and Executive Chef at four different top-tier restaurants in LA ranging from fine-dining to gastro to English pub-faire, and trust me: the more down to earth & simple a place is, the better the food. Today, in the sweltering heat, after a night of heavy drinking, my lady and I walked about a mile to get to this place because she was craving jalapeño poppers, which they unfortunately don't have anymore but that's okay because now we were locked in to our decision of places to eat after such a humid journey. She ordered the Carne Asada Fries and an Agua de Jamaica, I got the Rolled Tacos (basically big ol' beef taquitos) and a Horchata. We were NOT disappointed. Everything was flavourful, well-balanced, and huge portions for the cost. And if you say "hot" when they ask you what amount of heat you want in your salsa, be prepared 'cause that sh!t is fire from the pits of hell, yet still tastes great and not bitter like most places. We got a little more than a quarter of the way through and my girlfriend started to feel the effects of her hangover, so I asked for a box. Naturally when packing up barely eaten food a shop owner is going to ask if everything was okay, and upon simply saying "oh yeah it was great she's just super hungover" the owner asked if she likes menudo, which everyone knows is the ultimate hangover cure. Naturally I thought he was just giving a suggestion, but he turns to his kitchen and has them whip up a large to-go container of menudo for her for free. This is the kind of gesture you can only get from people who are in it for the love of it, and it deserves all of my respect. I was already planning on coming back because the food was so good, but the service sealed the deal. I also never leave a review unless I can honestly give five stars, so congratulations. Side note: If you come to downtown and complain about parking, you've obviously never been to downtown before, it comes with the territory. I got the Empanada Salad, which was a really generous helping of two beef and potato empanadas on a bed of lettuce. It came with a side of fried tortilla chips. Super filling and delicious with the salsas! I also grabbed a strawberry horchata--the horchata could have been stronger, but I loved that they used fresh strawberries, and it was a LOT of horchata. This place deserves so much more credit and recognition. Not only is their food amazing and authentic, but their staff is friendly and helpful. I love getting the carne asada burrito (and I love the green tortilla that they use). I am a huge fan of spicy food, and I was thoroughly impressed with the sauce that comes with the burrito. It's so HOT, and so good. The portion of the size is fairly big and it includes chips on the side as well. The chips are so crispy and thick, it's as though they fried it right there and then (but I'm not sure if they fried it or if it is from another brand). On Thursdays, they have pretty cheap horchata (I forgot, I think it's $2 for a LARGE HORCHATA). Their strawberry horchata is a must!!!
