This is such a welcome addition to the Alameda food scene. We had a nice birthday dinner here. The movie photos on the wall and the new colors really warm up this great location. Our ahi poke appetizer was very good and we almost ordered a 2nd round. The land and sea gumbo was great. Good flavors, big shrimp, spicy but not too much. Bison meatloaf was good. Fish tacos were great (too spicy for my mom though). margharita pizza was just right. The chocolate cake was moist and chocolaty goodness. Our server was delightful, but the kitchen turned out the food super slow. Will definately be back and will sent more friends to support this place. read more

I really wanted to like Cinema Grill. The menu sounds good, but the food was not good and both my boyfriend and I got sick after we ate dinner. The happy hour is for 1 hour! That's pretty lame. We had the Brussels sprout appetizer. The Gorgonzola dip didn't have much flavor. My boyfriend had the Seared Ahi salad. He said it was decent, but nothing very exciting. I had the Saffron Vegetable Risotto with Shrimp. This is not risotto. It's just saffron rice with vegetables. I started feeling sick immediately after finishing dinner. I couldn't even finish my beer! By the time we got home, my boyfriend was also sick. Not sure what made us sick, but we will not be returning. Very disappointed. read more

This was a dining experience that will leave me craving for the dishes I had and the ambiance as well. The Kale Ceasar salad was crisp and flavor able . The Sizzling Stone Flank Steak was very good , and fun! The server , Dianna was so kind to mention during my ordering time that it was interactive, which showed that she really cares . The hot stone comes out on a plate and the raw strips follow. I truly enjoyed cooking my steak to order , but more to smell the flavored while they seared. This is a definite new craving ! I cannot say enough about the wine list ; the owners must be very educated in the food / wine pairing aspect of dining. I like their 2 for 1 movie ticket special on Tuesdays, however it was a waste of $45 and more than likely I won't be back. They couldn't even get a simple burger right, forgot my cheese and fries, also over priced Charging $4 for a soda then $2 extra for a refill. The waitress was nice but didn't seem to care too much for us either and we were like the only people in the restaurant for a while. I heard another waiter mention specials to some customers who came in later and Our waitress didn't mention specials, just wanted to get our order over with. So I went with my husband and I had a bacon cheddar burger with avacado -- it was very good. We got tickets for teh movie and they had some unique items on the menu. But, they lost points for the following: - extra $ for avacado (and it was a little sliver) - cold apple crisp - didn't have milk for my coffee. HELLO?! when it is 5:30PM on a Sunday and someone wants milk with their coffee, go over to CVS and get some. I would have given this place 3 or 4 stars, but after that excuse, I couldn't justify it. We're really super jazzed about this place. You can bring booze and food from the restaurant inside the theater, and buy your movie tickets inside the restaurant. No waiting in line! We had great service from Jeremy. Our food was yummy and I loved the healthier and gluten free options. We had the truffle bacon Brussels sprout number with curry Gorgonzola fondue to start. Bf had the flat iron steak with chimichurri. I had the seared salmon, and they gladly substituted the sides for me. We were overall very pleased and we will return! read more

My family recently attended an art fair on the island, and stopped by this restaurant. What a disappointment. Each of us agreed that the food was mediocre at best and heavily overpriced. When i voiced a complaint about the pool of oil my omelette was swimming in, the manager came over and told me not to order the omelette with cheese next time. My daughter spoke up, telling him we have a lot of experience ordering omelettes and this is not how they are supposed to be. All he could say was that we need to order our food differently next time. Im sorry, but an omelette without cheese is not an omelette. Whatever, we're never going back. Slow, buy polite service. Food is mediocre at best. Came here for brunch. "Bottomless" mimosas were so slow to be delivered that it's no wonder they can afford to only charge $8. By the time you receive one refill (about 10-15 minutes between refills after asking for them), you're done with your meal. Short rib hash had a very small amount of meat to potatoes. Steak sandwich was anemic as well. Gets that extra star for potential, but otherwise this place will be gone soon, I suspect. This location seems to burn through restaurants. read more

Their Godfather pizza is amazing and it's super convenient to have dinner delivered to you in the theater. The only downside, and thus a 4-star rating, is that they have very few gluten free options for the in-theater menu, why can't we get a gluten free pizza for our movie? We wandering in to grab a bite before the movie and discovered this new gem in town! We were able to buy our movie tickets here and could have even ordered food to be served in the movie theater during the movie. This night we ate in the restaurant. The brussels sprouts appetizer was wonderful! The whole meal was delicious, just the right amount and very reasonably priced. We were the first ones in for Sat brunch. When we go to order, they were already out of pork sausages and choco ricotta fritters. Huh? the weekends are the only time you are open for brunch and you are not prepared? Where is the effort? Someone from our table is allergic to onions and let the waitress know that. She ordered her dish without onions. Her meal arrived with...guess what...onions! The server says that dish has the onions already mixed in with the peppers. OK...so why didn't the waitress tell us before ordering? Now our pregnant friend has to watch us all eat while she waits for another dish, or we wait for our dishes to get cold while hers come. Bad situation either way. C'mon Cinema Grill, you can do so much better! read more

I like the convenience of being able to order other types of food and eating at the movies with reserves seating. But the mahi tacos were ok just don't think I would order them again. Calamari was great and definitely would get the next time. Sliders were bland. The fries were not crispy. The amount was pretty expensive for bland food. Don't think we would do it again. read more

Pleased with this new addition to our city! We enjoyed everything we ordered, which was close to one of each item on the menu. Super reasonably priced, responsive staff. Mixed drinks took a little longer than expected, but the atmosphere was so pleasant it was fine to wait. Love that Kurt (owner) took this on so that we can have a theater that allows grown up drinks inside. Haven't tried the "deliver to you" option when watching a movie, but will be willing to try. Thai noodles, fish tacos, steak salad, gumbo, poke app all delicious! Bacon in the Brussels sprouts made that dish a little salty. Hamburger could use some fine tuning to be competitive in the "best of" department. Give this one a fair shake! read more

Disappointed! I was a regular at both Angela's and Cellar Door. Was excited when the place reopened as Cinema Bar and Grill. It is convenient to have a place where you can have dinner and buy your movie tickets too. Loved the decor, atmosphere, the menu is nice. Our food was good. The drinks not so much! Was very sad to experience a very poor customer service. The staff needs more training! They try but lack experience! Our server was making one mistake after another. I will give it 6 months or so before trying it again. Hopefully they will improve their skills. read more

Cinema Grill, I have a bit of a bone to pick with you. I read about your offerings, so I kind of had an idea of what could be done, but months later when I actually went in, I was surprised that you don't mention it at all. Kind of a "have you dined with us before, let me tell you what our options are. . . " You have to walk in already knowing what you're capable of. You can order food to go, with up to two alcoholic cocktails per person, and take them with you on a little tray into the theater via the indoor walkway. How do I know? I saw people with the trays, and I overheard someone talking about the cocktails. Not someone who worked there, just someone who had been before. Seriously - upsell! Why not ask if a guest wants to order a drink or two to go? We would've said yes, I nearly guarantee it. We asked about buying movie tickets through them, and they said, yes, they could to it and just to let them know when. When we were ready, then they explained we had to pay for it right then - had you mentioned it the first time we asked, we would've been ready with the card - just a thought. We had a trainee as our waiter and that was the first thing out of his mouth. He hadn't tried any of the food yet, so couldn't even make a recommendation. Restaurant managment 101 - if you want people to sell your food, they have to know about it. We decided on a couple of things (thanks to some help from his trainer, though she seemed somewhat dubious about the flatbread) and settled in with our drinks to enjoy the sun out on the sidewalk patio. We got this little beef, hot plate jobbie - where you get raw beef that you cook yourself on a hot rock, or piece of metal or whatever it is. The problem here, is that the two tops just aren't quite large enough for this operation. Two drinks, two waters, and some silverware already takes up half the table. Two fairly large share plates, this sizzling platter fellow, and another plate with raw meat and sauce and cucumer salad is really not quite doable. I had to have my little share plate half off the table to fit it in front of me, which of course led to peanut sauce covered meat all in my lap. That was fun. Luckily I was not on a first date. The dish was delicious, there just wasn't much thought into how it would fit onto the table (smaller share plates maybe?). We moved on to the pizza/flatbread of the day - a version of a BLT with ranch sauce. It was really good - we would order it again if it were on the menu. We ended up coming back after our movie for dessert and a nightcap and sat at the bar. We were in luck with it being late night happy hour (woo!). The dessert we ordered was a bit of a let down though - it was an apple crisp, but it was more crisp than apple. I think there were 3-4 small slices of apple, and no delicious apple crisp "goo" at all. It was super super dry, and super crisp heavy. The fella was happy, but I was hoping for more fruit. We'll come back again for sure, but I think the food, the attention to detail, and the service could use some tightening up. read more

Pleasantly surprised by this new place. Sat at the bar (as we couldn't get a table right away) and talked with a very nice, knowledgeable bartender. I had a cocktail, a Roman Holiday, delicious and not weak. Then I had the lamb lollipops. Tender and delicious. Served with cubed baked root vegetables, tiny cubes of potatoes, turnips, sweet potatoes, other things, seasoned and baked, scrumptious. Also greens, some sort of shaved sprouts or arugula? This is a great place and a wonderful idea. Having dinner and a movie has always been a thing and this restaurant makes it a duet. The theater and restaurant is connected and you can have food delivered to your seat (cocktails too!!). I was seated at a shared table, which is a very European feel. Surrounded by happy people and busy staff. On this busy night I felt they were well staffed and I never felt forgotten about. Not to mention the food was delicious. I started with the soup special for the day, cream of asparagus. It was smooth and rich with a clean freak asparagus flavor. Topped with a grilled slice of bread and a sprinkle of cilantro (I would have chosen pecorino cheese instead, the cilantro was a little out of place) it was a perfect starter. I choose a main course of the Caesar salad with grilled chicken. The chicken was moist. The dressing was yummy without being overpowering. They made it unique by replacing the boring lettuce with baby kale. At first I wasn't sure if I liked it, but the brisk bite of the kale was a nice addition to the flavor compilation. I finished the meal with the chocolate bread pudding (by recommendation of my attentive waiter Jeremy). It was scrumptious! I don't usually care for bread pudding, but this was warm and sweet. With vanilla ice cream brought in from the ice cream parlor down the street (Tucker's) this place has a real neighborhood feel. With a fun atmosphere and a full bar (the Cucumber gimlet was strong and tasty) it is a perfect date destination or just for one. Definitely recommend trying this great restaurant!! read more

Stopped by here while waiting for our movie to start. I've always wanted to check this place out as i always see a live band setting up in the evening and the atmosphere looked wonderful. The fact that this restaurant is connected to the theater is especially a great idea. The concept us you can dine here purchase your tickets with your server and dine or get it to go and just walk into the theater and sit on one of the reserved seatings. They are also open for brunch and lunch with bottomless mimosas for $6 or $7. As soon as we walked in we had a lady from the bar area quickly walked around to greet us and seat us as the hostess was not there yet. The staff was super friendly and down to earth. We even walked to the back to take pictures with groot from guardians of the galaxy and rey from the force awakens. I guess after the theater is done with the props some make it to this restaurant. I loved their whiskey sour it was strong and flavorful and for $10 i didnt feel like i got a water down drink and it was worth the $10 price tag. The side bacon was perfectly cooked and smokey. I didnt get a chance to try their actual menu but i will be definitely coming back and ill update my review after i tried one of their entrees. read more
