Elphaba's Caramel Apple, Strawberries & Cream Glow

Emerald Grilled Cheese -- pesto grilled cheese sandwich, standard sandwich with fresh crispy chips and ketchup. Elphaba's Caramel Apple -- delicious shot, tastes like the dessert itself. Strawberries & Cream Glow -- delicious shot too, can taste the alcohol more in this one, but very yummy and creamy due to the whipped cream. Both shots tasted like candy! If you check on their instagram, they have the special foods and drinks based on recent popular films that came out. I went here to watch wicked while enjoying a themed treat!

I have been to Cinema Grill many times; for brunch, for dinner, for drinks to take into the theater, and for live music. Stopped in for a light dinner before a movie and I always love the vibe of Cinema Grill. There are blown up photos of classic movie stars, and a ton of seating inside and outside. If you are interested in a movie you can also buy your tickets, drinks, and food for delivery in the theater at Cinema Grill. We had pizza and I had a Shirley temple and my partner had a beer. Always great food, quick service, and chill atmosphere.

Date: 3/27/2025 Time: 7:30 PM 58° Cool I don't have an issue with the entertainment on Thursday evenings at Cinema Grill. The band is great, playing Latin jazz, cha cha music. What is the issue? The lack of good service when it comes to paying the bill. This evening is not the first time I have experienced an extremely long delay in paying the bill. It also happened on February 6, 2025 around 9:40 PM. Each time I waited for about 30 to 35 minutes for the waiter to bring me my bill. Another thing, the waiter had to ask me what did I order. I gave him the information the second time. Apparently, he did not write down the order the first time. With this type of delay, Cinema Grill was very fortunate that I did not do a dine and dash. I had to go up to the bar area both times to pay the bill. Eats and beverage: Hail Caesar salad and an Arnold Palmer. The salad was tasty; however, the Arnold Palmer left a lot to be desired. Usually I order an Arnold Palmer as a test to determine whether or not the quality of the food is good. The beverage failed. I had better Arnold Palmers elsewhere. Caesar salad, 3.5 stars; Arnold Palmer, 2 stars. Three factors which caused the drop from a 4 star rating: delay in getting my bill in a timely manner and a terrible Arnold Palmer. The female manager said I would not be comp for the delay in receiving my bill. Before I left, she was warned that I have an option to say something on this website about Cinema Grill. I thanked her and walked away. If by chance there is a future visit, I will order a kahlua and cream instead of an Arnold Palmer.

Thank you to everyone at Cinema Grill for making Christmas Eve for my friend, Lupe, and I, brighter and merrier as there were limited options to explore in Alameda. While I have several suggestions about how to improve the taste and flavor of my cinema grill burger, I'll focus on what I did appreciate. I'm so grateful for Iriana and manager dude, they managed to serve so many hungry customers with poise and a cheerful smile. I appreciate the tender, love, and care that the kitchen staff gave to Lupe's salmon sandwich. I wish I ordered that. There's always next time though! It was so sweet that Iriana must have filled my BIG glass up with water at least 4x because I'm a fish out of water on land. We can't wait to return for the live music entertainment! Wishing you all a merry Christmas and a happy new year! Best wishes, Briana Wing

I asked for the grill steak medium , it was way over cooked , hard meat , we will not be back

The meat was way over cooked, vegs were ok, the onion rings needed to be a lighter batter . We won't be coming back.

Walking around Alameda and was going to the movies, but we got hungry, so we stopped in for Linner. Omg, the menu was a nice surprise!!! There was a lot of staff preparing for the evening and they were so nice and happy go lucky!!! Plenty of seating inside and outside!!! Very beautiful chairs and tables... I can rarely say that, but this place indeed is historic! The food n drinks are very very wonderful! I love all the flavors! Huge parking lot next to the entrance! Clean single restrooms!!!

My boyfriend and I are avid moviegoers and we always pick this theater because of its character and charm. I had suggested to him that maybe we should try the Grill next door. The thought of having our food delivered to our seats seems cool. The Lot in San Ramon has the same concept and I decided that we should try this at least once. I ordered the Beyond burger with sweet potato fries. My boyfriend ordered the fish tacos with coleslaw. We were told it is going to arrive on our seats by 5:15 pm. The movie M3GAN 2.0 started at 5 and by the time 5:15 came, still no food. So my boyfriend goes downstairs to see what was taking so long blah blah blah. Finally our food arrived. 13 minutes late!! Watching the movie my boyfriend turns to me and asks how my burger is. If my burger came back cold. I tell him it's still warm but it was really salty. He turns to me and says the tacos were cold and the tortillas fell apart. He wasn't happy with his food. My boyfriend is usually not the type to complain, but says we'll never order from here again.

Snow White Pizza with miscellaneous cheese thrown on top

The service was five stars The drinks 5 stars The food was 2 stars. Mismatch opportunities as well as mismatch level of service. Ordered the sidecar drink which was very delicious and my father ordered a beer. He ordered fish and chips and when he asked for tartar sauce they didn't have any. So what's the whole point of fish and chips? I ordered the Snow White Pizza. It was served lukewarm and not fully cooked. You can tell they cooked the dough and the sauce and then added lukewarm toppings on top. Not sure what the white chunky cheese was. This is very basic pub food in general and does not meet the expectations of a higher bar that they provide. This was a mistake coming here for dinner.

It has been a long time since I first reviewed here. I had hoped that after all these years, the food would have improved. It appears as though despite mediocre reviews, not much has changed. We decided on a movie over the weekend, and decided that we would have more time to eat before the movie, if we dined there at the grill. We thought that maybe there would be some new offerings. We were seated promptly by our server. She was nice and attentive. The place was empty. I think there was one other party in the restaurant and a few in the bar. It's kind of a shame, because I feel the place has so much potential. But, people still aren't coming. Upon receiving our menus, it became apparent that despite lackluster offerings, the menu was virtually unchanged in 5 years. I ordered the Philly Cheese steak. It was pretty good, and I think the best choice of the evening. My son ordered the CLT chicken sliders. He told me that he thought they were undercooked. I took a bite and realized that something in-fact was very wrong. They were crunchy in the center. It was almast like they were precooked, frozen and not well cooked to order. I don't know what it was, but they were inedible. That was a real disappointment. We had hoped to have a nice family meal together. We decided to settle up and head to the movie. I stopped by the bar to grab a blass of beer to take into the movie. It was $8.00. I gave the guy a 10 dollar bill. He replied "thank you" and kept the change. While I would have tipped the two dollars, he really should have asked if I needed change. So disappointing. Maybe I'll try them in another five years.

For Alameda Restaurant Week, I visited several local spots and captured some of Cinema Grill's featured items. I loved the warmth and classic atmosphere, and these are the coolest dishes I saw. They have live music with lots of variety, and you can take your food into the theater where they'll serve you. The place is bustling, busy, and exciting with a perfect location.

A pathetic excuse for a hamburger and fries
    Elle R.

It's pretty hard to mess up a burger and fries right? Well Cinema Grill makes it look easy. We came here on a Tuesday evening for the $5 movie at the Alameda Cinema next door. We thought we'd pop in for a quick bite before, but unfortunately the experience here at the Grill ruined everything. We both ordered the hamburger and it was terrible. And honestly? It's not even the fault of the cooks. The ingredient quality is horrific. You can tell just by looking at it that they use low quality ingredients and yet they still feel justified in charging exorbitant prices because they're a part of the theater. This place actually has lots of things going for it: a perfect location, classy atmosphere, wonderful servers, and yet the horrible food overshadows all of those good things. Thankfully the servers were super helpful and understanding. They are extremely nice and friendly and they'll go out of their way to try to remedy something that isn't even their fault. I love the Alameda theater and I will always come back to it even though it is definitely not as nice as an AMC or Regal cinema. It's a shame that Cinema Grill is attached to the theater because it really ruins the experience. They have the perfect location, the atmosphere is very "classy casual," and the drinks are good too. And I'd come and try Cinema Grill again if it was under new management. They have a lot of upsides but they need to invest some serious time and money into upgrading the quality of the food.

Took a little longer than expected to get a chicken salad and sandwich to go, not to mention they forgot my fries and maybe could have tried harder assembling this sandwich?

When buying online there's a processing fee of $1.75 as of August 31, 2026, so if you have the chance I'd buy it in person at the movie theater ticket office. The historic theater is one of the most nostalgic things I love about Alameda, the high ceilings and the atmosphere is amazing especially with a full theater. The regular seats are getting pretty worn down at this point, so I'd pick one of the closer, newer, and more comfy seats for a little bit more money. ---- Notes: - there's a paid parking structure and metered parking, there is some residential parking a few blocks away as well - the theater isn't overly loud which I love, and you don't get your eardrums blown out - you can order from the cinema grill but only when they're open so it's not available for all theater showings unfortunately - the typical theater food isn't super great tho and the prices are expensive as usual - the personal pizza was tiny and like $10 ---- Overall: the shining jewel of Alameda, at night the neon lights are so beautiful and the historic theater is a must if you ever visit Alameda

Movie started at 4:00pm, something was iffy with the audio, so they had to go through testing, which delayed the start of the movie. First 30 minutes of the movie, everything was going fine. Audio was kinda quiet, but not too bad. And then, as soon as the movie was escalating, and transitioning right into a big car chase set piece, the audio cut out. For a whole 5 minutes, there was no audio. We tried to get help, but every employee outside of the auditorium shrugged and said "someone is probably working on it" PROBABLY???? WHAT???? Not helpful at ALL. Completely incompetent idiots. We tried to get SOMEONE to notify the person in charge of the projector but they stared at us with no help. After that 5 minutes, the audio came back... for 4 seconds. For another 7 minutes, the audio just kept cutting IN AND OUT AND IN AND OUT. We ended up just leaving and getting a refund. I'm guessing the audio remained screwed up because there were about 50-60 other people in that theater who walked out in complete frustration. I even saw someone throw their drink onto the carpet. People walked past me saying "fucking shit show" and "can't fucking believe this" and it was in fact a complete shit show. I would be surprised if they just cancelled the screening after 90% of the crowd left. I'm surprised there are no reviews talking about this disaster considering the amount of people who were in that theater. I don't know what the employees were doing, I don't know if they were high or something, but holy shit were they incompetent. Someone needs to be fired over this whole thing considering the amount of refunds that needed to be processed that day. And it really REALLY hurts to say all of this, because the experience I had with this place a year ago watching Sinners was phenomenal. As a recommendation, they have to be more careful with who they hire. And they should tell their employees that when there is a persistent issue, that they should actually fucking do something or NOTIFY someone about it. Not just stand, stare and say "someone is PROBABLY fixing it." Rant over. At least the popcorn is delicious.

Three hours long, but I was clapping and cheering rooting at the end. If you had to read Homer's The Odyssey in English Lit in high school, then you know the story line. If you've never heard of this story well you're in for a surprise. So many big name actors in this movie. Zendaya sure did get a lot of press for the film, but she had a few appearances. All were good. I wonder which Zendaya scene Christopher Nolan deemed perfect done in one take? Was it her last scene because that made me sad. Was it the scene before by the ocean shore. Anne Hathaway as Penelope played the perfect queen, the bitch Queen. Tom Holland had great scenes too, respectful to his mom, the queen even though she was a mean unsupportive bitch to her own son. Robert Pattison as Antinous, you slimy pu$$y, I hated your character, you did good at playing the scaredy cat at the end. Matt Damon as Odysseus whoa bravo. Oscar nominations are headed your way. Way to go to show them acting chops. Gen X still in the game. Cherlize Therón, you Lotus flower witch. Great costumes. Your scenes were flawless. Lupita Nyong'o the Nubian queen who played Helen of Troy. I was shooketh after your scene. Jon Bernthal, supporting actor nominations should be headed your way. Menelaus, were friend or foe? "Grab a blanket, bring a picnic and watch a film from KQED's "Truly CA" documentary series-FREE in…read morethe Oakland Museum of California gardens during "First Fridays After Five." This past Friday (August 3rd), featured "Gumby Dharma", a documentary on Gumby's creator, Art Clokey. I first learned about this event by reading about it in the Chronicle on Thursday. I have been a longtime Gumby fan (since the 4th grade) so when I read that there was a documentary on Gumby's creator being viewed I had to go check it out. Sunset Cinema is a wonderful (and cheap) way to spend a Friday night while getting a little cultured. This feature documentary started at 8:30. Get there early to pop a squat on the grass and indulge in the variety of refreshments, wine and coffee drinks all complimentary thanks to the event's sponsors. Also, if you took the time to fill out a short questionaire, you got a free, posable Gumby figurine. How could I refuse? There were even Gumby-shaped shortbread cookies. Prior to airing the documentary, there was a short Q&A with the film's producers and then another short Q&A after the film, answering audience questions. So next month, be sure to pack a picnic and a blanket and prepare to cozy up to loved ones while catching the next documentary in the Sunset Cinema series: Mighty Warriors of Comedy (starting at 7:30). October 5th (@ 6:30) will feature "Piece By Piece", a documentary on San Francisco's graffiti artists. I wont be missing that one! And San Francisco residents, don't let the fact that this event is located in Oakland turn you off. It's super easy to get here from the Bay Bridge (20 minutes total) and there is plenty of parking. Plus, did I mention that it was FREE? Perfect event for the kiddies!!
