For 8 years of successful business down on Shore Drive, Citrus is a breakfast must-go in the 757. Many local residents have long anticipated arrival of their expansion and it's finally here in heart of Renaissance Place. It's the same shopping center that holds two of my favorite spots: Brother's Pizza and O'Yummy Sushi. Beachy exterior and sleek interior. Finding parking shouldn't be a problem. Full-service bar right when you walk in. The whole dining area consists of mostly booth seats. Small flat screens tvs in every corner. For my drink I ordered the Mexican Coffee. If you like coffee, hot cocoa, and alcohol this is for you. For entrees I ordered the Citrus pancakes. The orange glaze never fails. My friend ordered the Lynnhaven with french toast. And both were made perfect. Overall, I love coming here not only for the food and drinks...though libations and breakfast is how you get a day started. It's really the laid-back environment, excellent service, and the VB feel that keeps me coming back. I support this restaurant and hope they'll thrive in the next upcoming years. My Grandma heard of this place from diners, dive-ins, & drives and has been taking us there for years now. I went down to Virginia Beach with a friend for a day or two and decided we wanted breakfast before going to the beach. I told her we should go here. We were greeted and sat quickly and our server was there quite fast. I got a basic orange juice mimosa and my friend had the heat wave. I got the citrus pancakes and she got some omelet. Overall it's a great restaurant and definitely worth stopping for. Cheap prices but good food. read more

I love me some breakfast so my boyfriend suggested we try out the new Citrus location. Gee, why didn't I think of that? So we drive on over and I'm glad to see that it is in a different part of town from the original Citrus since so many people had been worried that the two locations are close to each other. The place is packed considering it was the weekend, but there is plenty of parking versus the original spot. Once inside, there's a good amount of people waiting for a spot as well. Luckily, boyfriend and I have perfect timing in beating a big party to check in. We waited a good 15 minutes in the waiting area where I happily caught up with some news and sports with the TV screens you can see in the bar area. We were seated in a booth and everything is spaced out pretty well so you're not on top of another table. Our waitress was super friendly and took care of us pretty well. I ordered the famous Citrus pancakes and an Orchard mimosa. Everything was up to par as with the original place so I killed the pancakes with my appetite. I also got some hash browns that I requested cooked well done. The waitress even suggested to have the browns spread out so they would be extra crispy.... loved it. Overall, I think the layout is better thought out in this location and plenty more parking. It sucks to wait a while, but it's worth it for some unique food and drinks. read more

Citrus: a major swing and a miss. Wait time was about 45 minutes, not terrible for a good brunch place. However, this is NOT a good brunch place, and definitely isn't worth the wait or a return trip back. Food was BLAND. Hash browns, grits, and eggs were left completely unseasoned - as in absolutely no seasoning at all including salt and pepper. The pancakes and French toast were ordinary. Ordered the Bloody Mary, and again, no flavor whatsoever other than plain tomato juice. There have been very few times in my life that I didn't want to finish my cocktail, and this was one of them. I hate leaving bad reviews, especially for local spots, but in this case the 1 star review is completely warranted. Flavorless food. Less than friendly service. Underwhelming atmosphere (think: any chain restaurant). In a word: TASTELESS. Hampton Roads has a number of brunch spots that have more to offer. If you're looking for tasty local spots try Bay Local, Bee and the Biscuit, Baker's Crust, Simple Eats, Waterman's, Rustic Spoon, etc. 10/10 make better food at home read more

No complaints here. I had a half BLT and a cup of she crab soup and fresh grapefruit. I am a grapefruit addict so when I saw you could order a fresh 1/2 cut grapefruit I was like YESSSS!!! The she crab soup was sooooo good. Creamy sweet and hot. It was delightful! The blt was also really good. It was some kinda pick 2 for $6.99 it was worth it. The grapefruit was cut all fancy and put back on top of the skin. My friend got the eggs Benedict with crab she loves that dish. Place was busy but it was a controlled chaos I would say. Poor food. Average drinks. Rude staff. If the hostess had told us the place was closing we would have gone elsewhere. Alas, we were seated served, and immediately and before we finished eating the servers were grabbing our silverware, plates, drinks that were 3/4 full, and clearly giving us the bum rush. When we asked if the place was closing a very sassy, very young, very tiny server told us that we had been told before we were seated. Everyone at the table exchanged A Glance because definitely **had not been told**. I said as much and the server walked off after rolling her eyes then threw her hands into the air, stomped back past telling me that I was rude (because I disagreed re whether we had been informed of the closing) and stomped off again. We could not get out of there fast enough and we will not be among the hordes of Mimosa drinking beach dweller standing in line for more poor service, expensive and sub-par drinks, and bland food. Better and bigger. The entire place looks incredible and stunning. The decor is spot on, its clean, simple and chic. Love the colour pallete, its vibrant and almost delicious as the food. The outside patio is my favourite feature of the restaurant, its cozy, spacious and ideal for big group luncheon. I've been in the Citrus on Shore drive many times and its always a joy to visit the place. This place knows how to make their customers happy and satisfied. Quite honestly, I've never been disappointed. It is my first time to dine in here and I love it. I'm glad that the management decide to open a new branch because this place rocks. Probably, one of the best breakfast joints in Hampton roads. I'm into local restaurants and I support them as much as possible especially this brand. It can't go wrong. Today I came with a friend for brunch. As usual I ordered my fave CITRUS PANCAKE with a side of eggs and sausage patties. It was spectacular, the pancake itself tasted absolutely divine. The flavor was consistent and the orange glazed makes it even more pallettable. I enjoyed every bite of it and I can't be more satisfied. On the other hand, the customer service was simply terrific. Well I was expecting something great, based on the reviews. We were lucky, no wait! The best I can tell the food is no better than Denny's. But Citrus serves alcohol. I ordered the Lynhaven, 2 eggs over medium (received over easy) 2 very crisp bacon rashes (received wiggly bacon... Sent back twice to get crisp) asked for Crisp hash Browns. Specified cooked on both sides (got cooked on 1 side) . French toast ok, but didn't really have a custardly interior, (wasn't soaked long enough) coffee ok, but too weak for me. All in all no better than Denny's. Although Citrus does have better decor, and serves mamosas. My advice, if there is a wait, go across the street to Hardee's. read more

LUCKILY, when my bf and I walked in, we saw 2 empty spots at the bar which we grabbed (self-seating at the bar). The bartender immediately greeted us. We ordered the citrus pancakes which is around $11-12, and comes with the two large pancakes and your choice of 2 eggs with either sausage patties, sausage links, or bacon strips. The pancakes were HUGE and fluffy. This was the highlight of the meal. You can taste the hint of nutmeg, which is nice. The citrus glaze is just made of orange juice, with other additions (I watched the Diner's, Drive-in's, and Dive's episode on their website). However, it did go well with the pancakes. The sausage patties seemed like they were made in-house, which is nice. The eggs, however, were not my cup of tea. I love eggs, but these were weirdly too light and over-beaten? They were unpleasant to eat and watery... The crab benedict was really good. I don't usually like hollandaise sauce, but they did a good job. I came in today with one of my friends and our waitress had zero personality. She greeted our table by asking us if we were ready to order not even two minutes after we sat down. I'm a waitress myself, and I feel as though that sort of thing should definitely be addressed because it's definitely bad customer service. I'd never greet my table by making them feel rushed. I ordered a tropical mimosa and it wasn't very good, either. The mimosas are priced very well though, I will say that. The food was okay, but nothing special. It only took us a year to try this place out and it did not disappoint! We came on a Friday and only waited maybe 15 minutes. The omelette was so light and fluffy. I was hesitant to get it with onions, but it was delicious. It comes with bacon, but I asked for it without bacon. Salsa is on the side. The other member of my party got French toast, fresh squeezed orange juice, scrambled eggs and sausage. I didn't try any of his, but he ate all of it and side it was really good. Our waitress Ashely was terrific. She was very friendly, happy, polite and just all over great. When I said no bacon in my omelette, she asked if it was because I don't eat pork, which was my reason, and she said she'll make sure she puts an "allergy" note on it so nothing on my plate was cross contaminated. read more

This review is only based on the host's inability to run a wait and communicate accurately. We arrived and asked the wait. I was told 20-25 minutes. At 35 minutes I checked the status of our table and was told there were 4 groups ahead of us, and it would be another 20-25 minutes. Plus she had an attitude with me and said "well we've been on a 45 minute wait since before you arrived so..." So, what? That's not what I was told. If I'd been told an accurate time in the first place I would have stayed, but between the inaccurate time and the attitude we're going somewhere else. read more

I had to try this place on vacation after seeing it on Triple D. First, the service is top notch. All the servers and hostesses are incredibly kind and attentive whether they are serving you directly or not. Our server gave us great food recommendations and checked in often to make sure everything was tasty. The food was also pretty great! My husband ordered corned beef hash and the server prepped him that it would be pretty amazing and nothing likes he is used to! That was spot on; their hash is made in house and my hubby said it was THE BEST he has ever had...fresh and super flavorful. I had the pumpkin pancakes with pecan glaze and they were sooooo delicious. Again, the server prepped me well in advance that it'd be like no pancake I've had before as it was a lighter batter. I could eat the glaze by the gallon. I also indulged in a mimosa that was $3 and strong! Awesome. We decided to go back for breakfast the day after. I had the mango almond French toast and it was the perfect combination of ingredients. It was fresh and not overly sweet. I don't want to ramble too much further, but definitely add this place to your list. It's very clean and I was always told to judge a place by its upkeep of bathroom---it also passes that test lol. The food at citrus is amazing, the service at citrus not so much. I've been eating at this location since they opened and have learned quickly most of the servers are sub-par. You will most likely have an empty cup and it's normal to see the waitresses sitting around chit chatting instead of waiting on you. I have honestly had an issue with service EVERY time I have went in. So back to the food..... you can find anything from a crab omelette to a Jim Whites "health conscious" meal. Let's not forget about their French toasts!!!! All equally as good. They make amazing bloody Mary's and I've heard their mimosas are just as good. They had the tables spaced out, everyone was masked and sanitizer was available. I was happy to see they were taking the necessary precautions. Citrus was Featured on FoodNetworks DDD, so we made this a must stop while on our Annual TV Foodie Road Trip. First off the restaurant is so welcoming, bright, friendly. There was no wait on a Wednesday around 10am. The waitres was very sweet, knowledgeable and attentive. We ordered was had been featured on the show. -the Citrus Pancakes w/Citrus Glaze, pineapple n banana slices. They come w/ 2 cakes and a large amount of glaze on the side. Cakes alone tasted great and that fresh squeezed orange glaze...oooo why needs maple syrup. I normally dislike pancakes I find them boring but not today. Wowza I need more of the now! -Side of bacon, good I mean it's bacon cooked right. -Fresh Squeezed Orange Juice great and reasonable price. My pancakes came with 2 eggs so I asked to poach them and bring a side of Hollandaise. Eggs were a bit under but o that sauce. It was the best most flavorful Hollandaise I ever had. I was looking for anything to dip into it. Crackers and pancakes worked. O almost forgot I also ordered 1 of the Soup Specials. -Smoked Gouda Soup. Quite shrines when it tomato soup arrived but apparently they forgot to mention that it was tomato soup w/cheese in it. Very tasty and would be great in any other day but anything would just pale in comparison to those pancakes. I really wanted to also order the Softshell Crab Benedict but it was $22 and I knew I couldn't eat another bite. However I hear good things. I loved it here, such a great overall experience. Came to Citrus on a Sunday afternoon for brunch with a group of maybe 13, I can't remember the exact number but there was a lot of us. The staff was very accommodating and though there was a long weight, it wasn't bad for the amount of people they had to service and the bar was accessible while we waited. Once seated, our waitress Ashley came and took our drink orders and informed us of the specials. She was great with answering our questions, handling our orders, and her overall service. If you love breakfast this is the spot for you!! When my BFF asked if I wanted to go to breakfast here I couldn't wait! I looked at the menu online to be prepared for our morning adventure. This location is amazing. The restaurant itself is a great size and there seemed to be ample parking. She arrived first so when I was in the parking lot I let her know I was there so she could inform the hostess. I got the soft shell crab benedict with hash browns. It seemed like it wasn't long before our food arrived and mine looked superb. I could not wait to cut into it!! Citrus is a place that dares to be great, but underperforms. Before coming to this establishment, I had high hopes given the interesting menu. Coming in, it resembled a First Watch (this is not a bad thing), but going to our seats, there was little care to make sure the place looked pristine. The service was good and I had no complaints about it. The menu features the usual brunch items (benedicts, egg dishes, breakfast burritos, etc) and touts using fresh ingredients. After receiving my food, I was underwhelmed. The food quality is more of that of a diner line cook, versus food that is more refined. It hurts my feelings to see that fresh and local ingredients could actually be made to look and taste worse than their original form. Leaving this place, I started to question how this place received such good ratings -- maybe low standards in breakfast in hampton roads??? I might try this again, but my egg-spectations will be lower and I hope to be hungry enough to eat anything. read more

Our usual brunch spot had a wait time of an hour and a half to two hours so we decided to venture out and try a different brunch restaurant and ended up at Citrus. When we first arrived, we were greeted kindly by the hostess who told us it would be a 45 minute wait, which was fine, that's what we're used to for brunch. We sat by a table near the bar in the waiting area. A lady behind the bar came out to take drink orders from everyone in the waiting area - since we haven't been here before, we asked for a drink menu, which she delivered promptly. Then, she never returned. Why give someone a drink menu and then never come back to take their drink order?? Finally, after about forty minutes, we were seated and we placed our drink and food order. Everything came out within ten minutes. Pretty much, this place is the equivalent to Waffle House but with a full bar. It's bright and airy inside, the mimosas were great, but the food was just okay and the service left much to be desired. read more

Think of a fancy IHOP with food that's 10x better. This is usually a "Go To" spot for people who want delicious breakfast food and most of all mimosas. For all the times I've been here for brunch we would have to wait, that explains why this place is so awesome. Mimosas while we wait is the way to do it. I always start off with a mimosa but my other family members RAVE about the bloody Mary's!
