Well I was excited about eating here after my hour wait only to get a spoiled batch of pumpkin pancakes. The waitress bought them to the table they were mushy in the inside and sour. I brought it to her attention and requested French toast. The waitress came back and thanked me for letting them know because the manager tested the batter and confirmed it was bad.:( I pray I don't get sick. After ordering French toast I had to eat my eggs and sausage until the French toast arrived. The bill was $57 and the manager did nothing for my inconvenience talk about poor customer service and didn't come out to apologize for selling a spoiled product. I brought that to my waitress attention she took the bill and our form of payment and I shared with her the manger should have done something to right the wrong. Only to hear a second story that the manger said the batter wasn't spoiled and that is was an ingredient left out that cause the batter to be sour. Yeah right I've cooked food in a restaurant setting for years when it's bad it's bad. Beware and be careful I won't return because clearly the manger should know when food is bad or if it's not being made properly. I hope the owner reads this and takes the steps to keep all safe especially during these times. I will monitor myself because I know you can get horribly sick if food is not kept properly. This is usually a great place, but there have been some hiccups here and there. First of all, it is EXTREMELY busy! The wait is usually 15-20 mins! Kind of annoying, but I guess it's something you have to deal with at a lot of restaurants. Then, sometimes I will order a drink-while I'm waiting- at the counter and I've been told a couple times by some employees to move so that customers who are eating can sit in my spot. I was really mad about that considering I was a paying customer and that I was trying to enjoy a latte I had JUST ordered. Thirdly, the waitresses are usually very nice and very accommodating once you get seated. I'll definitely give them credit for that. Now,the breakfast and brunch food is very good! First time having breakfast here. My BFF brought me here to have my Birthday brunch. Very nice place we sat outside since that's the first available seating. Inside was all taken and we already waited to be seated for 45mins which was the estimated time for our wait. Glad we sat outside to enjoy the beautiful weather in November. Outside seatings were as nice as the inside as well. Service was excellent we had several servers that's constantly checked on us making sure to get our drinks our orders etc... We both order the lump crabmeat omelette (no bacon for mine) with extra fried hashbrown and toast. We also ordered 1 pancake to share glad we did. I think I'm a pancake connoisseur since I make a killer pancake myself and I've got to say it was awesome ...yum. If only all old Ruby Tuesday's were simply repurposed into something like Citrus has done they would not be in such dire straits as a going concern... it's almost magical how nice they had made it. We went in on a weekend for brunch. My only complaint was that it is very easy to wait an hour or more for a spot. Obviously this is due to high demand and positive word of mouth as well as great food. We were sat outside and the service was prompt. There were three of us and we all rhoroughly enjoyed what we ordered. I had crab eggs benedict which was really amazing. They had soft shell crab eggs benedict for $22 and though it was tempting, I decided to get my original choice and some drinks. The $3 mimosas were great- not too weak and not too strong. The two Food network Citrus pancakes were fluffy and the glaze on top was heavenly. The French toasts and pork sausage were excellent. The kid menu had a cute Mickey Mouse shaped pancake as part of the sampler. The coffee was fine, and was refilled generously with a smile. The size portions were big. They had healthy and appetizing options on the menu. We will come back to try them. The decor had a luminous, sleek, relaxing and luxurious feel. They also had a pleasant outdoor patio. You can eat under the shade. The restaurant and restrooms were extremely clean. Their waiting area was pleasant and comfortable. They gave us a buzzer while we waited. They have two large TV screens. The service was perfect. The waitresses and waiters were pretty, attentive and friendly. It was easy and free to park. It has been our favorite breakfast place around here. Having enjoyed breakfast at the original location last summer, I was excited to try out Citrus 2.0, especially since this location boasts a larger parking lot. The decor is bright and cheery, with lots of natural light thanks to the floor-to-ceiling windows. Service is equally as cheery, but that's about where the positives end for me. I figured there'd be a long wait on a Saturday morning, but didn't anticipate it being an hour and fifteen minutes long. During peak summertime brunch hours at the last location, my boyfriend and I only waited about 30 minutes. This was officially the longest I've ever waited for a meal here in Hampton Roads, and had it not been for the friendly bar service & tableside drink service for those waiting at the outside tables, I surely would have died. Note: stick with the regular Mimosa ($3). The specialty ones are super-sweet, over 2x the price of the original, and don't have quite as much bubbly. After waiting so dang long, I was really hoping the quality of the food here would match the quality of the food at the other location, but I was wrong. Our food came out in a reasonable amount of time, but was room temperature. Had we not waited so long, I would have asked for a remake (room-temperature grits have such an unpleasant texture), but at this point, we'd been in the restaurant for an hour and a half, and I didn't want to wait any longer to eat. I'd be happy to give this location another try during non-peak hours, but will not be back again for Saturday morning breakfast. Unless I wasn't hungry. More information to follow shortly. A policy at this place regarding use of the bar made me never want to come back. The policy regarding the use of the " dining top" aka bar. Aka place to drink. Not just eat. However you can't spend money on drinks and drink them at the "dining top" only eat at it. Yet liquor is shown and it's presented as a bar. What ? So I can spend money here on drinks and can't even sit at the bar and drink it ? What ? So I can understand you don't buy anything and can't sit at the bar, but the fact that you are being a custom and then are pretty much told thanks for buying these drinks now go wait in the corner. Is pretty much a way to tell you thanks chump now get out of here. Then after addressing this ridiculous policy , I got into an argument with how they present this policy and also don't have any kind of customer service skills to explain it in a better way or softer way. Let me boil down the policy for you. Citrus: We want to make money off this area that we made a shitty policy for that looks a lot like a bar with liquor on display and other bar features but we're going to call this area a "dining top" why? Came in the 3rd day it was open. The atmosphere is nice but you definitely pay for it in your price of food. Just my wife and I ate for lunch, each had 1 drink and each had a sandwhich and our lunch bill was $55. That is insane. I ordered the Avacado Turkey Club with Onion Rings. Now when I asked the server what were the choices of sides she stated Onion rings was one of them. So I ordered Onion Rings, never did she state the Onion Rings were a dollar extra, we did not know this til we got a bill. The Onion Rings had a good size to them but were completely raw in the middle. My Avacado Turkey Club came out and there were no Avacado on the club. When I told the server she said she would get me some avacado. 5 minutes later she came out with Avacado on a plate, set it down and walked away. So I ordered a $13 Avacado Sandwhich that came out with NO Avacado, then when it was brought out to me on a plate, which I had to put it on myself. So I took the sandwich apart, put the avacado on it and re made the sandwich. So basically I paid $13 to make my own sandwich and eat raw onion rings. I can do that at home for much cheaper My wife got the Chicken Salad Sandwich. She enjoyed the taste of her sandwhich, however the amount of Chicken salad that was on the bread was not even enough to cover the sandwich. It had about 2 ounces of chicken salad in the middle and that was it. When she asked for more, the server said it was already pre portioned out and would be extra if we wanted more. So again we paid $13 for 2 ounces of meat. Last time I checked I thought we lived in Virginia Beach, not Miami Beach. I did not mention the cost if drinks. $9 for an Orange Crush. Crushes are cheaper at the high end restaurants on the boardwalk at the beach. It cost them about $1.17 to make an orange crush & charge $9.... $2 higher then oceanfront restaurants. Again the atmosphere is nice, the decor is nice, music is good, however you pay for their expense in your food cost. So if you like to wait 45 minutes-Hour, pay high high dollar for low low amount of product then this is the place for you... There's not a lot I can say about Citrus other than it's great. I don't eat beef or pork so the fact that they have turkey, chicken, seafood options for breakfast is great. I haven't had the mimosas but the juice options are really tasty. But better than the food is the customer service. They have THE BEST customer service ever. NYE I came to this place after spinning my butt off at My Ride (see my review). This place was packed. Not surprising since I'm sure a ton of people had the day off and wanted to try this new location out. I've not been to the original Citrus on Shore, so this was my first time over all. The location is really nice, right on the corner of Great neck and Laskin so you can't really miss it. When you walk it the bar is right to your right, and then all open seating from there on. I believe they also have a patio section you can sit at, but since it was cold, so that was closed. The only thing I didn't enjoy about this location was the fact that we had 3 people in our party and since not every one was there, we couldn't be seated. I just think I would have sat and had a few drinks while waiting for her, instead of sitting on a chair in the front. Finally, our 3rd guest arrived and we were sat. I had a bellini which was super sweet and tasty. If you're not into sweet mimosa's DONT GET THIS. But I loved it, especially bc I love anything that's peach. The waitress came over took our drink orders and gave us the specials of the day. I ended up ordering one of them, and so did my friend. We also indulged with a oversized cranberry orange cupcake with cream cheese frosting. It was as good as it sounds. If you want a place that serves succulent fresh breakfast and brunch with the possibility of the waiters making fun of you behind your back, then this is the place! The food was delicious, the mimosas were fresh with the taste of fresh squeezed fruits. The eggs Benedict were perfectly poached and the creamy hollandaise sauce was almost life changing. Oh Citrus... I had such high hopes of your food after reading reviews of yours and your sister location. Lucky to have gotten there pretty early so we were seated right away. We had driven past the day before to try it and it was packed with lines out the door around the 11:30 time period. I ordered the lump crab eggs Benedict and the other half had VA beach croissant washed down with coffee and grapefruit juice. The coffee was pretty good and the other half noted that the grapefruit juice was fresh and not bitter. Excited to get our food which had great presentation, I was sadly disappointed because my food was mildly warm so I got to watch the other half eat his meal while waiting for them to replace my meal. The other half stated he would have given a 6/10 review for his sandwich. It was on the cooler side and difficult to eat because the toppings slide off very easily. Finally, I get my food and while it is hot this time the flavor is sadly lacking. A little salt, a little pepper and hot sauce... It's still just ehhh. Not worth the price at all. i'm not the biggest fan of this place. i believe the food is just...average. on one of my visits here, i decided to get their special of the day: Red Velvet Pancakes with Scrambled Eggs, Hash Browns, and Bacon. as you can see, the pancakes were just brown and they poured icing and white chocolate chips on the top. presentation wise, this was a fail. however, the pancakes were not THAT bad. i would really only recommend coming for the cheap mimosas. read more

This was my fiance's and I's first time eating here and it was amazing. We were seated right away and were told of the specials by our waitress Ashley. I had the western omelet with hashbrowns and he had the shrimp/crab eggs benedict. We did not have to wait long for our food at all and the rum runner mimosa was wonderful to sip on while we waited. Both dishes were very good, but after having a bite of my fiance's, I would definitely recommend the shrimp/crab benedict. Everyone was very nice and the restaurant is very open amd bright. Poached egg, spinach on english muffin. (Market price 21.99) 25.08 with tax included. The crab has a somewhat bitter taste to it, and shell left on. We love Citrus and are so happy they opened a location next to our house. We previously frequented the Shore Drive location, and loved it. Besides being closer to our house, we like the new Citrus better because the parking situation is vastly improved. There will still be high wait times, because this place is so popular. Luckily, you can grab a mimosa and hang out until you get a table - it's definitely worth the wait. On to the food... It's freakin' delicious! The pancakes and amazing (thick, fluffy, and hearty), the breakfast sandwiches (namely the turkey-avo croissant) and burritos are fantastic, and the omelettes are savory and fluffy. I freaking love Citrus despite the intense wait times! The service is quick, clean, and attentive. The mimosas are fantastic, and I sadly feel the buzz when I'm drinking a few before being sat due to an empty stomach. The food is excellent! Their benedicts are so delicious. After four attempts to eat at this place, we finally made it! Bad news, I think we psyched ourselves out too much before dining here. Let me explain...after reading the great food reviews and looking at the mouth drooling pictures, my husband and I wanted to go here to eat. IT WAS A MUST! The first time we tried to go here, the wait for a table of two was roughly 50 minutes. The hostess told us that if we were willing to drive to the restaurant's second location, there was a 10-15 minute wait but she would call them to let them know we were coming so that when we got there, we would be seated right away. Well, not only were we not seated when we got there, we were told that it would be a 40 minute wait! I informed the hostess that the first location should have called ahead our reservations and I was told that she did get the reservation but in the 10 minutes that it took us to drive there, the second location had many people walk in...what is the point of the first restaurant calling ahead to reserve a table if it isn't held?...not only was I hungry, now I was annoyed. The option to move to the second location shouldn't have even been suggested if they don't have a proper system in place to honor the people who go out of their way to drive. We were so put off that we left and ended up going some place else. I count this as attempt #1 and attempt #2. The third attempt was when my mother-in-law was in town for the July 4th holiday. Again, knowing this place got rave reviews, we tried to go here but were met with an early closing sign. We got there about 30 minutes before they closed and they were still packed! A woman sitting in the waiting area said she had bought food to go and it was well worth it. We passed on the option to order out to take our mother out for a nice sit down restaurant. The fourth attempt was when our friend was in town to visit. We arrived around 10:00AM on a Saturday morning and the wait for a table of three was already 45 minutes. To our dismay, our friend did not want to wait around for a table so we went somewhere else...so you can see how the anticipation to dine at this place has really been built up over the past few weeks. The next attempt was a SUCCESS!! FINALLY! My husband and I came here this past weekend for brunch after going to the VA Beach Cars and Coffee meetup. My husband got the Triple Grilled Cheese sandwich (American, Provolone, and Swiss), opting to add the Applewood Smoked Bacon for an extra $2.00 and chose the regular french fries as his side. The grilled cheese was a bit underwhelming. If I am going to pay $9.00 for a grilled cheese from a restaurant, I expect it to be ooey-gooey and oozing with cheese...but it was as if there was only one slice of each cheese. SOrry to say but I could've made a better one at home. I ordered the VA Beach Croissant (Roast beef, avocado, mango, lettuce, jalapeno & goat cheese on a croissant) with a side of Sweet Potato Fries. I can understand the attempt on melding all the different flavor profiles and textures...but this did not quite work for me. Each bite was a different experience - creamy and buttery from the avocado, sweet from the mango, spicy and tangy from the jalapeno, creamy and tart(?) from the goat cheese. I did love the sweet potato fries; it was perfectly crispy and lightly dusted with cinnamon sugar...the best sweet potato fries I've had so far! TLDR; I think this place was a bit overhyped to us. I recently visited Citrus for the 2nd time because I was craving their corn beef hash and I had a great experience the first time. This was my first time coming on the weekend and I also brought someone that had never been before. So I'll start with the PROS- their parking lot is extremely small but they have Valet parking on the weekend, not sure the cost because I parked across the street for free. The have an indoor waiting area and although it was very busy the wait was brief. Their in-house corn beef hash is delicious...when served hot and they have a fantastic selection of mimosas. Now the CONS- Our waitress was attentive until we ordered our food. She forgot part of my order and never offered condiments (I had steak) or even checked on us without us having to flag her down. Our order of French toast had part of a plastic wrapper underneath it and the food was lukewarm. What's even more disappointing was the corn beef hash..after I had ranted and raved about how amazing it was, the order we received was subpar...a plate of salty, cold meat & potatoes. Heard so many great things about this place my experience was lackluster. We had a big group and the wait was an hour. We didn't mind waiting but the one hour wait became almost two hours. It wasn't the staff's fault as people were still sitting at what would be our table, so we understood the situation. We finally got sat and our waitress was very nice and as helpful as she could be for our group. FOOD: The food was good. Have I had better? Yes, but for the price and presentation of food, this place is satisfactory. I got the shrimp and crab Benedict. However, their mimosas are delicious and I definitely recommend the one with melon in it (forgot the name). SERVICE: Although the hosting staff, food and drinks were great, I cannot give 5 stars because of the food runners that were helping our waitress bring out our food. They were talking over each other, on top of being rude because we didn't respond right away. If we can't hear what dish it is we aren't gonna say it's ours, obviously. One of the food runners gave my boyfriend an attitude when he said he didn't mind taking his messed up order (He ordered the Lynnhaven with bacon. They had in their hands the Lynnhaven with patties), to which she replied "well then that's not your order.." while rolling her eyes at us. We also had ANOTHER food runner roll her eyes at my boyfriend when she came out to give him the correct order. Service like that makes me uninterested to come back. I understand we had a big group during a busy time, but we shouldn't be treated like nuisances for being paid customers. Where to begin ...........on entering citrus you're greeted by very friendly staff , the decor is fantastic and aptly suits the name citrus. It's very open and vibrant. On ordering food I couldn't make my mind up because everything looked delicious. I opted for the fried chicken eggs Benedict (scrambled) in a biscuit with sausage gravy, my girlfriend chose the citrus pancakes that were featured on DDD. Whilst waiting for the food the staff were curious and catered to our needs in regards to drinks ( refills ). Then the food came - OMG never before have I had anything that was cooked so perfectly. (Usually I will find a flaw - this was flawless) eggs cooked perfectly , chicken succulent and the gravy and biscuits were to die for. The hash browns !!!! Holy crap these were amazing crispy on the outside with a buttery moist centre MMmmmmmmm!. I tried my girlfriends pancakes , and without shadow of a doubt they were the best pancakes I have ever had , nice and fluffy , the citrus sauce really sets them off. It was like an explosion of awesomeness in my mouth !!!!!!. Needless to say this is by far my favourite breakfast place in America and if I could live there I would , failing that I guarantee I will be visiting there ALOT more often!!!!! read more

We went to the shore drive location on Sunday 6/5/2022 for brunch. The back bar was closed. The wait staff was too small, the hostess was a young girl who looked to be about 14. We had 2 dogs and wanted to sit outside and waited over 2 hours, but were never seated. The one mimosa we had was good and the food looked good, but there were loads of empty tables and the hostess never seated us even though we checked with her every 3 minutes (4 times). After about 2 hours 15 minutes we left and went somewhere else. It was a terrible experience and no one even noticed because they were all too busy to notice and had a young girl in charge of seating who obviously was told to only seat 3 or 4 of the many outside tables. Each of the 5 times we asked for a time we would be seated we were told in 30 minutes. Obviously no one had a clue and didn't know how to manage customer wait time expectations. Their she crab soup was middle of the road but their special burger, the smoked Gouda burger, was spot on medium rare and delicious. Citrus was lovely! And the name makes me crave fresh fruit juice, for sure. We went for a Sunday brunch and the wait was about forty minutes, which is less than ideal... however, at least there was a bit of shade and sun cover while we waited, and the day was nice. It wasn't too bad. The food was delicious! And the variety beyond the classics/specialties was amazing. They even had a small vegan menu, as well as low carb/low starch/gluten free options, plenty of healthy high-protein fare, breakfast and lunch offerings. It's one of the first breakfast menus that I've seen with mashed sweet potato and beets available! Citrus also has a full range of beverages, from fresh squeezed juice, to mixed drinks, to coffee, to espresso, tea, etc. I really appreciate that from a full-service eatery. My partner liked his hot coffee, and I thought the cappuccino was okay, if a little on the milky side. Our order was taken in good time, and our food arrived promptly. Everything was very fresh. However, getting a hold of the waitress after that was a little difficult because she would be in and out of the area so quickly without stopping by. I do have to say, this is my absolute favorite french toast! It's magical! Thick, chewy, fluffy slices of proper loaf bread, fried to a golden perfection. Sweet, soft, delicious, and so much better than the kind made with regular sliced bread. I had the "cross fit" lunch with marinated portabellos, beets, turkey breast, fresh spinach, and hummus with a side of mashed sweet potato. It was incredibly filling, and super healthy. I was very impressed with Citrus! The only negative thing about this restaurant was that we waited to be seated for almost 45 minutes on a Tuesday morning; which in essence just validated how good this place was. Our server was very pleasant, knowledgable of the menu, & accurate. My daughter ordered the mango almond pancakes and I ordered the shrimp and crabmeat eggs Benedict. It was amazing!
