The arugula and roasted red peppers were a good accent with the crusty bread. The side salad was very flavorful and fresh. My friend got a recommendation to come here for brunch but honestly we probably should of stayed closer to the hotel. It had great outdoor seating and the service was fine but the food was soso. I probably had the best dish which wasn't even a breakfast item, I went with the burger. But my friends all got egg dishes and I'd stead clear the frittata just had the ingredients piles on top no mixed with the eggs and the eggs were kind of rubbery. The scrambled eggs were worse in terms of rubberness, not light and Fluffy possible overcooked. We split the pancakes as an app and those were fine the whipped cream was super thick, pancakes full and flavorful. This bar has so many vibes. You can have a mellow and relaxed dinner on the ground floor, mingle and meet people in the lounge area, or take in the sun and have a drink on the roof top. All 3 floors have areas for tables seating. The short rib nachos were very good, but a little small for a shareable appetizer. The meat was tasty and tender but it was the cheese that stoll the show (3 kinds of cheeses!). Our bartender, Tara, was amazing. She made great drink recommendations, was fast, attentive and friendly. The bar and eating area were very crowded but she was organized and took care of everyone with a smile! Great place, I will go back soon. So why not 5 stars? Nice place, easy to get to great HH Monday-Friday starting at lunch time! We love their fritto miso platter, meatballs, pizza and salads are good too. Their appetizer is for sure their strong game, ghe entrees at ok. So between the HH deals and appetizers, they get 5 stars but the entrees they get 3. Came to downstairs bar and dining a few times and was fine. The bf and I went to rooftop bar first time ever last Friday night around 11 -1130ish pm and was so terrible. We went to bar and blonde waitress rudely told him they are closing up and has limited drinks which was disappointing considering hours say open til 2am and serving frozen drinks. I specifically came for frose. We got a beer instead meanwhile the table of guys next to us has full waitress service from the same waitress. City Bistro you are just okay in my book, its not that the food was horrible but it wasn't anything memorable. Price wise -especially when you look at the price tag, I was just disappointed. For a night out on the town with the girls, I ordered two appetizers as my meal - the chicken meatballs and the garlic shrimp. The miss on the food definitely comes from the shrimp which were overcooked unfortunately while the chicken meatballs were decent. Overall I would recommend saving you money in this place to grab a drink or to stop by for its' rooftop in the summer. I recently came to City Bistro on a Sunday, during brunch hours. My girlfriend and I started with trying their Mimosa & Bloody Mary. Both were delicious. The mimosa was the perfect juice to alchohol ratio I felt and the bloody Mary was a nice spice level. After these drinks, I also ordered a Sunday Runner cocktail. Which was basically made of rum, pineapple juice, and orange juice. It was also good, but at $10, I felt I got more value in my $4 Mimosa and $4 Bloody Mary. Regardless, all the bruch drinks we still delicious. We then went to order some Avocado Toast, with an egg on it. This was a nice appetizer choice I felt. It was light and tasty, and we were still able to drink. No dinners or other meals ordered that day. I will have to come back to try other menu options, as they did look great. I really want to try the rooftop bar out, but it was not open that specific Sunday when we went. I'll wait till summertime to come back to try their dinner meals and experience more drinks on the rooftop bar. But, for the inside area, drinks, and appetizers, this place is very nice. read more

It is a tradition of ours to come here for the great service, atmosphere, and most important, WATER. The water here is unlike any other you've had. It's exquisite! We came here for the first time 8 months ago, had only the water, and it was life changing. Before this moment, we've been stressed from work overload but after that first sip, we felt reborn. We just knew we had to come back. Within those 8 months, we've only talked about the water. It wasn't too cold, yet not warm. There was no ice, so no worry about added impurities. The ph level wasn't stated on the bottle, however, just from the taste of it, it was at least a 7.5, if not 8. I actually felt smarter after drinking it. It was served in a glass bottle, no bullshit. After we drank it, honestly we didn't need anything else, so we left. We made sure to leave a 50% tip. It's now a spot we hit up if we're feeling thirsty, and they never fail to amaze us. If Jesus walked on water, this would be it. Today we accompanied our water with some pizza, which was a nice touch to cleanse our palette in between sips. I'm leaving this review, still not knowing what the name of this restaurant is, because to us it is just "the water spot". The water is pretty expensive, but it is well worth every penny. What a cute rooftop! There isn't much of a view and it's quite small and often at capacity during the weekend, but it's a great place. The wait for dinner on the rooftop isn't long because most people are hanging by the bar. The food is good and so are the drinks. The Berry mule drink was delicious. City Bistro is honestly nothing special. This is one of the few rooftop bars in Hoboken, so I had high hopes and wanted to love it, but I was sadly underwhelmed. The food is okay - good but nothing special. Our favorite appetizer was the Firecracker Shrimp. The White Pizza was definitely not my favorite - I've had much better elsewhere. The main issue was that the service was not good. Our waitress was chatting with her co-workers half the time, and we had to go up to her several times to refill our drinks and eventually give us our check. The best part of the restaurant is the rooftop, which is only available during warm weather months. If you're looking to sit outdoors, this is a nice spot, but I would not come here for a great dining experience or great food. read more

My first experince here was not great. I was with my elderly parents and wanted to grab a drink and sit outside. The restaurant was empty as were the tables outside. It was mid day - mid week. They gave us a hard time however finally Allowed us to sit and have a drink. I would have left but my dad does not get around well and I didn't want to drag him somewhere else. BTW we spent about 60.00 and only sat for about 40 min I then went back with my husband and had a completely different experience. Very attentive staff. Because it was labor day the rooftop had a crazy wait, but they also had outdoor seating on the street level which was great for enjoying the weather. We went up to the rooftop briefly and it was a pretty average rooftop. Monday is by far the best day in terms of week day special (half price food & drinks). We split the fish tacos ($14 full price), short rib grilled cheese ($15), and carbonara ($19). The fish tacos were full of favor but they skimped on the fish. You get 3 tacos per order so it was fine as an appetizer but would not recommend as an entree. The short rib grilled cheese was amazing - exactly what you'd imagine with tender short rib in a grill cheese + arugula. The carbonara was pretty average - a little oily for our taste. My boyfriend and I went here for a drink last weekend, because we wanted to check out the rooftop. We thought it was going to be a somewhat upscale place to relax and get a drink, but instead it was a full on day drinking party. Drunk girls standing on barstools, knocking into people walking by, and just all around obnoxious behavior. I have been to City Bistro countless times already - for everything from brunch to rooftop cocktails to dinner and dancing. The restaurant offers a little of everything and caters to groups of all sizes. Despite these many benefits, the food has always been just "OK". However, they recently revamped all of their menus, so I decided to give it another shot and have brunch there with my friend. We were seated outdoors, and our server seemed engaged enough to take our order, but wound up being rather neglectful throughout our meal. Brunch cocktails were offered at a low cost, so I opted for the Bloody Mary, which was decently spicy, but tasted better after I shook some black pepper into it. I also ordered the Egg White Omelet, which was stuffed with tomato, asparagus, feta cheese, and, oddly enough, red quinoa. I had never heard of a grain being placed inside of an omelet, but it actually worked. I was also able to substitute my home fries with a small salad, which mainly a pile a lettuce, but fine. The meal also included a side of multigrain toast. During my order, I had asked the server to make sure my toast was not buttered. Instead, they completely neglected to give me toast. When I followed up with him, he declared, "Oh, you had said you did not want the toast." I corrected the confused waiter and made sure my carbs arrived as requested. I concluded my meal with a cup of coffee, which was rich and chocolatey - definitely better than I had expected. City Bistro's new menu and food execution had both received an upgrade, but the service was still nothing to write home about, making it a 3.5-star rating in my book. One side has a bar and a few seating areas and the other side is tables. It's tiny, but cute up there. We ordered a salad and a pizza to split. Both were pretty good. The drinks were also very well made and I think we made it for happy hour so they were cheaper as well. Overall, it was a good experience. One of the staff pointed us at a table shared by other people. The drinks were good, but for younger college students and post grads, I would NOT suggest against it. Last night I went to City Bistro on a double date right before sundown, and it was absolutely beautiful and perfect. I was looking for a restaurant/bar with a rooftop with casual food and drinks which is exactly what it was. And not for nothing, the bill came out to be the cheapest date we've had in a very long time. The four of us ordered a bunch of beers, bbq hot wings as well as sweet and sausage pizza and artichoke pizza. For all of us it wasn't a ton of food but rather like a light snack to munch on while we were catching up. The pizza was fantastic, small thin crust pies ~8 inches, and the crust was crispy and the toppings were very tasty. From what I know City Bistro is known for their pizza. I wanted a decent rooftop on a Sunday and decided to try out City Bistro. The rooftop was welcoming and open which I enjoyed. Service was .... meh. We sat down ordered a few drinks and food. Needless to say, 35 mins later..... no food. We asked one of the (2) waiters handling our table and he said he would check up on it. Needless to say, "they lost the ticket". I like to give the benefit of doubt... even though there was a total of 4 tables out of like 12 in use on this side of the rooftop. After that our food came quickly. I booked an event here with Ashleigh for my boyfriend's birthday. She was also our bartender. She was so kind, accommodating and helpful throughout the whole process and on the night of. Another bartender came in and helped for a little while, he was so nice and helpful as well! Pedro (I believe he may have been the bar-back) was amazing as well. He went out of his way to help me, with anything and everything that I needed, cut the cake for me and put in on plates for me. He was so kind, they all were! They have a great deal, about $75 per person for a 3 hour open bar in a private room. You can submit for a booking through their website. If you are not interested in planning an event it is a great bar and has a beautiful rooftop, I believe it may be the only rooftop in Hoboken. Great venue and incredible service. The rooftop is clearly the golden egg of this joint and while completely overrated, I still like it! I wouldn't choose to come for the other two floors, but for happy hour or during the day, this is a good spot to go. We came with a group to watch the football game on a Sunday bc there are TVs up top and it was great.
