Came here last night for a taste for some oysters. After reading the reviews for the shrimp on the oysters I had to try it. And let me say it was DELICIOUS . That's my first time eating oysters with shrimp grilled into them. The waiter was very polite and friendly. Very beautiful restaurant with a nice bar to go chill out at. My wife had a grilled chicken honey croissant sandwich. My daughter had her favorite grilled cheese sandwich. I will definitely be visiting this restaurant again. read more

I was very impressed. I've lived down the street from city cafe for ages but never eaten there. I got the eggplant dish with crawfish cream and marinara sauce. It was delicious and the portion was extremely generous and I'm a big eater. The service was exceptional and the server so friendly. The appetizer of spinach dip also was very nice. The food here is actually cooked and not out if a box or can so I appreciated the fact it was homemade. (If it wasn't it sure fooled me). I highly recommend giving it a try. read more

Back in the day, our group of friends were brunch regulars, but life has taken us out of the regular brunch game, so we occasionally make it back out to City Cafe. Service has always been on point. We usually have at least 6 people and have had as many as 20 at a time, and they do an excellent job with ensuring we receive the correct orders, our hole in the glass champagnes are (almost) never empty, and that we has quick and friendly service. The food can be a little hit or miss, but that's natural in every restaurant. When we come for brunch, I usually stick to the brunch menu, and I have regretted the times I did not strictly because I don't think the kitchen't attention was fully placed on the non-brunch menu, or maybe the ingredients were a little outdated after the weekend. From the brunch menu, I have had numerous options, my favorites including the traditional brunch, Sunday Funday tacos, and the breakfast burrito. Another indulgence on the menu is the brunch burger - your night before will certainly be absorbed by this meal. I highly recommend City Cafe, and while it's become more of a nostalgic brunch location when friends come in town, it always proves to be a fun experience. This was my first visit to City Café. I was in the area and was looking for something for lunch, and after locating City Café on Yelp, I decided to give them a try. The restaurant has a friendly vibe. There were lots of televisions for those interested in watching sports, and there is a good sized bar as well. I was greeted and seated immediately upon arrival. The staff were friend and helpful. They have a good variety of foods on the menu. I decided I wanted to try one of their burgers so gave that a try. The food came out promptly. The burger was cooked perfectly, and was very tasty. The fries were cooked to perfection as well. This is a nice little restaurant with a friendly neighborhood feel. I really enjoy the chargrilled oysters and hot boiled crawfish in the spring. They have a fairly large patio for outdoor dining when it isn't 1000 degrees outside. On our most recent visit, we ordered the crawfish nachos and (sadly) I would not recommend this dish. The cheese was something similar to what you would find from a gas station or football stadium and there were a few crawfish tails thrown in.... My other experiences have all been great but I would just steer clear of this dish! read more

One of our family favorites. Huge portions and good prices/value. Their sensation salad is something I get regularly--the tangy olive oil vinaigrette plus blue cheese and black olives really sets it apart from other sensation salads in town. Simply awesome! We arrived close to 8pm, I was almost sure we wouldn't be able to get a seat because of the full parking lot. Surprise! Not only did we get a seat, but we received great service even though it was very close to closing time. While waiting I was able to view the restaurant in motion. People laughing and enjoying their food. The servers were moving quickly between tables passing out drinks and food. There was someone visiting each and every table making sure all was well. He was honestly concerned and listening. That's hospitality! We ordered the buffalo wings and the seafood combination platter. Everything was freshly prepared and hefty in size. The seafood was fried perfectly. Our server really knew how to work the room. He seem to be responsible for our table along with so many others. He still served us with grace. * great food but so far away! * i recently went to city cafe for a friend's birthday and the food was so good! lots of options, pretty decent portion sizes, and everything i had tasted so so good so, i didn't eat these, but my friend got the fried cheese and she said they were *amazing* like the cheese was amazing and the marinara (which is made in house!) was amazing and it was just the best thing she's ever had. i'm definitely gonna get them next time just because i have to try them! i got the blackened paste with chicken and that was so delicious. the chicken was flavored well and cooked well too and i loved the sauce the pasta came in! i would've like to have a little bit more chicken but besides that, the dish was so good! my friend also got the chargrilled oysters and those things were huuuuuge. you'll definitely get your money's worth if you like oysters! the price was comparable to every other place, but they were gigantic and they smelled amazing city cafe is super far from where i live, otherwise i would be back so often so i can try more of their food! but if i'm ever on that side of town, i'm totally down to go to city cafe. read more

I would describe the experience here as mediocre. I've been twice now and my opinion remains unchanged. Be aware that the pics online can be misleading. This is a solid choice for okay food if you're in the area. The ambiance is super laxed, so come as you are. The music is catered towards older generations but they are all classics. The server did take a while but was considerate and apologetic. Quickly took our order. My husband and I ordered the pepper jelly shrimp as an appetizer. The sauce is amazing and the shrimp tastes local and fresh. Best thing we've eaten both visits. I chose the hickory bacon cheeseburger as an entree with a side of fries. It didn't wow me but it's a decent burger. You should be aware that you may want to specify how you want the burger cooked because mine was a bit undercooked for my preference. My husband ordered the Seafood Bellview and was disappointed. It wasn't made with the same shrimp used in the pepper jelly shrimp. These shrimp were small and were not fresh. The crawfish were hard to find and were not whole pieces. The quality was unequal to the price of the dish. Overall, the flavor did not match up to our expectations. read more

I've had experiences in the restaurant and for pick up using a food delivery app, Waitr. The food would have been good if it came hot, I would have settled for warm. If I had to guess, my food was sitting for quite some time. I'm not sure if that was Waitr or the restaurants fault. Aside from that, the gumbo I received was the bottom of the batch. This place has been around a long time but it's far from my house and we've only been once before. The food is great quality and beautifully presented. I had crawfish ettouffee with fried shrimp. The only complaint I have is there were very few crawfish in the ettouffee. A salad was part of the meal. I had sensation dressing. It was vas good and had a very light taste unlike some sensation dressing that I've had. Service was excellent and we were seated quickly. I'll go back. read more

We didn't bust a flat in Baton Rouge, waiting for a train....but we did find this random little gem. La la la la...na na na... From the outside this place didn't look like much. However, once inside, the place has a relaxed vibe and the outside patio was spacious and insulated. The char-grilled OYSTERS were probably one of the best I've ever had. I usually prefer them raw cuz most places can easily f-them up when they over salt and season them but man were these finger licking good! The po'boy sandwich was equally delish and my friend's chicken was well seasoned and moist. What a great find randomly off some random road that didn't have a 'brunch wait' on a Sunday afternoon. I do love me some raw oysters, and I love the oysters are clean and not dirty/gritty like other restaurants I have eaten at. The crab and crab bisque is my go to when I'm wanting a light dinner. My boyfriend ordered the grilled tuna entree and the tuna was cooked just right. We asked the tuna to be seared and it was not under or overcooked.
