There's something delightful about having your meal in the middle of the street. I can see why the unhoused sometimes insist on it. This must be what it's like dining at one of those little cafes in Europe, where cars aren't allowed to drive down the street and people don't seem to work for a living, except the girls that walk by are a lot heftier. Ain't nothing wrong with that! Perhaps they've been dining at the Beast Craft BBQ Co. concession. You wouldn't have to eat there very many times before you were forced to buy a new pair of pants, if my meal there yesterday was any indication. Beast doesn't have its own separate page in Yelp, so I'm reviewing it here. From what I understand, it might be new. Didn't it used to be upstairs? I visited the location in the Grove years ago, on a date that coincided with my 39th birthday, the beginning of Covid and the release of that Jay Electronica album. That was one hell of a week! It's long since been shuttered. They must have struggled to make rent, despite what they were charging for pork steaks. If they can't make things work in this Foundry location, I don't know what to tell you. It's not much more than a hole in the wall. A barbecue glory hole, if you will. There's not even anyone there taking your order. You just enter it into a little machine, like at a Panera. What if you need to inquire about the spiciness of the potato salad? Oh, right, we're in the city, not my native West County. Of course I had to get the pork steak. I've been to a barbecue place or two since my last visit, including Salt and Smoke a few weeks ago, but not anywhere that serves pork steaks. And this might be the GOAT pork steak anyway. It's ginormous and perfectly prepared. Eating it feels wildly irresponsible, both financially and healthwise. It's fatty throughout and seemingly not trimmed around the edges. It's coated in a sauce that's cooked until it's slightly caramelized. They give you two cups of sauce with it, but you don't really need it. They also give you the choice of white bread, tortilla or a bun (which is $1.50 extra). I went with the tortillas, natch, and made two hefty pork steak tacos with onions and pickles. You can get a pork steak platter with two sides for literally an arm and a leg or you can save a dollar or two and just get a pork steak a la carte and one side. There's also premium sides, including the Brussels sprouts, which I've had before. They're every bit as unhealthy as the pork steak, if not more so, despite being a vegetable, and perhaps needless to say, delicious. The potato salad, which I had yesterday, seems like a healthier option, but it's probably still not good for you, just based on how it tastes. It's a dill potato salad, with visible dill sprigs that they probably sprinkle on before they give it to you. It's a thoughtful touch from the kitchen staff, and something they didn't have to do, given that there's no one at the counter for you to berate. read more

Great way to spend the afternoon. Excellent food choices; we got food from 4 Hens Creole, The Beast BBQ, and Grilled Cheese. Everything was delicious!! Love the community tables so that we can talk to others about their food experiences. Quite busy today. All the food service places are amazing with the nicest staff who explain everything. Such a fun place!! Walked through some of the shops, the shops are fabulous, but there are so many empty stores which was the only downside. A side note, parking is great and security everywhere, hope they are able to attract more businesses. read more

We absolutely LOVE this food hall!! I discovered it because I was wanting to try a new place for oxtails and Chez Ali was were they said it was out. Since I worked in the Central West End at the time and I would spend my lunch hour at IKEA shopping for plants, why not go across the street and check them out. Chez Ali is my go-to currently for oxtails and fried plantains ever since my first visit. 4 Hens Creole Kitchen for their savory gouda grits and catfish. Expat for their five spice ribs and rooftop patio with live music. Fordo's Killer pizza for a delicious doughy pizza experience. City Foundry STL is a great addition to Saint Louis City's food and entertainment scene. They have a unique cinema, The Alamo, a creative interactive game show experience, various shops to meet your shopping addiction, a winery that not only has food and drinks but also acts as a concert venue. A fabulous food hall that boast an extensive array of options from burgers, popcorn, creole, chicken, poke, Thai, pizza and soooo much more and to top it all off as soon as you walk in there in front of you is a massive bar to meet your cocktail needs. This is a great spot for date night, group outings, girls night and to take out-of-towners. It is geared to be an all-in-one stop for ALL your entertainment needs and I'm still missing options that I haven't mentioned. read more

City Winery. One of my favorite venues - WHEN the bar is available for seating. I only wish they allowed the bar to be open for all events. I prefer this to table seats. The acoustics are great, the food, while pricey is delicious. I try to attend as often as possible- especially if the bar is an option. read more

The city foundry in St. Louis is amazing. This place features shopping, dying, entertainment, and a great place to hang out. We came down here on a Friday night and did the game show experience, which was fantastic! We had such a blast. Afterwards, we went to the food court where we were overwhelmed at first with so many great choices, but we were able to find the perfect meal along with great drinks from the bar. They had a solo performer, singing, and playing his guitar. Fantastic entertainment I must say! The place is clean and safe and I can't wait to go back! read more

We gave this place a shot because the hype had been around for a while. I was meeting with some friends and I figured there was plenty of places to see and walking around sounded like a good idea. Honestly, at least for my very first visit, it was disappointing. The food prices were very steep and the flavors....desperately lacking. The KALBI taco place was horrible. I ordered a chicken bowl and it came with a ridiculously sour sauce that destroyed everything else on it. All I tasted was a sour/spicy sauce that comes in Chinese takeout. We asked how the portions were because they charge $5/taco and the lady said we won't disappoint! It's very filling. Wrong! Small tacos that left my husband hungry needing to order more food --somewhere else. My friends ordered from the Mediterranean and Mexican restaurant. Both also looked too little food for how much they paid. Think $25-30 for a small plate and drink. The saving grace of this place was the WAFFLE shop. Their food was awesome, portions were great, and service is excellent. Thank you, waffle place for saving the day. read more

This was my first time coming to the foundry and I'm so glad I came.Upon entering into the parking lot, i was a little confused as to how to get to everything. The parking lot sits across from an apartment building and if you aren't reading the signs like me, you will walk to the wrong place. Upon entering the actual Foundry, I noticed there were retail shops, a wine bar and tons of fun entertainment places. There is a food hall on sight with plenty of food options to fit everyone's needs. There is plenty of seating throughout. They do have a bar as well. Staff were constantly coming through cleaning and emptying trash. So you don't have to worry about the cleanliness of this place because it was spotless. I will definitely be back and I can't wait to visit the City Winery!!! read more

Kind of feels corporate despite so many local businesses. While I dislike the food hall vibe, I can't deny that I have only had delicious food from every vendor. I particularly like grabbing dinner and being able to walk to see a movie or play mini golf while only having to walk a few feet! The bar in the main food hall suffers from slow service as it is always packed and understaffed. Sometimes you can use the Foundry to decide if you went to try the brick and mortar location, but you can always bet on people that want their business to work. Service is always top shelf. While there are several signs requesting patrons vote it 'best food hall', I'd suggest STL promote the venue locally (as my suburban friends don't know about it). They have underground covered parking which worked out perfectly since it was raining. We only toured the food court with our granddaughter for lack of time. The food court had many options. We ordered food from an Afro Caribbean restaurant, a Jamaican, and a Mediterranean place. We didn't get to do all the activities available. All the services that were provided were top notch. My granddaughter ordered wings that were cooked to order with seasoned fries. She really enjoyed them. I ordered shrimp and grits that were very flavorful but they were just lukewarm. I liked the flavor. My wife ordered a chicken rice dish with cabbage. She thought it was great. I ordered a chicken shawarma wrap for my grandson. Jury is still out because we ordered it to go. I ordered Baklava which looked like it was made offsite. It was very flavorful. My granddaughter ordered ice cream with sprinkles and she loved it. The restrooms were very clean. I went with the churro waffle, which was delicious and stacked high with whipped cream. My partner got the Cristo which he enjoyed with a slightly sweet jam. We were sent a text when our order was ready, so we could sit anywhere and pick it up when it was ready. The young woman serving us was kind and helpful. The Foundry STL also pivoted last Wednesday from a promotional event to a fund raiser for tornado relief, resulting in over $15,000 in donations that will go directly to St. Louis residents impacted by the storm. Go for the awesome draft house theater, the wine bar/concern venue, the "something-for-everyone food court", the ample parking, and stay for the fun, entertainment, and the enchanted night life. read more
