I like this place, from outside it doesn't look like much but once inside you'll find good friendly staff. I always get the chillaquiles so I'll review on that particular dish, the sauce they use for the chillaquiles is full of flavor, they serve them with rice, beans and an egg! The orange juice is freshly squeezed and so is the apple juice. The tables are a little to close together, you might find yourself rubbing elbows with your nieghbor! First of all, they had me at being super clean. I usually judge a restaurant by the cleanliness of their restrooms in addition to the food and service. This place is simple, clean, the servers' uniforms are clean and they look fresh and ready to work. (I say this because, servers who look like they just rolled out of bed should not serve food), but I digress. The fresh squeezed #5 juice, watermelon, pineapple and I forget was great! I ordered a bacon and egg sandwich, simple right? They exceeded my expectation with layers of fresh, crunchy lettuce and absolutely fresh, crunchy tomatoes (I mention the tomatoes because quite a few restaurants serve slightly spoiled tomatoes thinking they can get away with masking the fact that they are not fresh). I was pleasantly surprised at these two, very simple additions to a traditional bacon and egg toasted sandwich. Went here on a Saturday morning and had a great experience. There is a lot in back with free parking, which is always a plus in LA! We walked in and were immediately seated, which is wonderful for a Saturday morning at breakfast. The staff was friendly and fast. Taking our order almost immediately and getting the food out very quickly. We were eating 15 minutes after we arrived. I ordered the Waffle Special with scrambled eggs and bacon. No complaints here. The eggs and waffle were a solid, above average effort, but the bacon was from another planet! Possibly the best I've ever tasted. My girlfriend ordered turkey bacon and had much the same response. I also got the fresh squeezed orange juice, which was delicious and refreshing. We didn't order any of the Mexican food, but I saw a man enjoying a very delicious looking burrito, and will definitely be back to try out one for myself soon! Staff is friendly however food can be hitt or miss. I can never say that it's great all the time. Sometimes I'll go get some chilaquiles and there on point..other days I'll go and they taste horrible. I notice when they get a lil but busy food tends to come out not the best. Some of the items are semi pricy for the quantity of food you get. If you do decide to eat at this location try and go at a time they aren't to busy or just be selective on what you get. Try the C.Js in Baldwin Hills. It's in the strip mall on the West side of La Brea at Rodeo. It's twice as big as the Pico C.J.s and has roomy booths. Here is how to eat healthy at C.J.s - get the Bionico ! Comes in small, medium and large. It's a mixed bowl of fresh fruit and they put a little cream on it and sprinkle coconut and granola on the top. So if I am on my healthy regime, I can eat there cheap, without guilt. Ever since I discovered Cj's Cafe I have been constantly going back and just love the ambiance, service and food. The people who work there make the experience that much better because they are always on top of everything especially the servers who are very kind. The food is Tex-Mex and since I am from South Texas I especially love it because it makes me feel right at home. I also love their coffee because it is just perfect and I don't often drink coffee but when I do let me tell you this is as good as it gets for me. Their food is definitely a must try, its very delicious and the portions are grand which definitely makes you feel like it was worth every penny and more. read more

wow. i don't know that much about torta's but this place has probably one of THE BEST carne asada torta's i've never had. The bread was perfectly crisp and buttery and the carne asada meat was seasoned to perfection. The avocado and onions were MMMMMMMMMMM and hey free chips and sala!!! a meal for two people was $12.50! you can't beat that, REALLY YOU CAN'T! and the service was awesome.
