There are so few non-hipster breakfast places in L.A. left where you can have a yummy meal for less than $10 (if you don't order extras). They serve fresh squeezed juice. And burritos. And omelettes. And huevos. And Southern food. A fun place to eat and take visitors. Great atmosphere. read more

Disappointed. Went to Roscoes and the line was long. Drove down Pico and saw people eating outside. Saw the wings and decided to go in. Place is quite compact, had to share a table with strangers. Food lacked seasoning. Needed excess salt, pepper and hot sauce just to get some flavor. Saw a couple nearby drowning food in hot sauce just as well. read more

I love yelp and the main reason why is finding great places like this by searching on key words. So this AM I'm thinking I really want a Mexican style breakfast and this place popped up! I'm oh so glad it did, the food is simple here. Lots of basics and lots of not so basics, the menu had catfish and eggs, wings and eggs and numerous Mexican options. I went with the huevos rancheros. This dish was perfect, eggs, beans, rice, chorizo and tortillas. The flavor was rich and oh so hearty. I noticed another table request the homemade salsa so I did too, wonderful! The french toast was also well made, cinnamony and eggy and only $3! The prices here are super low, its located in an industrial looking area on Pico. We just knew it was something special when we seen the line out the door, the wait was only 10 mins too. This is a great place and will dream of coming back again for a long time. read more

I love CJs. Its just around the corner and my family has been going there since it opened. My only gripe is that they seem to forget part of your order when you telephone in your order. They don't forget to charge you, just forget to put it in your bag. This happens every fifth time but there's never any problem in fixing the orders. They're good folks. I went here for breakfast with my mom, and I was surprised how good it was. Solid food, and the French Toast was great! The carrot/orange juice was super fresh, and the machaca and eggs were solid. It's 7:30 Sunday morning. Just finished a 12 hour shift and I'm starving! Turned to my trusty yelp and CJ's popped up. Hmmm...Mexican soul food?...I'm so there!! So the hubby and I got there around 7:45 and there were a few customers choppin down on their brekkie. We were quickly seated and ordered, since I already new what I wanted. I got the chiliaquiles and the hubby got the breakfast burrito with chorizo. I also got the sunrise(freshly squeezed oranges and lemonade). So the drink was delish, but next time i think I'll skip it. I mean it's HUGE, and I don't wanna fill up on orange juice. So the Burrito was gi-normous and dense, but nontheless very tasty. And my chiliquilas totally hit the spot. i was very happy, and knew when I got home, sleep would come very easily :) I'm so happy!! I have a new brekkie joint after work. I think I'll try to tortas next time! The only thing kinda annoying was that I felt rushed..especially when the bill came. I mean my hubby was trying to write the tip in and sign in and the dude like just stood there. He hadn't even barely finished signing it and the guy grabbed it. Easy killer!! LOL. But it's ok. Clean place, quick service. Ordered online for pick up and my order was waiting for me when I got there. The Philly cheesesteak tasted better than it looked (it looked really sloppy) but the bread was sticky and kept sticking on my teeth and the roof of my mouth. Some parts of the bread actually got stuck on the foil, making the bread thinner than it already is. My friend got the al pastor burrito and asked if I accidentally ordered carne asada. I tried it and it did taste like salty carne asada. Also, my friend requested not to put beans, but they did. I guess no special requests? Staff was friendly though. The place is nice and clean I like that. Service is another thing. Coffee never got refilled, nobody came and ask my guest and I if we needed anything. So finally I went and ask for the check and a to go box. I can see why the place is empty. Also the food was just okay. Service is my pet peeve if I am spending my money I want good service. This is my neighborhood greasy-spoon and I love it. The Mexican breakfasts are some of the best things on the menu and it's one of the last places in LA that serves decent (read: not lumpy) grits! I'm bummed that the humble hash-brown seems to be an endangered species; this would be the perfect place to serve them. Instead, they serve some sort of home-fried potatoes that is a lot like a fried mashed potato, so I'd skip that and have grits instead. I've never had bad service and they've never screwed up my order, and I eat here A LOT. No, it's not a fancy brunch place, it's a greasy-spoon, so don't expect soy milk for your latte or a lot of vegan options. But it's good food at a very reasonable price and service that doesn't suck. Plus, no pretentious douchebag clientele, just ordinary folks from the neighborhood, and often their adorable dogs (the patio is dog-friendly). A great little neighborhood spot. read more

They do a little bit of everything, so there are tons of options. I've only had breakfast here no matter what time of the day because it's just that good. Their fresh squeezed orange juice is literally the best I've had. It gets really busy, so be prepared to wait if you come during peak hours. The service is great. Everyone is really friendly. They don't have tons of seating, so a huge group of 7+ or more might not work here. I love the outdoor patio because we can bring our dog! (and they usually bring our dog some water, which is so nice!) Overall, a no frills solid breakfast spot. read more

Its great!" Maybe no one ever said that exactly but I would hear about it a lot. Then I finally went there and paid $15 for some chicken and waffles. It was fine I guess. An Interesting combination I suppose. I went there 3 or 4 times with friends who wanted to treat themselves for whatever reason. Then one day a good friend of mine said lets go eat at CJ's and so we did. They have a menu with many things but they do have chicken and waffles. Like everything on their menu it's reasonably priced too (It's not $15) Although I never ordered it I have seen it and it looks good. Everything I do order is good so why wouldn't it be. I went here for the first time yesterday. I called in a club sandwich for pick up. For the money the sandwich was good and the ingredients seemed fresh. Interesting throw back LA coffee shop/cafe of the kind that seemed to be everywhere in 70s. My experience was hit and miss. Coffee dreadful, but squeezed on request OJ. Eggs and potatoes OK and biscuit oddly hard. I would have tried a waffle, but they don't offer real maple syrup, so I passed. Fresh squeezed OJ and Log Cabin is an odd combo. read more
