I got the chicken pesto burger to go and it was really good. Staff were really nice as well and in terms of COVID safety measures everything was good. Didn't have to wait very long either, maybe 10 minutes after I ordered it was ready. Again, the burger itself was great (a little messy but that's fine with me) and they give you a lot of fries which were really good too. Everything tasted really fresh too. It's a little on the expensive side but for how good the food/service is I'd say it's well worth it. Overall a great experience. Going to have to make this my go-to every time I drive through Birch Bay now! read more

Really like CJ's. We were their on a cold rainy day, and it was cheerful and warm. Service was very good. My impression of the food is that they take their time with it and actually cook it for you. The server Davidforgot to write down my and my wife's order and had to ask me if I ordered anything after bringing the rest of our groups food. Everyone was almost done with their plates by the time mine came out. No offer for any sort of a comp. He also disappeared for large periods of time, forgot refills, didn't give silverware, and we had to go up front to pay because the server was nowhere to be found. Warning - if you look at this restaurant's 1 and 2 star reviews, you will see that they have a long history of nickel and diming their customers. I brought 4 ladies there to celebrate a 60th birthday lunch. The restaurant was empty. Two of the ladies wanted to share a sandwich and fries because they have smaller appetites. When we ordered, we were informed that the split plate fee is 3.50$. We were obviously surprised and asked if we would have been charged if one lady ate nothing and the other ordered the plate? The waiter said no, but now that he knew they were splitting he had to charge the 3.50 for the extra napkins and washing the extra plate. He said the management got angry when he didn't charge this. We asked if we could forgo the second plate - but no - it was 3.50$. My friend was too embarrassed after that conversation to walk out.. The food was ok and the view is great. But nothing could overcome the bad taste of poor customer service. Also - this is a terrible policy for the wait staff - not only do they have to explain this to upset customers - but most people will just subtract the 3.50$ from their tip. I really wanted to like this place. I would give it 5 starts for the location alone but the location was the only thing that was truly amazing here. I had read the mixed reviews and was curious to see what my experience would be like. We went on a sunny Saturday afternoon to try this place out. The restaurant was not very full but we waited 20min for a table outside so we could have our dog with us. We ordered our drink and they came out fairly quickly. We looked over the menu and everything sounded great but I felt the prices were pretty high for everything on the menu. I ordered the calamari salad and my boyfriend got the surf and turf medium rare. The food took forever. We sat there maybe 40 min waiting for our food. It was so lovely out that I didn't really mind but it was not very busy. The server never came by in that time to check on us which would have been nice since our drinks were empty. The food came and looked amazing but that was about it. My salad was a good size and the dressing was tasty. The surf and turf was a disappointment though. The shrimp had obviously been frozen and were very rubbery in texture. The turf was not tender and was rubbery as well. :( For 2 drinks( a vodka cranberry and a beer) and 2 entrees(one being a salad) our bill was $100. I moved to Birch Bay a few months ago and I was excited to try all the places that are walking distance....I was really hoping that they'd be better... CJ's has the best food in Birch Bay. Decent burgers, sandwiches and sides. They have a good drink menu and nice beer selection. The service is hit or miss. It kind of depends on who is working...not as much depending on if it's busy or not. I've actually had better service at times when it's busy. The bar area has a pretty cool set up with couches and chairs....although the TV layout is a little awkward. The cocktails are pricey...which leads us to... The problem with CJs is the pricing. I understand that they are looking for tourism dollars...but this place is ridiculously overpriced. For one person....a burger with two beers and tip...it'll run you $40ish. For two people....two sandwiches/burgers/flatbreads...and 2 drinks each...you're looking at $60+ before tip. The view is great and the deck is nice in the summer...but like the other places in Birch Bay, the value isn't there for what you're going to pay... read more

We were in Birch Bay for a week and hit this place up the first two nights for two reasons; 1) It appeared to be the only kid friendly game in town that was open and 2) It was right next to the place we were staying. Pros: 1. Kid friendly. Our daughter (5) loved the waiter because he was kidding around with her both nights. 2. Food was good. My wife says the fish and chips were some of the best she's had, but didn't care much for the fish tacos. My burger and wrap were above average. 3. Casual atmosphere 4. It appeared there were a lot of locals there which is always a good sign. 5. Our waiter made our daughter a "special" kid drink with lots of cherries (tasted like a 50/50 bar). 6. There was a bar area where a lot of people were watching the bowl games. Cons: 1. Only one. Our waiter dropped a glass of tea on the table which ended up everywhere including my leg which I didn't bother me, but not taking a little off the tab when the bill came did. They get pluses for food and that they had Pepsi products, cant give them 5 stars though as the service was slow, and there was no reason for that either as there was only 4 tables with people. First start with the food, I went with a Steak and mash potatoes which was very good, I didn't eat the veggies though as it was cooked carrots and some noodles on top. My wife went with the Philly Cheesestake with french fries, the fries were excellent (yes I stole couple of them lol.) in regards service, that needs work on big time, it was a couple minutes wait just to get seated, and the place was not busy at all! So thats unacceptable, once seated, our waitress was not to attentive in fast service, so the place gets a strike or a con for that. Went here with my family. After reading reviews we thought it would be a great place to eat. We were sadly disappointed. A young man greeted us and brought us to our table. Very kind, even went to get some crayons for the kids. That is the last positive person we encountered. Our server came to table and told us kids were not allowed crayon. She then told my daughter-in-law that she could not remove onions from hamburger. My daughter-in-law is allergic to onions. She was very abrupt and took order. We never saw her again until food drop off and then that was the end. I had to go in front to get boxes and ask for check. Horrible customer service. I never knew her name she had long braided hair and glasses. The only reason I'm giving any stars is because the food was pretty good. We ordered-Reuben, clam chowder, fish and chips, crab cakes (not worth the cost). Reubens were delicious. Fish was way over battered. Clam chowder was pretty good but more potato and very little clam. Over all i would not recommend this place due to the serving crew. read more

Honestly would not leave a one star review. I would warn parents to check their children's drinks to make sure they were " virgin" before letting their minor children drink them. Last Saturday our part of 9 sat down for lunch with 3 minor children and they were served alcoholic drinks instead of virgin drinks. When brought to the waiters attention and he said "oh let me check" He came back with the virgin drinks and laughed it off. 2 of the 3 minor children had headaches the rest of the day. We asked to speak to a manager and was told there wasn't one. We asked that the drinks be removed from our bill and they were not I was told by the waiter he couldn'tdo that, our bill for the 9 of us was well over $300.00 . I have called all week and left messages to speak to a manager or get the owners information. Still continues to put me off. Yesterday I called again and spoke to someone who said she is basically the manager. Told me the email address on line is invalid I asked for the owners email or piont of contact and was told to write a letter regarding the incident and mail it to the restaurant. Again put off. Very frustrated that I have to publicly try to get this issue addressed since noone wants to talk to us regarding the situation. Parents beware of your children's drinks. Never thought our minor children would be exposed to alcohol at such a young age guess we had to much faith when we ordered. Check your kiddos drinks first! Hopefully noone else's child will be exposed to alcohol before they are ready. read more

This restaurant is so crazy they tell you right off the bat when you come "don't ask for any modifications because we won't do it it" is the craziest thing you've ever seen and our waiter brought us water and we asked for lemon and he said just so you know we don't give any lemons with water but I got it for you guys, the Server was quick to tell us that it's not his fault about the rules and blames it on the owners and very "tacky-ish" says that it affects his tips very inappropriate awkward interaction, the staff need some major customer service training ASAP. Also to the owner smarten up! people have a choice to go to any restaurant they want and if you're not gonna be accomodating to your customers why would we choose to go to your establishment? Went here today for the first time on our way home from the Semiahmoo Resort. Asked for a recommendation for a good place for fish & chips when we stopped at The C Shop. They were spot on! The prices seemed a little high on the menu for the Birch Bay area but the food, service & atmosphere all deserve the price. I had the fish & chips ($11.99) Four pieces of nice tempura battered cod with a pile of steak fries. Tiny dollop of coleslaw. A little too sweet & could have used a touch more mayonnaise. Hubby had the Black & Blue Burger ($10.95) with a small Caesar salad instead of fries, no extra charge for salad. Waitress suggested the Kilt Lifter Ale to go with hubbys burger & I had a Heffiweizen. (Wish all restaurants would list their beer selection on the menu or on a placard on the table. Hate having to ask the server what they do or don't have on tap.) Would definitely go back when in the area again. They have lunch day specials. read more

On both occasions they were on the slow side, and servings were on the smaller side for the sandwich price range of about $10- $11. We stumbled across this place after having a bad experience at nearby Via Birch Cafe and Bistro, and I am so glad we did! We walked in there frustrated and hungry and walked out satisfied and happy. Our meal was fantastic! We were seated immediately, and service was quick and efficient. Our server (Oh I wish I remembered his name!), was on top of everything and the food was great. I plan to come back next time I go to Birch Bay. We had the burger, the clams, a couple salads, a couple pastas... everything we ordered was delicious! Highly recommended! read more

Update A month or more has gone by since we had lunch at CJs. Last Saturday we went there to have breakfast which is served on the weekends. Standard American breakfasts with a German one slipped in. I had the Denver omelet and my companion had a standard 2 egg with choice of toast and sausage. We both enjoyed our meals even though our waiter was not quite awake yet. The food was tasty and warm. Best sirloin steak I've ever had and cooked to a perfect medium temperature. Good size wedge that is a steal for the price. Homemade burger topped with crispy bacon and served with AMAZING FRIES! My wife loved the Crab Cakes appetizer. She said they tasted very fresh. We enjoyed as a family their signature Lobster Mac & Cheese, Salmon Cobb, and Grilled Maui Tacos. One of the best restaurants within 30 miles. (We drive from Lynden Washington because the food is so good.) Not cheap, but not expensive. Just a great value! read more

We made a day trip from Vancouver, BC down to Blaine for some cheap gas and lunch this past weekend, and landed on CJ's from a google search before we left. We were not disappointed!!! First of all, the location was perfect. Right across from the beach, so we ate our meals with a view of the ocean. Second, the service was OUTSTANDING. Our server was fast, and efficient, always making sure our water was filled, and that our meals were to our satisfaction - and every time with a genuine smile and kind demeanour. Finally.... the food. Oh. My. GOODNESS. We started with the Clam Chowder, which was hands down the best I've ever had. Fresh clams, and real bacon, seriously yum! Not only that, but with the soup came 2 freshly baked buns, and I mean they literally came out of the oven and onto our plate. Then we shared the Lobster Mac & Cheese, and the Salmon BLT - both of which were to die for!! Lots of prawns and lobster in the mac & cheese and it was sooooo creamy.
