Visited Clarkwood and was immediately impressed by the stunning decor. It was definitely an upscale lounge. The drinks were well crafted, and the atmosphere felt lively yet sophisticated. It can get pretty crowded, though, and there isn't much accommodation once tables are reserved or unavailable, so I'd recommend planning ahead. Overall, still a beautiful spot for a night out and worth a visit!

We had a fantastic time at Clarkwood on a Saturday night. Parking is street only, it can get very crowded and hard to find any parking. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was buzzing with a great mix of music and conversation, but it was tiny bit loud. It was really hard to hold a conversation with ppl next to you at times but overall it was fine . All the servers were very attentive regarding the service. They kept making sure our drinks were good without being intrusive. They do offer a little bit of food but this place is more perfect for cocktails. We'll definitely be back soon.

Clarkwood has become a go-to spot for my friends and I when we're planning a GNO. There's plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Just be aware that late at night they usually have a DJ playing music and it gets loud to have a conversation. Regardless, the place has great vibes and even better cocktails. They have a wide variety of margaritas and martinis. My two favorite drinks are the lychee martini and espresso martini. The menu also introduces some seasonal drinks making each visit different every time. I can't recommend this place enough!

Moody atmosphere, dim inside and music is loud when it's after 10 pm. Outside little bar area is the best- there is a bar in there and it usually isn't crowded like the main bar. It has a Mediterranean feel to it with the carved into white wall seating. Now my secret bar area is out :( charcuterie was ok, nothing special

We heard about Clarkwood from a friend and it is absolutely a hidden gem in Houston. While the drinks and cheeseboard shined, the best part about Clarkwood was the ambiance. The bar has a moody yet trendy ambiance that can be hard to find in Houston. We have gone her many times and it remains one of my favorite bars of all time. Note- We went during happy hour (excellent deals during happy hour) and were able to get seats but other reviewers mention that it gets very busy later in the night.

Perfect place for a classy night out or a drink after a date night! Been here twice and I'll be back again, definitely recommend. Drinks have a lovely presentation all picturesque. Intimate and small space, can get crowded but standing by the bar isn't a long wait for a seat. Restroom line can take time. Attentive serve even when busy!

Nut allergies are clearly marked on their charcuterie boards. Parking is basically on the street, metered from 7AM-6PM. Time to Drinks: 6 Minutes Clarkwood is definitely a trendy, intimate, upper class spot in the intersection of Montrose and the Heights. Parking is difficult, even on a weekday night when it was not that busy. Service is decently attentive, even with self-seating. Waitresses kept a good eye out for when we needed a drink refill or new order. I got their espresso martini and a Victoria Mexican Lager. The beers on tap are extremely basic light beers that would normally be half the price at another venue (1.5/5). The espresso martini was quite sweet, with the marshmallow being an interesting touch but definitely not the best I've had in Houston (3.5/5). It was too sweet (maybe some influence of the marshmallow?) and the espresso notes were light and not roasty at all. It was not mentioned that gratuity was automatically included. I was delighted to see the options for only a 7% tip and maxed out my tip without realizing 20% gratuity was already added on. My mistake for doing bad math, but I seriously missed if this was mentioned anywhere. My friend mentioned his negroni was also too sweet. Our third liked his Mai Tai, so maybe try that. Also, no tap water? At a bar? We specifically asked, since the water that shows up at the table is something like $7 per person. Ridiculous. Overall, I'd say it's overpriced and a nice date spot if you've got the wallet to spend for it. Likely won't be coming back. Edit to respond to the business: A curated, high end experience should provide the expected quality (of which, the drinks are not) and set expectations (which Clarkwood does not make clear, as the intention is not to highlight poor math skills but instead that there is no clear indication of forced gratuity). That's my intended review.

Came here for a date night, and this bar lived up to my expectations. There was music playing, and the lights were dim which really set the mood. The waiters were super nice, and gave great advice on which drinks to order. I will say that this cocktail bar is definitely on the expensive side. But how they craft the drinks make up for the price. Parking kind of sucks in the area, but they do have valet right around the corner.

Clarkwood is a cool, upscale, cocktail bar with an intimate vibe. There's limited parking on the street or you can do complimentary valet. Some of the street parking is free and some is metered. Do not park in the lot across the street because they do tow. Reservations are recommended but both times that I've visited, I was able to get a seat without a reservation. On the first visit, we sat at the bar. We got there right after they opened, so it wasn't too busy, but when we left a few hours later, it definitely picked up. Bartenders Oscar and Alex took care of us. They were super nice and made great suggestions. I started with a Cucumber Melon G+T. It had a fancy presentation and I wasn't prepared lol. The drink was cucumber forward and very refreshing. The bottle of Indian Tree tonic reminded me of the bars in London. For my second drink, I I ordered The Spicy Verde and requested that it be made with 50% spice level. The drink was good, but the spice was still a bit much for me. It is also a cucumber forward drink. The cucumber flavor was very prominent, but I would have enjoyed it more had it not had any spice. My friend had a Mezcal Rita and enjoyed her cocktail. On the second visit, we stopped in after having dinner near by. There weren't any open tables, however the staff let us sit at one of the reserved tables as the patrons hadn't arrived. They informed us that we would have to get up if the party showed. I think we were there for at least an hour, but fortunately we didn't have to give up our table. Our server was nice, but it took awhile to get water. They gave us the option of tap or bottled water. I ordered the Lychee French 75. It was good, but a tad sweet. The drink was very pretty and I enjoyed the Lychee garnish. The one downside is the single restroom, however don't let that deter you from visiting. The fancy craft cocktails are worth the inconvenience.

Clarkwood is a favorite of mine. It has a nice and classy ambience. It's always dimly lit and it's nicely decorated on the inside. It definitely has an upscale aesthetic and feel. The service is also really good. I feel like the bartenders are always very friendly, hospitable, and help to give you a great experience every time you go. Last time I went we got the Mexican candy shots and they were really good. I definitely recommend this place if you wanna go to a nice cocktail bar while in Houston.

The signature cocktail menu is large. However all the drinks we ordered were just ok. Was able to sample 3 drinks and came away thinking they were not that great on taste. They looked awesome and had some nice presentation, however I was not very moved by the taste. We sat at the bar and the service was fine. Parking can be an issue. Food selection is small and not very appealing for the price. So we did not order any snacks. So make sure you dont show up hungry. This is the type of place to come to be trendy and take nice photos. I think there are many better spots in Houston from a taste or a value perspective. I could not recommend or return.

Beautiful space and beautiful drinks. For $16.00 the cocktails are on the pricier side and considering my marg came with a giant ball of ice and two large cuts of fruit, I am not sure if it was worth it. Service somehow felt slow and fast. No one came to check on us and had to flag down a waitress to order and when the cocktails came, they were briskly placed in front of us. I would come during happy hour but there are better cocktail places in Houston.

Great for some cocktails. The reservation system looks insane, so I opt for dropping by right when happy hour starts. If you're lucky, you can grab a seat at the bar. The service is great despite them being extremely busy. I love the vibe here for an evening aperitif but haven't checked it out for nighttime fun. All in all, I do recommend coming early evening. read more

I really enjoyed this cocktail bar. We went earlier before the crowd came in and ordered a couple drinks and the charcuterie board. This is a great place to start off your girls night. Since they don't have any food options it's a good place to grab a drink before dinner. My drink wasn't the best cocktail I've ever had but was still very good. Our server was also very attentive. We got seated on the couches which I think is the best seat in the restaurant. Comfy and in the center of everything. I would go back to Clarkwood. read more

I thought I knew all of the great bars in Houston until I went to Clarkwood. I truly love a great, high-end bar with mixologists and well made cocktails...sign me up any day. I went to Clarkwood when my brother was visiting and we fell in love. We sat at the bar and all of the bartenders were attentive, friendly, and extremely talented. So let me tell you about this place. First off they will charge your card $200 for a reservation that if you do not meet the minimum then they will double charge you. My waiter did not check with me before serving or at the end if I had a reservation. Because I have a kid we did a 5pm reservation and no one was there but they still do the $200 reservation. The. While I'm talking to the manager Jesus he is saying that I'm not goin to get my money back. I would have spent 200 but drinks were subpar and menu was trash. Safe to say I'll only be back to get the money this establishment took from me but not for anything else. 0/5 stars to be honest. read more

The good, the bad, and the ugly.. Good: Good service. Sat at the bar and had prompt service. Stumbled upon happy hour - $16 drinks were $10. Drinks were also good - I never had a buzz from the two cocktails but overall taste and flavor were good. They seem to focus on service and even followed two people out who couldn't find seats to be sure they were taken care of. The Bad: Seems to be a bit of a money grab. Offered water, still or sparkling. When we said still, the waiter replied with "ok two bottles of water". We said no, tap is fine, and we're given two glasses of hot (like hot water heater hot) water. It's clear they use the Voss bottled water to run up the tab. The place is small, reservations require a $100 per person minimum. They charge a 3.5% fee on credit cards. This should be built into their prices. They use the TOAST brand credit card machines whose top fee is 2.99% plus $0.15 as shown on their website - so this place is at minimum taking an extra .5% from each customer. The 3.5% fee is listed on the menu. The Ugly: They add 20% gratuity to a party of two. This is not listed anywhere. Then, don't show you a tab that reflects this charge and request an additional tip. When we realized what happened we notified the waiter who seemed offended we didn't want to tip on top of the 20%. I told him to remove the additional tip - he didn't - and we had to open a dispute with the credit card company. Summary: If you need a good insta post swing by, otherwise save your $16 + 20% + 3.5% for somewhere else. read more

I've been a returning customer at Clarkwood, until yesterday I will no longer be going back. I'm very disappointed in whomever the GM/Owner is of this place due to how a situation was handled last night. This bar has one women's restroom, and one men's. Upon my first time going to the restroom, this door was VACANT, which meant to me nobody was in it. Quite frankly there was a couple that I walked in on, and as I opened the door they immediately shut it.. just to COME OUT.. I go in and there is semen on the toilet. I reported it instantly to a server who came back to tell me that they "cleaned it" and no further action was made. The manager on duty for the night did come back and let me know that there would be no compensation towards the tab or anything else done because I deliberately told the manager that my server was amazing so because I was happy with my service it was "out of they're control" of what I found in the restroom. Meanwhile, there is people intertwining between both restrooms! Completely unacceptable. I wasn't taking from my server, but for a GM to blow off the fact that there was semen left on the toilet is absolutely ridiculous and DISGUSTING! now you could only imagine how many other women didn't know and walked in that stall to use the restroom. there's more to semen being on a toilet other than just "cleaning" it off. I don't EVER leave reviews but I think this should be a fair warning for other people who plan to visit this bar and have no idea about this. read more

It looked dark, clubbish, and fun (exactly what I was looking for) and I couldn't wait to come here. After a 25 minute Uber ride we were downtown and walking to our destination. At first we could not find it but thankfully a nice gentlemen showed us where it was. Upon walking in, darkness with these bright lights paved our way. We sat down at the bar, but realized dancing did not start until 10pm. The bartender came over and said to us "we have a speakasy behind door #3" we were like WHAT! Let's go. So, we walked down the dark hallway and pushed open door #3 (hence the name) to find this super cool speakeasy bar. Dim lights, really modern decor, comfy suede chairs and best of all, some really great cocktails. If you are ever in Downtown Houston, I highly recommend you coming here. I promise you will have the best time. We did not stay for dancing.

She then text our friends group and said we all had to come together and we did just that. She made reservations in advance as this place is popular thanks to recent Michelin Bib Gourmand awards as well as many other accolades. Walk ins are welcome as well. Our reservation was later in the evening so after a night of bar hopping, we ride shared in which I think is one of the best options as parking is limited here or you have to find street parking in the neighborhood. This place is literally a house turned into a restaurant. Inside is just multiple rooms with a couple of tables. It makes for a unique, intimate dining experience, perfect for a date night. In our case, we were a group of nine so we got patio seating. The patio is spacious and well kept, and if the weather cooperates, a great place to hang. One thing that really stood out to me is the amazing ambience of this place. I was told that the bartenders pick the music for the night from the owners extensive vinyl collection. Once the album is in, they play it in it's entirety. The sound system was systeming and on top of the great company and food, we were totally vibing with the music. Customer service was amazing. Every staff member we came across was so friendly, especially our server. The menu here changes. There are some mainstays, but they like to change things up. Their website shows current menus daily. We were told that family style is the best way to experience this restaurant. I am one of those people that will always listen to the staff and go with their suggestions. Our group went through quite a bit of their menu from apps, entrees and desserts. I loved that our server and staff brought our food out one by one in what they thought was the best progression so we could take a culinary journey. We started off light with their popular Dilly Bread. Best bread I've had in awhile. Next was the Texas Tartare. It was my first ever tartare and it was delicious. We then moved on to Fingerlingin Good which was a crispy potato dish with chili crisp and mascarpone. It was potatoes elevated to the highest level and so so good. Next up was Beer Battered Sweet Tots. I didn't think sweet potatoes could be that good. Our first entree was a vegan dish called the Carroty Kid. I could seriously become a vegan if all dishes tasted like this. It was curried. A bowl of jasmine rice would've made it a complete meal. Next we tried another famous Nobie's dish called Nonno's Pasta. Handmade, perfectly cooked tagliatelle with a delicious bolognese. I wouldn't share this next time. Ok, I will, but it was that good. On to the heavier dishes. First up was the Jamon With Your Bad Self. This came highly recommended and it did not disappoint. It was favorite heavy entree. It was high quality, iberico pork steak with shaved brussels and all kinds of other tasty ingredients that when combined made such a tasty bite. We then went to the sea with the Drops of Grouperter. It was good, but not something I would order again. It was a little too smoky for my liking. Our biggest dish that came market priced was the Kick His Ass Seabass. This was a whole fish that was presented beautifully on a platter with all the accouterments to make your own elevated fish tacos. We left no morsel of fish behind. It was absolutely delicious. One of the things this place is really known for is their pies. This was the part I was most excited about. Just like their menu, their pies change up. We got all their offerings that night which they presented on one big platter of goodness. Their main stay and I believe always on the menu is the famous Olive Oil Cake. It's not a pie, but I can see why this is such a popular dessert. I can't even describe it, you just have to try it to understand. The pies we had were the Black Bottom Strawberry Pie, Banana Rum, and the Peanut Butter Pie. I would order all of them again. We all had a difference of opinion on which was the best, but my fave was the Banana Rum. Overall, I was highly impressed with this place and kind of mad at myself for waiting so long to make it here. It had made it's way to the top of my list of favorite restaurants in Houston. I will be back.

The chicken dinner was definitely the winner--fresh, juicy breast, crispy skin...don't be cute, you won't finish it unless your party has at least 4 in it! The flies were ruthless! Very annoying! They were acting like the geekers that come bother you just outside your favorite fried chicken joint in south Dallas! Our waitress brought out a table fan so that made the experience a little more tolerable. The chocolate peanut butter pie tasted like a salt rock and the lemon chiffon pie had great flavor but not lemony enough for me. All in all this place is a bit pricey but truly a gem! My name is Jahcorrian Burkes, a Mortgage Lender and a Commercial Real Estate Agent. I used to frequent this bar with my friends in the past, but after last night's experience, I will not be returning. The service was terrible, and the overall experience was extremely unpleasant. I visited the bar last night hoping to unwind after a long and successful work week, only to be denied entry because I was wearing a T-shirt. Interestingly, there were other patrons inside the bar also wearing T-shirts, but I was singled out. It seemed that the main difference was that I was a single black male without my usual group of friends. I found the manager and bouncers to be disrespectful and embarrassing, especially considering that I have potentially existing or future clients among the other patrons. When I tried to reason with the manager about the dress code inconsistency, I was manhandled by the bouncers and forcibly removed from the premises, where I saw several other T-shirt-wearing individuals. I was not under the influence of alcohol or any substances, yet I was treated unfairly. The manager's excuse of reaching capacity fell flat when I observed them allowing five other black patrons, some in T-shirts, accompanied by white women, to enter. I even tried to prove my credibility by offering my business card to one of the bouncers, but to no avail. Feeling discriminated against, I have decided never to return to this establishment. It's truly disappointing to have such a negative experience at a place I once frequented with friends. Update: The manager's response appears to be untruthful, similar to responses found on Google regarding the dress code and door selectiveness. I have additional pictures showing no jackets or similar items present. The establishment's policies are highly inconsistent. This behavior is indicative of pure racism and discrimination. I recommend reading the management/owners' responses, which are appalling and unprofessional, before considering a visit. It's better to choose a different location that treats all patrons fairly rather than continuing to support such a dismal establishment. read more

Great new addition to the area. Arrived on a Friday evening, and it was very bustling. A little off-putting at first, as there was nowhere to sit, which is fine, but we felt awkwardly "in the way" and not acknowledged by staff. Once we interacted with the bar staff, however, they proved to be kind and knowledgeable. The drinks are all executed very, very well and it's clear everyone is well experienced and/or well trained. We loved the gin based cocktails we ordered. In the downside, I will say, it's probably one of the top 3 noisiest places I've ever stepped foot into, to the point that screaming at each other is necessary to communicate. Not because of music, just the challenge of a concrete/steel interior, a rather small space, and lots of people. The interior is sleek and inviting, and it's clear the owners "did it right" with this place, rather than opening some ordinary bar. Not sure if they have access to any of the outdoor courtyard space at their entrance but would be very cool to have the environment extend outdoors in the warmer months. While a bustling place is fun, Clarkwood is the type of place that I'd also love to enjoy a more intimate / chill experience within, as it does give off some great lounge vibes, so perhaps a visit during the week is in order to catch it a little less intense, crowd-wise. Extended (earlier than 5) opening hours may be great, too, though I'm not sure what that says about me wanting to grab cocktails before 5pm ;) I read another review that mentioned that maybe sound-proofing is on the way, which I think would be a huge and very necessary addition which would push Clarkwood up to 5 stars in my book! read more

UPDATE: I left a sincere and unbiased review and the owner or his PR people left a childish reply as well as decided to investigate me to see if I really own businesses. They also begged YELP to remove my so true review. So I will amend my review so not to hurt any feelings. Take a moment to look at what others said about the poor customer service and ambience. I am going to be nice about this and just tell everybody out there that it is not worth going to if you are looking for a classy place. The clientele that comes to Clarkwood is far from classy. As far as probing into my personal life. I don't have to justify what businesses I own, and they are not under my name so good luck finding me. The truth of the matter is many people share the same feeling I share, but you try to ban us to make your business look good. So childish. read more

First time coming to Clarkwood and I was impressed by the aesthetics of it immediately. Once sat down in the bar, the candling and lighting really caught my attention and made me feel cozy right away. I started with an espresso martini that was perfectly made with a crusty marshmallow and almost burnt to perfection, I followed on with a spicy watermelon margarita that was right on spot and included a Serrano pepper that was delicious and spicyyy. Lastly I got the ruby and I think this is the best drink they have, it's mezcal based with a little grapefruit taste which got me hesitant at first but Joao, our bartender explained us all the ingredients and carried us through the process and preparation of the drink, and at the end I couldn't have trusted him and this bar any more!!!! read more

My friends and I tried a few different drinks, and every single one was delicious. The atmosphere is a mix of laid-back and trendy, with comfortable seating and good lighting. People go to bars to drink but I follow bartenders for the experience. Janeen is the best bartender I have met in Houston and one of the best I have ever met. This is coming from a person who goes to the World's Best Bar and native New Yorker who goes to best New York bars. Janeen is serious about and knows her craft very well. She will explain how the drink will taste, why the drink is made the way it is, and how the flavors go together. She is very meticulous to make sure you have the best drink and experience possible while doing it with a smile. She is also very personable and take the time to talk to you. First time to Clarkwood last night a friend of mine told me about it so I gave it a shot ! I was greeted by a well dressed gentleman at the door I had to wait a min or two but had a nice conversation with him, when he let me in everyone was dressed extremely nice which is unheard of in Houston (please keep it that way) !I went to the bar and was greeted by a bartender which was nice as well ! I was amazed with the selection of drinks they have it was awesome! My wife and I stayed for an hour and enjoyed ourselves thanks a ton Clarkwood and Andrew will be back soon . Clarkwood is completely unassuming from the exterior so be prepared to be impressed. My girlfriend and I stumbled upon this place after a nearby event and were blown away. Regulars probably know to book a table in advance due to the intimate interior but we were obviously clueless. Thank goodness for Monica - she welcomed us with the most genuine smile and attitude and made sure we found a prime spot to enjoy our espresso martinis (which were bomb btw). Date night here at Clarkwood was very satisfying. We were able to secure 2 seats at the bar that perfectly created a comfy/romantic vibe(loved the chairs). While looking to give the cocktail menu a quick try-out, our bartender Alex perfectly accommodated that. He recommended the 3 drinks we ordered and executed them flawlessly. Espresso martinis were a great way to end the night. The location and available parking could easily make this a routine spot. We will be back ASAP. read more

Have been here in the past and the experience was always average to say the least. But decided to give it another try tonight for me and partners six year anniversary and we were more than impressed! As soon as we sat at the bar we were promptly greeted with a warm welcome by all the staff. This venue is small, overcrowded, and uncomfortable. During my visit, I overheard a group of older men in suits making inappropriate comments, including discussing how they wanted to ask me how much I would charge for sex. Racism at front door. Doorman discriminated against my friend who is a person of color. My friend was refused entry based on his outfit despite meeting the dress code criteria and then proceeded to see the doorman letting in other white-passing guests wearing streetwear (jeans, hoodies, etc.). Not okay!! There are much nicer bars in Houston who don't hire racist staff. read more

We came for a couple drinks on a Sunday night and had Tony as our bartender, he was amazing! He made our first experience here well worth it with his bartending expertise.
