Beautiful location in Coronado. Stopped by for a recital and came upon this location for brunch. There's many other places that was recommended, but this place caught my eye. Small and cute location that reminded me of Paris vibes. The chairs, tables and space was nice. Cozy place to grab brunch on a weekend. It seemed pretty busy when we arrived, but you order up front and find a seat. The front and inside is pretty busy, but go to the back and outside there more seating. Also, there's parking in the back. Coronado is a very busy town so finding parking is not easy. We started off with mimosas! Everything bagel was delicious, wondering if they make them in house. My partner got an avocado toast and it was delicious. The mimosas kicked in so we ordered a banana nut bread and it hit the spot. Everything was delicious! Can't wait to come back. read more

Really cute place and always busy on Sundays. It's a tiny cafe so efficiency is of utmost importance. Unfortunately they don't have it yet here. I ordered to-go beignets since it was so busy. Waited 15 minutes on line to place my order with the cashier. The cashier was able to give me the anons croissant and sticky bun right away and informed me they will call out my name for the beignets. So I waited on the side. After 30 minutes of watching other people who ordered after me get their order And the kitchen staff preparing food, I finally had to ask how much longer it's gonna take for my beignets. They looked and my order had been ready for 15 minutes!! BUT since the staff was so inefficient about deciphering to-go orders, I waited for so long for now cold beignets. I ordered the sticky bun, almond croissant and the beignets. The beignets were delicious, with a lemon custard and fresh strawberries. The croissant is hard with a custard filling and almonds baked on top. I prefer softer, flakier croissants so this was disappointing for me. The sticky bun had hard bacon all over it and was not sweet at all. Overall this was a very disappointing experience. I had high expectations. read more

I have to say, I really like this Bakery and Cafe. They have a great bakery and offer some great savory eats as well. For example, I stopped in for breakfast and had their Avocado Toast with a soft scramble with cherry tomatoes, herb, and olive oil on a thick multigrain toast. They also offer sour dough toast. The best part of the avocado toast was the preparation of the soft scramble and its seasoning. The eggs were soft and fluffy and well seasoned. Simply out, they were delicious. The addition of the cherry tomatoes and specifically the olive oil was just a nice indulgence. I was very please that they use a thick toast for their avocado toast, and that they toast it well. Two pluses in my book. The multigrain was not only of good quality, but was also very flavorful and held up well to the ingredients a top. Thank you for doing it right. The locals love this place, so it gets quite busy during the weekends, especially during brunch hours for good reasons. There baked goods and bagels are a good enough reason to visit, not to mention there friendly service and brunch menu items. Great bakery and cafe. read more

I always pass this place called CLAYTON'S BAKERY & BISTRO when im in CORONADO and I'm always curious about it 'coz I see that there's a lot of people dining here. But im glad that i finally got the chance to try this place . I didn't see much of what I wanted on their Pastry Shelves , BUT on their actual Menu there was a couple of things that we liked. These are the food we tried: *CROQUE MADAM - Rosemary Ham, Gruyer, egg on sourdough. *AVOCADO TOAST - Herb, Cherry tomato, lemon olive oil in Multi grain. *DUTCH BABY PANCAKE - With powdered sugar and fresh lemon topped with Fresh Berries. *ROSEMARY HAM, HONEY SMOKE BACON GORGONZOLA SANDWICH - With carmelized onion and butter lettuce on a French bread *MEXICAN MOCHA Their Mexican Mocha was really good, it woke me up really good :) . All the food that we got was good, but the one that I mostly liked was the CROQUE MADAME and the ROSEMARY HAM & BACON SANDWICH. I was expecting that Avocado toast would be more flavorful, but it turned out the Croque Madame has more flavor. And the caramelized onion in the Rosemary Ham & Bacon was what made the sandwich really good, and their Sandwich was just so soft, I could taste the butter on top of bread . It was so good that when we were about to go out of the place, I decided to order more of the CROQUE MADAME and the ROSEMARY HAM & BACON SANDWICH and stroll around the mini-stores next to it while we waiting for our additional to-go order. We went to Clayton's Bakery because it had so many great reviews and everything in the pictures looked so delicious. We got two cupcakes, a blueberry poundcake and a pistachio white chocolate cookie. It was absolutely underwhelming. I had better cupcakes at Walmart. The cookie tasted like nothing. If I hadn't known what was in there, I couldn't have guessed. The poundcake was good but also nothing special. The lady working the register was nice though and the bakery looked pretty and everything looked appetizing, it just wasn't good. There's two locations for Clayton's a block away from each other and both can be crowded. For two people we waited about 20 minutes to be seated. You can also order takeout if you want around the corner (not the full menu though). We got the dirty chai which was delicious! I got the corn beef hash and was satisfied with it. I thought the potatoes would be combined with the corn beef, but they were separate and I was happy about that because the potatoes were very well seasoned. The corn beef was a little salty but the meat is general is salty anyways. The only compliant i have about sitting inside was we were seated next to the window and they don't have a screen to put down so the sun was on me/in my face the entire time read more

My wife and I just returned from Quebec City and wanted to extend our French Pastry/Coffee experience. We popped in here this morning and it was a great choice. Coffee was excellent. I had a chocolate chunk cookie and it was amazing. Service was welcoming, done quickly and with a happy energy! I mostly avoid places on the island as they mostly do mediocre food that cater to our unending stream of tourists. But this is an exception. I recommend this place wholeheartedly! read more

I took my friend this Saturday for an early dinner, and it was absolutely wonderful. We wished we had known much earlier in the summer that their hours had been extended!! We were able to sit outside on the patio and enjoy the evening. From the service to the very last bite, we could find no flaws, and we are somewhat picky. Maybe if I stretched it, I would have liked a bit more dressing on my grain and greens salad but otherwise, perfection! We started with the brie, which is not to be missed, my friend had the steak fritz and loved every bite, except for the fries I stole! We tried three different cocktails and couldn't really decide on a favorite because we would order them all again. We finished by going next door to the bakery and getting a brownie and a oatmeal cream sandwich, both were amazing. We also learned that they are staying open later now too! If you've not been, or are just looking for a cozy place to enjoy a cocktail, a bite or have a sweet tooth, we highly recommend it!!! read more

Visiting Coronado is always pleasant. Clayton's is the Coronado vibe. Smart and modern with fresh food. I have sampled many of the dishes. This time I tried a new version of lox on a bagel. It was served with cucumber and sprouts which much to my surprise added crunch and complementary flavors. Paired with a coconut matcha it was delicious. The bagel came straight from Clayton's bakery nextdoor. Our waiter Payton was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu and did not rush us to leave the delightful patio. I would recommend Clayton's and Payton if you are in Coronado. read more

See my review on their page *Clayton's Mexican takeout -- it's the same location as the Coffee shop, but the window is at the side of the building with a separate menu of Mexican food offerings. You can also order coffee + donuts in the AM from this window too! *Clayton's Bakery & Bistro - this spot! A bit more upscale and french bistro-like! We wandered in here for an early breakfast. Food was fantastic on it's IG-ready marble tables+Le Creuset coffee mugs. I had the avocado toast with egg as well as an apple turnover and doughnut hole but my partner's order, the fall frittata (roasted mushrooms, thyme, shallots & parmesan) served in a cast iron skillet was THE STAR. Highly recommend this one! It was nice that they were offering a Veteran's Day discount. We didn't end up using it (partner is an Army Vet) but it's nice that they offer it. Cute but very small coffee and pastry shop in orange av. Because it is a very small place it can take a while for you to get your coffee and/ or pastries so be patient. Be prepared to shell $7 for the muffins/ cookies / and mini cakes and around $ 17 for most of the food items. read more

I ordered a pumpkin croissant, gluten free orange pumpkin muffin, and I couldn't decide on two flavors of coffee so I ordered a lavender coffee and a caramel macchiato. The pumpkin croissant was flaky and had pumpkin seeds that added to the flavor. The muffin was very moist and was tasty. The coffee's finally arrived at my table, and it wasn't hot enough for my liking. The coffee had decent flavor, but warm coffee took away from its appeal. We were super excited to try the bistro we have enjoyed the pastries next door many times. What a disappointment. Took 15 minutes for our coffee my double cappuccino was like water and cold! My partners lavender honey latte was weak but at least it was hot . Our food came out , I ordered the Tomato,spinach parn. Cold eggs the waiter saw me taking it apart never asked why when he finally asked I said can I have a box to take home it was cold I'll heat it at home --- he said ok . This bakery & bistro is super cute, a little awkwardly set up on the inside with a narrow walk space between the kitchen area and the diners' seating. My husband and I stopped by to eat breakfast around 8:15am on a Sunday morning. There was a sign outside that said "Please wait to be seated" but it took a while before anyone greeted us to seat us. When we were finally seated, we got our drinks fairly quickly but our food took a really long time. There seemed to be only one or two servers waiting tables and the tables were gradually filling up so we rarely saw the server. My husband had their French roast coffee and I had their Vietnamese iced coffee. Both were tasty. I ordered the bistro bagel which came with very fresh cucumbers, tomato, and red onion but very little of all of it. I had also paid extra to add avocado because I noticed on another customer's bagel they had barely used any schmear. It was very underwhelming to be honest but I loved the freshness of the ingredients and that there was fresh rosemary in a vase on our table. My husband ordered eggs and oatmeal and also seemed unimpressed but satisfied. I ordered their winter Caesar salad and peppermint hot chocolate to go. Both were disappointing. I also ordered a croissant to go and that was the BEST croissant I've ever had. Moral of the story, if you visit this place, I recommend just coffee and a croissant (DON'T SKIP THE CROISSANT), but be prepared to wait a very long time for your food even if they aren't busy yet. read more

This restaurant has beautiful decor and ambience. The food was presented beautifully and tasted amazing, but a bit of a small portion for the price. I got the honey lavender crepe and frittata, both were great. I would give this restaurant 5 stars for just the food. However it fell short on service as the waitresses didn't seem very attentive and in no rush to serve guests. A bit sloppy in my opinion. It did not fit the standards that seemed to be presented by the upscale ambience and menu. The thing that put a bad taste in my mouth was at the end of the meal, our check was showed to us on a small screen where we had to click on a tip option right in front of the server as they were holding the small POS device. I am not a fan of this new system at all. Sit down restaurants have traditionally always left a paper check on the table, where guests are not pressured to immediately enter gratuity amount while the server is awkwardly standing right there holding the screen. Apparently this is a newer thing and I think it really downgrades the fine dining experience. read more

when I walked into the bakery I was amazed! The French song in the background was everything! The nice young lady was very kind! However, I wasn't very impressed by the young man's attitude. He seemed annoyed when I was speaking to him. When it was time to pay my boyfriend wanted to try a card that was given to him. when it didn't work because it didn't have a chip the worker said "I can't take this card" in the most sassy attitude ever. I was like calm down, we got cash with us. I work in customer service and the best thing to say is "Sorry ma'am this card does not work, do you have another form of payment" because the way he said it made me feel like he thinks I can't pay for my food. We used to love Clayton's, today was our first visit since they switched to sit down to order. It was such a let down. The food was delicious, but the service was subpar. It felt crowded and chaotic. Our coffee came out after our food. Our server never put in my husband's French press order. Our friend was over charged for an extra side of fruit we didn't receive, but without the ability to review the check we didn't see it until we were in the car. I also mentioned to the barista our poor service, she rolled her eyes and said ok. We much prefer the ability to order at the counter and find our own seat. Not sure if we will return anytime soon. 3 stars because the food is still really good. read more

My husband and I had breakfast here this morning. Not a traditional breakfast menu but the food was really good. I had the Midnight Matcha to start and it was delicious. The service wasn't great. I asked two people for extra powder sugar and it took about ten minutes to finally arrive. I ordered the Dutch Baby Pancake and it was perfect. Our server never checked on us after someone else brought the food and it wasn't until we were ready to pay that she finally came to our table. My husband wanted waffles or eggs Benedict but neither was on the menu so he had tomato soup. It says it comes with bread and butter but there was none just a thin cracker on top of the bowl. I can't say enough good things about Clayton's Bakery & Bistro! From the coffee to the breakfast food to the pastries, everything was amazing. I had the iced Honey Cinnamon Latte with Pat milk and loved it. It wasn't too sweet and was very smooth. I also ordered the Tomato, Spinach and Parmesan sandwich on an Everything Bagel. The bagel was one of the best I've ever had. I asked for hot sauce to add to my sandwich and they gave me a yummy, spicy homemade sauce on the side. My favorite thing we had was probably the sticky bun with strawberries and cream cheese frosting. Probably the best cinnamon roll/sticky bun I've ever had - crisp and crunchy on the outside and soft and flaky on the inside. The food all tastes thoughtfully crafted and scratch made. I'm already thinking of what other tasty treats I want to try on my next visit. read more
