My husband and I had breakfast here this morning. Not a traditional breakfast menu but the food was really good. I had the Midnight Matcha to start and it was delicious. The service wasn't great. I asked two people for extra powder sugar and it took about ten minutes to finally arrive. I ordered the Dutch Baby Pancake and it was perfect. Our server never checked on us after someone else brought the food and it wasn't until we were ready to pay that she finally came to our table. My husband wanted waffles or eggs Benedict but neither was on the menu so he had tomato soup. It says it comes with bread and butter but there was none just a thin cracker on top of the bowl. I can't say enough good things about Clayton's Bakery & Bistro! From the coffee to the breakfast food to the pastries, everything was amazing. I had the iced Honey Cinnamon Latte with Pat milk and loved it. It wasn't too sweet and was very smooth. I also ordered the Tomato, Spinach and Parmesan sandwich on an Everything Bagel. The bagel was one of the best I've ever had. I asked for hot sauce to add to my sandwich and they gave me a yummy, spicy homemade sauce on the side. My favorite thing we had was probably the sticky bun with strawberries and cream cheese frosting. Probably the best cinnamon roll/sticky bun I've ever had - crisp and crunchy on the outside and soft and flaky on the inside. The food all tastes thoughtfully crafted and scratch made. The service was horrible and the food was greasy and nasty. I've never wanted to throw up right after a meal. My wife ordered a burger with 0 flavor and no sauce, and my sandwich was cheesy and greasy. $21 wasted on a burger. McDonald's would've been way better!!! They totally forgot we even ordered. If they wanna seat you outside, don't bother. They may forget you too. Cute plates and dishes though. If you could afford a bunch of le creuset ware, then maybe get better chefs and staff. read more

I come here today with my family to a breakfast, and funny thing I was just here four days ago and I love it. But unfortunately today I have ordered a breakfast , my eggs come completely raw the rash potatoes was raw the bacon was completely burned in black. So the waiter come and ask what's wrong I explain to him, he look at me and said "well that's what you ordered" At that point I took a breath because maybe he doesn't have a good day, he trows the food at the trash and walk away without asking me if I want eat something else. I called another waiter for a manager and she told me that was not manager there. A feel minutes later a another person comes and take care of the situation and I order another food that was a chicken waffle that I normally order there, and like 20 min later my food arrived and the chicken was raw looking very greasy as well. Wow! We love Clayton's Diner and was quite surprise they had this bakery. We live in AZ and come back to Coronado every year end of summer or during the holidays. My husband was born and raised in Coronado and introduced me to Clayton's Diner, their Mexican food and donuts. One day we were walking by and saw this adorable sign. So I had to go in and get my mid afternoon latte and pastry. What a delight it was just stepping and saw all the beautiful cookies, cakes and pastries. I felt I was in Paris. I bought a cupcake, monster chocolate chip cookie and a macaron. I sat outside and devoured all the deliciousness and washed it down with my coffee. I went back inside to view the cakes. I bought a small cake for a niece's bday. Then I thought to myself, well my son is getting married soon here on the island. I wonder if they'll bake them a cake. So I admire the vintage cakes and took lots of photos and my soon to be daughter in law agreed to order their cake from Clayton's. I contacted Clayton's and they're baking a small wedding cake for them this month. It's been nice talking to the ladies there. I'll post an update after the wedding. I can't wait to see their creation. In the meantime, we will order breakfast food, pastries and coffee the morning of the wedding while the bride gets ready. So try Clayton's Bakery. This place was a delight. We were in town for a water polo tournament and decided to grab something while we waited for the games to begin to Coronado High School. LOCATION: located on one of the main streets. It is small but has seating in the front, inside, and back. MENU: Ton of items to pick from. We enjoyed both the madame croque and German pancakes were our favorite. SERVICE: Service was good. Nothing over the top but good enough for us to enjoy our visit. We went ahead and headed to the diner for our meal, but stopped back at the bakery on our way to the car afterwards. It's not a huge place, but they have a very nice selection of goodies. I got two items and my friend got four, and every one one of them was outstanding. I forgot to take pictures, but I had a vanilla lavender scone and the oatmeal cookie sandwich. Excited about a new brekky place on island. Just went by with my husband for a quick breakfast. It was pretty empty before 9am but by time we left around 10am, the place was full. The service was excellent. It did take a while to get the check but I like that they weren't rushing us out the door. The food was delicious. I got the mushroom, thyme, goat cheese frittata. It was good but not sure I would get again. The menu has a bunch of great options. My husband got the croquet madam sandwich. It was delicious but definitely too much for me. I did see a croissant sandwich come out of the kitchen and I definitely will get one of those next. I had a cappuccino which was delicious but did make the crowded restaurant a bit more toasty than I would've liked. My husband had the iced lavender Vietnamese coffee. It was good but there are so many options I can't wait to try other offerings. The table water is room temp and you need to ask for iced but it's crushed ice which is the best. We got a monkey bread to-go and I think it would be better if it was a bit warm but you can't have bad monkey bread. read more

During our day trip to Coronado Island, we stopped at Clayton's to get some breakfast on the way to the beach. We ordered a bagel with cream cheese, hot coffee and donut at the take out line. Had no idea how long we had to wait to get a bagel and cream cheese. After waiting about 20 minutes, my wife simply asked how much longer it would take and the attitude on the response did not seem very friendly at all as I observed the exchange. Then after waiting another 10 minutes, the server at the counter yelled out to my wife and told her to pick up the bagel and then almost threw the bag at her and said in quite a nasty and sarcastic tone "have a nice day". I was upset since my wife cordially just said thank you. I was ready to say something but honestly was not worth wasting time on. When we opened the bag at the beach we saw that the cream cheese wasn't even spread on the bagel and they just gave a cream cheese packet with no plastic knife and no napkins. Not sure how they expected us to spread the cream cheese which we thought would just be on there. Donut was pretty good and coffee was ok. I have a favorite table in that restaurant; I hope I keep getting that table... This is a French breakfast resto with a separate bakery next door. There's only one food that I tried that was mid, but everything else was great. * Coffee is great per my husband. He tried 3 different types, and he loved it. * Butternut squash soup was delicious, but it's seasonal. * Croque Madame was delicious. * Grilled Cheese is not your standard oily one, but better. If you want to recreate it, they sell the Japanese milk bread they used on it next door. * Beignets are the best in San Diego, but it's best to be eaten right away. * The crepes looked small, but I got full. Ordering a side of fruits helped. I also asked to add strawberry to the crepe, which they did; no questions asked. * Housemade chips had the right crunch and saltiness for me. It was addicting, and I wish my husband can make it for me. I've been forgetful these days. But I remember I was pretty happy when I eat there. The bakery next door gets full when there's a long line to the restaurant. But they have coffee and pastries if you can't wait. You can also order the pastries inside the restaurant. * Carrot cake is delicious. I got it for thanksgiving because I don't like pies. But they also have pies. But again, I don't eat pies voluntarily so I cannot review their pies. * Pistachio macarons is delicious! So crunchy and flaky and full of flavor. * My husband said their cookie is good. Parking is street btw, but we never had trouble getting one nearby. Don't listen to my review so you don't flock to this restaurant. But then again, I want to support it so I can keep going here.
