Well, let's see. I told wifey that I would be kind because she don't like it when I'm brutally honest . But people want to know the truth and it also helps in making better business changes. Wifey saw a lot of stars and wanted to come see why all the fuss was about. It was a wait but not to bad. While I was waiting I popped into their bakery next door. Lots of goodies in there that's for sure. About 15mins we were called to be seated. It was wifey and our youngest daughter. Both serious foodies As we were seated the server gave us three plastic cups of water... that was odd because they were like cups you give people that stop by for free water. We noticed that everyone else had gotten glass jars I didn't want to make too much of it so we looked at the menu and ordered. Wifey had the Dutch Boy. She loved it was just right for her. The lemon curd was a good combination. It was very different but tasty. Baby girl had the croissant, not sure which but it had eggs on it. And she said the egg was a bit over cooked. I had the Croque Madame and it was good. Just a little too much salty cheese. And the ham really didn't do it for me. Just a personal thing. I wouldn't order it again. The one thing that was a bit odd was the extra charge if we wanted hot sauce so we opted for the free Tabasco sauce . I actually saw a few plates found by with the same sandwich half eaten. It really wasn't a lot so maybe they just didn't care for it either. As a chef, I try not to be too hard on fella chefs. It's a French type setting and I'll just blame it on that it's French. Had a friend in town visiting and we decided on Clayton's for brunch. We were so glad we did because we had a wonderful experience all around. Although it was nice outside, we sat inside at a cute little table with views of the back patio. We ordered the breakfast wrap, avocado toast, side of fruit, blueberry muffin and coffees. By the time everything we ordered came there wasn't an inch to spare on our little table and we were trying to find extra dishes to hand back to the waitress. We enjoyed every bite of the meal and were stuffed by the end, but the entrees stole the show. The breakfast wrap was very filling, stuffed with hearty ingredients, and a large portion in my opinion. The avocado toast was pretty standard, but hit the spot. They weren't very busy at the time and the service was a bit relaxed/slow, but we didn't mind as we weren't in a rush and were enjoying having a leisurely bite while catching up. After I came back to tell her that she said u want a refund or a remake I said refund as she turned around and started marking it without apologizing nothing. There's like 3 locations of Clayton's! There's the Bakery & Bistro (this one), the restaurant (attached/right next door), and the coffee shop (about a block down). This one is great for a quick snack or tea. It's small and cute and has brick walls and a big case with pastries. You just go up to the counter to order. There is no indoor seating. I got the Mary's Sweet Matcha Latte and I substituted almond milk (they had lots of sub options) and it was AMAZING! I loved it. I will go back again for sure. They also sell lots of delicious looking pastries and fresh bread. The staff member that helped my group was nice and patient. Back after a year+ and took my son here for breakfast. Thought it would a good opportunity to see if my first review needed an update. HAPPY to say that it was a great experience. They were busy but had a greeter ready to go and we were quickly seated. Fast friendly service was the word of the day. Had the chorizo burrito, açaí bowl and croissant. Everything was perfectly prepared and super tasty. Server checked on us a couple of times which was perfect. Portion sizes are VERY large so you can easily share a burrito. The croissant was huge so you can share that also. Had a double cappuccino and guess what...HUGE. I'd order a single in the future but that is my preference. Nothing negative on this place. Meal prices were Coronado reasonable. Tables were clean and the whole place was well organized. Really happy that they seem to be doing great. While in Coronado the other day, my husband and I decided to give Clayton's Bakery & Bistro a try. It's a cute little place on Orange Ave. The hostess seated us in the pleasant "garden" patio area out back. Our waitress was very nice and attentive. My husband ordered Quiche Lorraine, and I ordered the Winter Root Vegetable Quiche. Both arrived with a generous fresh fruit cup. My quiche was hard and over-baked and filled with inedible fibrous shredded carrots and turnips. My husband's quiche was equally hard and both were without flavor. Overall, the meal was very disappointing and the French Roast coffee no better. We'd hoped Clayton's might be a place to revisit, but it's unlikely I would ever return. read more

Amazing does not do this place justice. I was in San Diego for the Rock and Roll half-marathon. Was told I must go to Coronado while there. Looked up.some breakfast spots and saw they had Beignets. With already solid reviews figured this was a place I must try. Walking in you are in awe of all the different breads and pastries. Was somewhat bad as Im a carb addict and almost went into meltdown mode. However, I stuck to my guns and just got the Beignets. These little puppies were soft and pillowy. I visited one weekday afternoon looking for a place to respond to a few emails and kill some time on Coronado before going back over the bridge. I wanted to go to Clayton's Coffee, but they had just closed so I came here instead. My latte was great and it was served in a beautiful mug - with latte art of course. Really a lovely presentation. I also got an almond croissant which was heavenly. I had planned to get something else, but they were out of a few things. I'm not sure if that was just because it was close to the end of the day, supply, or what. I was still happy with my selections. They have patio seating out front, a few tables inside, then a great patio in the back. It felt really quiet back there during my visit which I enjoyed. They have a lot more for me to explore on their actual menu - I wish I had been there for a full meal. I hope to come back soon. read more
