On January 25th, we decided to go to Coronado for a nice brunch after a hectic few days of dealing with the Border 2 fire evacuation advisory. Instead of going to our normal go to place we decided to try this Bistro. There were 5 groups waiting for seats, while there was waiting list it was not being used. Instead he was using his memory as to which party was next. Thank goodness everyone was nice and pointed out the sequence of parties order to be seated. That took about 30 minutes. Finally seated. Our server took our orders, which was straightforward. The orders came out in a weird sequence. We had to ask for our warm beignets (that were not warm) to go along with the croissant. The croissant was very good ... buttery and flaky. After being in NOLA and had their beignets these beignets were just okay. We had to ask for main course which was ham and Gruyère frittata, after another 20 minutes it finally came. But the frittata that was served was not what we ordered. The server took it back to the kitchen and asked that our order be expedited after waiting another 15 minutes we cancelled the order. While waiting for the check, the frittata order showed up 30 minutes after the supposedly redo request which we declined. Paid for the croissant, cafe au lait and the beignets, tipped the server because he was trying get things rectified and it was not his fault that kitchen messed up. The worst part was that the manager or anyone in charge did not even try to make up for poor service. read more

It is with a very heavy heart that I am forced to write this uncomfortable review. We love love love all of the Clayton's businesses, for their food, pastries, and most of their service staff. With the exception that I keep getting this nasty eye and attitude from one specific individual every single time we come across each other. She does not know how the customer service industry works at all. She's always making a difference between customers and nasty remarks to others. I've been observing and experiencing this for a couple of years now. And today I've had enough. Too many uncomfortable stories to write. But I do ask that something is done to correct this matter please. If possible. The croissant and bagel + cream cheese were so worth it! Pastries were made really well and I would definitely recommend the croissant. It was perfectly flakey and buttery! The seating and ambience of the bakery is amazing too, so it's a perfect way to start a day on Coronado Island. The mocha was very big and more like hot chocolate, and the blueberry muffin was pretty normal with some hints of lemon. If I were to go back, I might try a different drink and dessert, but overall, it was a great experience! read more

My partner suggested that we switch things up from a traditional brunch spot by visiting Clayton's Bakery & Bistro, a restaurant with vintage-inspired cuisine, beautiful fresh flowers, garden herbs, fresh baked bread and sweets. Since it was my first time visiting Clayton's Bakery & Bistro, I wanted to step out of my comfort zone and try something new. So, I ordered the Honey Lavender Latte and the Croque Madame. Although I didn't take a picture of the Honey Lavender Latte, I really appreciate that Clayton's Bakery & Bistro offers milk alternatives such as almond and oat milk. I was also impressed that the barista put an actual lavender into the drink. The drink was a great combination of bitter with a hint of sweetness from the honey that paired well with the aromatic scent from the lavender. Clayton's Bakery & Bistro is known for its Croque Madame which consists of rosemary ham, gruyere, and egg on sourdough bread and I like how it was simply presented on a plate with microgreens. I was impressed with the way that the bread was toasted, how the yolk from the egg was perfectly runny to provide a sauce, and how it filled my appetite. As a note for anyone who plans to visit the restaurant, Clayton's Bakery & Bistro and Clayton's Coffee Shop is located on the same street, but they are two different restaurants. I'm really glad that my partner suggested Clayton's Bakery & Bistro and that he called ahead to get an insight of the wait time. The experience was different than my usual brunch experiences because Clayton's Bakery & Bistro was not packed at all, the overall aura felt very calm, and the ingredients of the menu items were slightly more upscale than what I would typically eat.. Since we all are still navigating the CoVid-19 pandemic, I really appreciate that the staff thoroughly sanitized each table as soon as customers leave and placed a sign to mark what areas were sanitized. All in all, I think Clayton's Bakery & Bistro is a lovely place to dine in for brunch that doesn't provide the traditional option of pancakes and waffles. If you're down for an adventure or you prefer a more scenic view, you can order for your food and drink to go and then walk towards the beach (which is just a few minutes away) to enjoy your meal. read more

The food and coffee are good but it's painfully slow and overpriced. Unless it is completely empty, you will wait 45 minutes or more for a turkey sandwich. The staff is always very friendly, polite and apologetic but they are badly in need of better management. I've visited on 4 occasions, one time it was empty and went fine. The other 3 were moderately busy (not overly) and there were visibly and vocally frustrated customers due to the delays. They need to listen to their customers and stop putting their employees in harm's way. The other bakeries and bistros on the island are far better. read more

Tasty place but I find the seating a little uncomfortable...My ham and bacon croissant was very good but it had too much ham and bacon on it - if you can believe that...I gave half of the meat to my friend. Their fries are really good. Service is friendly and attentive. Indoor seating is sparse and like a wind tunnel when the front door gets opened. The outdoor seating is nice but a teeny bit tight. Wow. This place does not disappoint. My fiancé and I came here Sunday morning for some breakfast. I have been here more than once and love this cute spot. Today the music was very pleasant (piano jazz), the space is cute, the pastry presentation was great with its plates, details like the napkins, etc. The servers were friendly but unfortunately they took forever to take our order, and they forgot to bring one of the 2 coffees we ordered (we had to remind them to bring them to us) and they brought the wrong one. We had different servers. They were well-intentioned and willing to help, but I think they just need better communication between them. The salads can also use some TLC (being dressed before). The bathrooms could use some TLC as well. The pastries were delightful and we are looking forward to bringing another friend again. read more

It's a small place where you walk up and order, then the food is brought out to you. We ordered and found a table out back, not really knowing what to expect. While we were waiting we had the pleasure of visiting with Jennifer. She is awesome! What an asset to the business. She was very helpful, friendly, and had a genuine smile. The food arrived and it was fantastic. I had the Croque Madame sandwich and it was quite good. My wife had the egg/spinach/tomato/Parmesan sandwich and she enjoyed it as well.
