I went here for brunch last week and had a great experience! I opted for the iced coffee and almond croissant. They were both delicious and enjoyed safely outside in front. Truly scrumptious! From the coffee to the food, I had the arugula salad with fried goat cheese and my daughter had the Italian hoagie with house chips. Stumbled upon this bakery today while visiting Coronado. Officially open for dine in! The bistro is very cute, reminiscent of European cafes. Walk up to the register to order and receive a table marker. The focus of the menu is sandwich and baked goods based. My SO and I shared a croque madam and a seasonal blueberry lavender bagel. He had the house black coffee and I splurged on a lavender honey latte. Croque madam was 10/10, loved the cute plate it was served on. Bagel was 7/10, although SO was a bigger fan than I was. Coffee was great! The outdoor seating is fairly plentiful for a small cafe. Highly recommend visiting for breakfast or brunch. read more

We visited Coronado for a mini-vacation, and wanted something nearby to get breakfast at. We found Clayton's Diner on Yelp, and were originally going to go there. Then we saw Clayton's Bistro, and loved the idea of going to a small French style cafe. The seating outside was kept far apart and we found a nice secluded table on the back patio. Service was amazing, all the workers there are so friendly and helpful! But the food is what really sets this place apart. We loved our breakfast so much we came by the next day to order again! The first day we tried the pan perdu, oatmeal, bagel, and croissant. All amazing. Then when we came by the next day we were too late for the breakfast menu, so we tried the veggie wrap and croque monsieur. Also both amazing, with super fresh chips served with both. There is not an option on this menu I've seen that is not absolutely fabulous. I've been here twice now, in a short period of time it's been open. The sandwiches, salads, and baked goods are all freshly house-made daily. The interior space is cramped and not too inviting, but if you're seated in the outdoor space in the back or front, it's much more comfortable. The service and staff are impeccable, completely out of the Clayton's Coffee Shop (just down the street) playbook--but make no mistake, that's where the similarities end. The bistro is decidedly less comfort foody and more light and fresh. That's not to imply the the baked goods aren't decadent and sinful--they are. The cookies and monkey bread are to die for. I ordered lunch to go, the "ham and gruyere" sandwich. When I opened the box at home, there was only half a sandwich. I wondered if this was an error in the kitchen or by design. The sandwich was served with thick-cut potato chips and greens. I let it go. The following week, I was back for lunch again. This time, the menu read, "1/2 ham and gruyere sandwich". I had a good laugh with the server who explained tweaking the formulas and that others were similarly confused about the "whole"-"half" thing. In any event, the 1/2 sandwich on my second try was significantly larger than the first one, and the salad portion was larger as well. This time, I found myself taking half home! That all being said, the ham and gruyere sandwich on sourdough is delicious. The ham is not grocery store "deli style", but rather, a thicker lean cut, real roasted ham, with a small, delicious tiny trim of fat. Also enjoyed the matzo ball soup and Caesar salad. Very cute ambiance here but the tables are tight & there isn't much room for the staff/patrons to move around. The staff was very friendly & professional. I had the frittata which came right out of the oven piping hot but for the $13 price tag, I would have appreciated fruit or potatoes on the side included. It pains me to write this review as this Bistro is one of my favorite places for breakfast and coffee in the county. This morning I ordered a specialty drink and a croissant. The croissant was already made, but the drink took over 20 minutes to prepare. I had a similar experience last Saturday, but I thought it was a fluke because I ordered food on a busy weekend. This time I waited a long time with my friend, who also had a simple drink order. There were also no customers in line when we entered. On top of that, my friend received the wrong drink after the long wait. I have been coming here every week since last summer and recently I don't feel welcomed as a regular as the customers just seem to get shuffled along as the orders are placed. read more

Visited this location for my Birthday. Accidental find. Beautiful little place with such an amazing feel. Feels familiar like you belong there. I love that. We came here this morning with a lot of excitement to celebrate my birthday brunch. The waitress was indifferrent saying its hard to serve toast when they are busy. I look back and there is no one in the line to order. They ran out of coffee too. Food was insipid. Long wait, overpriced. Really disappointed. Ok. I came back. The croque madam is definitely worth bragging about. It's perfectly balanced, nice high quality ingredients (the ham, touch of mustard, nicely made bread, and right amount of cheese & bechemel... it's really all quite perfect) that make it a contender for my favorite breakfast item on the island. Add to this that the side of fruit is actually all fresh, quality (no sad under ripe melon here) fruit and how could it have less than 5 stars?
