Here's the thing I hate most to leave a review like this especially to a place I have been patronizing for almost 20 years....why am I treated and handled differently each time I come...and I look past it cause I love the food but I'm now 47 years old and I'm tired of being dealt with in this matter. Please understand the food is Amazing BUT ALL DIVERSITYS AND CULTURES enjoy it! Don't continue to see past that fact. My family has been going here for years however I went today and the food is so salty. I took three bites and I was literally sweating. We used to go here when it was 475 dozen. Looking for soup on a Sunday night....darn COVID wrecked that endeavor at Whole Paycheck. So in comes Yelp to the rescue. Cued up Clementes...don't let the exterior fool you, it really is a liquor store with daughter and papa doling the classics. A very nice Italian gent greats us, we ordered a pint of soup and he looks me up and down and says you better get a quart. He was spot on. As the minestrone was delish, it was a non tomato version which I loved, just couldn't stop eating it. Gotta get back and try the rest! Fast forward two days...intrigued by rest of the menu, we returned for a quick lunch before heading home. Ordered ravioli and spaghetti, it did not disappoint, love at first bite, you know Joanne and her dad put their heart and soul into each dish, I feel like got invited Sunday supper at their house...there is a love they put into their food. Joanne implored me to try their malfatti, which we did (wink wink) and it was unique in the respect its like an gnocchi crossed with a ravioli, its pretty epic, on par with the rest of the menu. This is the real deal! Best food around. Everything is made with fresh ingredients and the flavors are amazing! We absolutely love the Malfattis and then a loaf of bread and a quart of minestrone and we are good to go! JoAnn always is so friendly and helpful. Family has been enjoying the amazing food Clemente and his kids produce for decades!!! The sauce, we call it gravy, is the best around... sometimes we will get a quart and dab out bread in the sauce!!! So yummy! If I could give zero stars I would. We ordered the ravioli and gnocchi. First of all the server placed both pastas into one container... Gross because I don't like gnocchi, my husband likes it. Both pastas were cook entirely too long, so they were very mushy. The ravioli feeling... What can I say I think it's just Thanksgiving stuffing with Italian herbs in a little bit of meat...again gross! The meat sauce is more like a gravy, so if you're from New Jersey this place may be awesome for you! If you are looking for pasta call try ANY other Restaurants in town. If you are not a foodie this place may be great for you, it is inexpensive and they give you a lot of Plebeian food. I'm not sure why this place is so highly rated. Maybe it's based on the original place. But we ordered takeout and honestly, it was disgusting. It was only spaghetti with meat sauce and I've never tasted anything like it. How you get what they serve from tomatoes, ground beef and herbs is beyond me. Maybe the meat was bad, I don't know. But it was inedible. And the ravioli was so salty I couldn't let my kids eat it either. Just beware if you've never eaten here before, it's not what you'd expect. read more

Overall, the food was good. I like that is family owned and ran. It definitely lasted us a few meals which is good. The lady who took our order recommended getting a mix of things so we went with what she said. This place was recommended to me by several people. We came to Napa for Mother's Day and I made it a point to not leave without trying the famous Clemente's Malfatti. I got here at 11:15AM on Mother's Day and there was no wait. It took me a while to look at the menu but finally I decided on the Malfatti, meatballs and 3-bean salad. Honesty the Malfatti tasted alright to me, I liked the meatball and 3-bean salad more. It was a good amount of food for what you pay, so it was enough for lunch and another meal. Tips: 1) Order at the Clemente's window, and pay at the register for Val's. I waited for a while to pay at the window and then was told to pay the store. Credit card is accepted. 2) Make it a picnic by take the food to one of the benches or tables near the waterfront when the weather is nice! read more

We came in to get some ravioli and malfatti and saw they had a family menu that included spaghetti, ravioli malfotti bread soup For 50 dollars then the owner suggested the risotto and veal scallopini , we said ok. Wow oh wow was everything so excellent. Brought me back to when I go with the family to The Depot in Napa and have a huge Italian dinners . I just got back from Italy and had a craving for authentic homemade pasta. Stumbled across this place and ordered everything homemade: Malfatti, gnocchi, ravioli, meatballs with meat sauce. +1 star for the delicious meat sauce and meatballs -3 stars for over cooked mush. The pastas were lumped together, overcooked, mushy, and flavorless -1 star for the pushy sales lady (owner's daughter) who just doesn't listen to you, especially if you're a fist time visitor. BEWARE! She will try to sell you all 3 pastas on the menu then charge you additional $5 for serving your food in an aluminum tray. She will then push you to buy stale sourdough bread to "soak up the sauce" for $3 or $5 cash. Watch out for her charging you an extra $10 for items you don't need! BEFORE YOU GO: If you really want to try their food, it's ok to skip the bread. It's just sourdough. You don't need it even though the daughter will push you to buy it for $5 cash. Make sure to have your food served in their to-go paper cups/containers which are $0.55 each. Don't let her charge you $5 for putting everything the tin pan. WHAT TO EXPECT: A glob of non-authentic, non-al dentè, mushy "pasta." It'll basically mashed starch drenched in sauce. read more

Order early for for Christmas, or say a little prayer they have a cancellation. I got lucky this year as I called a 3 days before my desired pick up (Christmas Eve).... Thank you to whoever changed his or her plans as this was THE best treat for Christmas Eve Dinner! Malfatti and rav's hit the spot and met the mark as usual. As a busy mom who still wanted to host a few extended family members versus the whole gang, this made for a delicious and easy meal. We paired with a homemade Caesar Salad, garlic bread and a nice Pinot Noir. We are regulars and we felt the sauce was exceptionally good this time...couldn't place the settle difference from times past (or maybe it just paired exceptionally well with the vino?). BTW, I also just "felt the love" and the urge to meet my needs over the phone and swift replies and explanations of what my options were when I called. We purchased the family meal this visit and the food was wonderful as always. The family meal includes a quart of spaghetti, quart of soup, full baguette, 2 dozen malfatti, and 2 dozen ravioli. The total price ended up being $63 and change, we had dinner for 3 adults and 2 kids plus leftover for lunch that reheated beautifully. The spaghetti, ravioli, and malfatti all came smothered in the same rich deep homemade sauce. It's tomato-based and velvety, but much deeper both in color and complexity than your usual marinara or meat sauce. The soup too was different than the regular minestrone, no tomatoes to be seen it instead had a green color from what I thought might be spinach but it was basil. It was an interesting pesto-y soup with vegetables and chewy grains, barley maybe? This soup was a little salty for me, but tastes vary so it might be fine for others. Next time I would order a la carte to stock up on our favorites, meatballs, malfatti, and spaghetti. Lots of good food, good value and extra kind staff! Veal was tender and yummy. The sauce for the rest was similar, but seemed to have some differences we couldn't place. The sauce was on the thin side, very similar to the chili sauces in Cincinnati used for the famous 3 Way chili on top of plain spaghetti with a mound of cheddar on top. All that and a loaf of fresh Italian baguette and a bottle of local Pinot noir and we were treated to a amazing meal for a very reasonable price. Go here for some wonderful italian-American history. I went here with my papa and we loved the Malfatti. We both wish that Clementes sold the malfatti uncooked so we could try to dress it ourselves. The classic sauce and the soft texture of the malfatti was so old school and delicious. If you don't know how to order here, you may not enjoy it as much. I reaalllly wanted to like this place. I found it while planning my trip to Napa and hyped it up to my friends because of the raving reviews. Unfortunately I'd rate this place a 2.5 at best. The liquor store location didn't bother me, it was the rude service and the bland food that put me off. My party of 3 who had different orders attempted to order separately but the counter woman kept yelling at us saying we had to do family style and when we didn't immediately agree she yelled to the guy behind us that "we don't know.... blah blah blah." I've lived in NYC I can handle rude people, but this was totally uncalled for. The woman tried to be nice at the end offering us some bread, but basically we were forced to do family style making us pay $5 ******* for the container and also we were unable to identify the different pastas (could hardly find the gnocchi) in the endless piles of sauce. Despite the service we tried to keep and open mind about the "best food in Napa" according to the woman. However, the food was bland and all of the unidentifiable pasta tasted the same. If you do want to try this place after my review at least get everything in separate containers (cheaper container price, easier to know what you're eating). read more

The daughter greeted us as we entered as part of our Foodies on Foot food tour of Napa with hostess Sherry. Soon after, her dad and mom "Nonna" came up to say hi. In their 80s, they are still cooking and spending time at the stove in the kitchen. The specialty was the filling from the ravioli - it's a great story!! - topped with a 15-hour meat sauce that was absolutely delicious! And we loved everything and have left overs for tomorrow?! The minestrone was probably my favorite but I would order this soup all the time if I had my choice. They use chicken broth in the soup if that matters to you but the veggies are yummy and their soup is hearty and delicious!! Everything else has so much love in the preparation. And did I mention the daughter took my order and Dad was in the kitchen serving up our wonderful meal with a smile!!! Such darling sweet people who make yummy food! I was so excited to see Clemente's opened at Riverpark Shopping Center in my neighborhood on Imola, and couldn't wait to get my raviolli & malfatti fix that I've loved for over 50 years. I really am struggling with this review because I do not like to make negative comments. However, the food is nowhere near the same fresh, savory tomato sauce as it used to be. The amount of SALT in the sauce is absolutely overwhelming...nearly inedible...and I'm a senior who usually needs to add a bit of herbs/salt for more flavor. The cooks need to do proper taste tests of their food before sending it out. The pot roast sauce was the same...WAY TOO MUCH SALT! 3 Bean salad was good.
