Wow. Another great restaurant that we encountered on our wine tasting trip. I was told about this place from a good friend who has an awesome taste in dining experiences. Once we yelped it, we knew we would stop by. From the parking lot we could smell the grilling going on inside. Once inside I was slightly worried. It feels like you are having dinner at your grandparents house, but that's not always a bad thing. The service was friendly and after she told us the specials we changed our minds on ordering steak and went with seafood instead. My sea bass was beyond fresh. It was a huge thick filet that was loaded with flavor. Nice crusty grilled coating cooked to perfection. The homemade tartar sauce was a pleasant addition to this dish. This restaurant is definately worth visiting if you are in the area. read more

Came here once and it was closed , glad we went back it's like an old fashioned house that was turned in a restaurant. Glad their menu isn't too big , for me the bigger the menu the harder for it is to decide. It was so busy and crammed when we got there only like 1 bus boy and 3 waiters , that's why service was slow. Our waitress seemed kind of stressed but then she wad sweet and telling jokes. Everything is homemade , so you can pick entrees with a " petite" and "reg " size. The petite size you get either salad or soup and think it is either baked potato or rice pilaf with veggies. With no pie , but the regular size you get it all, you choose between baked potato or rice pilaf. Pie is any flavor all homemade I got the banana cream it was interesting the crust was hard and thin but it was good. The bake potato was like really crispy like almost fried that was so good. The veggies was just carrots and seemed fresh. They give you fresh bread with butter . The salad wad really great and fresh also came with beets I got the homemade ranch which was tasty. The clam chowder was alright needed more flavor or cream something was missing. The filet mingion , how ever you spell it. It was a big piece and it was cooked pretty perfect how I like it medium rare . The chicken was so great a little salty but juicy even the breast was juicy. It was a lot of food for the price . Sorry. I am shocked at any good review. We both had the urge to leave the minute we got seated but according to the reviews we thought we would stick it out. This restaurant is filthy. I'm shocked the health department hasn't closed them down. I will say the fresh sea bass was good but that was it! We ordered the pie and check as soon as our meal came so we could leave as soon as possible. My husband told me to NOT go in the restroom. Super pricey for the quality. read more

This place has not been deep cleaned or updated for 30 years. There was mold all over the dirty metal windows. Ants crawling across wall bugs in plants dirt on walls. My husband and I just had a lovely dinner at Clementine's Steak House in Carpenteria. The minute you walk in you are greeted warmly and treated just like family. The servers go out of their way to explain the menu, which is all inclusive and features soup, salad , and a main course with freshly made sides and even your choice of pie for dessert! My husband had the fried chicken and I had the teriyaki New York steak, both were well seasoned and tasted homemade. And speaking of homemade, our friendly server pointed out that everything on the menu is made on premises. She even insisted that we take our nummy leftovers home, and brought us plenty of extras. In short, Clementine's is the kind of place that treats you like family, they even sang Happy Birthday to me. We loved the friendly local vibe and delicious homemade food. Next time we're in Carpenteria we will be sure to stop in for dinner! read more

Great little hidden gem in Carpinteria. Its an old school style restaurant with dim lighting and Frank Sinatra music playing. They take reservations and walk ins as well. Good menu and prime rib steaks on weekends. They make everything homemade. Each meal comes with bread and butter, soup, salad, potato, and a huge slice of homemade pie. My husband and I both ordered prime rib and was cooked to our liking. They serve beer and wine. Customer service is great. Wife brought me here and it was a big disappointment. Not impressed at all. First off the carpet is filthy and musty smelling like rotten moldy limes. Pictures had water spots all over from someone watering plants above with out a overflow.. They also were dusty and the lamps as well. We were seated promptly in a back room. This was at 5:25. The gentleman who seated us brought bread water and our Bottle of Wine. He forgot to leave the wine cork at the table by the way(we figured this out later) The waitress was an overworked and over stressed woman of 50+years or older. This place was way under staffed and should hire some younger folks to help at least on Busy weekends. Our order was taken about 15 minutes in I opted for the Prime rib with Split pea soup and salad. The split pea soup was Lackluster and could have benifitted from the addition of HAM, FatBack, Bacon, Hamhock or anything to help improve the flavor. The salad I ordered came out and it had Canned Beets on it I could taste the can! I also found the stem end of the Romain lettuce in my salad as I was eating it. See Photo below. So a real Turnoff!! I called the waitrss over and showed her and she admitted it was her that plated the salad. Not good!! The prime rib came out it was laking in flavor their crispy baked potatoe seemed to be a pre-baked potatoe that is dropped into the fryer to warm up. NOT A FAN! We took the pies to go and left them in the hotel fridge Not a good experiance at all. It seems looking thru the reviews many locals come here and they have a set customer base who have become blind to the filth and nose blind to the stank emminatting from the carpet. read more

The portions are huge for the price, all meals coming with bread, veggie sticks, homemade pickles, soup/salad, and pie. Even the biggest eaters will find themselves stuffed. My father in law counts the huge portions as a negative because he wasn't even close to finishing the small portion. Another person in my party just ordered soup and salad for dinner and both the soup and salad portions were more than anybody could eat. I wish that they had just offered smaller "unlimited" portions of the soup and salad combo to cut down on food waste. The bread, pickles, and pie were great. The mains were hit or miss, the one time I visited. We came in as a party of 6. Anybody who ordered fried foods (like the fried chicken) came away happy. Anybody who ordered steak was horribly disappointed. Whoever's the chef was that night horribly overcooked everything. A medium rare filet mignon came out well done. Medium rare new york steaks came out medium well. I want to give the restaurant a second chance since my food was delicious (I ordered the fried chicken) but unfortunately, the steak issue upset my husband enough that he swears that he'll never return. The management offerind to remake the steaks, even taking the filet off the bill when we declined but unfortunately the bad impression is set. read more

Quaint restaurant, 3/4-1 hour drive from Solvang on Thanksgiving. Their website doesn't accept reservations so ours wasn't in their system, but fortunately they had a table for the 4 of us. A must go! The whole experience from reservations all the way to pie at the end was outstanding. We had a party of eight and fit comfortably and were very well taken care of. The homemade bread and vegetable platters awaiting us on our arrival were delicious. I could eat those pickles all day long! Best clam chowder I've ever had. Miss Patty was our waitress and she remembered all of our names after a quick introduction and made us all feel special. It was my daughter's birthday and she always made her come first. We sat on the back patio which was very charming with little white lights and ivy across the ceiling. Whoever said it was dark out there and they asked for flashlights is crazy! I stumbled across this place this evening and was so very impressed that I had to write a review. I worked up here today ( and pretty regularly) and just wanted to grab a great meal before I hit the hotel. It's really old school as far as atmosphere but it won me with the fact that it's been family owned for 37 years and you feel like you came home for dinner. Every morning they bake pies, bread, buy fresh vegetables for their soups and salads and get fish from the local fishermen. You can tell these ladies who serve have been here for years and love this place and the food they serve. They start out with fresh bread and butter followed by a fresh veggie plate. The meal then comes with soup AND salad. To top that off all meals come with Dessert! So be Careful! It's A lot of food but all really delicious I will be back. We came here last night, looking for a good steak. We ended up ordering two "petite" meals: the New York steak and prime rib. Everything we tried was good, so I can't complain one bit about that. The steak was perfectly done, and good quality. The prime rib was a touch overdone, although that was our fault for ordering closer to medium well (I just don't like bloody prime rib...I'd rather it be over than under). The sides were fine...we ordered the baked potato and a vegetable side (sautéed carrots). The homemade pie was pretty fantastic...we had rhubarb and the chocolate walnut. Our waitress was very attentive and nice. Pros: good service, good price, good steak, great homemade pie...pretty solid choice for Carpinteria Cons: I'll put it this way...it's not a good romantic date night restaurant for anyone under 75. It has a bit of a "grandma's attic" feel to the decor, and while I know that is part of the charm of an old fashioned steakhouse, it was...distractingly old fashioned. read more

My goodness. I wandered to this place looking to stop off the freeway for dinner and I lucked out. The food here was fantastic, the service was fantastic. This is multi course fine dining complete with choice of pie in the end (I had the banana cream and it left me speechless with satisfaction). Every course was delicious and you get every course for one great price. If you are stopping by here do yourself a favor and go to Clementines. One note, the setting is a little old timey and rustic, but it really only adds to the charm, complete with smooth jazz. The place to go in Carp for great food. Everything is made from scratch, from the salad dressing to the desserts, and the owner and staff will treat you like family. The fried chicken is delicious, and the rhubarb pie is the best I've had since grandma's many many years ago. Their baked potatoes have a unique taste and texture, I suspect they drop them into a deep fryer for a second or two before serving. Whatever they do, it works. The apple pie is darn good too. If I have any complaint at all, it would be the peeling paint and outdated decor, but those are minor quibbles considering the great food, huge portions, and great service. read more

The woman that greeted and sat us said that we needed a reservation at 4:30pm on a Thursday night. My parents have been coming here for 30+ years and have never made a reservation. Our waitress, however was wonderful and the food was delicious. I'm glad I got to experience Clementine's after hearing about it for most of my life. Absolutely wonderful fresh homemade daily dishes. Come hungry because everything is big. Love the fact you can order regular or petite portions. Staying at the Best Western about 800 ft away. Have past by here so many times, so we decided to try. This is a little hole in the wall. We were seated in the back room. Our server Esther , who was so busy! We both had the clam chowder and the salad combo. OMG! Esther had us try the house Russian dressing and the blue cheese dressing ! It was sooooo good! The wife and I ate at this place for the first time and at first glance it was a 5 star meal. The strange thing was that after a few hours passed I started to get my doubts. Often we get confused with quantity versus quality. The food was plentiful, but it was average at best. The clam chowder was too thick and lacked seasoning and the entree that I had was not really good. I dont want to confuse anyone, by thinking that it was outright terrible, it wasnt all that bad, but for the price I would have expected better. I had the sirloin tips and the croutons in it were a strange addition and the gravy was loaded with salt. The homemade blue cheese dressing I had tasted like watered down buttermilk with chunks of cheese in it. The service was excellent, but the place was filthy. Looking around, you can see spider webs in the corner loaded with dust. This tells me that they have been there awhile and not from some spider that just made them that day. Like I said earlier, I left happy that we ate there, but after buyers remorse kicked in, I decided that i wont be returning. read more
