As usual, the food at Chicago sports bars is always at least decent; in the case of Cleo's, it's much better than that. My wife and I stopped in for lunch and got a meatball pizza and a fried chicken sandwich with tots. Both were strong, although the pizza was the big winner for me personally. For two people, this was a lot of food for $22 (before tax/tip) so the doggie bags were much appreciated! We came recently but with the patio out back, Cleo's is a better fit when the weather warms up. Still, I like the dive-ish feel of the interior and those bathrooms...this isn't your grandmother's cocktail hour! read more

One of the few places in Chicago to catch any meaningful soccer match being played throughout the world. Most of the food I've tried has been great (I recommend the burgers or fish tacos) and they have a good selection of beers. They also have daily specials for both food and drinks. The one knock I have is that the waitresses and bar tenders are usually crabby and clearly unhappy to be there. Maybe that's meant to be part of the "charm" but it gets pretty old when you continually feel like they're doing you a favor to take your order or answer a simple question. I like the place enough to keep going though, and I'm willing to assume the moods swing based on the size of the crowds during important soccer matches. read more

Last Saturday I did some pretty intense bar hopping with a friend from college. He got off husband & daddy duty for the night and we barhopped back like we were at UIC. He tried to play wing man for me for the night...but wasn't that great at it. Either way, we had a fun time and the fun started at Cleos Bar & Grill. Before I went, the lovely Jelena Z. told me about the patio and she was SO right. Their cute backdoor patio is rockin', super chill and we had the best night for sitting out there. Saturday nights they had PBRs for just $2.50 and mini sliders for $1! I had the pulled pork slider and it was friggin good. I came to Cleo's on a whim on a gorgeous weekday afternoon solo to check out their patio. I assumed the patio was in the back and walked through two swinging doors. Whoops, kitchen. The cook smiled and pointed to a large sign hanging from the ceiling that said "Patio" with an arrow, as if I was blind. While I was back there, I asked him for some mayo. (I like to keep some extra in my purse.) Once I finally found it, WOW! The patio is beautiful, basically a botanical garden with vibrant colors, butterflies, the buzzing of bees doing their dirty work on the flowers, and the occasional whiffs of floral scents mixed with nachos and wings. I sat down and decided to take a few minutes to do some deep breathing and meditation because the vibe was right, but I was IMMEDIATELY interrupted by the rude server-- Courtney. She was like, "Hey! How are you? Here is some ice water, it sure is a hot one today, can I get you started with anything else?" First of all-- HELLO? Can't you fucking see I'm meditating? I calmly smelled the flowers and blew out the candle, like my therapist suggested. I ordered a mimosa but asked her to hold the orange juice. She was like, "Ok, cool, so just some champs?" Like ok, Courtney, call it what you want. People really have their panties in a twist these days with labels. They were playing classic rock. I asked Courtney if she could put on the Spotify playlist that I've spent the last two years curating ever since I went Premium called "Ocean sounds mixed with sperm whale calls, deep tracks for relaxing on a patio." Courtney was like, "I'm not sure if we can honor that, but I'll definitely look into it." Well, three and a half minutes later here we are on "Freebird." I felt judged and basically got the vibe that Courtney felt that her music taste was somehow superior to mine. I decided to stick around and I ordered the fish tacos: hollllyyyyyyy fuck, 10/10. Legit had to run to the bathroom because I started to O, yet as I'm running, I hear, "Hey! Can you please put on your mask?" Ummm, ok? Throughout my four and a half hour stay, Courtney kept bothering me with comments like, "Is everything tasting okay?" and "Do you want another round," each time my glass of "champs" was almost empty. My wife and I are huge European football fans and saw Cleo's featured on Abby Wambaugh's show. We recently spent a long weekend in Chicago and went to Cleo's for early morning football and libations. I've been to Cleo's about a million times. The food is good, the backyard is AWESOME, and its overall a great, chill place to get a drink. The tater tots are awesome and the buckets of beer and seltzers are great. That said, I have a message for Cleo's management: please, please please please fix the bathroom situation. It is horrible. The men's bathroom door doesn't lock (traumatic) and the women's bathroom is one toilet with a wet floor and water (or something else) dripping from the ceiling. If you're there on a busy night you're waiting a minimum of 10 minutes just to take a quick pee. This is unacceptable. Please fix it. Thanks in advance. read more

I'm always down for trying a new dive bar, and I'm pleased that Cleo's was my most recent opportunity to do so. I came here for trivia, which happens every Tuesday, and I highly recommend going if trivia is your thing -- or you want to ease into trying it! There are *always* deals here, every single day of the week. On Trivia Tuesdays, there are $2 tacos, $4 flavored vodka, and $1 off ALL draft beers. We. Love. A. Bar. That. Offers. Deals. I'll always end up spending more money than originally planned, but when you're getting a good deal for it all, how can you even be mad?! DRINKS: Our waitress listed off some of Cleo's flavored vodkas for me, since they had that slick $4 deal goin' on, and the words "black cherry" rang in my ears so loudly. Per her suggestion, I paired that with Coke, and it was so good that I ordered two more. The alcohol-to-mixer ratio was poured perfectly, and at a fair cost! FOOD: I'm a sucker for tacos, and at two bucks apiece, resisting was impossible. I ordered fish tacos, which were presented in a fun red taco holder, slathered in sour cream and queso, and topped off with salsa, cilantro, and lettuce. The fish was a hearty serving, cooked perfectly to a crisp. And again, folks, THESE ARE $2 ON TUESDAYS. What a blessing. TRIVIA: Has six rounds, and every two rounds, you get a break so the quizmaster can tally scores, which are then presented on the bar's screens. The questions are all very fun, and for the non-photo-themed rounds, questions are accompanied by photo hints, which are pretty helpful for the most part! We had a blast answering questions, even when we got them wrong. That's just the atmosphere of the place. This is a great bar for deals, and is good for groups and dates, from what I could see looking around on a Tuesday night. If you're looking to ease into the world of bar trivia or are looking for something to do on any given night, I think Cleo's is a great place to try! read more

Overall: A great unique neighborhood option with a cool vibe, huge patio, and friendly service. The good: The entire bar is huge, from the inside with lots of seating to the expansive outdoor patio. Lots of tables and room to hang with a big group. They have a good selection of beers too, with a lot on tap as well as all of the watered-down favorites. We came with a huge group and the server was very friendly even though she was swamped. The not-so-good: The TVs in the back were poor quality. The grass looked like mud on one TV. We were only drinking on this summer afternoon but the food around me looked amazing- from the nachos that were on most of the tables, to the burgers on another, all looked and smelled amazing! The servers move easily between the tables bringing drinks and if you want water- there is a large cooler and cups against the wall that makes keeping you hydrated a breeze! If you want shade- several of the tables have umbrellas. Know if you sit by the wall, you will be in full sun but that didn't bother us at all. I normally don't write reviews but WOW...The two older female bartenders (my receipt said her name was Maggie) have terrible service here, not sure how they still work there...I've been to Cleo's for years for soccer games but this is the first time I ordered from them at the bar and had the most unprofessional service EVER. Incident: It's like they don't want business...First for background purposes, I waited for over 25 mins and not even an acknowledgement even after making eye contact several times and finally once I got one of their attention I placed my order. For the one minute I get a call from some friends that they just arrived I get my drink from the bartender and she then proceeded to yell at me for not paying attention of her talking to me in a very loud bar. Mind you that this all happened with 30 seconds. I told her I didn't hear her and after all her nasty eye rolls... i told her that this was terrible service. And then she walked away and proceeded to whisper to the other older bartender friend she had. Then in the very classy but expected reactions by them, they started to swear up a storm to "shame" me definitely didn't work but it did work to guarantee that me and my soccer friends won't be back to this place. Conclusion of this story: It's a shame that a few bad(tender) apples can lose patron business for bars like Cleo's. After seeing past reviews it doesn't seem like the management cares to address the poor 1 star reviews about bartenders. It's a shame. Alternative Bar Recommendation: Go to Damen Tavern around the corner. The seating was great, the soccer atmosphere was awesome and the bartenders were very friendly. Just moved to the area and just found my "Go To-close by- outdoor patio place"! You wouldn't be able to tell from the front but they have a decent sized beer garden even has Bocce ball. They have really good deals sun-wed for food and drink and the food was a bit more elevated than typical bar food. I ordered a salad which probably wasn't the best thing to order at a bar but it was decent! The chili and mac and cheese were surprisingly SO GOOD. Who knew chili at a bar could be so flavorful and good... semi scared to think about it too hard Added note: it was a random beautiful day so I dont think they anticipated as many patrons. But our server was NOT attentive and honestly I found her to be a bit uninterested (maybe overwhelmed or off day). This is probably one of my favorite neighborhood/dive bars in Chicago. Its just so nice and cozy inside, great people to mingle with, and awesome food and drink specials daily. Kinda reminds me of that TV sitcom Cheers - "sometimes you wanna go where everybody knows your name...and their always glad you came...". I love the laid back vibe here and the great employees. Everyone always caters to you and makes sure you have what you need. Great place to watch a Hawks game because you are surrounded by die hard Hawks fans! And Tim, the bartender, has this bucket that he always bangs on to spur on the chant of "LET'S GO HAWKS!". Love it! Their food here is amazing. Make sure you try their pizzas. It is to die for, specially the margherita pizza! Thursday nights they are only $6! The wings and pretty much everything else that they have on the menu is also great. In the summer, make sure you check out their beer garden in the back. They have a large flat screen centered outside. Perfect way to relax on those warm days/nights. Came here with a group at the end of a friend's birthday celebration. The inside is your typical sports bar type vibe, but they have a great large outdoor patio area. Our server explained that she was covering the whole patio area, but she still made time to check in on us. Prices were reasonable for both drinks and food, and those who got food seemed to enjoy it (the mac and cheese with breadcrumbs was especially delicious). The TV's on the patio were very wonky though-the color on one was very off, and the other one near us had a giant pinkish line running through it. It didn't really bother us, but I could see if you were going there to watch a game (they do advertise themselves as airing a lot of the soccer games), that would be a bummer. read more

Cleos offers daily special, even on weekend. Most bars don't do this and this is awesome. Was there 2 years ago and happy to return last week, nothing really changes but got more fun here. If you are a big fan of wings, go there on Monday night for their special, 25 cents only but the limit is a dozen/table. They are so many flavors to choose from but if you can't decide you can order the combo like me. I had Teriyaki, buffalo & BBQ with blue cheese. Man! they were so good, very flavorful. I was there on Saturday night so wings weren't on a daily special menu but the pulled pork was just $1(Saterday special) insane! I was very happy with my wings. Regular price is not bad either, $10.95/ dozen, worth it. Nice and colorful bar with animal print on it, very cool. The seats were gorgeous and comfy. We got a great spot at the bar on Saturday evening, so lucky.They were very busy but not surprise. Everyone seemed to have a great time there. Cleos has a fooze ball table for more excitements. Sometimes the servers will join you, they are too good to beat, so much fun. I'm sure all sport fans are very happy with this place, they have TV screens everywhere even out side by the patio. The patio is gigantic, you can also order food from out there and smoking is allowed as well. Cleos is an incredible dive bar with a very cool ambiance and pretty laid back actually. The lights decor were crazy weird but they made this place more fun and different. The servers were great and friendly, fast service even when they busy. Still awesome.... although I don't remember much. Last time I came here, i was already in bad shape. I was screaming out to the heavens for help and mercy (no, really; I was). We landed at Cleo's and the folks here took care of me. 1.) Doorguy John: awesome. He saw I was in a sideways dimension, so he helped ease the check-in process. 2.) Our awesome waitress (blonde with glasses): rather than being annoyed at the whiny inebriate in front of her, she talked me into water and food. Pizza wasn't on special, so 'how about some fish and chips?' Yes, please! 3.) Bathroom: I'll always remember our special time together. 4.) Patrons: many thanks for not beating me up. To echo the words of my fellow yelper Gil J, yes the $5 pizza is that good and deserves to be recognized. Its been about a decade since my return and I will never let that much time go by ever again. The crafts on tap are worth alone to make a visit. The daily specials make you want to stay all night :) The staff is super friendly and courteous. Great job checking up on us for refills, more munchies and conversation. That is a beautiful thing! The patio to my surprise was well lit and put together. No over crowded seating and plenty of TVs. After just over a year of living in the neighborhood I've finally decided that Cleo's is definitely my favorite neighborhood bar. The back patio is super cute and fun in the summer. It also acted as a great hideout from West Fest, great to jump off the main street and into Cleo's for some table service and a fresh marg. The atmosphere is good-- mixed crowd, low on d-bags, and the music is wonderful. I highly recommend sitting out on the back patio if it is warm. I've been to this bar pre-COVID and it was great. Fun atmosphere and good service. I went again this past Saturday 8/1 for the FA Cup Final with 5 people in our group (included myself). We sat inside and were socially distanced from other tables. The huge problem was the service. Our waitress was super inattentive and had a very "I don't care" attitude towards us. We ordered off of a "Saturday Specials" sign that was posted on the wall for the majority of the 2 hour game. When we got our check at the end, we noticed that none of the specials had been applied to our drinks. When we asked our waitress about this she curtly responded "those are pre-COVID specials" then walked away. Okay...except that would have been good to know BEFORE we ordered since more than 10 of our drinks were ordered off of that specials sign. It seems rather shady to operate like that. On top of it all, an automatic 20% gratuity was added to our check for our group of 5. Again, this would have been okay if this had been explicitly stated somewhere AND if we actually had decent service. Overall horrible experience and will not be going back to Cleo's nor recommending it in the future. read more

Being borned and raised in this part of Chicago in the late 80's and a good part of the nineties I tend to be paticular about the geneterfication. Food was good. Mags service was on point. My only issue is that I was able to hear why my food took too long and that shift change I felt the anxiety and unorganiziation . I felt unwelcomed.
